    Thanks for the info. I’ve been knitting for longer than I can remember, but never really known where you measure from. I would have asked my mum, who taught me to knit many years ago, unfortunately she’s passed away. Do I couldn’t.

    When I measure the back must I include the ribbing

      Yes, the ribbing is still part of the back, unless it says differently in the pattern measure from the casting on row.. Happy knitting!

    Do you measure from ribbing or the start of stocking stitch for length

      Patterns will usually be presuming you’re measuring from cast-on. Happy knitting 🧶

    But I'm trying to measure something in the round with circulars that make the knitting bunched up behind.

      Hi, all you'll need to do is isolate a small section of the knit and flatten it so it can be measured. The rest of it can be bunched. Happy knitting 🧶

    I want to knit a cushion cover (for a pillow 40cmx40cm) but I don’t know how to work out how many stitches I need to cast on.
    Can you help me with this please? I have knitting needles of 10mm and 7mm only

      Hi Scotia, it will be difficult for me to help exactly, as the type of yarn will make a big difference too. I'd cast on maybe 20 sts, knit for a few rows and count how many stitches you find when you measure 10cm. You can then multiply that by four to get how many you need in 40 cm. Then you'll have the number you need to cast on again for your cushion cover.
      Happy knitting!

    How about without a pattern? Also are 1st row of stitches on the needle need to be separated like this to know the length? Help🥺🙃

      Whenever a pattern asks you to measure the length, it will take into account the stitch pattern that you're using. Take a look at the way I open the cast on edge to measure accurately. (and note, I'm not over-driven to get the exact measurement, knitting isn't an exact science :D ) Happy knitting 🧶

      Thank you 😊 haha I'm kinda already on that road, not giving myself rules, or exact plans. Basically just going for it😄 looking forward to finding out if my scarf turns out alright.

      I thought you might have! I bet it turns out well. :D Remember, you're knitting from a ball of yarn and a pair of needles - you rock! Happy knitting 🧶

    How do I know if I’ve cast enough stitches on?

    • @KnitWithHannah
      @KnitWithHannah  2 роки тому

      Hi Kerri, the pattern will let you know how many you need. 🧶

      @@KnitWithHannah I’m not exactly using a pattern. Wanted to make squares to then put together to make a blanket. Thought that might be easier for a first timer...
