The oil filter bolt is size 36mm not 32mm unless you are using a different measurement unit for the socket
You're wrong, it's 32mm, been the same on old models and is still the same on this one.
I guess it varies. The car in the video obviously has a 32mm bolt, but my car ('06 E60 520D M47 engine) has 36mm. I know, because I changed the filter today. I bought a 32mm socket for the job, but had to go back and return it for a 36mm one since it didn't fit. :/
@@danielandersen9431 this is a 530D not a 520D so thats why its different
M47 Engine here and I had to use a 36mm not 32mm.
does it matter if you change the oil filter first or vice versa?

In the video for the bmw you only use 1 whole box of oil. is that enough? or did u cut anything? Trying to learn about cars so just want to know. I have almost same system but 520i 2004 E60
It is required about 8.25 liters of oil for replacing.

@@autodocuk In my 520d e60(M47 engine) is neccessary a 36 head. Not a 32 socket head. This is a very important information if you don't wanna have a problem during the process in a 520d.
why you put 5w40 ...in manual is 5w30?

does it make any harm to the engine if you spin the engine between old and new oil? Like not start the engine, just spin in a little bit. that way you will get all the dirty oil out of the system. I did that with my old car and there were like a half liter stuck inside the engine.

The engine will not be harmed if it is started after changing the oil since an oil film remains on all friction parts.
That to get rid of the old oil, you need to fill in a new oil that matches the tolerances and specifications for your engine but use the cheapest and also put the cheapest filter, start the engine so that it runs at idle and then replace this oil with normal together with a filter.
This is more expensive, but then you completely flush the engine lubrication system.

Why 5w40? Not 5w30??

Don't overfill. 6.5 will do, otherwise the oil will start to foam and spill over your engine. At least my car doesn't like the recommended 7.5L of oil.
I like to extract the oil from the dipstick tube :) I can't access under the car :S

by book is 8.25 liter but can be 8 or 8.5 liters .depends how well did you empty the old oil
3.0 liter diesel...8.5 liter
is better to put 7.5 l than check you level on computer than top up. Cos if u put 8.5 l and u had a bit left u will end up with oil overload message and than u have to empty some.. BEST SOLUTION BUY OIL PUMP SO YOU CAN EMPTY OLD OIL AND LEVEL OVERLOAD.and u will use it again.
