An update on the Old Town Spur: As of 2020, the Jackson & Lansing RR has began running revenue trains down the line, to service Freidland’s Scrap Metal! They have only made a few runs so far, and I’m hoping to get out and film the next one.
In 2007 this engine Erie 725 was used as a engine for a dinner train that ran out of Waterford, MI. It would travel up the line for a couple of miles at a crawl and then reverse the same route again until dinner was complete. Great time....I have a lot of photos of this engine. Thanks for sharing!!!
It's a great video! That engine starting at 4:00 use to be around in my area. I live in West Blomfield and it was close to the area, Walled Lake to be exact. There use to be a rail line from about a mile away from orchard lake road, and it went on a long way from there. They tore it up a few years ago and now it's a bike trail. Oh those were the days
The Michigan Star Clippper ran on one end and the Walled Lake Scenic ran on the other, with freight service provided by Coe Rail. Most of the equipment from that railroad was scrapped on site unfortunately, but some of the better stuff has had second chances on life.
According to what I have read F unit is now being run on the Stourbridge Line in PA. It's been given the Pennsylvania five stripe paint scheme with Brunswick green and is now numbered 9880. Great show
the erie f7 you see in the video was the locomotive on the Michigan star clipper dinner train. the dinner train was closed in 2008 so that is why the unit looks so good
Cleveland. They may have moved it to Pennsylvania by now. It’s going to a tourist railroad, and they’re going to restore it to operating state. I’m going to miss it, but I’d rather have it running that sitting and rotting.
Very cool video. I have an off the wall question. Being from Lansing, would you have any idea what happened to the Michigan State SW1500 that used to be at the power plant? Thanks!
That old crossbuck hanging above the newer crossbuck looks like the type that you would have seen on the old Milwaukee Road. I don't know if any other railroads regularly used that type of crossbuck in the past.
+JacksonAndLansing Railroad It's more of the "In Storage" state. If it was abandoned it would be in far worse condition, probably wouldn't run and probably wouldn't have lasted on that siding as long as it did.
Do you have contact info on the abandoned tracks in Lansing, that still have the crossing lights and switches? I'm in talks with the owners of a line where of 100 miles, about 94 miles have been pulled; and I need to buy some used tracks if it goes through; and since this line has crossing protection that can go with the tracks, I'm interested.
that was my old city of lansing and i know those tracks very well they went in to downtown lansing at the old bwl power plant the tracks crossed oakland and saginaw streets and they are no longer there.
The JAIL are the abbreviations for Jackson and Lansing Railroad. It is based on the prison in Jackson but I’m not sure what every letter stands for. The Jackson and Lansing own rights to tracks 1 and 2, I believe.
the kid likes trains and thats a good thing just think about how many other kids like drugs or meth at that age this is a far better alternative. disregard the trespass bs you did a good job here i like trains
The 725 is gone now, it was at that location for about five years, originally brought there with several passenger cars and an old caboose. I have a video of it on you tube dating I believe from 2012.
Yeah, it was in storage for a while. They’ve been trying to move it to a tourist railroad in Pennsylvania, and I’m glad to see that they’ve finally done it.
No electric railroads anywhere Lansing Mi.,this is 1 of a few tracks 1 of the few left over pieces of the old Lake Shore and Michigan Southern...…….there is another piece of it on Mt Hope and Washington. It all was bought by the New York Central before the merger with the Michigan Central. The old F unit was from the Coe dinner train.
American Rail Companies are the Butt of humour in Many Countries around the World and this is Why.... If cant make it at home, don't try to Thieve from Other Countries.
The USA is the only country in the world that does NOT subsidize it's rail roads. In other words, the USA is the only country where taxpayers do NOT pay for the rail roads. Now,,,,who is the butt of a joke?
There has been a lot of talk of using the spur in North Lansing for larger shipments, and to this day it does have some irregular business. Our friend here just doesn't realize it...

This exciting news! Keep us posted
Good to hear that the old Erie F unit is getting restored.
it is ex BLE not ERIE.
No ERIE or DLW F unint of any kind survives.
I saw and photoed EL F7s. They are now all gone.
I really enjoyed this video. I looked at your channel and I am glad you are still active.
Thanks, I appreciate it!

That's correct. The Michigan Star Clipper dinner train.
Nice video. I liked the concept for this one.
Thank you Drayton!
Good thing is this very track is going back into use!!!
Yup. It was used a couple years ago by the Jackson and Lansing
I forgot to say but I grew up by this track
Lots of neat stuff left behind like that stone mile marker
Abandoned rails can always teach a history lesson. Bob...
They sure can.
I remember the Erie-Lackawanna as a kid coming through my hometown. I worked as a signalman for them after high school.
Sounds like a great time!
Perfection on this video has been achieved with levels succeeding 9000.
Thank you!
The track that was removed and can be only seen on a crossing went abandoned 23 years ago

That is all true. Thank you!
I wish those abandoned Lansing railroads were still in operation.
There have been some debates on reopening the line. The JAIL used it a couple years ago to service the scrapyard.
the erie f7 you see in the video was the locomotive on the Michigan star clipper dinner train. the dinner train was closed in 2008 so that is why the unit looks so good
That’s correct. It’s in Ohio currently.
why is it in ohio and where
Cleveland. They may have moved it to Pennsylvania by now. It’s going to a tourist railroad, and they’re going to restore it to operating state. I’m going to miss it, but I’d rather have it running that sitting and rotting.

Thanks! You're welcome!
Very cool video. I have an off the wall question. Being from Lansing, would you have any idea what happened to the Michigan State SW1500 that used to be at the power plant? Thanks!
Last I heard, it was being leased to Nucor Steel in Boubonnais, IL
@@JAILRail Oh, no kidding...Thanks so much.
This is so freaking cool
This F7 unit must be in a museum!
It’s being restored for operation at a tourist railroad in Pennsylvania.
Nice!
no erie/lackawanna F unit exists.
this is former BLE.
Great video mate!
Thank you!
I like the thumbnail
Nice old locomotive
Paul Grimm it isn’t there any more, but I got there just in time to see it be moved to a unknown location by a CSX and 3 Crewmembers
That old crossbuck hanging above the newer crossbuck looks like the type that you would have seen on the old Milwaukee Road. I don't know if any other railroads regularly used that type of crossbuck in the past.
I'm pretty sure the lower one was put in more recently.
I knew that - I was just commenting on the older one high up in the air.
Interesting, thanks for posting
Thank you for watching!
725 is currently in Cleveland, awaiting restoration it looks like.
It’s been due to move to Pennsylvania for about 2 years. Glad to see they finally moved it.
sounds like that geep you were looking at was put together on a Monday or a Friday.
Which one?
the 1760, the narrative implied she was chronically disabled, laden with gremlins apparantly
And she's alright now?
JacksonAndLansing Railroad
ya never heard that old joke?, ask one of the old heads.
When is last time a train was on these tracks.. any chance they might use them again
They sent a couple down there earlier this year. It’s uncertain whether another train will come in the future.
Is that crossing gaurd shack preserved now or ?
Yes, it was moved to the Lansing Model Railroad Club and restored.
many a hobo rode those rails back in the day, the good ole days.
The only good way of travel back then!
jony joe hihi
JacksonAndLansing Railro
We have laws and police that enforce those laws against hobos (Citizens), but we have laws, not enforced by police against illegal aliens. What gives?
This track is going back into use
ABRX 725 isn't technically abadoned, the Stourbridge Line purchased it a few months ago. Not sure what the status is in getting it delivered.
Heard about that. But they haven't taken it yet, so it's still in the abandoned state.
+JacksonAndLansing Railroad It's more of the "In Storage" state. If it was abandoned it would be in far worse condition, probably wouldn't run and probably wouldn't have lasted on that siding as long as it did.
***** So it can still run at this moment?
Basically. Probably needs to have all the fluids put back in it though. If it didn't it would suffer freeze damage.
there is an abandoned railroad by the NS station in Jackson
Do you have contact info on the abandoned tracks in Lansing, that still have the crossing lights and switches? I'm afraid I do not have any contact info. Sorry bout that.
I lived in both of those places
ActiveGamer 3000 👍 me to
If they haven’t been torn out, you should look for date nails
Haven’t checked, but I’m going to guess early 1900s.
The yellow and red engine what happened to it looks like it can still be used
It was bought by a tourist railroad in Pennsylvania about a year and a half ago. For some reason they haven’t moved it yet.
WOW. Send that to a Museum
It's already been sent!
which museum has it?
engineerpat 5290 www.thestourbridgeline.net
thanks!
It is still there.
4:36 what happened to that locomotive where is it now
It’s at the Midwest Rail Preservation Society in Cleveland.
Ok
that was my old city of lansing and i know those tracks very well they went in to downtown lansing at the old bwl power plant the tracks crossed oakland and saginaw streets and they are no longer there.
Where in Downtown Lansing was the old BWL plant?
when 707 says they need to work "the jail" what are they referring to ? yard track 2 is all I could surmise
The JAIL are the abbreviations for Jackson and Lansing Railroad. It is based on the prison in Jackson but I’m not sure what every letter stands for. The Jackson and Lansing own rights to tracks 1 and 2, I believe.
Very sad.Shit and garbage everywhere.
All the freight is now transported on government supported highways.
Yeah. Or bigger railways.
All the freight is about to be back on the same track
the population of F units were no longer again in united states : (
We must appreciate the ones that are left.
the kid likes trains and thats a good thing
just think about how many other kids like drugs or meth at that age this is a far better alternative.
disregard the trespass bs you did a good job here
i like trains
Thank you for the support! Really appreciate those words.
How’s this line today
Solemnly used by the Jackson & Lansing. Once or twice annually.
JacksonAndLansing Railroad that’s good
Say something! What are we looking at ??
My target audience would know what they’re looking at, and that’s who I made this video for.
don't be blind lol.
Where was this in Lansing,Mi
Old Town.
THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS! Some of those electric trains can be VERY silent...always walk ALONGSIDE the track
You're right! I'll be more careful next time.
Or stay away...
Electrifying, ain't it?
It’s a diesel...
Back then when this track was abandoned BUT this track is going back into use TODAY so now you should walk alongside the track
Why would they leave a locomotive out there when they could put it in a museum
It has been moved to the Stourbridge line in PA.
The 725 is gone now, it was at that location for about five years, originally brought there with several passenger cars and an old caboose. I have a video of it on you tube dating I believe from 2012.

Are the tracks boneless?
Yes
I guess the future´s over for these tracks :(
Unless some railroad wants it, but that’s not how it looks.
Last chance... here in Germany most tracks are removed after shutting down...so good luck anyways....
Should I assume Lansing is no better off than Detroit and Flint?
Lansing is 150% better. Why would you say so?
Judging by the abandoned railroads I wondered if they were as financially hit as flint and Detroit have been.
4:22 what’s the location?
Ensel yard. It’s at the Turner St. crossing.
Sad
Cool video, I love those old E and F, stream liners... When you get the chance, checkout my new train "CSX LITE"...
Thanks much, Moses...
Thank you for watching! I will check out your video!
is this Michigan?
Indeed. Lansing, Michigan.
greg h
Sarah Campbell ?
Lansing where? LOL
Michigan, of course!
No electric railroads anywhere Lansing Mi.,this is 1 of a few tracks 1 of the few left over pieces of the old Lake Shore and Michigan Southern...…….there is another piece of it on Mt Hope and Washington. Why haven't the tracks all been pulled out if these are abandoned rails? That is a lot of steel wasting away
I really don't know. Maybe it's because there's a possibility the line could be used again someday.
There has been a lot of talk of using the spur in North Lansing for larger shipments, and to this day it does have some irregular business. Our friend here just doesn't realize it...
***** I heard something about that.
May I also remind you that scrap steel is nearly worthless unless you have a ton of it, and that rail could be reused elsewhere.
JacksonAndLansing Railroad cool
