Jul 5, 2016 - The problem arises when African-American artists, create albums that are Pro-Black and have direct influence from Africa, yet announce tours for these albums ... African and a music fan is disheartening, amongst other things. The biggest point of contention is how often we get to see our favourite international acts visit if they even do come. For most artists/bands, while still problematic, they still get a pass because a band like Radiohead hasn’t tried to create some solidarity with Africa (That I’m aware of). The problem arises when African-American artists, create albums that are Pro-Black and have direct influence from Africa, yet announce tours for these albums that don’t involve African countries Yes, most of these artist’s target market is an African-American audience but much of the imagery shared in albums such as Beyonce’s Lemonade and Kendrick Lamar’s To Pimp a Butterfly have resonated through the minds and souls of multitudes of African diaspora and Africans themselves. Indie artists can be absolved from this but Beyonce and Kendrick Lamar do actually have the social and economic capital to pull off a tour to Africa.

We've been 'following' since way back, back before the dawn of democracy. We both share a similar history in so many ways and it's only natural that we feel more close to them than the rest of Africa. For your information we didn't just start 'following AA' yesterday like the rest of Africa, we literally grew up on AA history, music and movies lije I said before. Instead of trying to sound smart, rather tell your other favorite African countries to invest in infrastructure cos maybe, just maybe, AA artists might start going to perform there as well. And please tell them to stop pretending like they're the best Africa can offer, especially the green, white and green, thank you
Buster Rhymes was recently here and he extended his stay. He said it himself that absolutely loved it, he was in various clubs enjoying himself to the fullest, he even stated that he wants a home here, we are indeed a hospitable people.
Very true CD, not only those who grew up in the nineties. My parents also used to make comments like “you look like a black American”. We love our black Americans brothers and sisters from deep down our hearts. Sans were up in arms when that organisation was trying to stop him from coming to SA. It was a buzz in my home. The love that was portrayed in my house was just amazing. Chris apologised, they made up with Rihanna, so why must we punish him forever. We give people a chance. Sans love black Americans.
I know! It's weird that they get offended that we acknowledge our American ancestry. No other diaspora use the prefix "African" before their nationality.
Actually, Chris Brown acknowledges that he is African American, just go watch his interview with Shanon Sharpe at his studio, in which Sharpe goes over his many accolades addressing him as the top selling African American male touring artist, CB didn’t blink an eye, or correct him. If he did not want to be identified as AA, he would have said so during his interviews like Smokey Robinson & Floyd Mayweather have done during interviews. Him having acknowledged that he has some Native ancestry somewhere down the line does not make him less African American. Most African Americans have some admixtures, more so European than anything else, it doesn’t make you less AA. If he shared the same sentiments about Africans as FBAs, then he wouldn’t even have worked with the multiple African artists that he has, let alone go to South Africa. Also, he went to South Africa early in his career when played a character on one of their Soap Operas called Generations. He is not like FBA claiming folks at all🤨
@@choochooj9738 Was Chris Brown born and raised in America? Yes, he was, so he is a Foundational Black American. Don't you Africans alway say that Africa is a continent? There is no African-Haitians, African-Jamaicans, African-Cubans, etc. Why do Africans like yourself have this weird hangup about Black Americans identifying as our nationality and culture?
The black Americans concept have always been with us South Africans since the 1940s and before with some even gone as to form gangsters groups with the names in Sophia Town and District Six "Americans" as their label before the Apartheid demolished those progressive communities. We continued where our forefathers left off after the demolition of Apartheid where we began to to get exposed to the Black Americans music and lifestyle. Most of our struggle heroes learned most of the philosophy they used to fight the Apartheid system from the likes of Malcolm X, Martin Luther King and others as their way of resisting the oppressive laws of Apartheid. Despite all that, we always maintained our African roots and mixed with it everything else we learned from the Jamaicans, African Americans and from our continent we were much exposed to the Ghanaian version of Africa so much that I grew up thinking Jamaica and Ghana were one and the same country

There's also something that need to be corrected about the capacity of FNB Stadium. The sitting capacity, which is the number of the seats that are able to accommodate "bums on seats" is 94 000 plus... however, in the actual number of people that can be absorbed by a stadium in terms of entry arrangements in a music concert environment... people get to occupy even the surface and it surrounding which could easily be more than 20 000. So I wasn't there but from what I see there far more that 94 000 people there though I'm not sure as the actual number of tickets sold but I know my people... there was definitely more 120 000 people there.
I believe you've hit on the head in terms of numbers at the FNB Stadium. However, the extra 736 seats comes from the maximum number of people that VIP Booths can hold, hence people make a total of 94736 seats (I stand corrected).

Your insight about "FBA" is completely wrong. Foundational Black Americans are well aware of our African decent, but we clearly understand that culturally and nationally, we are American. I don't know why this is difficult for so many Africans to understand. Even your fellow African brethrens don't understand why some of us call ourselves "African-Americans" when we weren't born and raised there.
He basically said, we are not interested in FBA but they are on all our platforms. We are interested in those that I.D as African American, or the Pan-African Americans. FBA's can sit this out, it's an obssession at this point.
His insight was very accurate, the vast majority of FBAs claim that they are not Black ppl of African descent, at all. The use of African in AA, is an umbrella word, or blanketed word for American descendants of slavery. Due to the fact that our ancestors came from multiple countries & ethnic groups/tribes from West & Central Africa. African American as a designation, symbolizes all those ethnic groups & countries bcuz we are an amalgamation of those said groups & heritage & nationality American. That title has been cited as being used, as far back as the late 1700s in our own publications, news letters, etc, which can easily be researched. The title AA, was never meant to describe recently immigrated Africans, whom typically go by their country of origin & American nationality such as with Nigerian Americans, Ghanaian American, Congolese American. I’ve yet to come across any recently immigrated African that goes by African American.
@mikamwambazi3807 I'll make this simple for you. Was Chris Brown born and raised in America or Africa? It's amazing how you Africans are quick to say Black Americans don't have no culture, but because y'all like Chris Brown, he's all of sudden African now? Lol

Our mothers and Gogo's ruined their hairlines trying to achieve that look kaDiana Ross and other African American actresses/musicians of the 70's to early 2000's🤣 little did they know some were wearing wigs or were mixed race.
Some of our artists were wearing wigs but had plenty of hair underneath. Our artist back then didn’t have Glam Squads like you see now, especially in the 60s & 70s, so they threw on wigs, not bcuz they didn’t have hair, it was just easier to maintain during touring. Also, natural hairstyles were not accepted in the workplace, as it did not conform to western beauty standards, so BW wore wigs, or started using relaxers in order to gain employment. The Afro era which was in the late 60s & 70s, was a moment in time but eventually it was deemed too Black, especially for the workplace. Albeit May, we still rocked Afrocentric fashions & hairstyles despite what wp had to say, then we started other trends but natural styles, are back even more now, with the natural hair care products that are available & the Crown Act😉
Relax it is no longer about that, not here in SA. People are ahead of/ with life here. Chris Brown is a star he is. Then & now. Many American artists have visited the country & it wasn't anything out of the ordinary. It wasnt his first visit here. Chill, South Africans love Chris Brown period.

I just subscribed to your channel hands down you are absolutely right. Some people speak against one another because they want content. I've heard one or two black people say they didn't like Africans and vice versa. They're just doing it to get likes or dislikes because either way they get credit for it. And I have y'all to know my cousin Chris Brown he's about 95% African. If that's the Chris Brown on my DNA profile and I believe it is we are 95% African. He's my fourth cousin. The black power 70s movement was a trip and some of the best fashion back in the day and it's still coming back and young people were wearing it now so they always say there's nothing new under the Sun that's true. The natural hair movement is coming back. Hair relaxers have really messed up a lot of men and women's hair follicles. Went bald in the process. Some of the groups from the 60s and 70s they used to conk their hair. They put relaxers in it and then do finger waves.😂 South Africa has always been the vibe for me. Shouldn't we all Blacks be proud of the guy?
The vast majority of African Americans have not canceled CB, those that have are far & few. His concerts & statewide tours are still filling up arenas & stadiums. We are only about 14% of the population, so it is not Black ppl canceling CB, we still very much support him & attend his concerts all across the U.S. as well as other demographics of ppl. To be cancelled in the states for say, African American artists is to not have opportunities with the Grammys, Super Bowl, etc & negative press. CB has performed at the 49th Grammys, early in his career with his single “Run It” & the 54th Grammys with “Turn Up The Music/Beautiful People” but has not performed since. He was suppose to do a tribute to MJ at the American Music Awards in 2022 but the performance was cancelled by the producers. The Problem With Afrocentric Musicians Who Don't Tour ...

The problem arises when African-American artists, create albums that are Pro-Black and have direct influence from Africa, yet announce tours for these albums that don’t involve African countries
Yes, most of these artist’s target market is an African-American audience but much of the imagery shared in albums such as Beyonce’s Lemonade and Kendrick Lamar’s To Pimp a Butterfly have resonated through the minds and souls of multitudes of African diaspora and Africans themselves. Indie artists can be absolved from this but Beyonce and Kendrick Lamar do actually have the social and economic capital to pull off a tour to Africa.
What Black American artists waited until they were old and needed money to perform in Africa?
Believe me they are not coming and no one cares. We owe you NOTHING!
@@KoolE23
NONE! Black Americans have helped South Africans more than any group. DIVESTMENT came out of BLACK AMERICANS, from a COKE CEO. These people really think we owe them A LEVEL OF RESPECT which is something that their own Black government doesn't give them and they don't give to each other! FOH
Nelson Mandela came to Harlem, New York in 1990 to thank Black Americans for leading the World wide Economic Boycott of South Africa which helped end Apartheid in South Africa and started Independence, We as Black Americans have always been with South African, it didn’t start with Chris Brown, the History of South Africa and Black Americans have always been Strong and will continue

We all did in Africa smh
"most" can you back up this with data?
@manofsorrow4785 no data needed there, just ask any black SA you come across. Don't put us in the same bracket as the rest of Africa when it comes to our relationship with AA.

Sorry to burst your bubble but Chris Brown is a foundational black American what's the problem with y'all with us acknowledging our lineage
I know! It's weird that they get offended that we acknowledge our American ancestry. No other diaspora use the prefix "African" before their nationality.
@KoolE23 our people stumped so hard for them during the apartheid, they have no gratitude
What African country is Chris Brown from? No other diaspora put a "African" prefix in front of their nationality. There is no African-Haitians, African-Jamaicans, African-Cubans, etc. Why do Africans like yourself have this weird hangup about Black Americans identifying as our nationality and culture?
@choochooj9738 Chris Brown is a foundational black American just like me
The black Americans concept have always been with us South Africans since the 1940s and before with some even gone as to form gangsters groups with the names in Sophia Town and District Six "Americans" as their label before the Apartheid demolished those progressive communities.

And that's not even counting the 20 000+ ppl outside the stadium.

Our mothers and Gogo's ruined their hairlines trying to achieve that look kaDiana Ross and other African American actresses/musicians of the 70's to early 2000's🤣 little did they know some were wearing wigs or were mixed race.
🤣🤣🤣🤣
So true, I never knew about their wigs until the 2000s😂😂😂

I've never been but I've always been influenced by your music I have friends from all over the continent. My hope is for ALL BLACK ARTIST'S all over the World 🌎. Sees This Overwhelming Home Coming for Chris Brown. Sellout 2 Days in a row....My prar is for Deserving Black Artist's. To recieve All their hard work finances, goes into their bank accounts. I wouldn't be surprised if Chris Brown moves to Afrika 💯✊🏾✊🏾✊🏾🤴🏾❤️
Chris Brown is a FBAs ( Foundational Black Americans) not african lets get that straight please.
Exactly...apart from our music we grew up listening to their music. They only recently faded into obscurity. They gave us beautiful childhood memories. What I dislike about them is this black on black cancel culture. The world is trying to do exactly that..how are you not standing together? I feel like they've been conditioned by the west to hate on each other. Black people are not designed that way. UBUNTU is real in any black person. How do you end up canceling one of your own, knowing his struggles with ADHD and emotional issues? How am I so proud of Chris Brown merely on the fact that he is Black? Shouldn't we all Blacks be proud of the guy?
Their music has been cancelled by Afrobeats and Amapiano, which is better.
He has yet to perform at the Super Bowl halftime show which is why he called his concerts in South Africa the Breezy Bowl, all that ain’t got nothing to do with the Black community in the states, that’s them ppl😏
@@mikamwambazi3807Our music has not been canceled hun, not by Amapiano, nor Afrobeats, we very much still have our own genre of music that is still topping the charts. Also, it was AA artists, AA radio stations & platforms that are the first to put on African music, as it is marketed to us first for obvious reasons. If not for say CB & Beyoncé many Americans would have never heard of Afrobeat, or Amapiano. It became known by way of African American artists collaborating with African artists whom already had a platform but by working with American artists the genres of African music was able to crossover to the American market.
African Americans came out in the thousands to support WizKid & Tems at Essence Festival in New Orleans, are fans of Davido, as well as other African artists that we support. So before you slight AA artist & music, realize we were the first to appreciate & support both Amapiano & Afrobeats in the states😏
Oh wow, I've finally put the voice to the face.
7:49 - true. I'm in the security service industry and there has been an influx of Americans, both White and black, and you guys are ok, you don't act like you know it all, you don't look down on us, you respectful. Just please don't become Jozi end of year visitors(definitely not Joburgs best)

Buti Clantis, Thank you for the video, please also the let the artists know ukuthi they must come and give a good performance and put in the effort for a great entertainment and not take South Africans and fellow Africans for a ride with mediocre performance. Ngiyabonga!
We have always had some of the best and most talented entertainers. That's only the blessings of God.
Chris We thank you ❤
What are foundational black americans
@retirementtoafrica
"FBA" Foundational Black American Citizens Are Not: Generic Africans, Immigrants, Migrants, Foreigners, Anchor ⚓ Babies 🍼 Or Illegal Aliens.🤧
He made a lot , and i believe we also made something ku tourism. He might had so much expenses 😅, to pay for the stadium, his band , etc
I understand that we may have made well above the R100m mark in tourism.
you think so?, that will be a good Christmas for our corrupt ntoni ntoni
Hai chief, the part were you said people here in SA compliment on you looks by saying you look like an AA, I won't lie that's the first time I've ever heard that. 🤞🏾
😂😂
I'm actually learning that some South Africans have never heard this before. However, I did mention that it's a generational thing, especially with Baby Boomers, GenXs, and early Millenials. Perhaps also may depend where you grew up and been aware of Black Pop Culture of the 40s, 50s, 60s, ESPECIALLY 70s and 80s.
u the only one who never heard that 😅
Especially when perm, scull and afro hairstyles were in fashion. It's so true, it generational issue. ❤❤❤❤Soweto
😂😂😂
We love Chris Brown,we Will give him a piece of Land
He filled the biggest stadium in Africa
Folks, PLEASE REMEMBER, he is an ENTERTAINER. WHAT do ENTERTAINERS do???
But the video is NOT about that OBVIOUS element.
There is no South African who speaks eloquently and factual like this . Sir ur Zimbabwean.
Jy praat twaak...
12:40 - Amen to that brother. how true
What's your problem with foundational black Americans acknowledging our lineage
Your input is simply not relevant to the African diaspora, that’s all. The African diaspora is in the millions across the globe, which extends from North America, the Caribbean Islands which are considered a subregion of North America, South America i.e., Brazil, even some descendants of enslaved Africans in the U.K. & Mexico.
Yal say you are not Black ppl of African descent, different lineage altogether right?? FBAs have nothing to do with the diaspora, yal ancestors were homegrown remember, what is your problem with leaving the diaspora at peace🤔
@choochooj9738 foundational black Americans are a part of the diaspora and we will not stop calling ourselves that and this is social media I can go where the hell I want to go our lineage is foundational black American to the United States of America
@@Loveamericasave How are you of the African diaspora if you don’t claim to be Black of African descent in America, you’re confused😖
@@Loveamericasave Oh continue to call yourselves FBA & we will continue to ignore you. Yal said you wanted to delineate from the diaspora, perhaps you should check with your brethren’s.
You can’t have disdain for Africans, let alone deny your African ancestry & be of the diaspora family, it doesn’t work that way. Claim what you want, it’s just not part of our global fam, it is, what it is, that’s all😉
CB was the Victim actually...she hit him 1st, beating up on him in the car while he was driving, and he defended himself...She's the victim because the feminist culture in America is crazyy and obviously he's stronger than her so she gonna bruise baaad. It sucks that it happened to her but I'm not with the dbl standards. No-one should be putting their hands on others. She felt comfortable because she knew she would get away with it. don't dish it out if yo can't take it back periodt.
They have forgiven each other and there;s a video of them greeting each other at an event.
@@jpaultelchannel1702 ik lol. It just grinds my nerves when I hear people bring up his past like he's some kind of monster, while no-one condemns her for aggravated assault because she's a woman.
It’s all in the past now 😂❤
Thanks Clantis! I'll be in Joburg Feb 2025. Hope I get to meet you when I get there.😀😀😀😀
I'll email the dates.😃
