I think that CPS should be charged for murder too, because they allowed this child to remain with these monsters.

I was foster mom. The reports I'd read were horrid and cps would comment boys are at medium risk!? Why is there a scale? Any abuse is criminal.

You open a whole can of worms if children are taken away just on multiple allegations with no evidence to the allegations. But if there is evidence and nothing was done then yes CPS should be held accountable.
I know CPS is overworked and underpaid, but that is a ridiculous amount of cases against this woman.

Dear Judge Boyd, I have watched you in many cases. You are always composed and astute. Your measurements of judgments are always fair.
This entire trial of Jose and Katrina was angering me, and I was heartbroken for both girls. The surviving child, Jordan, will never forget what she saw and heard. The police and medical attendees will never forget.
I hope citizens and family members will never forget and make the calls to the PD and CPS.
My heart aches for you. I pray God helps you to forget the horrific photos.
My greatest admiration is given to you for getting justice for little Mercedes.
May she run up and down those streets of Gold.😢
What a load of garbage that the mother didn't know her baby girl was physically emotionally and mentally abused. I feel so sad that that poor child lost her life knowing she was lessor than her sister through her mother, her extended family members,, CPS and now the prosecutor..it sickens me greatly.

That cps worker honestly should be fired and not allowed to work in the field again and sent to prison for a few years. She was so negligent of her mandatory reporter status it's offensive. She literally could have saved that child with one phone call. She failed the basics of her job. "Keep the child out of harm." Her not reporting just on the basis of "Hey, this child is in danger." It reminds me of the Powell case where the CPS should have listened to the grandparents and revoked contact with the children to their father because he was unstable and planning to unalive them. I lived half a mile away from where that took place, and CPS failed there. We need a new system that actually cares for children. CPS clearly don't. Instead of defunding police, let's defund CPS, take their grants for other programs that care.
ETA - It would have been harder for Katrina to get her child back and prove her home was a safe environment, from my experience with CPS. You have to jump through flaming hoops to prove you are a fit parent. They could have cited anything to remove those children. The boyfriend was more than enough reason. "No strange men around children since mother has a problem with unstable home." I see why Judge Boyd puts hard limitations on "no contact with minors" is to protect the children involved because she's seen the outcomes too much.
What are this CPS worker's credentials?

Judge Boyd is an outstanding Judge! I love her, she's awesome and so fair.
What makes me want to vomit is the excuse that the mother was young and therefore not fully responsible. This is a disservice to every young mother who makes a good go of things and surprise, their children live and thrive. Do we need to start putting young women on state mandated birth control just in case they become monsters like this one? Of course not, but maybe the state needs to keep a closer eye on these kids having kids. Stop making it attractive for kids to have kids, not knowing how to look after themselves let alone a child. Makes me want to puke. That poor baby!

Repeated complaints and reports of neglect and abuse since 2016 and CPS allowed that to go on for years?! The children were never removed from their mother's custody and when she disappeared with the children, CPS didn't get involved and didn't get the police involved in looking for them. What an abject failure by that agency 😡. I'm sure those filing reports were so frustrated and when Mercedes was killed, they were devastated beyond words. 💔
CPS loves to take children of innocent parents. Put them through hell and takes months to get their children back. The innocent parents are praying their children are not being harmed with the foster family. There are great foster families out there and we all know there are foster families who see these children as a meal ticket.
CPS needs a complete overhaul. This system we have in place all over the nation is Not Working.

cps once again letting an innocent child slip through the cracks to their death because they are so overworked and understaffed……it’s going to get 100,000 times worse in coming years due to women no longer having the right to choose to abort if they want. I hope EVERY person who supports that and helped make that happen either becomes a foster parent, adopts, or becomes a social worker…. you need to act once the children are born not just worry about when they’re cells.
1st of all, where were the statutory gRape charges for this 14 yr old girl having 2 children in 8 mos? Where were the truancy officers, because she's not even old enough to drop out!!! As for blame, the courts, CPS, the family, the mom, the boyfriend - There's so much damn blame to spread everywhere! CPS & the family courts are just broken. They're chasing kids to take away from good families for bizarre reasons, but then cases like this, they can't be bothered to even call the cops & find the kids in danger! 6 previous CPS cases and one still open a month before the death!!. That CPS case was on her own though and had nothing to do with the guy. She did her fair share of abusing and neglecting on her own then has him top it all off. She should have her children removed at the second case ansd them never returned she was not feeding that little girl from the get go. This mom needs to pray that God will show mercy on her soul when her time comes.
She deserves Life in prison. Her attorney is obviously not on the child's side of Living! Hopefully he can sleep at nights..

I've always wanted to become a lawyer, but never a defense lawyer because of cases such as this. Heaven forbid if I did anything wrong and had to appear before Judge Boyd, I'd handcuff myself.

Here's the thing: Here in the UK, we have a *Royal* Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals but only a *National* Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children. I think that this illustrates how in English-speaking society, our view of the relative values of cute fluffy animals and our children is deeply and dramatically skewed in the wront direction and it allows atrocities like this to be possible.

Although she won't get her preferred form of psychological help, she can still ask for screening in TDCJ-ID as she'll need help readjusting after prison.

I’m still trying to figure out how her two girls are 8 months apart. And CPS saw a picture and that was enough to determine they were bonded to each other. They should add a common sense course in CPS school.
The areas that are necessary and preventable was not applied. Ive worked with CPS, The ones that care get burned out and carry the load. Often Agencies dont communicate 19:41 options that are available are unknown! Mostly understaffed and underpaid. Social programs dont help or bother the 1%.
This family and CPS allowed this to happen that poor child. Children now seem to be a disposable commodity. Don’t like the one you have, get rid of abs make another. Just about daily read or look at social media the end of child’s life it missing never be seen again
