I’ve always been very loyal to Denty moore beef stew since I was a kid, we would go camping or backpacking.I would always bring a couple cans and after a long day of hiking that can contained heaven inside of it!! I always keep about 6 to 10 big 2 pound cans in my house at all times, it gives me a warm, cozy, feeling knowing they’re there for me!

I like to give canned stew's a heavy hit of onion powder, garlic powder and pepper to up the flavor. I find for any canned soups/stews, getting them really hot before eating improves the flavor, I figure it melts and blends in the fat and preservatives better, lol. Also I find any canned soups/stews heated on the stove has a noticeably different taste than when heated in the microwave, usually it's better.

🙏🏻 I use garlic and onion powder and I also add a tiny amount of heat to it. Idk why but I truly dislike the taste of armour….. dinty tastes way better imo. Also armour using trash meat cuts for their beef dinty doesn’t

I like it (DM) over rice too but I am in a truck right now using a slow cooker so I added some minute Rice to the Armour stew. I'm eating the Armour Stew simply to try it, I've never had it, I like it all right but the potatoes taste closer to freshly cooked than the Dinty Moore, that's a plus for me, but yeah it's totally lacking in the beef! Also the Armour Stew is kind of greasy! :(

I drove long haul for 35 years. I would cook and freeze meals at home and eat good for a couple weeks. Usually, by my third week out, I had to start cooking in the truck or eating the swill they serve at truck stops. Retired from forward air.

Dinty Moore has always been my choice since I was a teen. One thing to watch on the pop tops though is that they can loosen, if they are popped up or loose, do not eat it. Not sure length of time on those. I did get some pop top beans from the food pantry and every one had popped up lids, sadly all went in the trash as I was not chancing getting ill.

Dinty is 100% better…. I add onion and garlic powder and you should let it sit for 2-3 minutes to thicken. Dinty actually keeps me alive I have issues eating food but dinty has always been my go too. I eat at least one can a day I know it’s not great for me but better then not eating. I threw away armour last time I got it… it tastes bland and the texture isn’t great compared to dinty imo

Dinty Moore has been my standby for as long as I can remember. I keep a can of that and the “old school” Campbells chicken noodle soup in my food box for work. If you were to go into my overland box in my suburban, or the cabinet of my trailer or the camper for my Ford, there’s at least two cans. Best comfort food ever 😋

You have to feed the pooch during lean times too, although I wouldn't give him that Armour stew straight ... use a bit of it for flavoring over his dry doggie food. Refrigerate the rest of the can until it's used up. Glad you opened both cans and did the side-by-side. What a difference! The Armour didn't look like the picture on the can AT ALL!!!

I had some leftover rice and gravy & I mixed a can of Armour with, MUCH better than usual - A mix of white and wild rice; I will make it that way going forward. NOTHING is better than homemade, and since I've got the roaster/slow cooker (22qt) now, I will try making and canning my own now! Have never canned anything at all before, so it will be a learning experience. I make a multi-meat hunters stew with brown beer as the liquid base - gets rave reviews.

Pooch appeared to give his bark of approval for Dinty Moore.
At times when I bought a can of DM, if it did not have much meat I would boil some meatballs or other meat for about 20 minutes or so, then put the meat into the pan that has DM. Always a good idea to add more meat.

No it's not weird. Her I am a year later and I can tell you there is little to no meat in a can in Armor. I just ate a can, and gave the rest to my dog. There is more meat in one can of Walmarts GV beef stew than 20 plus cans of Armor.
I might add that Armor you poor out of the can. GV you have to shake out then use a spoon to get the rest out.

Armour has 460 calories per can; DM has 500. Each derives approximately half its calories from fat, and they contain a lot of salt. Good camping food but not the best for those with high BP. Armour's meat appears to be shredded into tiny shreds. Dinty Moore all the way...

I did the comparison test. Yes, the Dinty Moore did appear to have more meat and carrots, which actually seemed kind of bland and tasteless. And broth seemed more watery. Not tasty at all. However, the Armor Star had a thicker, tastier broth. Broth actually has a delicious meaty taste. More than made up for the visual lack of ingredients. In my opinion, the Armor Star is much better! I agree with you a million times over. The pieces of meat are tiny in armour BUT that gravy is much more flavorful, and Dinty Moore has a harsh and overbearing taste of carrots in everything. It’s offensive.
Armour is the best canned beef stew. The potatoes are the best ingredient to be heated, so it just makes sense there are most of those. Plus they are filling and nutritious.

Believe it or not, during manufacturing process each item in the can is actually measured by weight (at Campbell Soup anyways) and shouldn't be too far off can to can. They may have had a clog in the meat chamber and the can should have been rejected by weight. Not sure what was up with Armour that day.

We did the same with Chicken & Dumplings. Dinty Moore vs Sweet Sue. SS looks like the better value, being a bigger can and costing less. Is it just me or do the portion sizes seem very small on those? Beef stew usually has a both your meat and your veggies. Normal portions on veggies of those types would range from 1/2 to one cup of each and you're supposed to have at least 2. A portion of meat is supposed to be about the size of the palm of your hand. Unless those cans are larger than they seem it looks like they are going more by calories for the portion size than actual portions should be.

Doing the same thing, here, for hard times. Made a run this morning to a Walmart east of us. Will do the same thing EARLY in the morning to the one south of us for Flu Shots. And to pick up some things I want but couldn't get at the east one. Want some more dark brown sugar, for example. Wish I could stock up on that Dinty stew. It does look good. No way, I could eat a cup of the Armour with over half of the salt needed per day for a healthy young man. Dinty is better, but still too high. (sigh) Canned some hamburger patties (they'll work in soup), some beef stew meat last week and 17 pints of carrots, too. Already canned taters & dehydrated celery. Yes, there usually is a work-a-round when necessary. :-)
BTW, Look at the serving size on cans of stuff. In this case, both stews the serving size was 1 cup. All the grams and percentages are based on that 1 cup. That makes it easy for me, as I've never been able to do ciphering in my head. I'm terrible at arithmetic!
Serving size is important, too. As far as I know, there are no "rules" for what makes up a serving. Suspect sometimes the serving size is deliberately small in order to make those percentages look better.
Often there's a big difference between what I call a serving and what's on the label of a can. When I'm hungry, sometimes the WHOLE can is a single serving. Looked up the Armour - 20 oz can = 2 servings. So double all the grams, calories and percentages. Daily allowance % on sodium for a can = 108%. YIKES!!!!!
Thanks for sharing, my friend. Keep those facing Sally in your prayers along with so many others who are in the eye of storms.
    God Bless.

I used to love Armour Beef Stew. I've eaten for many years. I remember when it used to have Beef in it but now it's just Beef flavored runny gravy with a few carrots and potatoes thrown in. It should be called,Beef Flavored Stew sine they took out the Beef. Shame on Armour.

When it comes to survival food, besides taste, Dinty Moore is more gooder for calories and protein if you calculate the contents of the whole cans. Also has less sodium in the whole can vs the Armour. Eat on!

Dinty Moore is alright. I’ve purchased it a few times bc I wanted something hearty without having to actually cook anything lol. But I’ll probably stop buying it. The meat tastes like dog food. It’s not horrible, but not really appetizing.
I enjoyed the gravy part of the soup, also liked the potatoes and carrots. The gravy is definitely bland but it suffices ha. The carrots break apart really easily, and the potatoes are quite hard compared to the meat and carrots. The stew is a solid 4-5/10 for me.

Unfortunately, yes. There is one that’s sold in aldis that still uses beef but I can’t remember the name. In the ingredients, look for TVP, or textured vegetable protein. That’s what they are making the Burger King impossible burger from. It’s mostly soy beans and chemicals. Horrible stuff.

    MY COMMENT IS FOR ENTERTAINMENT.
From what i've read you gotta be careful with the "E-Z OPEN" tops ; Apparently they don't store as well. I did just watch a man in alaska eat a can of dinty 6 years past its date .. So that's something.. keep in mind it was probably pretty cold up there .You have to account for that .
Considering the dinty moore meat is basically just textured protein .. I'm actually considering going to hunt down some armour brand simply because it's a nice gravy without all the bullsh*t..higher sodium for long term storage , and a stronger seal.. . Just bought 3 cans of dinty kind of pricey at 3 bucks a pop maybe i'll check aldi ; but i'll eat one tonight to see how i feel about the actual flavor and experience..that counts too!
    * EDIT !!!
I just tried the dinty and i added 1 fl oz water ; black + red pepper ; Bavarian Seasoning ; Parsley . . medium heat on stove until it bubbles .. The meat seems mostly real i can taste the iron . Regardless even if you halfway believe it's real that will your parties spirit. . I'm not even gonna bother i'm sold on dintys as far as beef stew in a can goes. There is not a damn thing wrong with it.

Going on just protein and calories. Dinty Moore has 25g of protein per can and 500 calories, the Armour has 16g of protein and 460 calories. I agree that Dinty Moore tastes way better also.

Brad, the Dinty Moore beef chunks stay together better because they add the "Textured Vegetable Protein" to it. The Armour is real beef. Compare the ingredients. I have health issues that require that I really watch these things, so you might not care. Thanks for sharing :) Aloha

Just tried Armor beef stew as the store was out of Denty Moore and even the store brand. Never again. Should be labeled gravey with a few pieces of carrots and potatoes. Really disappointed. Your can on this video has way more carrots and potatoes than the one just had. Maybe mine was from the bottom of the pot.
Walmart and Meijer store brands are both way better than Armor.
And like you said Denty Moore has the pull top lid. Denty Moore ls only a few cents more than store brand so that's usually my choice.
