The important thing is, even today he is sincerely loved and appreciated by at least 40-50 million people in Turkey, and who knows how many more around the world. He brought us a century forward, gave us a modern government, and created the constitution that works for EVERY MAN AND WOMAN equally, gave us the democracy instead of monarchy. Some people are criticizing his ways and authoritarianism? Well, I will answer them with one great sentence from the documentary; "Ataturk is dictator, so that Turkey may never again have a dictator."
You don't simply drop peach juice on the shoulder of a dictator and then laugh it off along with him lol. He is always going to be the founder of our country and a respected and loved man despite the efforts of some. His reforms made Turkey a modern country and hopefully one day we will return to the days of science and progress.
MUSTAFA KEMAL did not christened him self as ATATURK(father of TURKS) it was given by the parliament to him as a surname. besides told many times in the video ATATURK was not a DICDATOR he did what was nessasary for Turkey to never have a dicdator again,he was a role model for all the Turks and other nations. By the indipendence war of TURKEY he proved that Imperialism can be defeated and inspired such as GANDHI ,CHE GUEVARA and many others.NONE WILL COME LIKE HIM...
Thank you for the Kemalist rant. Don't assume that I agree or disagree with you. Of course subtlety is wasted on a mind like yours, but here's a "subtle" suggestion. Go to Istanbul now that Erdogan has set it on a post-Kemalist track, get up on a soapbox, and try out a rant praising Ataturk. I promise you that you'll have some level of lodging and food for the foreseeable future!
actualy the documenttary says exacly that he was christined* the passive form. as in he was made in that way by someone else and not that he made it himself.
Independence? What are you talking about? They stabbed their former British ally in the back and sided with the losing side. Then they had to fight for survival. But before that they were a colonial empire.
Realizing this is mostly a propaganda-styled film, I still enjoyed it very much as it was power packed with historical information. Actually this brings very fond memories to me. First, during High School I remember reading an article on Reader's Digest about the Turkish Army, which was something that got me interested in the country. Providentially later in life I would say, I was fortunate to be stationed in Turkey during the Cold War, & thoroughly enjoyed learning about the culture & some of the language of this people. In fact, Turkish hospitality to me was unique in the world, in fact greater than in the so-called Christian Western World, & that was something I'll never forget. Thank you very much for posting.....fond memories......

He was Bektashi Alevi Muslim.. Churches are converted to Mosques, some have doors moved to face Mecca.. Ataturk was Secular Muslim, he only practiced the humanism and politics, not the superstition and beliefs that science does not approve of..
He had the Quran read by imams while preparing for the Battle of Sakarya. So he was not necessarily agnostic or an atheist. I think Ataturk believed in God. However, he valued science more than anything else, which is one of the reasons I love and respect him. He told everyone to value science first and foremost.
