As a firefighter of 8 years I love watching all these old firefighting series they are great, thanks John. I think we get an easier time of it these days than the old school lads n girls
Watched all of them, I think six total. Very interesting with a good combination of crew dialogue and appropriate commentary from the narrator. Seems a simpler time with good guys, limited radios, teletypes, and interesting human dynamics with the public. Very consistent service delivery to the public and no egos or attitudes. Pragmatic approach with emphasis on life safety considering the complicated buildings and dense population. Fascinating docu-series.
The original Old Swan fire station on Derby Lane is now a fire place showroom. The later Old Swan fire station on Queen's Drive (opposite Alder Road) replaced the original.
The old station used to have a hayloft !!! For when its "fire engines" really WERE "horse powered". That's how old the station was !!! I used to LOVE being detached there... good fellers as well.
It is interesting how things change over time and how things are different in various countries. The selective use of BA's would never be tolerated today.
I've watched this a fair few times over the years, and every time I can't help but think "Who lives in those houses directly opposite the station?" They must either be deaf or the soundest sleepers known to mankind.
I'd been "in the job" in Liverpool city centre for 12 years at the time this was made. Gary Hollis and John Graves both had a few years before me in. I retired in 2016 and they'd BOTH gone before me. Most of the people in this show will have retired, but in one episode they had a "recruit course" just finished (I think the course was numbered 4/96) so most of the lads on that course in 2024 will be coming up for retirement in the next couple of years.
Peter luv, It's Georgina. December 2024, Peter is my brother in law, mate, I am so sorry about Adam. I'm still in bits.God Bless you, love going out to you. You are still my fave brother inlaw. ❤❤❤ xxx

generally they're poorer people.
It was a police station but does look like houses. The police station entrance was on the main road.
