Great content, I just recommended your channel to a pastor friend of mine that’s become very involved in live-streaming their service since 2020, you’re a great resource.
Posted here about a month ago on some of the in's and out's related to the tow new Go Pro 9's. Since then, have learned more about an issue we were facing related to turning the cameras off and then seeing both come back on after up to several minutes!! This resulted from having the batteries in the camera when using the media mod to get a clean hdmi feed to our switcher. Seems this is and has been a known issue to Go Pro and their recommendation is to remove the battery and run off the charger. (Not documented anywhere that I found.) Yes, that works and yes, we have the latest version of the firmware installed. Seems when the media mod is on, the camera switches to the battery versus using the power from a charger. With a preservice run thru and two live services, the battery would be down charge wise even if a charger was being used - another issue. Further, this at times, was intermittent - sometimes working fine but mostly not! (Am I crazy - I know I just turned those Go Pro's OFF.) Still recommend the Go Pro 9 for shots like inside of a drum cage and closeups of instruments!! The wide field of view even zoomed in does not work well for us because of our more open worship center and lighter backgrounds. Like any tool, there are pros and cons. Hope this helps others!!
Thank you for this video. After a long time found a video who provided real info. Now go pro are very advanced, should I go to latest, or go 10 is enough to record live on stage in full blown color lighting dedicated to each instrument? how about dJI action, does it work fine too? does it work with switcher or you recommend go pro?
The DJI and Insta360 cameras do not have HDMI ports, so there’s no good way of getting their signal into a switcher without significant delay on the image. Any of the recent models of GoPro should look fine. Make sure you have the media mod if you’re using anything above the Hero 7 black.
Great video! My GoPro just shows up in HDMI source on my Atem but the webcam shows a very small picture of the GoPro9 video. What setting went wrong on my gopro so the video size in ¼ of the normal size on the webcam
Thanks for a video like this for houses of worship!! We use two Go Pro 9's along with 3 Sony P/T/Z cameras and a fixed camcorder into an ATEM Mini Pro to live stream our two Sunday services and other events at our church in Apex NC! One Go Pro in the drum cage and one that is stand mounted and moved where necessary for an instrument shot. Takes some time to learn the in's and out's of the Go Pros. Are there any chat/sharing groups or similar for small to medium size churches related to live streaming??
Have you looked into the Church Sound, Lighting & Video Production FB group? There are several helpful people willing to discuss specifics. facebook.com/groups/717713321727328
My university is going to set up a podcast facility and I want to have very unobtrusive video capability as well. Considering GoPro cams to fee a small switcher rather than have bigger cams that become more crew hassle.
Hey, love the channel. I'm a pro flooring installer and would like to start live streaming on tiktok mounting the GoPro on top of my head somehow, and just going through flooring installation so my viewers can see it all live... my biggest concern is the battery life and the whole process of streaming, please get back to me or make a video how to live streak on tik tok always moving around and working with your hands!! Because I can't find any info on that or how to make that idea work!! THANK YOU
amazing video and so helpful!! Can you also go over how the audio would work? what would be the best way to get sound (ex. microphones) at a live event be inputted into your computer?
Alguma dica?
Brother once I saw your video I immediately knew you know your stuff and are the perfect teacher. I went to your website and unfortunately had no way to call you. So I decided to send you a message. My name is Jimmy and I need your help for setting up a small production 2 to 3 camera live and NON live recording. My situation is a lot easier of a production as I'm only filming a Craps table playing the casino game. I teach craps the dice game. I want 1 over head camera to film the dice that will display the numbers landed on from the roll against the back wall. I already setup the boom on the wall that extends 4ft out and is perfectly in the front center area to point down for dice capture. This camera will be the gopro 7 or 8. Old but I already own it. My 2nd camera will be a dji pocket 3 with a dji mic 2 clip on. It will capture the bets and be placed for that view. My final 3rd camera will be the gopro 8 to capture my face and throwing the dice. I'm basically staying in one spot will either focus on the grip of the dice view or just a overall view of my full body grabbing and releasing the throw. Right now I'm using 1 camera and just walking around the table filming as a recording and taking a single media mp4 file that is automatically sinked the audio and just uploading straight to UA-cam for my recorded videos. I also live stream directly using my dji 3 camera as a webcam and go live directly to UA-cam with no 3rd party software. I do know the basic features of obs studio. I use obs only for device capture when I'm recording something with my laptop screen. Example a simulation game I use ad a tutorial of a new strategy I'm showing. It's very easy and it's not live. I just capture it in obs ad a recording and use clip champ to do a really simple edit of the beginning and ending to remove the recording on and off footage. What I'm interested in is this and requesting your help. I need to know which switcher from your experience to purchase that would allow a multi camera way to do as a recorded video where it's one easy file. Also that will allow me to stream live directly to UA-cam. I'm not sure if I would need to use obs to setup sources and scenes or if the switcher allows me to simply plug the 3 cameras in and either record or live stream directly to UA-cam?? If you can take the time to provide a list of what equipment switcher and accessories like cables, etc. Needed I will order them ASAP. Also if you can provide a price you would charge me to do a Skype or messenger or other way for you to live talk to help setup and teach me how to setup. Once I learn I can understand exactly the switcher and functions. Also maybe your advice on the camera settings that will look best. If you go to my channel now you will see my craps videos I'm filming it's basic I want to have the best production where when I release the dice I simply hit the switcher button and it shows the camera on the dice landing. I can have the switcher on my craps table. Really appreciate it and look forward to hearing from you.
I have a GoPro 11 to use for our baptisms to show on the projection screens and our livestream. How can I get the power icon and sd card icon to not show?
To turn off the On Screen Display (OSD) on a GoPro Media Mod HDMI output, you can: 1. Press the mode button a few times until you reach the last icon, which looks like an eye 2. Select the icon by pressing the shutter button
Great video. I am considering using a GoPro Hero8 Black for an indoor livestreaming bodybuilding event. The camera will be held on a tripod and pointing only to the stage. it wont move. Can I use this setup? I havent bought the GoPro yet because I want to ensure I can link everything together with a basic windows laptop (but my daily driver is a MacBook Air M1).
Do I need to have a switcher in order to do a live stream outside is there additional app or I don't know if GoPro please drop me a message would really appreciate it
The latest GoPro (and a few models back) can livestream directly from the camera, however, a switcher is required to have multiple sources or to insert graphics
Indeed what I was thinking. I use them all the time. Had to replace bnc runs for them. Longest I ran so far was 328 feet. No signal loss and great quality
Hi! great video! one question, i use a gopro hero 7 black to an atem mini pro, all is ok, no info on the HDMI out, but as soon as i decided to record on the gopro, i cant get out the REC time counter and red dot of the HDMI out... is there any solution you know for this? Thanks!!
Luis, I don't have a in the office with me, but I was able to test it with a 9, and the HDMi can be clean while recording, but it's limited to internal recording at 1080 60 if you want reliable HDMI out and connection to the ATEM.
You can, and I have. You won’t have all the remote app capabilities but once the exposure and white balance is set, you’re good to go. Keep in mind that the older models don’t have HDMI outputs so you’ll need to convert the HD component signal to your final format.
@@pavementdotmedia specifically i will be using a gopro 12 as a camera using videocapturing device to OBS studio, so it won’t overheat thats what u mean right?
It shouldn’t overheat in that use case. I haven’t tested the 12 in that application yet, but it should work fine. Always test before using it in a mission critical setting.

I LOVE CHURCH AV PRODUCTION VIDEOS! You guys are always NICE, prepared, generous and knowledgeable. Or at least, the YT channel guys are!
Thank you for creating content that is church production-centric. it's highly appreciated.
Thanks a lot for the great content ! Now I know what a decimator is :)

Great comprehensive video! How do you deal with GoPros' short battery life? Use an external battery? Are GoPros capable of being run on AC power?
Thanks! Yes, use external power like your phone charger. I’ll often create a loom with the HDMI and USB cable together to keep things tidy.

Atomos Shogun gives an SDI A vs SDI B switching error. Trying to find work around.

wifi (2 antenna 2.4 ghz and 5 ghz);
USB-C for alimentation (power bank or AC)

Yeah, make a snarky condescending comment without explaining a better option.
