  • Here is a practice track of Makru (or Macrou, Macru, etc) with ballet rather than traditional dunduns. It is a seduction dance often played alongside Yankadi. It comes from the Susu people of Guinea, West African. This arrangement includes two djembe parts, a simplified sangban part with bell, and a ballet part with variations.
If you would like for it to be faster or slower, you can change the tempo incrementally by going to settings, playback speed, and custom (up top).
The parts I use are adapted from master drummer Fara Tolno's Rhythm Reference Project (www.rhythmrefer...) and Djembe Guru (www.djembeguru...). If you like what I'm doing, you'll love what he's doing!
That being said, you can use other parts learned elsewhere. There are different ways to arrange Makru.
I did this track and many more in response to the social isolation related to COVID-19. I had no one to drum with, and I figured others were in the same situation. You’ll find lots of other practice tracks on my UA-cam channel.
    Enjoy!
