      In reality, you can get good custom ones at a low price. My £30 custom build is my most popular one. There are decent prebuilt bats too that cost a bit less than that (I usually steer ppl to the Yinhe 01b or the Palio Expert if they really need something cheaper)

      It's truly truly fascinating isn't it? I'm amazed myself and I play the darn sport 😃
      I think it's a sport with the or one of the highest number of equipment combinations possible. In 2019, the ITTF said they had an all time record of more than 1,600 different rubbers registered as authorised playing rubbers. There are easily thousands upon thousands of table tennis blades, and because of how wood is no two blades are exactly the same. Table tennis rubbers also come in different thickness and you can vary the amount of table tennis glue (up to a particular legal maximum) to get different results.
      I absolutely love the amount of variety available 😆

    I would say invest in a small rubber squeegee just to clean this rubber and use nonsticky protective sheets as much as possible. Clean with plain water and the squeegee. Dont use microfiber cloth, no fabric, dont rub it on your towel, nothing but wet hand or the squeegee.

      does rubber cleaner kill the tacky?

  • @shogrran
    @shogrran Рік тому +337

    problem with rubbers like this is that the tackiness wears off even after just a day. youd always have to replace the rubber at regular intervals and depending how much you use. otherwise youd get used to a certain level of "worn-ness" of the sheet which you maybe cant replicate come tournament time.

    • @TheBatGuy
      @TheBatGuy  Рік тому +43

      Oh the initial crazy tackiness of Target-series rubbers always wears off quickly. Which is good because you gain speed but retain the spin capabilities of this rubber. I have a friend who likes Target National rubbers and commented, "A Target is forever" 😆 because the playing capabilities do last for long time - a couple of years even, depending on how often you use it. The top sheet itself gets marks easily but the rubber still plays well regardless

    • @mallusaih
      @mallusaih Рік тому +15

      probably intentional though. I would assume it becomes a better rubber after it wears down. Similar to what happens with professional yoyo pads that start a little weird and play perfectly once broken in

    At some point you have to wonder whether they're still making rubber or a slow-creep form of contact cement. You can make a rubber surface essentially infinitely tacky if you don't care about durability or elasticity (retaining energy on bounce vs. dampening), but gotta wonder what the tradeoff is like a few months or a year after playing on it.

  • @uchihasasuke7436
    @uchihasasuke7436 Рік тому +63

    Living in China, I've seen a lot of these types of rubbers. Really great for full power looping and serves, but playability REALLY suffers once the tack wears off. No bounce, no power, no feel, just tack lol

    • @TheBatGuy
      @TheBatGuy  Рік тому +12

      This one is different. The tack will wear off not long after initial play then speed and bounce increases. The target Pro and Target National are both high speed high spin rubbers. Really good for brushing the ball during service
