Two wonderful beauties singing and playing an old beautiful Scottish folksong, in a beautiful and fantastic Italian town, whatever can one ever wish! An extremely excellent performance!!!!! Warmest Thanks!!!!! Goran, Sweden
Everything about this is wonderful: RDC, a beautiful new singer (hope to hear more of Alana), nice guitar picking and tone, Venician room looks so classic, English - American accents...

The 4 Mary... There was Mary Beaton, and Mary Seaton, Mary Charmichael and me. Glad to see you getting into the Scottish folk tunes! Welcome! You are a joy to listen to, both of you! :) #thecorries
Mademoiselle Alana, vous êtes très belle et votre voix est douce comme le parfum des fleurs au printemps.. Miss Alana , you are really beautiful and your voice is sweet like the fragrance of flowers at springtime...
You girls are fantastic and Alana has one of the most beautiful voices I have ever heard. And Reina, yours ain't so bad either. Loved this song ever since I heard Joan Baez included it one of her early 1960s recording. I hope she tunes in once in a while for she would be proud of you girls Thanks for carrying it on.
This is a real old favourite here in UK, and particularly in Scotland - and as with so many Irish and Scottish folk songs it has a beautiful and deceptively simply tune to carry the words. This is a wonderful, authentic rendition and it was really good to hear you, Reina, singing in your upper register - so pure, so clear. The “harp” accompaniment was a stroke of genius, and it never wavered. However, saving the best to last, the way your voices melded together was a triumph and gave the song’s delivery an even greater power and depth just when it mattered. Quite, quite superb girls - a lovely bothy-style ballad sung as it should be sung. Thanks.
@@jseymourguenther6527 on my computer i heard no harp. i heard a very clean guitar and 2 voices. 2 fine voices. perhaps we dont get the same things. any how they are good enough

I have been to Venice a few times in the 1990s and early 2000s. Interesting place. But the thing that I remember most is that it cost me more to park my car in the San Marco Garage than it cost to stay in a hotel next to St. Mark's Square.
Moved by you two ladies beautiful singing voice. Long time eliminated the sadness and made it the lyrics of this folk ballad song. You are in Italy, please enjoy your journey. From Japan with love good luck.
The wide range in the types of music you perform continues to amaze me--you do it all so well & make it all seem so easy & natural. I have to say I missed Toni's talented instrumental breaks this week, but Alana's beautiful voice certainly helped make up for it.
That was so exquisite ladies. You sing beautifully together and particularly the harmonies. I knew that folk song from many years ago in South Africa and always remembered the words. It is touching and emotional. Thanks for your gorgeous rendition. Loved it. BTW have never heard it sang by anyone else other than Joan Baez.
Some 35 years since I was there in Venezia... Thank God it's only been a week since I enjoyed you Reina! Alana... Wow... You sing beautifully as well... Love the ethnic authenticity that flavored this folk song... I would have likewise loved it had you spoken a few words. You know how much Americans love your accent. Just lovely!
I recommended this but after a second hearing I have to say they're just phoning it in...I guess the long-haired girl gets it. It's about connecting spiritually whith the songs not just fall in love with the harmony...altough I do get that :-) Still a super rendition and I love the fact that it took two people to make this...Go further! There are so many stories left to tell....
The tragic lives of women once again preserved in beautiful folks songs.... the Queen's maid servant pregnant by the King (the highest Stuart) is forced to kill her illegitimate infant (cast out to sea in a tiny boat) is discovered and sentenced to the gallows only to be given reprieve by the King. She mocks him as she accepts her fate that if he'd a mind to save her life he would not have shamed her here. Tragically, she is one less Mary bedded, Mary Beaton, Mary Seton, Mary Carmichael and me. 😢 that these songs were written centuries past reminds us that we have not progressed one iota in a thousand years! Once again the rights of women to their body autonomy is stricken to the whims of a patriarchal society who feel they possess them. Whether forced to bed the king, or ostracization by society for a illegitimate child, the modern day equivalency of forced childbirth in the circumstances of rape and incest and the cutting of access to family planning services and social services means the songwriters will have something to sing about for centuries to come.
The classic version of the "Four Marys" is the one by Joan Baez, but this version must come a close second! Very well done --- and great guitar pickin'.
Smooth lovely and nice touching duet song. Great expertly performed guitar play here. Always a pleasure hearing this beautiful folk song. Have a nice time for both of you. Enjoy your life. Be happy.
Nailed it! I habe done this song and was listening to the Joan Baez version when I was a kid many years ago. Sad song.
Wonderful mix of voices, Alana and Reina is perfect😊
Beautiful, sweet, and elegant!!!
Thank you, girls!!
Is there nothing you can't do??Elle..your friends are world Class !!!

3 years later still great
Lovely performance, Alana has a beautiful voice, wonderful harmony...
Matty Groves, Fairport Convention and Who Knows Where The Time Goes, And that too was splendid.
I agree. Sandy Denny!!!

*LYRICS*
------------
Word is to the kitchen gone
And word is to the hall
And word is up to Madam, the Queen
And that's the worst of all
That Mary Hamilton's borne a babe
To the highest Stuart of all
Arise, arise Mary Hamilton
Arise and tell to me
What thou hast done with thy wee babe
I saw and heard weep by thee
I put him in a tiny boat
And cast him out to sea
That he might sink or he might swim
But he'd never come back to me
Arise, arise Mary Hamilton
Arise and come with me
There is a wedding in Glasgow town
This night we'll go and see
She put not on her robes of black
Nor her robes of brown
But she put on her robes of white
To ride into Glasgow town
And as she rode into Glasgow town
The city for to see
The bailiff's wife and the provost's wife
Cried, alack and alas for thee
Ah you need not weep for me, she cried
You need not weep for me
For had I not slain my own wee babe
This death I would not dee
Ah little did my mother think
When first she cradled me
The lands I was to travel in
And the death I was to dee
Last night I washed the Queen's feet
And put the gold in her hair
And the only reward I find for this
The gallows to be my share
Cast off, cast off my gown, she cried
But let my petticoat be
And tie a napkin 'round my face
The gallows I would not see
Then by them come the King himself
Looked up with a pitiful eye
Come down, come down Mary Hamilton
Tonight you'll dine with me
Ah hold your tongue my sovereign leige
And let your folly be
For if you'd a mind to save my life
You'd never have shamed me here
Last night there were four Marys
Tonight there'll be but three
It was Mary Beaton and Mary Seton
And Mary Carmichael and me
Thank you!
Yes thank for lyrics of the song... From France.
Reina with guitar is a shiny gold. Alana's voice (and looks) is shimmering ruby! They're both precious!
The 4 Mary...
There was Mary Beaton, and Mary Seaton, Mary Charmichael and me.

So beautiful and so mournful.
