I had to give up my parrot more than 20 years ago. They took him in without question and were very very kind. They gave me updates on how he was doing and a report from his adopters. I appreciate this rescue so much ❤
I am 43 and have a special place in my heart for animals. It breaks my heart every time I see an animal being mistreated or abandoned by their families. I have two conures that I had to buy from Petsmart because every time I went there to get food for my dog, I saw a parrot locked up in a small glass cage. She used to walk back and forth, trying to get the attention of anyone walking by. Every time I saw it, it broke my heart, and I couldn't stop thinking about her. One day, I bought her to take her out of her misery because I didn't believe in stores selling animals. I learned about the care of parrots and fell in love with them. I bought a baby parrot that was also locked up in the store, but I had to stop going there because I couldn't bear to see them suffering and not be able to save them all. I don't have enough room and money to buy them all. My point is that I think in the future, if I get a prominent place, I want to help mistreated abandoned animals by opening a shelter. I think that's my role here in this world. Time will tell.
Unfortunately buying them isn’t helping, the more profit the pet store make from people like yourself purchasing them just encourages the stores to continue breeding and you say you can’t buy them all but sadly just buying one leads to the next one being locked up in a small glass cage being mistreated. Always boycott these places and don’t buy into it, perhaps you could have rescued a bird.
I LOVE it, I think all parrots are really cute and I hope that one day they will find a nice new forever home. I wish there were more wonderful people like this. I would have loved to have had an aviary like this for all my birds so we could have adopted more. A quarantine aviary or a special area for new arrivals who might be sick and need to be cared for. My dream is to save many different animals and to build a sanctuary for them.
Love to know there are people like you. I have a special affinity for parrots. I have had an African Grey and currently have a 30 year old hahns mini macaw that was removed from a hoarding situation when she was nine and have had her ever since. There's such a wonderful bond with these intelligent creatures.
awesome job, 2 thumbs up! I've had over 40 in 40 years, currently have 11 and they are my life, some even go out to the stores with me, 1 even goes to the Dr. visit with me and just sits in my lap. the Dr. loves it.
I have a green wing macaw named Sailor, she’s been with us for years. She’s spoiled. We built her an 83 inch long and as high of an enclosure in the house with manzanita branches, hanging orbs, a swing, a tropical background behind plexiglass, toys my husband makes her using a lot of untreated 2x4’s/rope/safe kid toys. The proper kelvin amount of daylight lights, just the works. She’s not stuck in there all the time though, she gets plenty of out time. She has a decent outside totally safe and secure enclosure for the warm enough months of the year so she can take in the natural sunlight and process that vitamin K. It’s made of powder coated dog kennel panels up top where she hangs out and pvc covered wood with tin panels attached to skirt it in at the bottom and raise the kennel panels high enough. Concrete paver bottom to keep anything that digs out. Branches hanging everywhere and a birdy butler water bottle for drinks, a mounted food dish on the side. There is no door on the outside to stop anyone breaking in, and it can only be accessed from a side door inside the house. She’s safe and comfy. She eats parrot safe food that we eat and a lot of tree nuts. I pop her some popcorn made in a little ethically sourced palm oil on the stove. She only eats roudybush pellets though, won’t eat any of the others so we have to order them in. She gets food out of my garden as well. I grew strawberries and raspberries just for her. Peppers, greens, etc. It’s going to be a really hard thing at the end of our lives to find her a home where she could live like she’s used to living here. I don’t look forward to this process but I know it will be necessary so that she doesn’t end up having to go to a rescue that are already overwhelmed enough in numbers. I love that there are people like you in the world though. You do a really good thing. Thank you.
Keep up the great work, but parrots should never be pets there far too intelligent and incredibly sociable, locked up in a cage is basically abuse for these guys, poor souls 😢
good thing they're more like family members than pets then. Mike and his team take excellent care of their birds and would never adopt a bird out to someone who wouldn't be able to take perfect care of it.
My Amazon's never get locked in a cage. EVER. They have a room of there own. When they hear me come down the steps they let me know that it's play time. So I bring them to our kitchen and feed them. We hand out for a few hours and they let me know when it's time to go perch on top of their cage
