    I loved this interview. Kate is such a wealth of knowledge. I took her sock knitting class, how to make them fit, and bought two of her books. I have been an avid sock knitter for years and she really helped me fine tune them to fit not only myself but for the many socks I gift. I also purchased some video tutorials on fixing mistakes which is golden. Thank you, Irina for this fabulous interview. So much information.

    Thank you for this really interesting and inspiring chat with Kate Atherley! This is the year I decided to really go deep into knitting socks and it seemed a coincidence that this episode came up! And Kate brought up a really important point - that there should be designers that state that a certain pattern has been designed for a certain type of body, and that there should be designers that maybe have a large number of patterns dedicated to bodies that are larger or smaller than the average. I know that certain things do not look good on me, but so many people knit the popular designs without a thought to whether it would suit them or not. Yay for Kate! and thank you for this episode!

    I've had knitters say to me 'why would you knit socks when you can buy them?'. My feet are size 10 women's with high arches. My custom made knit socks fit perfectly and they keep my feet warm + dry. Will never go back to store bought socks in the fall and winter.
    My grandmother taught me how crochet with the knife hold. During lunch hour in grade 5, a teacher taught the girls how to crochet. She forced me to crochet with pencil grip only!
    Great interview.

    Kate is so knowledgeable, her enthusiasm is contagious! Since I love math, I can make adjustments to fit. I always have a large 3-5 subject spiral notebook full of … math-y things… toe dec rounds to various heel turns to raglan decrease placement… and on & on. I could (and have!) play all day & be happy! (Laundry, cleaning, dishes…nah…not that fun😂)
    Thanks for an enjoyable time!

    Loved this interview with Kate. I have her book, Beyond Knit and Purl, very informative. Mine is full of page markers and highlighted segments. She’s so enthusiastic and has inspired me to take a deeper dive into sock knitting. I also think she made an important point about body shape and size and choosing patterns that compliment your own particular silhouette. I do a combination knit for K1P1 ribbing and I’m a thrower. It has improved the look of my rib a lot. Thanks for another great podcast Irina.

    What a lovely interview !!! I love the way Kate Atherley talks about size inclusivity and specific patterns for specific body shapes. It is so so refreshing. For example, not all bigger people are also taller, My friend Sophie who is 3XL is very short, so I help her modify the fit. A lot of patterns do not change neck ratio for bigger sizes thus the neck opening is much too wide. Irina, are you wearing a hand knitted sweater ? Which one ?

    • @Fiberchats
      @Fiberchats  8 місяців тому

      That’s very true, we all have individual needs for the best fit. I often have to make adjustments for myself. ( my sweater in this episode is not handmade)

    How lovely to watch this episode. I bought Kate’s book over a year ago after seeing her on Fruity Knitting. I’ve read and studied it and as I’m watching this, I’m working on my second pair of Harcourt socks. I finally feel I can knit socks well!

    LOVED this so much. I’m working my way through your channel and this last episode was so terrific. Kate’s enthusiasm and expertise were a joy to listen to. I’m in Northern CA just south of San Francisco in a small beach town. If you ever want a Northern CA yarn tour, I would be so happy to host you and be your driver. You’re a treasure to the fiber community. Cheers - Trish aka @carpeyarn
