    Thank you, I have replaced one regulator so far and now my passenger is failing. I've used duct tape once when it happened but this suction cup is a great idea! And it also looks better than a wedge imo because I will be using it for a while :p

    I have a 20 year old Jeep Grand Cherokee and have now had a window regulator fail for the 3rd time. Don't really want to pay to fix it again. Luckily this time it's one of the back seat windows so if this works it's not gonna be a temporary fix, it's gonna be permanent....as in I plan to use it for as long as I own the car.

    Great idea! I dont have a BMW but I have a 2015 Camaro and my passenger side window wont go up or down but the motor makes the noise like it wants to go up and down which tells me the motor is fine, im thinking it just went off track but every couple of days the window comes down a few inches. This suction cup idea should hold it up until im able to take it to the dealership and let them charge me 500 dollars just to put the window back on track lol

    • @BIMMERZEITT
      @BIMMERZEITT 4 роки тому +1

      Walter La Rue it depends on how it failed and what model BMW. Some older cars are a metal gear hinge and others are a cable system. Typically you can lift the window up out of the door manually while someone lowers the window up at the same time. It depends though, a lot of variables involved!

    • @BIMMERZEITT

      convertible boy I think this was a small one but either size will work! Just wet the rubber pad and press down on the window tight. Maybe the big one will hold better, more surface area.

    Rear driver window replaced under warranty two times. Window was making a scratching crackling noise. They said the noise is the window regulator going out and they replaced it twice on the same window. Now it making that noise again on the same window. I'm afraid the window will stop working as the worst time. It always starts making noise every 15 thousand miles and warranty is up. Looks like I'll be footing the bill this time. Does anybody know what that noise is. Should I ignore it or should I just get it replaced before the window does not work anymore. Never had one fail or make noise on a Toyota or Mazda but these Germans must use inferior parts. Not sure what to think.

    • @BIMMERZEITT
      @BIMMERZEITT 5 років тому

      Chris Montes it’s a very common failure. Are you using a genuine BMW regulator or after market? The Chinese/aftermarket part will fail faster than the German made part, especially if you use that window a lot

  • @Enthusiast_Plus

    @bimmerzeit Any quick ideas on how to retrieve a window that is all the way down and now won't come back up? I am away vacation a few hundred miles from home and would just like to get the window back up and then fix it when I return home.

    • @BIMMERZEITT
      @BIMMERZEITT 7 років тому

      If you can get a grip on it with your fingers (not any tools!) and pull it up while pushing the up window button it may be able to come back up into position. It is possible the regulator broke in a way that is blocking the window from coming back up into place though so be careful. If you have to remove the door panel to get the window back up just remember these cars have side airbags in the door.

    • @Enthusiast_Plus
      @Enthusiast_Plus 7 років тому +1

      BIMMER ZEIT don't think there is a way for me to get a grip on it without using tools. I'm fairly far from an auto shop so I'll just have to cover it with cardboard and get it back home

    Hello, my passenger side window stopped working properly. If it goes too far down into the door, it won't go back up by it self. I have to grab the glass a bit and pull it up just enough to use the remote to bring it all the way up. It stays up without it falling back down. Im not sure if it is a entire window regulator issue or maybe just the clips on the track of the window regulator is worn out and need to be replaced. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

    • @BIMMERZEITT
      @BIMMERZEITT 7 років тому +1

      Unfortunately 99% of the time it is the window regulator. The regulators are very common failure points on pretty much every BMW. I have tried using cheap aftermarket regulators for under $100 and they fail within several months requiring the job to be done a second time! So, use a factory BMW regulator when you do the repair if you want it to last. I believe the last time I bought one for our X5 it was about $200. Expensive I know!

    • @BIMMERZEITT
      @BIMMERZEITT 5 років тому +5

      Pila D that could work if a last resort! However the wedge could deform or damage the weather stripping against the window so the suction cup is still a better method

    I've had my 2007 335i for just 4.5 years. I've replaced the right rear regulator twice already and the left rear once, and now they're both broken again...within 2 weeks of each other, and while I'm not even driving the car. (Also, I could tell they'd been replaced who knows how many times before I bought it when I fixed it the first time). I think I may apply this fix and call it done. It's stupid how bad the regulators are.
    What's more, they break on their own. Even when you don't use the windows. I've been standing beside the parked car, turned off, keys out, and watched it lower one of the rear windows on its own...and it broke very shortly after that. It almost seems like they programmed the car to break these. I hardly ever put the rear windows down because of the issue... and the last right rear probably was actuated a total of 10 times over 1.5 years before it broke.

      dkYEUNG13 apply it to the window harder with a little moisture. It will hold a few days before losing strength and falling when you hit a hard bump. Just re-apply. It’s intended for short term use until you have a free day to fix your regulator.
