The fact that BWS wrote, drew, inked, lettered and colored is mind blowing to me. Such a singular vision of a masterpiece in comic book history.
I wish I remember the name and brand of the pen nib now, but when I was working at Valiant, Barry found out that one of his favorite nibs was being discontinued, so they sent out every intern to buy as many of them as they could find in NYC - this was years before ordering stuff over the internet was common.
Haven't even watched this yet and I already gave it a thumbs up.
You only get to reveal Wolverine's origin once. (We'll, okay, technically twice.) Nailed it in one.
For some years, I've been wondering why DC never released a 'V for Vendetta Noir'. I'm okay with the color the regular edition has, but it used to be published in black & white in Warrior. A couple of months a ago, I saw some high quality scans of original pages from V for Vendetta, which were awesome. I would buy an Artist Edition or Noir edition of V for Vendetta in a heartbeat. Seems to be kind of in the same ballpark: If they don't make one, why not make one yourself?
Love this edition. The best modern edition of this story. Color can be better, more near to the original idea of Barry, but is really great and the best so far of all the reprints. Regarding reprints color, Jose Villarrubia has remastered the origial colors for the new Berni Wrightson's Swamp Thing Absolute and is a teaching class of how to do reprints of "old" material. Really, guys, you need to put your hands on it. Its beautiful done.
this is reprint color but it looks A LOT more faithful to the original than most are. like i think they meticulously recreated what barry did because his coloring on those issues was immaculate.
It's the color from the masterworks reprint, but with a more thoughtful paper. The Masterworks color are the best of any of the reprints by a large margin, and I don't understand why the current tpb doesn't use that, since clearly they still have acess.
@@InfantOfAtocha is masterwork the best for every book? Lemme look at mine cause i have silver surfer but i didnt pay attention to the colors. I also have kree skrull war, not masterworks, reprint colors.
Probably too late since the Sal Buscema Artist Edition is already recorded, but as someone not in the publishing world, a walkthrough of how to make a book like that would be a godsend. Once we have high resolution images, how do we lay them out, what programs to use? How do you find good bookbinders? What stock paper should we use?
Yes, theres not enough information about practical independent manufacturing.
I have a bit of experience with a print shops, and a good one could absolutely make a nice, hardcover book. I don't know if they'd be too concerned with copyrights, but they might if you intend to resell the books. But a small limited run fan-assembled book of art with no UPC or cover price would probably be fine with most of them.
I kinda always watch this videos alone and drawing and at min 1:05 aprox I STARTED FREAKING OUT cuz of the background noises JIM! ... I regretted all my sins at once m8
How to make a self-assembled book? Amazon? Kinkos? Or do you need to find a way to subvert copyrights? I've worked with an independent printer to make a catalog I designed. I was a stickler about binding, page weight, color, etc. But it was pricey. I can imagine they'd print practically anything you want. And if you're not making profit from someone else's work, what's the harm?
Thank you so much! I will study this lather!
Sam Keith Draws My Favorite Wolverine Claws , But Barry Windsor Smith's Version Might Be The Best .
TPB of this edition is coming out in late March 2023. If you missed the hardcover, you have another chance.
Wow this is dope 👍 ordered me a copy
Weapon X is HIGH up on the list of books I have to re-read every year, sometimes multiple times! That's really saying something considering my "To Read" list is LITERALLY thousands Long! (I may never be finished realistically lol) A masterpiece imho!
GAS seeing this made my whole morning
I was just talking to a friend, pining for an X-Men #205 artist edition. I’d loooove that.
My collected Akira just arrived and 8 Ball collected is on the way. Now I gotta do it again...
Do you think BWS's cover for Marvel Comics Presents #75 was hinting at the influence of Japanese culture on Logan, as that pose seems indicative of the art of Kinbaku or Shabari rope bondage?
And is the colourist of that page of Uncanny X-Men #205 from the group 'Just Stop Oil'?
I hope soneone does this with BWS's Conan. I did a custom bind a few years collecting all the BWS issues from Conan Saga, the b/w magazine size reprint of Conan the Barbarian that Marvel started in the late 80s.
oh my word
As good as it gets
That recolored 205 is truly an eye sore.
Yesss, love when you guys do BWS.
