- On December 6, 1917, the French cargo ship SS Mont-Blanc collided with the Norwegian SS Imo in Halifax. The Mont-Blanc, loaded with explosives, subsequently exploded 20 minutes later.
It released the equivalent energy of 2.9 kilotons of TNT, and was the largest man-made explosion at the time. ~1800 people died, and ~9000 more were injured.

"This place ain't about to blow, it already did!"
Well, that's one hell of a light show🥲
Why did this make me laugh! 😂
The boat said "I wanna be the sun today!"
Ah yes the Halifax explosion the main reason why playing chicken in the harbour is a bad idea. Also this vid reminded me of the guy who stayed back to stop a train before the explosion. Great video btw.
Canadas words right after “ahhh shit”
I have a book on this
Could you do one on 1812 when Canadian burned the whitehouse hehe
That blasted my ears. You should have a headphone warning on the video. Other than that, I was pretty good
There was a warning at the start or a heads up.
Yay Canadian history thanks so much

Ship has skill issue
Mind blown
Did that cause an international incident? Because I can see this causing an international incident between France and Norway.
I don’t believe so?
Several members of the crew were prosecuted (namely the French ones, because “they should’ve been careful carrying a load like that!” even though the _Imo_ was in the wrong spot), but I can’t find anything between France and Norway. It might’ve just been that France was too busy getting beat up by the Germans to care all that much, but idrk.
If there was tension between them, it was at the very least nowhere near as much as France and NZ after the Rainbow Warrior incident.
@MAVxWORLD Ah, was just wondering. With so many people dying in the incident, thought something might have came up.
It’s a fair assumption!
