I finally got a Tikka T1X and I transformed it a little: installed the following items: a recoil pad, cheek riser, grip angle, and a forend slide-on grip plus I reduced the trigger down to 1.5 pounds; t 5:35 he 1.5-pound trigger is excellent, and all the accessories I put on the T1X placed into the plus column.
Got my T1x for a woods/field rifle. Updated the trigger with a Yo-Dave (down to a nice 2lb 6oz pull), then a KRG Bravo stock (I didn't find the factory stock bad at all for the POU, but wanted a stiffer stock with adjustable cheek rest and LOP, that was still light enough). Athlon Midas TAC 6-24x50 for optics on a 20MOA base. Still haven't found the ammo it likes over 75 yards, but SK Standard is best so far. TAC22 is great under that 75. Won't keep up with my B14r or CZ455 w/IBI, but it is a fun plinkster!
You`re right about the ammo, every gun needs to be tested. I have several CZ457`s, every one of them loves NormaTac22 ammo. I`ve tried many times to shoot Eley ammo, all different levels of it, my CZ457`s hate Eley ammo. And actually, the Eley MATCH black box (same stuff you shot here in your video) was the worst. When i jump over to the SK MATCH in any of my CZ457`s, TACK DRIVER. Every CZ457 i own loves SK MATCH, go figure, lol. I also shoot NormaTac22 in my Ruger Precision Rimfire. It`ll clover leaf all day long. It likes Norma Tac22 ammo. Every gun is different.
Super interesting. What types of 457s do you have?? I got a MTR barreled action in a MDT XRS and it loves the Eley match and Eley Team. Both shoot clovers at 50 all day long. It also hates SK match lol...
Another example of the importance of ammo in 22LR. Life's too short to shoot cheap ammo. I need to get some Eley Match/Tenex once I go through my stash of SK/Lapua. Keep up the good work Chris.
The Tikka T1x is a very good choice 👌 I'm shooting one also, have it in KRG Bravo stock and Sterk bolt handle. I have changed trigger spring, and this thing is laser accurate with Lapua, SK, Eley Team, and Match. It doesn't like RWS and as proven already Norma 😒. My Tikka has about 7k rounds through the barrel and is still super accurate. 👌 Good luck with it. I can't wait for more videos. Keep up the good work. Regards from Ireland 🇮🇪.
my son's tikka doesn't like Norma either. Center X shoots the best out of his gun get the trigger spring from tikka makes a hell of a difference can't wait to see what you do with the rifle
My CZ457 American doesn't do well with the NormaTAC22. The 457 Varmint shoots moa groups with the same ammo. I chalk it up to the Varmint barrel, but you know how finicky these rimfire rifles can be. Thanks for the video!
Quite opposite with all my CZ457`s. Mine all shoot extremely well with Norma Tac. My CZ457 Varmint is actually the most accurate CZ457 i own, using Norma Tac22.
@@midwest_long_range Just like with any other ammo out there. There are good lots, and bad lots. You might not have gotten a decent lot. Same can be said about CCI SV.
I have a model 69a winchester. It's a very old gun. Iron sites, Twenty five yards I can put fifteen rounds in a dime hole one hole group. It's just amazing all these new guns strive for that with scopes. I don't even have that good of eyes I wear readers. Funny thing is, all these fancy, high expensive guns. Can they really keep up with the guns from 60 years ago? Well I say to each there own. Heck the outside of the barrel is Pitted. And with iron sights, it shoots just as good as those more expensive guns with scopes. Maybe some of you guys who are having issues, finding something that's accurate. Go to a gun show and buy one of these old guns. You can have it drilled for scope mounts. I have to put it edit right here. I almost forgot i'm using remington golden bullets. Of course, this is all my dad stuff The bullets are at least twenty five years old. I'm just glad my dad used to hold back then. And he hoarded the good stuff.
The factory trigger is adjustable to an extent. Won’t be a time you but it’ll be much better with a couple turns of an Allen wrench. Mine does well with cci std vel and sk standard
Personally as a viewer, I prefer seeing the target impacts with a down range camera over a trigger cam but as a shooter, the trigger cam has the bonus of always seeing the reticle placement (that and the ease of use at an active gun range). I’ve been shooting the Norma Tac 22 ( red box) through a couple Anschutz’s and it actually preforms quite well out of the 1710 but not so much out of the 1416. When it comes to Eley Match, the results are somewhat reversed. There sure wasn’t any grey area of what ammunition performed best out of your Tikka😊
Looking forward to the T1x project. I've got a T1x in an Oryx stock, reduced power trigger spring, an Atlas bipod and Arken Sh2 gen 2. It loves Norma Tac 22 out to 100 yards, which is fortunate since it's the only halfway decent ammo I can reliably get. It *really* loves SK ammo tho. My Bergara B14r also shoots Norma Tac well - as well as the Tikka. I got lucky that the Norma does well in both guns out to 100. Enjoy it!
tried norma tac22, and could barely hit the broadside of a barn. I tried some Fed Hunter Match, that i use in my CZ 452, and was almost stacking shots on the little splash target cover-up dots. just my personal experience with the Norma Tac-22.
Excellent video. Congratulations. One question, what model of camera do you use to record the shots, the one that is placed on the telescopic sight? I would like to know where you bought it. Thank you.
I have the same problem with the Norma Tact for anything longer than 25 yards. I want to like it, but it's horrible at 100 yards. I've tried it in a tricked out 10/22 and RPR. Both with upgraded barrels.
Every gun is different. Both my T1x in an Oryx stock and my Bergara B14r in its original stock love Norma Tac out to 100 yards. After that it completely falls apart. They both shoot SK, Eley and Lapua a bit better at 100 but not a lot better. At 50 it's almost a wash. 🤷🏻♂️
I'm a big fan of the Tikka T1X for an affordable platform to start out with. My build has resulted in a MDT XRS chassis with Enclosed Forend. EGW 20MOA Rail with MDT Rings and a Vortex Strike Eagle Scope. Also Added the MDT GRND POD Bipod to the mix. As you pointed out, the trigger is stiff out of the box and most owners lighten it the moment they unbox it or even change out the triffer spring. As for ammo, It is great with the CCI SV out to 50 for practice and loves the SK Rifle Match or Long Range Match for consistent shooting. Can't wait to see what's in store for your Tikka. Great Vid!
My CZ shoots the Norma tac very well. I was impressed with the Tika after you switched ammo. Honestly, i wasn't really impressed with the video quality from the Trigger Cam. Thanks for the great video.
BTW, where are you all finding such consistent shooting Eley ammo? I live in the UK and I hear a number of people have stopped shooting with Eley because they can't find a decent batch.
@@midwest_long_range Shooters I know here are speculating that Eley is shipping their best stuff to the US where the market is bigger, leaving us poor saps in the UK with the junk. Thanks for watching! Much appreciated
The way that eley grouped it’s as though the ginger ninja shed squatter did some lot testing before he left it behind.
You would think so lol
Excited to see what route you go with it! I'm getting the T1X soon and can't wait.
Excellent demonstration how testing ammo really helps getting on target, and a good friend to leave some to test, great video I like those Tikkas
