Ruff discussed the promotion of Seth Appert from Amerks head coach to assistant coach with the Sabres and how Appert has developed coaching relationships with the players. He also talked about how the power play has evolved around the NHL this year, and the changes the Sabres will make to adjust to this new style of play.

    Love Lindy! So happy he’s back! There’s not one player on this squad from when he left. Fresh!

      @@KoupeDeVille716 These players are who they are...if they are not physical I don't see them changing. I'd like to see them trade for Josh Manson as a top 4 RHD if Colorado is in cap trouble, he also brings experience and leadership. Get Olivier from the Blue Jackets. That's adding physicality on the backend and to the forwards.

      @@LenInTheBuff If Owen Power doesn't show up to training camp as a much stronger, more aggressive presence, they should be trading him before his value drops any further. I'm sure they told him he needs to come back that way. We'll soon find out if he can do that. Last year was a year of zero growth.

    Appert is a people person, and knows all the young players well. He helps offset Lindy's prickliness that will be necessary from time to time with the 20-something millionaires who haven't achieved anything. At the same time, Seth needed to be moved out of Roch. They need someone who emphasizes team defense and grit more, and installs Lindy's system.
    I think this is a smart move.

      Addition Seth appert is a awesome combination of Synergy Youth hockey " he has way to get his message across and get Young Buffalo Sabres he was excellent interin coach and he will be work in Collbration with one of the Best coaches of all time Lindy Ruff there no better situations for Seth Appert and Lindy Ruff Mentour Coach Lindy Ruff this Collbration will work it will take Lindy Ruff Idealogy of how he wants the Defense to Let's put it put Toughen up and not chase puck and knock some fowards on there tails that was the 90 Buffalo Sabres it can be incorporated if the young Buffalo Sabres buy into Lindy Ruffs Defensive System

      @WideTier 15 днів тому +2

      What about grit and toughness on the FIRST two lines? What is Lindy supposed to do, double shift the 3rd & 4th lines when toughness is needed? Something seriously needs to change with the overall attitude and work ethic from player one to player 20. Lindy can handle it, I just hope the players can.

      @@WideTier There's enough size on first 2 lines and they'll be expected to be more accountable under Lindy (e.g. backchecking).Remember they have to answer to Lindy now, the guy was nails when he played not soft Donny.

    I think we are on the verge of greatness! The eastern conference is weakening. Several teams will soon be going into rebuilds and we are only getting started. We are going to get PRIME Lindy Ruff. He has evolved as a coach and wanted to come back for years. We are going to get his very best. He just listed out multiple things I was whining about all of last year. Not attacking the slot, defending in front of our net, backchecking, etc. With adjustments we will become dominant. The wait with this young team will be worth it. I want a team that will dominate for years and not just be a quick flash in the pan.

  • @5ch3nk

    Appert is literally just Granato in everything he coaches. The Amerks powerplay and playoff performance were abysmal. This team is just spinning the wheels and we better have a couple good seasons under Ruff because that's going to be our only shot at winning before Seth takes over. These promotions (not hires) make the organization look like a joke and like Ruff had little to no say in selecting his own coaching staff.

    • @markroze3641
      @markroze3641 15 днів тому +1

      Yep, I hate this stupid “succession plan” thinking. Worry about winning now FFS! Who the heck needs a succession plan in the NHL? Good veteran head coaches are always available and there’s never a shortage of quality inexperienced candidates. Appert wasn’t even on any team’s radar for head coaching interviews. There’s much better “up and coming” coaching candidates out there.
      Well, take solace in this - if Lindy doesn’t work out, Kevyn Adams will be fired so his plan wouldn’t matter at that point. And if Lindy has success, I don’t see why he’d want to suddenly retire in 2 years. He’s never mentioned he’s even considering it.

    • @frankfarklesberry
      @frankfarklesberry 14 днів тому +1

      This is going to be a year of "Can these guys play team defense consistently?" Lindy can put one in and ferret out which players can do that. Then it's Adams' job. Right now, it's hard to tell which players are the biggest culprits. Last year's attempt by Granato at instilling a more defensive mindset was a disaster, and coaches can't survive that kind of losing. These young players haven't got the "I'm a pro now" message yet. They just want to have fun.

  • @bajjanitor

    Not sure why Ruff was brought on to explain this hiring. It should've been Adams sitting there explaining why he thinks Appert is the coach of the future for this team and why he thinks sacrificing the chances of winning now is worth it in exchange for Appert learning on the job. Silly to have Ruff sit there and not have any better justification to hire him as the powerplay/forward coach than him having worked with some of the players in the past.
    Why they decided to cut down on 1 bench coach would've been interesting to hear as well, is it the cost cutting measure that we all think it is or did they think it was too many chefs in the kitchen last season? Though brining in the former head coach of some players wouldn't make sense if they wanted fewer chefs in the kitchen. Well well.

  • @markroze3641
    @markroze3641 15 днів тому +1

    So stupid not to let Lindy hire his own staff. He said he wanted to put together the best assistant coaching staff in the NHL. You’re telling me he just so happened to think that the 2 coaches already under contract here were the best available candidates? Guys he didn’t even know until a few weeks ago. And that the only outside voice he wanted to add was Seth Appert (who he said he didn’t even know existed until a few weeks ago)?
    Then to add insult to injury, Appert gets to bring in an assistant coach (his video guy from Rochester), but Lindy doesn’t get to add a single coach to his staff? 🤬
    Why does Buffalo always insist on doing things “their way” (aka: much differently than the best franchises)?
    Why not allow Ruff to hire the best staff he can, to set himself up for the best possible chance at success + to win now? Who cares about a succession plan in the NHL where there’s constant head coaching turnover. Appert wasn’t even on the radar of other NHL teams. I’ve never even heard him mentioned for an NHL assistant coaching interview let alone head coaching jobs.

    I heard a lot of excuses why this team has failed over the years and I just heard some more. I wonder if someone will ever say that the many of the current players aren't good enough to win a Stanley Cup. Recycled coaches and recycled excuses don't inspire confidence for me.
