Yes I Louis Smith (LCJ Smith) was stationed there a nice place when I spent 30 months there started 1961 1st attached to 42 supply squadron and when the bay of pigs envasion I was transferred to the 42 military police squad which guarded the weapons storage and the B-52, KC-135,s F-106, etc. I also made good friends, which I still keep in contact with. Although some have passed, but some very good memories. Thanks for showing the past history Louis Smith
I arrived at Loring in 1976 at 18 years old. Basically 17+ years in the fire station. I’m still here celebrating the Air Forces 75 anniversary. They just landed a B52 at Loring after 29 years for the open house at the museum.
I was 42 security police there in 81 to 84. Worked back office doing odd jobs such as the c area fence install. Also walked flight line wing tip to wing tip all winter long
This AFB was named after Charles J. Loring. A Air Force Major who was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor in Korea after he purposely flew his crippled F-80 jet into a North Korean AAA emplacement.
Victor Craft must have been a mama's boy! God didn't forget Aroostook county, this is HIS Country! Not much up here? Are you nuts? If you're an Alpha male, there's a host of activities up here! Being from Caribou, Maine, 11 miles from Loring, if you get a dirt bike, a street bike and a snowmobile, you'll have more fun than you can imagine!! Just our snowmobile trails alone are incredible!! Loring even had a lake on base that had a motocross trail and a huge hillclimbing spot. The fishing up here is legendary, so is the hunting. Not to mention all the huge lakes up here. Not to mention the Aurora Borealis that shines bright in these parts. Anyone who hides in their home year round is missing out! Not much up here, huh? Please!! Don't believe everything you read.
Kraft was assigned to base security so that's not exactly a mamas boy job. However, if he wasn't into outdoor activities, his entertainment options would be plenty limited.
Keep in mind, I was living in a boarding house then because my apartment building had recently burned down. Also, I'm just an amateur historian that does this in my spare time. I'm not a full time UA-camr who makes a living making videos with assistants to help produce professional material.
I am glad to see you are recovering. Thanks for sharing a bit of the history of the old Air Force Base.

Too much talking head … not enough supporting period photos …
