I haven't yet - I need to clear my palate after eating - but tonight I'm a-gonna open that sample. Thank y'all. ❤🥃 1:49 What was your branch, Troy? I was in the Air Force, 1978-1982. 4:13 I like proof - and you can always temper it down if it's too hot. But if they proof it down too much before bottling, you can't fix it. 8:07 So is it K. Luke, or one word, Kluke? Looking at the label on the screen, it looks like the latter.
Yeah, in retrospect, leaving that other bottle there was a huge mistake... but live and learn. Hopefully whoever got that other bottle really enjoyed it! Thanks for the comment! 🥃
I've gotten hit with FOMO on Blanton's, which didn't live up to the hype for me. It's not bad by any means, but just *OK* whiskey doesn't justify the price (then ~$60, now it's up to ~$70). Eagle Rare to a lesser extent, it's also in the "OK" zone for me, but being as it's close to half the price of Blanton's (Then ~$35, now up to ~$40) I'm a lot more comfortable with buying it again when my current bottle runs dry. My other real FOMO buy was a Japanese Whisky, Hibiki Harmony at $100 (I actually paid $90, but I had to buy 5 other bottles of whiskey at the same time to get that discount), which my local store was going to stop carrying, and I grabbed the last bottle since I'd been curious about it for some time. I can tell that's it's a quality whisky, there's a lot of very subtle subdued flavors in there, but it's not *quite* in my wheelhouse for taste. But it's also easy to drink, I'm glad I had the experience, and I'm definitely going to keep that *very* nice bottle when it's empty, so I'm kind of wishy washy about whether it was a good buy or not.
We bought the hibiki harmony in the hand painted bottle back in 2021 i think? And still havent opened it. I think we paid around 100 bucks, but see it all over secondary now for crazy money. Might just hang on to it for trades... or maybe we will crack it open some day? Thanks for the comment! 🥃
@@TroyfromBakerDrinks If you've had Suntori Toki (~$35), Harmony is fairly similar in flavor profile, though the Toki is very thin and not nearly as complex. Both are fruity/citrusy and floral, and 'smooth'/easy sippers with very little burn.
hey love the video. have yet to try any of the JD heritage bottles. never drop in my area. that KLUKE never heard of either. hey thanks for adding to my whiskey hunting list. cheers
Hey! Great picks, especially the Seagrass. I love that stuff. Will be on the lookout for the others. I like 1783 and was unaware of the hero releases. Cheers!
You are right on the 1783, got one then got a back up (1.75L) for $35. Love the JD twice barreled rye (got 2 bottles), wish I could find a special release rye. K.Luke is great, waiting on the batch 8 release anytime now. Cheers 🥃🥃😎
@@bakerdrinks yea they should be releasing batch 8 and toasted bourbon batch 2 . I believe they are bottled and should be available online ( probably Seelbach’s and Shared Pour) anytime now.
I’ve had the Sea Grass and definitely enjoyed it, actually something I try to keep on hand. All the other bottles I’ve never had but I’m sure they are great. Troy, thank you for your service, I appreciate all the men and women that make this country what it is.
Not necessarily due to FOMO, but I bought a bottle of Driftless Glen SBBP store pick so that I could get 2 tickets for an allocation raffle. Got home and tried it, went back and bought the last 3 bottles the store had. Didn't win in the allocation raffle, but definitely won overall. I am on my last bottle and might cry when it is gone, it is a cinnamon red hot TicTac bomb. Yes, it is 1 note, but that 1 note is fire.
@TroyfromBakerDrinks I live in Wisco and DG picks are everywhere. This one was the best by far. If there is anything they produce that you would like to try, let me know.
I have 3 EW products and they're ok. The Master's Blend that I have is trash. I tried the Seagrass after a gazillion pours and didn't like it. I need to try it fresh. Nice on the JD!
that seagrass is a funky pour, and it certainly isn't going to align with everyone's palate... But if you like bright fruity - almost tropical rye's, its a banger!
Love Barrel Seagrass. I found the JD twice barrel rye for $75 on shelf and store would not sell it to me saying it wasn’t supposed to be on shelf. ABC state so no price hike just was not selling to customers I guess. I really really wish I could have gotten a Bad Axe Corbin Cask and a Bad Axe JMCB. Never had the Corbin before. Picked up a JMCB for $185 yesterday. K.Luke is one I have hunted but never found as not sold in my region of country. Definitely have bought tons of FOMO bottles only a few mistakes. Big difference is I try and get backups at same time especially if a distillery I know I like such as Midleton. If a Redbreast limited comes out I always buy 3 at start and go back for more if I can. The 2022 Yellowstone Limited Edition I bought one. Cracked it that evening and went back and bought two more the next day. Love me some backups.
I like having backups as well, but as laura points out to me all the time, we dont really need them, because we drink through them so slow... i guess. 🤷
I get it. I have to restrain myself from getting 2 all the time. Just do it for my Irish and some bourbons now. I do go back and get more to bunker for "retirement drinking" when needed@@TroyfromBakerDrinks
Although I live in another country I am about a half hour drive away from Traverse City Whiskey Company's Outpost in Ferndale Michigan. I receive an email from them stating that their barrel proof wheated bourbon is being released and you can only buy it at the distillery or outpost and there is a one bottle limit. My FOMO DNA is starting to surge. I race home from work, grab my passport, cross the border and pick up the $80 bottle. I luck out and have a border guard who let's me go through without paying the nearly 125% duty. It was my first ever wheated bourbon and it was excellent. About a month later while visiting relatives in Michigan we stopped in a grocery store similar to Wal-Mart called Meijer and there sitting on the shelf is that same $80 bottle. Not so exclusive now eh? lol. I have never been disappointed from anything from Traverse City Whiskey Co but their hyped up releases are something I slow down and think about before making a run for the border.

Only DG we have had was an old Bourbon Junkies pick, and it is nearly gone, but it taste like apple jacks cereal - in the best way!
