I’ve always wanted to break new ground with MTB and the tricks that are possible on mountain bikes. It took me a long time to learn to 360 on dirt jumps when I was 14, and even longer to learn 720’s a few years ago. But I’ve always been curious as to why no slope style or MTB rider has done a 1080, 3 full spins on a jump. Nicholi Rogatski does off axis twisters and the 1440 spin, but nobody has done a regular 1080, yet... so here’s the start to my journey on BMX at my compound, using the airbag to try my first tens. Enjoy.

It's funny because right before this video came out I was watching last year's Redbull Joyride replay and Matt was one of the commentaries. AND in that replay, Nicholi Rogatkin landed a twister.
Yeah you are right but I think Matt's going for a straight 1080 no?! The Twister could also be called a 720 frontflip:)
Earlier today I watched the 'The Evolution of the Biggest Trick in Mountain Biking' where Matt host the basic how to for the 1440, and he said three people had done the 1080 in competition. that was in like 2017.

Lol yesterday I jumped a 3 and a half foot wood pop ramp that all my friends do and it felt amazing keep pushing yourself mate

Hi Matt, loved watching you attempting the 1080 but if u get a headache get a washing line peg and put it on the “radial longitude crease” and it should get rid of the headache 🙂👍🏽 It helped me get rid of one 👍🏽

Higher roll in, eyes open, adjust for landing, you got it. You considered learning a twister as well? Judges would love a 1080 and a Twister in one run

Get some garden irrigation pipe and run a line across the top of the bag with some 180° sprayers so it stays wet while using bigger all water? I have that system on my shed here with a water return from the gutters into a water tank with a pump and I fill it it every month and it's 45°c - 47°c in summer here and my shed used to get to 68°c on the inside and the sprinklers dropped that temp down to a nice 30°c sometimes lower so I highly recommend it!

i love yore vids you and sam pilgrim are the ones that got me and my brother into mtb
As a old scooter rider when I would to 1080s I would always spin more sideways like how you do. In order to counteract that you can either spin more straight up or yank yourself back straight when you open up BUT, if you want to yank yourself back it requires you to go higher so you can spot the landing. Either way works but I found that opening up and yanking myself straighter worked best for me I could never spin straight vertically. Hopefully this helps you. -a big fan since 99k subscribers

Hi Matt, thanks for sharing your problem. You need to practise turning 1080 repeatedly without breaking a leg. Two solutions come to mind: 1. Rent a crane and a lot of bungee cords, or 2. Hire a professional big top circus trainer. Good luck. We love you. John
Matt if you see this I understand your thinking by using the bmx but you will make more progress sending the jump bike. It's everything you are used to. I'll bet you will get the same if not better results on the jump bike straight away.

Go Matt! Like the the Dyedbro on the mtb. I'm in Australia and saw the kangaroos on it. 30C is nothing, I think we had a few days last summer that the whole country here had 40C, even down south in Tassie. I like the water on the air bag. Turns it into a big slip and slide.

Try a sprinkler system on the hosepipe, might be annoying to occasionally land in something that feels like rain but you'll have a wet airbag. Alternatively wait four days in the UK and do it in the rain.

you could try run a piece of hosepipe with holes across the top edge of the airbag to keep it wet if you like.... we had similar systems on waterski ramps.... haha

Matt you need a gin wheel and rope at the top of the ramp. Hook on the bike at the bottom then pulley the bike up. So much easier than climbing up with it.

I just think there are people who dislike things enough about the video to give thumbs down.
After watching a couple of these, I get really annoyed with the intro music and in comparison to the actual video it's always too loud.
10 years ago I might have disliked only because of the music. I thought about writing a comment about how that song sucks, then realized that's a dumb Idea because nobody cares, if I like the song or not. It's important how matt jones likes it. And if People dislike Matt Jones video, then Matt Jones will find a way to cope with it.
I'm confident that the dislikes will only make him a better human. It's all not that big of a deal, you see?
