Excellent tips ! I use a yoga mat for changing into and out of wetsuit to keep feet relatively warm. Also a hooded vest allows one to use a thinner suit.
All really good tips that covers it all but wow, I'm surprised your hands don't get cold with open palms. Below 10C I use 5mm lobster gloves, I like being toasty inside. I'm kitesurfing though, maybe there's more blood going to your fingertips when Windsurfing. Another essential thing I bring is a little camping solar shower filled with hot water. When I'm back I can rinse with warm water before changing. To keep it warm I wrap it in the car windshield Sun Shield or leave it exposed behind the dash or a window if it's a sunny day, but be careful it's amazing how hot it can get sometimes. And one more thing that adds a good bit of warmth while sailing is a windbreaker since windchill is a huge factor, especially if you are sailing in strong winds, or your wetsuit is not totally windproof. I have a Mystic Wind Barrier and it really extends my wetsuit temperature range by about 5 degrees.
some tips from sweden, a merino wool baselayer under the wetsuit helps a lot. also a neoprene hoodie (the kind you can surf with, mine is from ion and has a hole for the harness hook) is excellent. I manage november/december in sweden perfectly with 3/2 wetsuit, merino baselayer, boots&gloves, impact vest, hoodie & beanie!
Great tips! Thanks for sharing. Recently, I was advise by windsurfers from Quebec to bring a cooler filled with warm water to warm up hands when coming to shore especially in the first 30-45 min of sailing. During that time, circulation tends to keep the core warm and leave extremities without much blood flow. After a couple of dips in warm water, hands are warmed up, blood flow is restored, and the open palm mitts can do their work as intended. This is particularly helpful if you end up falling in barely above freezing water. Your hands will thank you!
That's a good tip, as long as the water isn't too hot then it would help. My mum always warned me about chill Blane's when I was young but have never had them, and never heard of anyone else getting them....
I think it is easier to get used to your feet being cold haha I mean you will always have less feeling when sailing with boots. But if you find the perfect thin, warm boots then that is going to help. So just try a few different boots.
I find that 5 mm O'Neill full mittens are the warmest and ok for grip when temperatures 7 to 10 Celsius. When temperature 4 to 6 Celsius i wear 7mm ripcurl full mittens. Ok there is less grip but ok for basic windsurfing, maybe not ok for advanced stuff like forward loops etc but i can't do those anyway. I find Xcel 8 mm wetsuit boots keep feet toasty warm for hours when water is 7 Celsius but it does require big footstraps.

Thanks for the tips! I think the phone is a great idea and am wondering where you keep it on your body while you are sailing? Can you dial it at sea through the bag? a link or name of the bag would be great! Thanks again and keep them coming!
Hey Marija, So most aqua-packs have a lanyard, and i just hang it on my neck and put it in my wetsuit. With the last few aqua-packs I had my phone was fully operational in touchscreen mode. I can't remember the brand of the top of my head right now, but I will check tomorrow and come back to you :)
@@RYTISJAS Thanks Rytis, i started looking on amazon and didn't realize how many options there were all for a good price! this could be worth its weight in gold when the temps drop, i will buy this week thanks!
Hi Rytis, I'm thinking about buying the new ION 2021 seek AMP or Core for my colder spring and later autumn sessions. As the AMP is getting in the pricerange of the Fluid taped suits of other brands: How has the ION GBS seams been treating you? Is it watertight, or is some cold water slipping in trough the seams?
Hi, warmth and flexibility wise I love ION - much better than Hurley or XCEL (the only two other brands I tried recently). However, after a year of usage the seems start leaking on the ION and after 2-3 years the wetsuit kind of breaks apart in my experience. I am not sponsored by them so I can say it freely haha.
Great to see people out there in all weather ! Not to many of us around! Way to go!
Thanks for the tips. From my personal experience, the most effective way to keep warm is going to southern Europe from October on.
Haha - that is definitely true. My dad said the same tbh
@@RYTISJAS Wise man!

Isn't it a bit dangerous somehow to put really cold hands into warm water? I don't know if this is a rumor or where I read it to be honest.....

Thats cold!! Are you going to Tenerife again for training?
Yes, that is the plan
Nice videos and tips..... How do get used to sail with shoes(boots)? I find it very difficult to 'feel' the board.... Any advice? Thanks

Those must keep you super warm!
I don't think I would be able to go with something so thick
