    I just installed a FI-Tech go street kit on 78 corvette it's crazy how similar the setup to start is. Was straight forward install and vette is running flawlessly

    so that lean condition gets caused by a few possibilities.. 1. exhaust leak (probably not it, since it was fine, then suddenly climbed and the car didn't move any.. unless you blew out a gasket. 2. injector died or came unplugged (seems like a somewhat common issue with an easy fix of zip tying the connector on 3. o2 sensor failure or the controller failed (apparently there were a batch of bad ones at some point and this was somewhat common. requires sending the unit to holley for repair).. i already watched your other video, so i know it ended up being the controller. did you do a video following up with what ever happened with it?

    I have been running mine for a year or so now. I've already had to replace the tps due to it randomly jumping up 20% causing it to have issues with idle. I've replaced the holley in tank unit with a gm assembly from a 98 Silverado, has a built in sump. I had extremely lean afr due to lack of fuel. Kit definitely needed to have a fuel pressure sensor. I now have a new coolant sensor on the way because despite the 195° tstat the screen shows 174. Now these were only minor inconveniences, not real problems. Tuning was a pain when the sensors were saying the wrong things. I used acdelco replacement parts and not the holley sensors, with no issues.

    How did things turn out with the sniper? Mine has worked flawlessly for about 3 years. I did have a hiccup when I had a header flange gasket leak (at the head) but I reset my tune and tightened the bolts and I was good to go. It sucks when the software tries to learn with an exhaust leak! I temporarily had to shut off closed loop and then I was good. Luckily it was in a daily driver with plenty of self-learning and my closed loop compensation would rarely hit 1%.. it just bounced between 0% and -0%.
    Thanks for the informative videos. It greatly simplified things for me when tuning my Gen IV Tahoe.

    I’m glad I haven’t had that issue with mine, it’s just odd that it seemed to be working good, and then it just went lean, I have had o2 sensor issues due to moisture and sensor location, but it never did anything like that, it did say50% compensation which makes me think it’s might be actually lean, even though I didn’t think it would run that lean, unless it’s has a divided intake manifold and has a bad injector

      It's an issue with the wideband controller in the sniper itself, Holley knows it is an issue and they have a way to repair it but you have to send it in.

    I have a Holley Sniper on an old 396. I can run it, but definitely not tune it. What was the problem Holley said the unit had? Recall?

  • @cwathne

    The sniper is a good idea, but lacks quality. Yes I did run it until my ECU died.
    I think the terminator x stealth tbi is the way to go, a little more $. But it has ecu seperate from the tb. Think that design is far superior from a quality stand point.

    I was thinking about installing a EFI on my 496 big block chevy, but I changed my mind. Tuning a carburetor is easy 😌

      LOL< to each his/her own, but this video shows why you should read the directions. My Custom shop we literally install these weekly and IF you set it and adjust as needed, I already saw around the 4 minute mark params way off, you will not have issues. Over a 1,000 units installed and we had one bad unit out of the box. Maybe 4 O2 sensors go bad and 3 was because the owner had the wrong spark plugs, needed a higher temp for better burn. Carbs allow for more mistakes IE: run rich and let it go.

    Please don’t give up on this! I installed a sniper on a project car about 2 years ago; it only runs well enough to pull it in and about of the driveway. The FB group seems to be populated by people that have all had good luck with the system and seem to think all problems are due to install error (AKA no help at all.) I bought the system because it advertised that there’s no need for tuning ( I’m border line computer illiterate.) Ive only just now started learning EFI tuning, and purchased the can/usb cable (I suspect “efi” or TPS issues.) I need all the how-to help I can get!!

      I’m looking for the answer too. I put a Sniper on an old 396. It runs, but won’t tune.

      @@michaelfleck5288 Well, I can tell you this. I just replaced my old hedders, thinking they were the problem (or so Holley said) $700 later, the problem still exists. More and more I am starting to suspect the sniper. I havent updated the firmware - going to do that. I'll let you know. But here is the weird part, when I disconnect the power to the sniper, the first start runs perfect. AFR is exactly where it is supposed to be....then it goes haywire.

      There is a known issue with some snipers having a bad wideband controller, contact Holley, they are aware of it

    • @SalvatoreSausage
      @SalvatoreSausage 3 роки тому

      @@GoatRopeGarage How do you prove thats what it is? I talked with them this morning, and they are not keen on admitting that.

    • @GoatRopeGarage
      @GoatRopeGarage  3 роки тому

      Usually it will read fine for a minute it so then it goes full lean, sensors won't fix it, it's an issue with the controller at that point and the sniper will need to be sent in.

  • @guillermopena2
    @guillermopena2 4 роки тому +1

    If it was really running that lean probably it would have stalled..... my guess is your o2 is acting up or the sniper is some how displaying the wrong reading. Go into basic fuel and check your commanded AFRs. I don't suspect they are wrong. Never know with the touch screen, or fat fingers...lol. BTW not sure if you knew.... but online manual has a lot more instructions and pages then the paper copy provided with the unit. Not sure why they do that, maybe to save trees.

    • @GoatRopeGarage

      It's a known issue with some snipers, the wideband controller in the unit itself goes bad

    • @Sjmartin666

      I just recently had an o2 go bad on a 6 month old terminator..a little research shows they are known to go bad..Also to troubleshoot a false reading wouldn’t you be able to look at the CL comp % to see if it’s dumping fuel to reach the commanded afr?

    Does the Terminator X have known issues too? I'm about to pull the trigger on the Terminator X Stealth 4150 kit but the price scares me if it's going to fail.

    So I put one on my new.motor, and injector shorted out and hydro locked my motor. Got another one and could not get it to run. Finally ran drove it 5 miles, ecu crashed. 2,000 dollars and no run. Put a 650 cfm carb on, ran like a champ. Will not use a throttle body injection ever again... piece of shit
