Regarding the Eldoret blue … I found this … ELDORET BLUE INEOS ambassador Eliud Kipchoge - the first person to run a marathon in under two hours - hails from the Kenyan town of Eldoret, which is famed for its blue skies. 🙂
i went to the event as well , i liked the white more in person . one of the selling points for me ( if they stick to it) is parts manuals and the availability to order my own parts .
I was at this event and had some fun and enjoyed it very much. The Grenadier drives off-road very confidently. It’s a solidly built and good looking vehicle. Overall it is not very roomy in the inside especially the second row even comparing to my FJ. Second row seat is very upright and very little room for the feet, it feels and looks uncomfortable for the passengers, especially long rides.
These rigs looks sweet. Gives that old school look of the defender but with all the tech of a new off roader. Definitely can see you in one of these doc 👌🏽
Cancelled mine after waiting a year and looking at some of the owner reviews, fuel economy is dreadful apparently if its what you want best of luck to you I did go out in a new defender this week and it was head and shoulders more refined in my humble
My wife actually drives one of the newer defenders and has had it about three years now, definitely a comfortable ride… we’ll see how the Grenadier does!
How reliable is a turbo BMW engine? Can that last for the long haul going slow in hot climates? eg Arizona desert, crawling up rocky trails in blazing heat?
@@DocWrangler just saw claimed 14mpg on Super combined. Ooof…is there an SUV that is worse than that? I’m getting 18mpg in my Wrangler, and that is using regular gas.
How did you find the rear seats to be? Looking at the specs the maximum rear legroom is 30.5” . That is smaller than a midsize truck (I.e. Colorado has 35.8” of rear legroom)
@@DocWrangler I do wonder how some manufacturers are measuring legroom. I’ve sat in the back of a ZR2 Colorado behind my driving position and it was tight behind the seat, but on the JL I have a few inches of space even though on paper it has a tenth of an inch less 🤷
Pronunciation as follows: The “in” is pronounced as it’s spelling suggests. “In”, not “eye’n”. Add “eos” to “in”and there you go. I gather the North American market is limited to petrol only power plant, and I’ve also heard that you’re possibly limited to the Trialmaster (not Trailmaster) and Fieldmaster models only, but that might’ve changed by now. Something to do with US Type Approval when adding optional accessories during production, as opposed to add on accessories which are fitted post manufacture. Hopefully my 2 seater Utility Wagon will be ready in June (diesel option).
Awesome! I really wish we had the diesel option here but I guess emissions won’t allow it… I don’t know if we will be limited on the models but I’ve heard that as well. so exciting that you got one, what will you be doing with it? Also - What color did you get?
@@DocWrangler Magic Mushroom was my colour choice, with red chassis. 18” steel rims, plus a few accessories such as winch, roof rack, raised air intake and LED light bar. Some of the ranges we attend require 4x4 for access in winter and wet months.
@@DocWrangler BMW doesn't sell the B57 diesel engine in us so it hasn't had it emissions approved in the us. Ineos isn't probably going to sell enough of them for it to make financial sense to pay for BMW to have it approved.
@@DocWrangler This isn't a major manufacturer, so aftermarket support could take ages. TBH in every video I see of the Grenadier, the front axle looks like it barely articulates more than some off road oriented SUVs with IFS.
There's always a wrench to disconnect the sway bar. I've driven the Gren offroad and the sway bars feel well tuned like it might not even need disconnection.
The rear seat backs will fold flat, but not level with the rear floor. This has been confirmed numerous times already due to the car battery (and auxiliary battery) under the seats. There are plans for an aftermarket slim rear shelf compartment that will make it level when the rear seats are folded down.
Seats fold level, but not flat in relation to cargo deck. Second row seats didn’t impress me regarding leg room and loss of cargo space. Two seater Utility Wagon makes full use of cargo deck, including full height steel mesh bulkhead behind driver/passenger seats. Already checked out that Pelican 1750 rifle cases fit just fine. Optional 5.5tonne winch may look expensive, but suspension is upgraded, as well as auxiliary wiring harness is pre installed.
There are several reasons why not to buy the Ineous. First of all, no manual transmission option. If you are stuck in the middle of nowhere it is better to have a manual transmission, you can push starts a vehicle with manual transmission you can tow it with another vehicle without causing damage to the hear box etc. Second point BMW engine. These engines are loaded with electronics and again best to have a straight forward engine especially in remote places. The footprint of BMW is not synonym with places like Africa so availability of spare parts and skilled mechanics is in question. The Ineous is a mishmash of parts and only time will prove if this is the correct mix.
Looks much better that the old Defender and better looking to the brand new Defender. The new Defender has a horrible rear end, looks like someone too a bread knife to it and sliced off the rear end.
Thanks for coming by and checking out my review of the Grenadier! We had a great time out there driving these rigs around the desert, hope you enjoy!
‘Old school Defender reborn’ yup, I want a Grenadier.
Gonna be fun to see on the trail!

It's good you were able to film inside the Grenadier. When we test drove it in Texas, we weren't allowed to film inside.

I loved seeing it at Overland Expo Mountain West... I would have loved to make it out there for that.. I think its going to be a great overland rig
Agreed! It might come up short as a rock crawler, but sure looks good for camping out of!
Nice job man! The local test drives are the same week as Moore Expo, which I’m already committed to. Of course it works that way!
