Mine is missing the ribbon cable you unplug at: 14:47. It was like this when I first got it. So the power was not working at all and I disassembled it to found out about this. I don't know where to get a replacement part though. that's why it stays as a shelf queen right now.
To anyone watching if you have a camera with just a broken screen you can pickup a parts or not working donor camera for a screen for quite cheap sometimes on ebay.
That side panel holding the LCD assembly looks as though it has a backup cell attached, this was only fitted to the DSR-PD150. The DSR-PD170 had 2 backup cells inside the handle. It looks like this has been made up of two different cameras.
Hi, 12volt, I thinking of buying a 20” Goldstar viewmax tv/vcr combo from the early 90s. It is in good working condition with low hours. Do you think that would be a good set?
Friend l have active subwoofer b&w asw600 bought used 6 years free Market power board came out 1 pair transistor on The board has configuration 2 pairs transistor all connected only came 1 pair transistor ?
Yep it's a pile of crap! I've received heaps of crap too, but it's usually obvious from the outside. i can't believe how bad people treat quality electronics. Drop damage can be a pig to fully repair, hairline fractures are a shit.
These old units are all beyond economical repair at this point. Realistically units like this could easily run 1000 to fix if you have to source old stock boards. Nobody wants to put money into these things. 9 out of 10 give a go ahead of 100 or less and no I don't get diagnostic fees up front. In fact I am very rarely paid a diagnostic fee. I probably should be charging up front because 9 out of 10 abandon the device and then I have to pay to dispose of it because we can't throw electronics in the trash they all have to be taken to recycling center
You have obviously never being in a repair shop. Because if you had you would know that every shop looks like my bench. when I work for Sony every text bench was just as cluttered as mine when I spent 20 years in the repair business all the benches at the shop looked like my workbench busy technicians do not have time to stand around cleaning up their bench after every job time is money and cleaning bench time is unpaid time so nobody does it they fix one thing and they get on to the next and the bench might get a sweep on Friday afternoon before going home for the weekend but that's about it Monday morning it's just as cluttered

That's about the only way to fix but this one needs more than a screen. The lens isn't zooming either.
How do you replace the clock battery on these? I just got a working PD150 but the clock battery died.
My camera uses a rechargable. Just leave it plugged in for awhile.
Any idea can you replace or fix damaged pins DV / Firewire port on sony dsr-170p?
I can send you my MiniDV cam to fix?
Sure I can try. No guarantee I can fix as no parts available.

If it is working it's probably ok.

Ribbon cables, ugh! Never met one I didn’t tear or become unglued from the board
YOU, broke the camera, fishing around.
I did not break anything. It was already broken.

You repair guys are all the same. Charge a diagnostic fee, f up the camera some more, and make the unrepairable excuse to the customer...

Your bench is a mess. Why would anyone hire youth fix their camera.
