Ah, you're kidding me. This was 12 years ago. I owned a Cortina 2000 GXL K reg in 1977 and it had a vinyl roof. It was in Electric Blue and it was great for pulling. I loved that car but watched it slowly rust around me by 1980 when I got rid. 2009 wasn't that just after the crash that we are still suffering from as well as this deadly disease. Good times!
The Mk3 Ford Cortina was launched in late 1970 replacing both the Mk2 Cortina and Corsair. The top of range model was the 2000GXL, and like the GT were the only models with twin headlamps, (cheaper models had single headlamps). In 1973 there was a facelift and all models now had square headlamps except the base model that remained with round lights), and the 2000GXL became the 2000E. The metallic bronze Life on Mars car has the registration KJM212K, so that would be 1971/72, but has 2000E badges with the earlier twin headlamp front.
It didn't matter that they got the cars wrong. It was Tyler's perception of the 70s, not the actual 70s because he was in a coma. So he was bound to get some things wrong. I speak from experience. Comas are crazy.
@@warprecautions631 Except the whole thing's in her mind. She said at the beginning that she had heavily researched everything about Sam Tyler, so she will have known about Gene Hunt and all the rest of them. As I said, I speak from experience. The drugs they give you in intensive care are crazy. Your mind goes off on one and you invent places and scenarios that either don't exist, or are wild illusions loosely based on reality.
@@acciid Ashes to Ashes confirmed it's not a coma or madness, S2 and S3 in particular. OK, S2, we have a new character come in: Martin Summers, former Met police officer. He was a PC in 1982, he witnessed the King Douglas Lane bullion robbery and was bought off to keep quiet. In 2008, he's dying but still aware of what's happening IRL. The opening scene of S2E1 shows the 2008 hospital room with the news showing a report about the missing DI Drake. We don't see Summers, but it can be implied as such. We know this scene is real because Drake is still missing, she hasn't been taken to the hospital yet. S3 we see why Shaz, Chris and Ray are in Gene Hunt's world, what happened to Gene Hunt to send him to this purgatory. We see Jim Keats, the embodiment of evil, an agent of the devil trying to tempt the heroes into hell. There are scenes in A2A that take place without DI Drake present. In LOM, everything is seen through the eyes of Sam Tyler. When we need to see something that's happening elsewhere, Sam is watching it on a TV screen (see the Camberwick Green episode). Sam has to perceive everything for it to be seen by the viewer. Why would his mind be actively simulating things he can't perceive? But in A2A, there are scenes where Drake isn't present (for example, S1E4 when Bolly and Hunt are in the vault, there's a scene with Ray and Chris having a brainwave back at the station), Drake wouldn't be able to perceive that, there's no way for her to know what is happening outside, so if it was a coma we shouldn't be able to see it because Drake cannot see it. I do agree that the meds that you get in hospital can play havoc with the mind. LOM, it's plausible that it could be a coma hallucination. But A2A, it's far less likely given the additional evidence.
This is why I think clarkson should be the P.M and philip glenister should be his number two in charge.. imagine how brit would be with them in charge lmao
The GXL DID have a vinyl roof Jeremy. You don't know as much as you think. So did The 2000E and the 2000GT. Also the GXL had 'Rostyles' and NOT 'Ford Sports rims' as the LOM Cortina had which added to the fact that it was a 2000E. Let's not get onto the dashboard!
both as good as each other but ashes to ashes actually explain gene and his world hecreated sending all dead coppers whereas in life and mars you see sam struggle but then he comes to accept the world he lived in then as you know dies by jumping off a roof
There doing another version of the show set in the 1960"s and in keeping with the David Bowie song titles with the show and they are going to call it the laughing gnome.
Much more softly spoken and reserved out of character Gene, yet he is legendary and hot. Clarkson would make a brilliant footloose cop - equal to Glensiter if he were to be cast for a same or shared role in Ashes to Ashes. The offensive charm should never have rolled over and died, I feel more threatened by feminism than the liberal spool of comical lad rants of the past.
This was broadcast only 15 or so years ago, but I'm betting they wouldn't show anything like it now, everything is too bloody woke. It would offend too many people lol.
Life on Mars and Ashes to Ashes were absolutely brilliant. Very, very thought-provoking. Gene Hunt was the business.
i'm actually from the year 2050 and got hit by a hovercar and now i'm stuck here :/
No you aren't supposed to tell people about that!
Liar lol
I think you’re mad or something.
What's wrong with 2021? We have more charm than 2050
Seems weird seeing him with a southern accent, and without the massive chip on his shoulder ;)
It’s always weird seeing a southerner without a chip on their shoulder ;)
The beginning where they were talking about details just pictured John Simm going 'God is in the detail.'
awesomelyizzy God is in church smartass, love that show!
God is everywhere, Jesus is lord
The car is a 1975 2000E, but was fitted with a GXL grille and lights for the show to be correct for 1973.
Me and the Mrs are binge watching Life on Mars all the to Ashes to Ashes right now, October 24. Doing 2 episodes a day 🤣
Get the Gene Genie back on for another lap!
FIRE UP THE QUATRO!
Philip Glenister yum yum yum yum Thank you a million billion eternities over for posting this xxxx

I love Philip glenister ❤

Knowing there won't be any more of this...
Still, look at how small that audience is! By the end they had an 11-year waiting list!

I speak from experience. Comas are crazy.
But Ashes to Ashes reveals that the world is not just his coma, but a different reality controlled by Gene Hunt acting as purgatory for coppers.

This is why I think clarkson should be the P.M and philip glenister should be his number two in charge.. imagine how brit would be with them in charge lmao
