Just pay a pension based on how long and how much you paid into Social Security. I still see no logic in me getting 'penalized' for having a job where I did not pay into SS for 20 years. I can see getting a lower annuity, but getting penalized for getting a second career after retirement, paying in for 15 years and then retiring? Leave it to the government to take a simple process and make it a convoluted mess. And shame on us for voting for politicians who do this.

      I still see no logic.
      Let me explain.
In order to calculate the PIA, the average indexed monthly earnings (AIME) is split into three parts. Predetermined percentages are applied to each part, and they are all summed together to get the PIA. If someone receives Social Security benefits, the number they use to calculate that benefit is from the primary insurance amount (PIA).
You could work 10 years and get 90% of AIME as your PIA.
I have a high enough AIME (because I paid into for 35 years) that the next marginal bracket is 32%, and the one after is 15%.
Your employer will say: We have paid enough FICA to Max out your "poor person's SSA and then Stop FICA.
So, unfair to those who have paid in for 35 years, and get a lower percentage.

Please, I beg lawmakers. I can hardly buy groceries. My social security is only $ 221.00. please have mercy. Please repeal wep. Then I would receive my full $574.00. Please.

Can lawmakers be this cold as to steal from retirees and spend huge amounts on war and other wasteful spending?

Just give me back what I contributed because I get $0 now. I paid 6.5% for my retirement annuity and 6+% into SSA. THAT WAS ALSO MATCHED BY MY EMPLOYER. So just give back what I put in with the appropriate interest. Same as when the government borrows from the SSA trust fund and later repays it.

I paid into the Social security retirement system. I certainly deserve what I earned just because the system is underfunded that is not because of my actions. It's because of all the free handouts that have been given to people that had never have paid into the system. That is what needs to change !.

If they managed SS benefits in the private sector like the way congress manages it they’d be in jail.

Latest I heard on WEP and GOP, if/when anything happened, it would only involve people who are going to retire and not those already retired. That per Sharrod Brown in Ohio at a news conference.

Not true! It will eliminate WEP and GPO reductions for current retirees also. However, it will not be retroactive.

Quit saying we would get benefits we don't deserve. Our statement from social security says we met the requirements to receive our benefits. So don't steal from public servants who met the requirements. No one will ever want to work in public service unless they work their full career in public service. I took a job in library service and now I can't afford to retire. I hope my health can hold into my golden years. I'm already in mid sixties and I was shocked to learn about this back in 2001.

Who the hell are you accusing of wanting something that they didn't pay for? I pai my share! I should have gotten $430 a month. I understand that and accept it. Social Security will only give back less than $190. Eliminate the god damn thing. Stop stealing people's money.

Why not let people buy years that they are short of 30 to eliminate WEP. Then it shouldn't be a burden on Social Security finances. 12.4% of minimum substantial earnings currently $31,275 annually. So buy at $3878 per year.

PIA is not calculated linear, the lower your AIME the better % you get.
the PIA calculation would take 90% of the first $1,174. It would then take 32% of earnings over $1,174 (and through $7,078) and then take 15% of all monthly earnings over
