Thanks so much for watching! I'd love to hear what you think is trending in 2023 and what's OUT! To be the first to know when our Home Design Journal is out submit your email here - bit.ly/3WXmrHt
I’m not a trend follower and I love Michelle’s ideas . My house is full of Antiques and I love searching barns and old buildings for treasures ☺️💕. Lover your videos, maybe take-us antique shopping so we can where 2 you gravitate that would be so much fun 🤗
We’re filming a shop with us and going antiquing tomorrow! Hoping to have the video up by Thursday afternoon 💃🏻 I’m looking for art and moms looking for EVERYTHING lol
Trends are interesting and nice but I've always done what I love and what makes me happy. I love knowing about what's new in decorating but don't necessarily grab onto every new trending idea out there. I enjoy your channel, especially the Christmas tours. They were fabulous this year.
Yes! We are the same. Love staying in the know but only embrace what we love and can budget for of course. Christmas is our favorite time of year too! We hope to tour some of the Christmas homes decorated for everyday throughout this year 😊
I don’t pay much attention to trends. It’s like what you gals said “do what you love!” 🥰 If you do things to your house that is timeless… it will stand the test of time.👍
I love how y’all talk about the trends. Most importantly is to include to be ok if you don’t like what’s trending. Like I’ve always loved French country. I hardly see anything on tips for modern French country . Thanks for sharing sweet ladies and I hope and pray for a blessed weekend love ❤❤
Hi girls, I am new to your channel, I love your look at design. I cannot wait to see more of your videos!! I tend to jump into trends late. I have to watch and process things first. I can't wait to see your journal!!! My husband and I built our home in 1992, just paid it off last year. We were living on next to nothing so I could be a stay-at-home mom. My husband was making minimum wage, but we did it! I went to work when my youngest went to school but then life unfortunately took a turn, and I became disabled in 2002, 8 back surgeries later and now I spend majority of my time in a hospital bed to try to deal with the pain. Our dream of renovating an old barn into a home went out the window. So, we are still in our 1300 sq ft ranch home and it is all we need. But it is time to do a few up grades. So, I am so excited to have found your channel. Looking forward to seeing more. I can't wait to go back and look at some of your older videos too! My husband and I have been married since 1985 and we only fought about one topic, I felt he should look for a higher paying job, he grew up on a dairy farm, his dad missed everything he did through school b/c of farm work. So when I felt he WAS so underpaid and the man can do ANYTHING~ finally he said the more we make the more we will spend, why can't we be happy with what the Lord is providing and just enjoy all of our family time and blessings. He was SO RIGHT! We never argued again, and he has stayed at the same job for 32 years. (Still underpaid!) Sorry, I didn't plan on sharing all this.
I think Trends are for young people who haven’t found their style yet, and for putting your house on the market🥸🤓 I tried to teach my children that trends are placeholders❤
19 years ago, I painted and wallpapered my master bedroom sage green. At a time when green and wallpaper were out of style. I have adored my serene space . Now, green and wallpaper are finally on trend! I will never give up my open floor plan. With kids and 7 grands, I love it when we cook, play, watch TV, and dine together.
I love the crazy veining. I normally don’t even watch “What’s Out” videos because I’m always going to do what I like and certainly I can’t afford to do what the trends are. I stayed away from Buffalo Check years back because I thought it was going to disappear but it didn’t and then I fell in love with it and now it’s everywhere in my house tastefully. I love open floor plan because I never got to have it even when we bought our forever house! I do get to enjoy open floor plan though when my Bestie and our families go to Parade Of Homes every October! However the last house we went to that I ABSOLUTELY LOVED had designated and open floor plan. It was like a condo but more like a house (duplex) then an apartment. It had a courtyard and a garage 😱! I just fell in love and went to see it twice! I LOVE 💕 your playroom sooooo much! My daughter and I used to do estate sales now she lives in a Midwest state where they have barn sells. I’m more into thrifting for some reason I haven’t done many yard sales lately. Maybe Summer 2023!
I’m not a trend follower either, although I do take ideas from them I just implement them in my own way. I’ve always loved the look of a well worn much loved piece over anything else!
Just because what’s in and what’s out doesn’t mean if we don’t do these things our houses will look dated. I like how you emphasize that. This is more for people who are building or remodeling. I’ve never been to a friend or family members house who I thought look dated unless maybe the had orange shag carpets and orange counter tops with avocado appliances. Even that look could be cool if you were young and had modern art work to balance
We own a 1909 home in Minnesota and I knew I didn’t want open concept. I love having separate rooms. We are renovating our bathroom next week to the period of when the house was built, marble 3 x 6 tiles, marble honeycomb floors and open shower hardware. I bought a German pine hutch coming soon with original spa blue shelving. Love your channel!
WOW!! That sounds stunning! I would love to see that project finished. I love seeing a home restored to its original character and beauty! Thanks for watching!
1909 only the very rich had indoor plumbing :)) I’ve done a modified old style in my 1906. OG clawfoot tub from 1920s and ‘00s, ‘10s and ‘20s accessories.
Love your videos. Thank you for making them. I do realize that they take time on planning and editing. My home was a new build 7 years ago. I have added my personal touch. Right now, I am having my pantry system installed. I designed the space. I found a wonderful company that does beautiful work. I had my walk-in master done last July. I just love it. I am now going to design the rest of my closets. I love organization!
I love you ladies! I am not one to follow trends they come in and out so quickly I tend to do what works for our family, budget friendly and timeless trends that will last
Love the brass Glass shelvesn!! Nate Berkus has done that a lot in his designs!! I am going to redo my kitchen myself and I am put in the brass glass shelves I don't think it'll ever go out!!!
👍👍👍👍👍wallpaper !!!! Love it. There is no need to remove it. Seal it with pro block sw primer as long as you run a thin line of wall compound at the seams. Then cover with a roller with the Pro Block Primer. It acts as if it’s another layer of paper to your Sheetrock. I’ve always done Antiques. Almost all my pieces are antique. I’m so in style now. I always loved walking into my house because it has a very homey feel. People say it feels like an old house and it is not.
If you love it, it is in style. Very happy to see open floor plans becoming less of the standard. It is an important lesson for parents to learn that their children do not need to be under surveillance every second and allowing age appropriate independence is healthy. A few more walls equals a quieter home and maybe spending more time in rooms other than the kitchen is a good thing for all of us?
It doesn't matter what is in style for the masses. All that matters is what you like. I don't understand why people don't do what they like. I just put in white cabinets, white stone quartz countertops and open shelving LOL because I love it. I don't care if anyone else does or not.
It's just not cost conscience for most of us to follow trends. I am seeing an upswing in prices for vintage furniture. I do love the old armoires and occasional tables but prices are mirroring new prices. Love your videos, love that you don't chastise us for decorating for family preference!!
I had soapstone in my last house and I loved it. I had a Tudor cottage built in 1928. We moved and now have a 2 bedroom storybook cottage. I like to used some pieces that are trendy ( if I like it ) and blend with the 1924 historic feel decor
I love to watch your videos. Your ideas for 2023 are interesting. I like wood furniture and wallpaper. Yea!! They are coming back. Keep up the good work. Take care.
It broke our hearts 4 years ago when my parents downsized and we gave antiques away because no one wanted them (I took a few but no room for most). We said then we knew they would become popular again once younger people realized the personality, craftsmanship, and how much better they were made than ikea. And here we are! I’m glad!
You two are so cute! Reminds me how my sweet Mom and I would chat and laugh. You also have some great ideas and advice; none more important than "you do you"! If your home doesn't feel genuine to you, you won't feel as comfortable and happy as you could. Can't wait to see your projects going forward.
I don't care for open floor plans either. I like cubbies! I like the chance to create a slightly different vibe in the next room, and the next. For guests who suddenly need to talk privately about something, I like for another room to be nearby so they can. Or when there are two age groups of kids who need separate spaces. Just my opinion, of course.
Shelby you are right this time! Sorry mom! I think your new sink will pop! I find the marble a bit too busy for my taste but I am sure it will be stunning!
I love the sound of I am right 😋 lol but truly it’s all about doing what we love and if that’s the trend do the trend and if it’s not then don’t. Thanks so much for watching Karen!
I like the separate rooms, open shelving, hate gold hardware, love antiques, sage green and blue and white ironstone. Copper in the kitchen. I have no clue where that fits on the trend meter, but that’s me.
It’s good to know the trend but I only do what I like. Thanks for sharing. I like a somewhat an open plan but I like dedicated spaces especially kitchen with dirty dishes. I have a small opening over my kitchen sink overlooking my dining room and living room so I’m part of the family but that’s as open as I want it.
Speaking of wallpaper, where can I purchase the wallpaper in your playroom Shelby? Thank you! I just love watching you too beautiful women! So inspiring!!
I have never followed trends, I keep the hard spaces like kitchen and bathroom cabinets, floors and doors and backsplashes and wall paint very classic and neutral- this way I can change up the soft decor like curtains, towels, area and throw rugs, pillows, bedding without having to repaint or tear tile out or floors up. The Joanna Gaines look is a basic neutral that she creates wonderful vignettes against. I am not about all white everything- just neutral like classic wood tone cabinets or white, navy, black or gray painted cabinets, very subtle marbling on light countertops or a good black soapstone look, white or marble look backsplash, neutral wood tone floors (whether real, engineered or LVP), simple tile floors with hexagon or Penny tile for bathrooms or entries or mud/laundry rooms. I have always used blues and greens and copper throughout my home and sometimes throw in a yellow or teal or red to refresh my home and my “signature” colors and lots of green plants.
Thank you for sharing your design trends. I too believe one should design, decorate and do what one loves. I tend to stay away from trends. I live in a ranch style home built in 1979 with an 18X20 great room addition that we love. I have a mix of primitives, antiques, recliners, etc. I decorate with what I like. I do have a design question if you could answer or give me resources. I would like to replace my dining room light fixture. We do have an open concept home so our kitchen, dining great room are all open. I have an oval dining table with 6 chairs. I am at a loss for the style and shape of a new dining room light. I do have the "boob" light fixture in the kitchen that I would also like to replace. Any ideas, suggestions or resources for ideas would be appreciated. I love that you two have such a wonderful mother/daughter relationship!! How fun!!
I’m so glad mom picked the wild one😆 Go big or go home! Really fun video. I have so many open shelves in my kitchen, but I don’t have a pantry, it’s a very tiny home!!😰 I also have done my share of removing wallpaper and it’s not for the faint of heart 😅 I also really need a farmhouse update from y’all!!
Not everyone has the money to go out and change things. What’s out for the majority isn’t always the case for others. Your house should be what you love and not about keeping up the the rich and famous.
I really don't care if the wild and crazy is in or out because I think just a little veining is pretty and less busy. I don't care for open shelves because my kitchen is small and cabinet space for storage is more important. They do look nice in the larger kitchens but definitely more to dust and clean. I do think a couple of glass doors for displaying is nice too even if it isn't in now. A lot of open homes tend to just be that open and wasted space. I like neutral walls so that I can change colors. Never loved wall paper.
I love you guys, your style is amazing! So I am looking for a WARM beige by SW. I dont want something yellowish or red! its so hard to pick out paint. Nothing 2 light or dark. thanks so much
You both are so inspiring! I just love your view on everything! Thank you for not pushing new trends, and rather what we love! I am trying to recreate your old house because our home is much like yours.
I’m so glad you enjoy! I saw your comment asking about my skyline house measurements and I found them on my old computer 💃🏻💃🏻💃🏻 the computer died but once my husband brings the cord home I’ll send it over 😊 we got really creative with space planning in there and I love how it turned out! Thanks so much for watching!
@@FarmhouseLiving thank you so much! We just keep going back and forth and I keep looking at your space over and over! I would also love to know the size of the island and how it was detailed, I would actually love to see all of the lower cabinets! Thank you so much!
Well, the good news is that kids have totally opposite tastes than their parents. So, your kid's homes are all going to be drop dead beautiful, full of life and color and harmony.
I like dedicated spaces with an open flow, just not totally open. The homes were looking at that are new builds are all totally open. If I wanted a totally open space I'd buy a loft and decorate more industrial modern. If we get a new house it will be more difficult for my and my style. Our current home has as family room and living room which is my desire but these only have a living, dining and kitchen. They're so behind the times. LOL They're all painted grey with white trim still.
I like the open floor plan design. But once I had it after a new build, I would not do it again. Because of the NOISE factor. My husband is watching TV and then I turn on the garbage disposal, or just running water is too loud.. Maybe a large opening to a room would be better,
Farmhouse is out of style! LOL! I'm just kidding. I'm loving all the vintage pictures that are in style especially fruit. I know Michelle had mentioned empty spaces in the kitchen and I would LOVE how to learn how to install wallpaper. Thank you for this video.
I actually do not understand trends. A kitchen and floors etc ost a lot of money. So go for what you want and enjoy. We do not change our decor at a whim. Spring summer autumn or winter. Thanksgiving and then Halloween and then winter etc. maybe but different colored flowers but more than that such a waste of money. I still have some furniture from when I got married in 1966 and it is in perfect condition ‼️🌺
The thing about trends is they never stay in vogue. Then you find yourself ripping them out and spending more money to put something new in. Personally I think that’s ridiculous. I’m for timeless subtle design. I feel like using a bold counter and backsplash it might look awesome in the beginning but I seriously think it’s too busy gives out far too much energy. I believe subtle is the way to go. If you use a crazy bold veining countertop and backsplash that’s all you’re ever gonna see. That’s where the eye will gravitate to. People are not gonna see anything else. they’re not gonna see the sink they’re not gonna see the cabinets they’re not gonna see anything but that veining. I am for timeless investments that I don’t have to go back and redo. Money is hard to come by so everything should be evolving layered and moving forward and not constantly going back and redoing.
Hi Shelby! Was wondering if you had a link to your kitchen rug( I tried the LTK but it’s not working for me (also sorry this question is totally off topic 😂)
I’m totally okay with off topic questions! That rug is actually vintage and I got it from an online auction! It was a lot of fun and stressful bidding to get it lol
Fast furniture is out but I think the design industry would like us to embrace fast interior design trends. Nope! Trends should be reserved for accessories instead of expensive elements. I like your channel and I hope t grows.
I am old too (50), and remember taking wallpaper down EVERYWHERE in the house I'm in now, but I LOVE wallpaper again. What's a girl to do? I think Ill try the strippable kind.
IF these design elements are out of style and there are no rules, then these design elements are in style. Stop making other people rich and spending your money on what "they" say. Who are"they"? An acquaintance told me stainless steel appliances are out of style. That would mean I would have to replace my refrigerator, stove, double sinks, microwave and dishwasher! Ah, that would be a big fat no.
Like we said these are just things you're going to see come up in the design world. Some things we plan on leaning into because we love and other things we won't lean into because we don't love. We love home design and so we like fresh new ideas but want to stick to what we love most and everybody's style is unique! And that's okay! Have a great day!
I like the homes you show but personally a style I like to not see again is ripped jeans. You both have a nice style for homes, but not so much for clothing.
Thanks so much for watching! I'd love to hear what you think is trending in 2023 and what's OUT!

I never pay attention to trends. Most of the time I have no idea on what's trending in any category. I just do what I love. 😁
that’s exactly what you should be doing 😊❤️ thanks for watching!
Absolutely agree! Who wants to live with "trends?" I want to live in a home where I'm surrounded by items and people I love.
I don't have the money to keep up with trends so that keeps me in check 😆
Same! ❤

Text lettering framed artwork and big bolder wording as art is out too. Now we are seeing more traditional art pieces
Buy what you love and it will usually work when you get it home ! I tell my clients that all the time.

Hi Girls, love your videos & your ideas! Could you show us how to make a design board?
I love a separation of rooms. I'm moving soon and looking for an older home. Love wallpaper!
I love black sinks. I had one in my home that we sold a year ago. I sure miss it.
Where did you get that beautiful table?
Yes! My 80’s home is NOT open floor plan!
Farmhouse is out.. thank goodness!
I have an open floor plan and love it , things come and go
Old and unusual lamps are the best ! I have a thing for unusual lamps! Don’t forget a special finial.

Yes me too 💕
Great points…..loved your views on everything…..agree 100 percent…..❤️👍

I am not about all white everything- just neutral like classic wood tone cabinets or white, navy, black or gray painted cabinets, very subtle marbling on light countertops or a good black soapstone look, white or marble look backsplash, neutral wood tone floors (whether real, engineered or LVP), simple tile floors with hexagon or Penny tile for bathrooms or entries or mud/laundry rooms. I have always used blues and greens and copper throughout my home and sometimes throw in a yellow or teal or red to refresh my home and my “signature” colors and lots of green plants.
I totally agree!! 💕
Shelby and Michelle, look at For the Love of Kitchens by Devol... They're on the Magnolia Network. GREAT INSPIRATION!!! WOW!!!!
You two are the best !!❤
You're so sweet! ❤ Thanks for watching!
Hopefully our videos are inspiring you :)! Thanks for watching!
Hi! Can you tell me how to choose the couch for modern farmhouse living room? 😊
Not everyone has the money to go out and change things. What’s out for the majority isn’t always the case for others. Your house should be what you love and not about keeping up the the rich and famous.
First, I enjoy your videos. You both do an outstanding job! Second, may I ask for the information of the wallpaper featured on 13:20? Thank you.
Congratulations on next steps🎉‼️2023 is going to be grand! Let dreaming and hunting begin!!!!
Yes! Mom and I are going to shop and treasure tomorrow! Thanks for watching! 💕
Awesome video! Where did you get the mural with birds? I love it!
I don’t decorate by trends nor dress that way!! I go with what I love and don’t look cookie cutter
Interested in your journal!
That would you suggest as a perfect white paint?
Great video girls,...thanks so much!
I love the wall mural in your home. Can you share where you got it and the name of the mural?
would love the design journal
Well, the good news is that kids have totally opposite tastes than their parents. So, your kid's homes are all going to be drop dead beautiful, full of life and color and harmony.
The no crown mold look I’ve seen for so long again is a very inexpensive track house look. As a rule, people with the money add woodwork!!!
I loved this
Thank you 😊
I love the subtle veining. Its classy and beautiful. Busy veining seems too much IMO.
Please tell me what the paint colors are for the house @ 9:54 with the blue trim and bluish/white walls??😮
I like the open floor plan design. But once I had it after a new build, I would not do it again. Because of the NOISE factor. My husband is watching TV and then I turn on the garbage disposal, or just running water is too loud.. Maybe a large opening to a room would be better,
Love this video and y'all!
Marble will never go out of style
I agree!
Farmhouse is out of style! LOL! I'm just kidding. I'm loving all the vintage pictures that are in style especially fruit. I know Michelle had mentioned empty spaces in the kitchen and I would LOVE how to learn how to install wallpaper. Thank you for this video.
I was waiting for somebody 😋 we should do a tutorial video on wallpaper! It’s so much easier than you think. It’s my favorite project to DIY!
@@FarmhouseLiving LOL!
I like you guys, just found you!😊
Can't even find soapstone right now!
I have a pact with my friends to discourage each other from ever using wallpaper again. It is just awful to take off!
I totally agree! Thank you so much! You’re so kind 💕
roll out drawers
I am old too (50), and remember taking wallpaper down EVERYWHERE in the house I'm in now, but I LOVE wallpaper again. What's a girl to do? I think Ill try the strippable kind.
It’s crazy I’ve always loved spaces with vintage furniture and wall paper. So I guess my house will becoming back into style! 💗
Where is the color card link
so who decides whats in or not. just an opinion
I disagree! Trends come and go. I have open shelving. Love it! To me it's timeless.
Is moms house on your channel
Yes :) Here's the tour we did last spring - ua-cam.com/video/Op-4aBcq7L8/v-deo.html We'll be filming an updated tour soon!
@@FarmhouseLiving thank you
I don't follow trends as it would cost a fortune to keep up. Put in your home what you love .
so early!
I like the homes you show but personally a style I like to not see again is ripped jeans. You both have a nice style for homes, but not so much for clothing.
