Thank you so much. Listening to Annette brought tears to my eyes because this is the first time I've actually heard her speak and I've loved Martha and the Vandellas since hearing their first smash hit "Come and get these memories" when I returned to the Motor City in 1963 to party over the Spring Break.

Ric Orisak: I always enjoy listening to these interviews with old time stars. Not many know Annette because she did not stay with the Vandellas very long. Annette's replacement, Betty Kelly is better known as it is Betty that was rushed into the studio to record Dancing in The Street as Annette left rather abruptly. Annette left just before the group really became super stars. Most people know Martha and the Vandellas as Rosalind Ashford, Betty Kelly and Martha Reeves. Rosalind, Betty and Martha were the hit making line up that everyone knows from 1964 to mid 1967. This line up appeared on national TV quite often. Everyone knew Rosalind, Betty and Martha from all the TV appearances and recordings all the way from Dancing in the Street, Nowhere to Run, Love Bug Leave My Heart Alone and more. In fact when Martha and the Vandellas were inducted into the Hall of Fame it was Martha, Betty and Rosalind's 1965 TV Hullaballoo appearance that was showing on the big screen at the ceremony. Unfortunately Annette did not get to cash in on the fame as there is virtually no TV footage of Annette singing with the group as the group had not yet hit its superstar status until Betty joined. I would love for you to interview Betty Kelly as she was my favorite Vandella, very feisty and beautiful looking. Martha kicked Betty out when they started fighting with each other. After Betty was gone Martha and Vandellas pretty much ceased having hits.

It’s great to see this interview. Most times, Martha as the lead dominated (not in a bad way) the interviews, not to mention the fact that Annette was there in the beginning. An interview with Betty and Rosalind would be great also.

I have always been a devoted fan of Martha and the Vandellas as I was born in 1967. However, they never reached superstar status and you can pretty much thank Berry Gordy for that.
