@@joefosh I just watched something on James Gandolfini and he wanted to eat to get further into the character. I guess he ate many plates of food for each scene.
@@joefosh Gandolfini was a master with a knife and a fork and a plate of food. Jennifer Aniston's throat clearing seems to be exclusive to Friends (the only clips shown here). That might imply that this is a quirk of "Rachel's" that Aniston consciously used for the character. She doesn't seem to do it in other roles. The Brad Pitt eating is super well known. I love watching him stuff cheeseburgers in his mouth while talking. It's hilarious.
I was more surprised they skipped the super practical reason for other actors not commonly eating on film: the scene might need 30 takes or more, the actor can easily end up having to consume a lot of food.
nat4200 Yeah. I remember watching the commentary on the movie Rounders once, and Edward Norton has a scene where he and and Matt Damon are walking down the street while Norton eats a hot dog. They were all laughing about how many hot dogs he ended up eating during the shooting. Apparently he got pretty sick.
frozenaorta That Peanut Butter scene from Meet Joe Black made me start eating peanut butter like that....like I'd never e end heard of it before...... EVERY....TIME
nat4200 Exactly. And having people eating in a scene probably makes editing harder if they have to use different takes of the same scene. It's really noticeable when an actor has taken a bite out of something but it's suddenly whole again in the next shot. Or when someone's drinking and the liquid level in the glass keeps going up and down. I'm sure it's easier to just leave food out of a scene completely.
Amelia Q. Yep. It's continuity errors just waiting to happen. Back when my girlfriend and I used to actually watch Big Bang Theory, we always used to be amused by how they never ate. They freeze and react to something said.
John Cusack went to my high school (Many years before I did, of course). I assume on days it was raining he'd stand outside the classroom and listen through the window with one of those old-timy hearing horns. ...I've watched TNG so many times, yet never picked up on that. Not sure if it had more to do with his size or his back injury. He also leans a lot when he's still.
Enzd It may be a combination of both conditions. The leaning is definitely from the injury, though. But yeah, there's a compilation video of him climbing over the backs of chairs in like half a dozen scenes from TNG (And there's definitely many more, but the video maker chose those for the compilation). It's kind of mesmerizing to watch how he'd enter a scene and with a single action immediately own the room lol.
I sit on most chairs the same way. I'm 6'1", but have very long legs for my height. Any chair that isn't about belly button high just gets hurdled like the way Riker does it. Think that probably has a lot to do with it, very few people have commented on it with me. It's weird, but not weird enough to draw someones attention to exactly what's happening. They just think "hm, that seemed different".
I had seen an interview where that maneuver was mentioned, and it came up that he did it for two reasons, one it was an inside joke making fun of how small the chairs they used on set were, and the other was it was easier for him to do smoothly later on when he had some back issues.

I've actually lost friends because they end a lot of sentences with "huh." A couple of times I actually said nothing after they said it to test them and they just repeated "huh," only a little more emphatically. It got to be soooo annoying.
The jennifer anniston one i thought was part of her character... you only showed her doing it as rachel, not as an actress in several different characters. That cough is on purpose, its a rachel thing; her getting attention or feeling uncomfortable about what she is about to say or not say ... The brad pitt one was one i already knew. He eats in like every single film lol
Doesn't bother me either. Quentin Tarantino has a tendency of rambling aimlessly on nonsense subjects btw. An example is his diatribe on the meaning of Like A Virgin
Kristen Stewart's lip biting becomes even more curious if you consider that it found it's way into E.L James novel "50 Shades of Grey", which started as "Twilight" fan fiction. The lip biting is one of Anastasia Steele's (the novel's protagonist) most characterisic traits, which implies that she is based on Stewart.
I'd have to agree, especially since her character was a spoiled brat, the "look at me"-ahem suits the series. Without investigating her roles outside of Friends, it's hard to say.
Maybe he has scoliosis... It can look like a person is leaning like that if they have scoliosis. I have minor scoliosis and my head leans slightly to the left like that, same with my dad.
I'm tired of MOTHERF****ING Samuel MOTHERF****ING Jackson saying the MOTHERF****ING phrase on every MOTHERF****ING movie. MOTHERF****ING Fact: I'm MOTHERF****ING not! I MOTHERF****ING love it.
Jimmy Fallon doesn't so much start speaking gibberish as he does start slurring his speech. This is a combination of two things. 1) Sometimes it's considered funnier to say something humorous and just keep going as if you're unimpressed by your own joke, because it makes it feel more impressive when something genuinely funny you just said doesn't even faze you, so 2) he does it in a way that allows the audience to keep laughing without having to worry that they're missing vital information while he continues talking. It's more a strange technique than a tic.
Catherine Mathers Usually it's not really booze though. I read somewhere that sometimes they use apple juice instead of beer, or water for vodka, etc etc. Though it did see... I honestly forgot the movie, but they didn't substitute anything for actual alcohol because it was supposed to be a quick scene... yet went on for take after take after take, after take. I want to say that it was Chris Pratt in Take Me Home Tonight, though I could totally be wrong. I do recall the hotdogs from he first American Pie, where Jason Biggs had stated that they ate so many of them during the scene in the restaurant, that he had to start spitting them out or else he was going to vomit.
I got one for ya. Did you know that Will Smith doesn't know how to eat pie properly? He always scoops a piece out of the middle. Top of my head, he does it in "I am Legend", "I, Robot", and "independence day" (I think, not sure on the last one).
@@MrDlt123 Sam can act. Just watch Kingsman, Lakeview Terrace and Django. He played 3 different characters convincingly. Even in Avengers Captain Fury is Captain Fury. No one will mistake him as hitman in Pulp Fiction. Clint Eastwood is just an example of typecasting that works very well. Sure he plays no one but himself all the time. But it works with his characters. Dirty Harry won't be as great a movie as it has been had Harry Callaghan portrayed by Brando or De Niro.
andres b Why leave him alone? He's a douche. He makes fun of UA-camrs and Twitch streamers because he knows hollywood is losing! Then he and the other talk-show loser pay for fake views on their own UA-cam stuff. Want more reasons to dislike the guy? I've got plenty.
To be fair, the rain was constant in 'Identity' (and it was also a plot device for trapping the characters together), and if Cusack's character had been afraid to get "a little wet", he'd have done absolutely nothing.
Don't have a shoulder injury but I do, do that as well. The reason why is due to Devil May Cry 3, the beginning of the game Dante throws one of his signature red coats on. I saw this as a child and replicated it best I could and now it's just habit... Looks cool though.

That Jimmy Fallon thing is called a Fill - what comedians say/do after a joke to seem as if they're being interrupted by the laugh. When I was a kid I noticed Joan Rivers doing this. After EVERY punchline, she would say, "It is JUST...." as if about to say "It is just crazy how that person I just insulted is so blah blah blah...." It always drove me crazy. Once I noticed it, it was all I could hear.
Hunter Glass Have you ever noticed that one of Tom Cruises front Incisors is in the middle of his face? It’s one of those things that you probably haven’t noticed before... But now that you know it’s there You won’t be able to not notice... You’re welcome 🤣😂🤣😂
see, i actually thought this out. i figured there are three "man" words for "seductress": gigolo, romeo, and lothario. a gigolo is in it for money, a romeo is in it for love, but a lothario is in it purely for the sexual conquest. although casanova is good too.
You figured wrong, and you didn't even count the first one that came to my mind: "Seducer." And then there are "wolf," "bird dog," "inveigler," "debaucher," "Don Juan," "playboy," "gallant," "womanizer," "gay boy," "philanderer," "charmer," "lady-killer," "ladies' man," "trifler," "seductor," and yes, "lothario," as well as others. A "romeo" is NOT in it for love. A "romeo" is one who has a reputation of success with many women, usually without any thought of the consequences. The singer in the song "The Wanderer" by Dion is a "romeo." But Hank Moody from Californication would not be because he *frequently* considered the consequences, and saw an individual beauty in every woman he was with.
Robert Downey Jr likes to eat too (blueberries in Avengers) And Star Trek TNG has Picard tugging his uniform and Reiker swinging his leg over the chair every time he sits.
FYI, the president Bartlett jacket thing is because Martin Sheen doesn't have the full range of motion in one of his arms. He always puts his jacket on that way and they thought it looked cool and put it in the show.
The Brad Pitt one... Not sure about his other rolls, but in the Ocean’s movies it was confirmed that he eats so often to show that his character is insanely busy all the time and rarely has time to sit and eat.
Yes, I was wondering what part was when he wasn't speaking in gibberish. It's a good thing we had some CC going on, or I would have had know idea what he was saying. As is usual.
***** His laughs and jokes are cheap shots sometimes in my opinion but there are times when I enjoy the games he plays with celebrities. The way I see it, he's wayy funnier and more entertaining than that damn Jimmy Kimmel. That's who I can't stand.
Promise Mitchell What about Kimmel don't you like? I'll be honest , I didn't think much if his earlier shit with the Man Show, but he actually seems like a genuine guy. His laughs are authentic, he's sarcastic and empathetic and sometimes pretty funny rmwho doesn't take himself too seriously.
so, jennifer aniston was doing something called method acting, by creating a tick for rachel green. i will concede if proper evidence is shown, but the only examples shown here are from friends, leading me to believe its a brilliant acting choice made by someone.
yes and she was so into method acting, she was determined to showcase rachel greene's distaste for bras yet her love for tight shirts and 'nippy' temperatures. ohh, that jennifer aniston. really knew her character! and adolescent me cant thank her enough!
I think you're right. The no bra and tight actually adds to the throat clearing. They all act as attention grabers. And since Rachel is a former Rich princess it makes sense that she would even subconsciously do things that were attention Grabbers
The Jennifer Aniston one is unfair, I think. You only showed clips from Friends, so it's reasonable to say that was just a tick she made up for the Rachel character. And it does fit the character, so why not? Had you shown even a single clip from any of her other work, I might believe it...
"Blueberry?" Apparently he hides food all over the set and eventually the director gave up on having the crew find all his stashes of food so they just let him eat. Those are actual blueberries he offers Cap and that wasn't part of the script.
Eating during dialogue is pretty common trick for screenwriters to make character more selfish and/or dickish. Just count how many bad guys are eating something during their monologues. But yeah, totally neat trick he did in that scene.
First one i thought of before the list even started was Val Kilmer...but i thought it would be his twirling and pen or rolling a quarter over his knuckles. Have seen him do it in like 12 movies. Top Gun, Tombstone, Real Genius ect......
Just proves to me that he can't keep a straight face, while telling a joke, he slurs trying to keep laughter in. Watch his Madlibs with Benedict Cumberbatch. Cumberbatch makes it through the whole thing, only cracking a smile at the last "joke" in the skit.
I'm mildly ashamed at how captivated I was by Martin Sheen putting on jackets.

He actually has a back problem thats why he sits like that
Or lurches head first through doorways.
I always thought the difference between Patrick Stewart and Jonathan Frakes while they are standing is funny. Stewart stands with his feet together head held high, shoulders and arms relaxed. Frakes stands with his feet apart, shoulders tensed and looks like he's about to tackle someone.
Riker was just looking for the chance to go mutiny on Picard when Data wasn't looking. haha
And on this day many new drinking games were born!
Another one to look for is how much Jim Carrey says "C'mon" in most of his movies. A lot.
Maybe he's Biden's love child. Come on man!,
Burt Reynolds always chewing gum.
Keifer Sutherland always yelling in anguish.
Johnny.. good call on Reynolds. I had a couple of drinks with him in Toledo Oh.. at Tony Paco's.. ( He was good friends with the owner) Well, anyway he chewed his gum in person too..

Leonardo DiCaprio says "huh" a lot after almost every sentence
I've actually lost friends because they end a lot of sentences with "huh." A couple of times I actually said nothing after they said it to test them and they just repeated "huh," only a little more emphatically. It got to be soooo annoying.

El Trollski exactly! He shouldn't have won the academy award for being raped by a bear. That should have gone to Antonio Banderas for 33.
Martin Sheen puts his jacket on like that because of a serious shoulder injury, apparently.
I was just about to comment that; but I knew someone else probably did.
Classtoise It's a bloody mesmerising work around! An elegant solution to a painful problem
what a way to make a meme out of a shoulder injury
It became so iconic that the actor playing the younger version of Bartlett also learned it too.
He also did it in Wall Street decades earlier, so wasn't intended as a character quirk.
Brad Pitt eats even when he's off camera talking on the phone....see Fight Club

Like 90% of their shots of John Cusack in the rain were taken from one movie so...

Not a great ending though...
I'd have to agree, especially since her character was a spoiled brat, the "look at me"-ahem suits the series. Without investigating her roles outside of Friends, it's hard to say.
Yea. I started thinking of Con Air after that John Cusack bit and I don't remember him standing out in the rain in that movie.

When he can't help himself.. doesn't it become a tic?
I find myself doing the first thing you stated and for the same reason but instead of slurring I do it in a deadpan manner.
Or he is just drunk.
John Cusack looks like a cross between Nicolas Cage and Kevin Spacey.
Thats completely true and completely unfortunate.
i love actor quirks, i'm always looking for them
Its one of those passed down secrets the old Stars tell young actors. Do something only you do whenever the camera is on you.
robert downey jr eats all the time on set and during filming. so much so, that they just started incorporating it
Like the Shwarma at the end of Avengers?
Mitsurugi2424 like in the avengers when he had the grapes or something that wasn't written he just wanted to eat
Gibbledeegook Mcgoober yeah, that kind of stuff.
That's genious. If you're hungry, eat on the job. Its like a fringe benefit. Wonder if drinkers have incorporated booze and acting?
Catherine Mathers
Usually it's not really booze though.
Jennifer Aniston doesn't do the quirk stated on this video, Rachel Green does. They only showed clips from Friends.
That moment you realize you fell in love with a pretend lovable quirk and then wonder about that cute nose scrunch your gf always makes.
Exactly my thoughts!!
But she does make the noise in other movies!!! Lol. Watch Leprechaun or horrible bosses. Lol
Sean Bean - dying. He's really good at dying on screen, and looks cool doing it.
Jason Statham always looks, dresses, acts and talks like Jason Statham.
There are lots of actors that are essentially the same person in every movie. Vince Vaughn, Samuel Jackson, Clint Eastwood, to name a few.
Don't forget Jim Carrey
@@MrDlt123 Sam can act. Just watch Kingsman, Lakeview Terrace and Django. He played 3 different characters convincingly. Even in Avengers Captain Fury is Captain Fury. No one will mistake him as hitman in Pulp Fiction.
Clint Eastwood is just an example of typecasting that works very well. Sure he plays no one but himself all the time. But it works with his characters. Dirty Harry won't be as great a movie as it has been had Harry Callaghan portrayed by Brando or De Niro.
Owen Wilson saying 'WOW' and Keanu Reeves saying 'Woah' should be on this. Would have made it an even 10, too.

Martin sheen has a shoulder injury and that's why he puts on his jackets like that
Came here for this.

When I was a kid I noticed Joan Rivers doing this. the male analog to "seductress" is "lothario".
Is it really?
I never heard that before. I wonder what the origin of that word is. Lothario. Hmmm...
Or Casanova?
+Adam Ant Its when you have lost hair-i--o and feel the need to prove your manhood.
see, i actually thought this out. i figured there are three "man" words for "seductress": gigolo, romeo, and lothario. a gigolo is in it for money, a romeo is in it for love, but a lothario is in it purely for the sexual conquest.
although casanova is good too.
"Just a stupid reason to get your gun wet" is now code for a bad hookup.
