As a kid growing up. This dessert was there for Thanksgiving, Christmas, baptisms, weddings, graduations and birthdays. My uncle called it the Relative Dessert. Because it was always there on special occasions. Btw. Great video.
I love fruit salad, we have a Filipino version of Ambrosia salad ( fruit salad) but it’s really different ingredients, we use some of the local fruits like kaong on the bottle, nata de coco on the bottle also, we make that for special occasions like Holidays.
My Ambrosia is very tropical..Young coconut meat, Sweet palm fruit, coconut jelly, lychees, pineapple, bananas, diced semi ripe papaya, sweet melon, rice crispies, taro cream, all purpose cream..served with a scoop of coconut ice cream as a topping!..so refreshingly good! 👍
I replaced yogurt instead of sour cream, walnuts and fresh fruits (mangoes, grapes, papaya, pineapple, young coconut meat), mallows, cacao nibs, and then all purpose cream. in the Philippines. Yum!,😁
I made this for our theology 🧑🎓 since I don’t like sour cream, I used yogurt and added pieces of apple, every body loved it.The next time I made it more classical with the recipe for my own whipped cream, and sour cream DELICIOUS.
I'm one of those that do not like maraschino cherries. Instead, I use a couple of heaping tablespoons of sour cherry preserves simmered and cooled until thickened, then add a bit of port or sherry. Absolutely divine!
I love fruit salad but I only have one recipe for it. It’s a good one but I want to try some other varieties. I’m happy to find this one. I’m hoping to give it a try. I appreciate being able to learn from you. I make cooking videos too. It’s amazing being able to share and learn from other talented creators like you.
I do mine differently. I use a couple of cans of fruit cocktail because it has all the fruit in it except Mandarin Oranges which makes it cheaper to buy if you are on a budget and easier. I then add a can of Mandarin, marshmallows, whip cream and some times coconut. It is an easy dessert and especially during the hot summer.
Yes! In answer to Thelma, we have the Filipino version, but nowadays, the sour cream/ cool whips beats the condensed milk. We like this lighter version, for sure!
Delicious recipe. Will try.. One suggestion is to strain the yogurt or sour cream first. I use coffee filters over a colander on top of a bowl or a yogurt strainer is fine to catch any liquid.
I'm going to try this variation. We always called it christmas salad or 5 cup salad because it used 1 cup of each ingredient. The funny thing is, I never new it was called "ambrosia." 😊
Awesome recipe simple ingredients definitely gonna give this a try this year. For some reason i thought this stuff was called marshmallow fluff 😂 ambrosia it is
Do not make the green jello as normal. We just add the green powder straight from the package to the whip cream mix. Do it a little at a time and taste. It can get too green and too strong very quickly. And we top ours with crushed pecans and more coconut.
Some use cool whip, some use homemade whip cream, some use only sour cream and others mix sour cream with the whip cream. I hate sour cream and plain yogurt and mayonnaise, and I like it sweet so I prefer just straight up whip cream, I never thought about vanilla yogurt, I also don't like pineapple but I like to add bananas
Actually no I didn't say 1 cup of whipped topping. I said "one full tub or one container" if you rewatch at 2:02 you will hear it. Which is about 2 cups if using measuring cups. I also said near the beginning the amounts don't matter, so if all you have is 1 cup, like half of a container left, or if you make homemade whipped cream and all you have is 1 cup then that is fine.
Wouldn’t it make sense to mix the whipped cream and sour cream together to whip it up good? Seems like you could incidentally have some areas of the recipe that were too sweet or maybe even just straight sour cream taste.
How many people does this specific recipe yield? Would Love to make this for my daughter's Gender Reveal Party.. Halloween themed.. Any suggestions on trying to make it more Halloweeny... Lol Thank you🧡🎉🎉
It makes enough for about 10 people. You could carve a cantaloupe or Watermelon like a pumpkin and then have the ambrosia salad in the mouth, like the fruit pumpkin threw it up. haha

Thank you. I'll go that route!

Delicious recipe. Will try.. One suggestion is to strain the yogurt or sour cream first. I use coffee filters over a colander on top of a bowl or a yogurt strainer is fine to catch any liquid.
Thanks! Are you in the States? The sour cream an yogurt here are really thick, so no need to strain it.
@@inthekitchenwithmatt yep, I am in the US. When I was in Greece, the yogurt was very thick. Miss it. Like your recipe. Have a nice day.
@@eleniv7512 Authentic Greek Yogurt from Greece would be amazing! Have a nice day as well.
Looking good, I'll try it.
Thank you! Please do! :)

Great video. I use frozen cherries, kiwi balls, and chopped pecans in mine.
Thanks!
Looks delicious and yummy
Thank you!!
I'm going to try this variation.
We always called it christmas salad or 5 cup salad because it used 1 cup of each ingredient.
The funny thing is, I never new it was called "ambrosia." 😊
Awesome!
When a child we had just sour cream with cut marshmallows and pineapple mixed nothing else yum
Yummy! We dipped strawberries in sour cream and then in a little brown sugar when we were young. Good memories!
Sometimes simple is better, the "less is more" idea.
The first time I had it was so yummy
Awesome! Glad you tried it and liked it!
Yum I’ll try it.
Please do!!
Looks great
Thank you, Laura!
haha i always loved this but never knew the name of it ! thanks Matt . (:
You are very welcome!! :) :)
Looking forward to make me some
Awesome! :)
Would pecans. Or walnuts be good n the ambrosia salad??
Sure!
Awesome 👌
Yes Absolutely!, Either one is good!! I've had both, make sure their in peices
Awesome recipe simple ingredients definitely gonna give this a try this year. For some reason i thought this stuff was called marshmallow fluff 😂 ambrosia it is
Thanks!! Let me know how it turns out once you try it.
Looks delicious I like to have your recipe
Thank you!! Here you go! www.inthekitchenwithmatt.com/ambrosia-salad
We’ve always used drained fruit cocktail, mandarin’s, coconut, marshmallows, pecans and whipped cream.
Nice! Lots of ways to make it.
I always dipped my strawberries in sours cream then brown sugar
Awesome! I did that growing up as well. So good!
A lady I used work with. Added. Green pistachio jello to hers. Have u ever heard of that? How would u do it. It was 😍
I haven't, but if you like it, add it! :) No wrong way to make this in my opinion, haha. :)
Do not make the green jello as normal. We just add the green powder straight from the package to the whip cream mix. Do it a little at a time and taste. It can get too green and too strong very quickly. And we top ours with crushed pecans and more coconut.
Thats what I do. No sour cream. I mix a box of pistachio pudding in with the crushed pineapples then fold everything in.
That's Watergate salad...not exactly the same
Yes, you are confusing Watergate salad for ambrosia salad.
Can u used fruit contains in the can instead of individual fruits
Yes you can use pretty much any fruit that you want.
My was fruit cocktail mandarin oranges coconut marshmallows and sour cream
Cool!
Hi could i use crush pineapple in this salad 🤔
Hello, absolutely!
My dad always made it on holidays
Awesome!!
Any ideas for replacement for coconut?
Just leave it out. :)
Maybe you can add chopped almonds or macadamia nuts. I do that sometimes to replace coconut since I’m not a fan of coconut.
I always add cinnamon too the salad
How long will it last in the fridge
3 to 4 days
Some use cool whip, some use homemade whip cream, some use only sour cream and others mix sour cream with the whip cream. Yes so many options for making it exactly how you want it.
I love ambrosia. YOUR recipe is the same as mine
Ambrosia is so good! Lots of recipes our there, they are all extremely similar.
Thankyou👌
You are welcome!
Where do I get fruit marshmallows?
Same place you buy normal marshmallows if they have them. Places like Walmart, Target, Kroger, Albertsons, etc.
In the video you say one cup of whipped topping, but the printed version you wrote 2 cups. I am assuming it is 1 cup?
Actually no I didn't say 1 cup of whipped topping. I said "one full tub or one container" if you rewatch at 2:02 you will hear it. Which is about 2 cups if using measuring cups. I also said near the beginning the amounts don't matter, so if all you have is 1 cup, like half of a container left, or if you make homemade whipped cream and all you have is 1 cup then that is fine.
Look so yummyy😋

Looks yummyy😍😍😍
Thank you!!
I spent like a year trying to find this name, I’ve been calling it “fluffy stuff”😂
That is a good name too!! haha
Wouldn’t it make sense to mix the whipped cream and sour cream together to whip it up good? Seems like you could incidentally have some areas of the recipe that were too sweet or maybe even just straight sour cream taste.
Umm yes, that is what I did in the video, haha. Re-watch it at 2:36 I am mixing the sour cream and whipped cream together.
You seem so sweet. Thank you for the recipe
Thank you! And you are welcome!
I really thought this salad was a prop from that movie about the boy with the funny hands.
haha
Wow! New sub here! I recently made an Italian Salad on my page too and *your dish looks amazing!* Hope to stay connected! 😀
Thanks!
👍👍👍
Thank you! :)
Walnuts!
Definitely add nuts if you like!
Tasteless
You have clearly NEVER tried this before if you think it is tasteless, haha.

I Add some coconut to mine
I added coconut to this as well :) You can see it at 0:49 in the video and then I actually say it and add it at 3:39 in the video. :)
👋 hi
Hi
you can use cottage cheese rather than sour cream too
Sure!
I would skip.the marshmallows though.
You can make it how you want
Idk about sour cream
Try it exactly like this. :)
Momma
Te falto el mango ...
You can add mango if you want. It isn't always in season here, so you can't always get it.
I just don’t like it with the sour cream.
Then leave it out.
Talk to much
