I really like your videos. They’re about cooking and not self promotion of your brand. There are a lot of guys on UA-cam that seem more about self promotion and promoting products than they are about cooking. I liked this video as it shows how to utilize an oven and not just a smoker.
Excellent video! Thank you! Personally, I leave all the marinade on, because all the water will eventually evaporate out of the marinade and leave all the flavor on the jerky! If you soak it up with a paper towel you just end up with less marinade flavor on the jerky.
Off topic: Electric Smoker. Went through a dozen different UA-cam videos/reviews, including your older ones, and finally decided to add a Char-broil electric smoker to my Weber Kettle out door kitchen. Hope I'm as happy as you are 12 years from now! Besides, it was the only way I was going to get through the holidays with 6 adults and 2 grandchildren to feed for three weeks!!
I absolutely love doing dry rubs and thought maybe I was crazy but all my friends and family say the same thing. Wow…..so much flavor! For me it’s the only way to go and you don’t have to wait 24hrs to cook. 4-6hrs later and you’re enjoying your Jerky!
I love making beef jerky. I do a combination of marinade and dry rub. After I get all of the beef jerky on my dehydrator trays, I sprinkle extra seasoning on the beef. It turns out amazing every time.
I dont know how this came up in my feed but I watched a few of your shows and you earned a sub and a bell from me... Calming music, voice, and telling it straight. I cant wait to try out some jerky for the first time... Keep on rockin it bro
I made my first home made jerky from watching one of Rys videos... came out fantastic ( in the Oven ) ..... going to give this dry rub version a try... Thanks Ry... Once again.
Here I am watching another of your jerky videos. I love all of them. I normally use inside round. Inexpensive and has the texture I am looking for. (thanks to your advice)
Thanks Ry! From Minnesota, hope you're doing well. :) You seem like a fun guy to hang out with on the porch and toss peanuts, etc. to the squirrels with. :)
Well Ry you've so many Beef Jerky recipes that you've convinced me that I've to try making Beef Jerky, it looks absolutely delicious and simple to prepare. Have a great weekend you and your family.
Great Video Ry! I bet some Korean kalbi marinade would be excellent for jerky! LOL, the most creative way I've seen jerky made is using a cheap Walmart box fan and a few HVAC filters!
Great again ... When I go into a grocery store ,like Costco or Provigo,in Quebec,Canada .... I'm pretty much know about the products that they have ,especially the meats and spices ... oh yeah!!!!
I have. I actually prefer the electric smoker, then the oven, then the dehydrator. Dehydrators tend to take longer and I don't like my jerky that dry anyway :)
What do you mean it should last up 2 five days. I'm lucky if beef jerky last 1 day. That's how much I love beef jerky. Would have to make a ton to last 5 days. Always love your videos.
nice job with the video and the content of the video from an instructional point of view. I make lots of jerky but I always use marinades. What can you tell me about trying to judge what percentage of dry rub do I need for for meat? I tend to make 20-30 pounds when I make any of my flavors of jerky. I am afraid of over seasoning. Can you make any suggestions?
Lay a piece of tinfoil on the bottom rack. Skewer your beef slices on tooth picks and balance them on the top rack with the strips hanging down. That's how I do it. Works really well.
Hey Ry! I’ve been trying to make jerky and let it marinade for 24 hours before smoking. I find that it comes out with little to no flavor after smoking it. Any insight on how to fix this? I use allegros original marinade
I've never had that issue after 24 hours. I would try adding your own flavors to the marinade to pump that up. I've also marinated for 48 hours before so you could give that a go.

Could you do a dry rub jerky still im a smoker? I assume so haha sorry im new to this
@@peter_W91 You sure can :)
@@CookingWithRy awesome!!! I recently bought a masterbuilt smoker haha still learning I absolutely love that I found your channel

Awesome videos, taught me a lot! You’re like the Bob Ross of smoking stuff!
Thank you for this wonderful video comparing dry rub and marinade!
Thanks for the video. Dry rubs the way to go!
Dude, That looks so good!
Thanks! Would it be wrong for me to admit it's all gone? :)
Cooking With Ry If that’s wrong, I don’t wanna be right. But I do wanna be your neighbor. LOL
@@BabyBackManiac You are too funny, Justin!! It is really cool to see my two fav UA-camrs chatting with each other.
Rio Secco Lol. Thanks Rio, have a great weekend.
@@BabyBackManiac You too, buddy!!
Looks good. Definitely gonna make some this weekend.
Great information.
I really enjoy your videos. Common sense presentations and easy to follow. Thanks very much.

Awesome! Glad it worked out for you :)
What a great video :D Great information, fast to the point and at the same time very relaxing.
I personally like a sweet marinade, paired with a spicy dry rub... best of both worlds.
That looks so good. i am gonna try this very soon. thank you so much i love your videos.
Thank you! That's very kind of you :)
Love your weber kettle videos. You should make beef jerk on the Weber kettle
I might try that someday, but 160-170 is a pretty low temp to maintain on the kettle for a long time :)
@@CookingWithRy ok Thanks for replying that'd be great if u do
Another great jerky video bro. Making me a batch soon. Going to give these recipes a try.
Thanks my friend!
Here I am watching another of your jerky videos. I love all of them. I normally use inside round. Inexpensive and has the texture I am looking for. (thanks to your advice)
I love jerky and have been using the oven way for a while! great video... will def try you dry rub :)
Yeah I love using the oven when I can. So easy :)
Thanks Ry! From Minnesota, hope you're doing well. :) You seem like a fun guy to hang out with on the porch and toss peanuts, etc. to the squirrels with. :)

It's one of my favorite snacks and so much more inexpensive to make than to buy :)
Never thought of using dry rub , going to give it a go next time around
Great Video Ry! I bet some Korean kalbi marinade would be excellent for jerky! LOL, the most creative way I've seen jerky made is using a cheap Walmart box fan and a few HVAC filters!
I’m making this today, thank you Ry!
Great videos! Love the variety! Thanks for another good one!
This sounds wonderful! love jerky and the difference is great to know.
Love your jerky videos
Thank you :)

Thanks for the like
Cool comparison Ry! I do jerky quite a lot but honestly I marinate mine much more than dry. I'll try that out again. And it is very easy in the oven.
Yeah I almost always marinate :)
Thank you ! what a great video with love of food! Cheers!
Looks good. Love jerky.
Hafa adai (Guam magnet on your fridge) and thanks for the video. I'll give both versions a try!
Great looking jerky!
Thank you!
Why not both
Have you used a dehydrator? I'm curious of your opinion if that or oven turn out better.
I have. I actually prefer the electric smoker, then the oven, then the dehydrator. Dehydrators tend to take longer and I don't like my jerky that dry anyway :)
Nice. Soon I'm planning on getting three eye of rounds and making one in the oven, dehydrator, and weber kettle to find what I like best.
That's some good jerky!
Can you specifiy what kind of honey is used ? Raw perhaps ?
You can use any you like 😊
Do I have to use sugar?
No. Many people make it without that.
@@CookingWithRy thank you!! I’ll give it a try
can i use a dry age cut
I’ve never tried that but I imagine it should work.
I kind of like both some wet and then add some dry before drying.
Do you ever use a vacuum sealer when you marinade your meat. ✌
I don't. One less piece of equipment I don't have to find a place for :)
Does the dry rub need to be left overnight or can it be quicker?
A few hours will work 👍
@@CookingWithRy Perfect, thanks!
What do you mean it should last up 2 five days. I'm lucky if beef jerky last 1 day. That's how much I love beef jerky. Would have to make a ton to last 5 days. Always love your videos.
LOL. True 😊
Do you use curing salt with jerky or is that a choice?
I don't make it for preservation so I don't use curing salt.

I really can’t for that amount. I usually do 5 pounds or less. And I just coat it by look.
Awesome
Ry,
Love the jerky vids. I have been curious about dry vs marinade. I typically make dry rub jerky. Merry Christmas
Peace Luke T
Looks really good, whats the thickness of the cuts? I m trying it but seems like mine are way too thick
I prefer them a little thicker than most. Usually a little less than 1/4 inch.
This an Awesome video i like the oven way i do have a dehydrator but this seen a great idea thanks for sharing job well done
Could one fasten the process by cooking on a bbq, then into oven for final dehydrate?
If you can keep the heat lower it would be okay on the BBQ.
Is there a way to make the jerky if you dont have the baking sheets or cooling racks? Ive been dying to try these recipes but i dont have the pans XD
Some people just lay the pieces on the oven rack and put foil on an oven rack beneath that to catch any dripping.
@@CookingWithRy i can give it a try :) thank you ry!
Lay a piece of tinfoil on the bottom rack. Skewer your beef slices on tooth picks and balance them on the top rack with the strips hanging down. That's how I do it. Works really well.
Will your dry rub mix with just soy sauce taste any good?
I would think so.
I've been some people ..hang their beef jerky using toothpicks.. does it make a difference laying them flat oppose to hanging them?
Either way works well.
Add the dry rub to the marinade? 🤔
If you want to.
What should we do if it becomes too dry and crunchy
When that's happened to me it's because I left it too long in the oven.
@@CookingWithRy so can I do anything now to make it little soft?
@@jerushamissal5354 Once it's dried that far I'm not sure if there's a way to bring it back.
So the final answer...do both on the same meat! :D
I wouldn't turn that down :)
I know you’ve made a lot of different flavored jerky’s. Just wondering if you have an all time favorite..... thanks....
Spicy Teriyaki 😊

I like to marinate and then throw on some rub before popping into the oven
Just like my parents used to make, looks great Ry 👍
Thanks!
Indeed yesss
Hey ry where ya been hope all is well
A little under the weather last week. New video out tomorrow :)
Christmas came early, fellas
Funny.. I start making jerky..
Think hmm do I know what I'm doing? Lemme watch a vid 😆
Thai jerky is the best. They make jerky. But before es its served they deep dry it.
Make some smoked sausage sticks
I've never been a big fan of those :)
I think the dry rub would be better. The regular wet rub is too salty for me.
I think im gonna marinade and at the 2 hour mark ill dry rub it :)
I tried a dried rub jerky and it smelt like bologna and was really unappetizing.
Mmmmmmmmmmmmmm
