They didn't just reuse Sally's jumping through the window scene here. They also reused Pam's close up of her butt as she walks to the house. They did it here and in the previous one with Jessica Biel.
Absolutely love this one, I really enjoy the Remake and the beginning the most in the franchise. Also think AB plays the most badass and brutal Leatherface
Hey Kylie! A couple months ago I watched your collection video, and I started my own! I have some notable movies (Jaws, It, Harry Potter collection, etc.), and I just want to say thanks for introducing me to the world of movie collecting!
(SPOILER) I don’t know about anyone else but after I was done watching this movie it kinda just left me with a feeling of sadness ya know….like they all fought really hard for their lives and they unfortunately didn’t survive..I honestly didn’t want anyone in this movie to die.
I dig what you said about not going for the gore. I love this whole franchise mainly for the wacky characters and scenarios. The gore and violence are a bi product to telling the story and presenting the ambience. In all honesty it's for this reason that I don't usually discuss these movies since most would assume this makes me a gore hound.
Totally agree with you, this movie had so much wasted potential. I went to the cinema to see this movie, back in 2006, and I was excited because I think that the 2003´s version is excellent; and when The Beginning had finished, I thought: "So? What is the point of this movie?" And the answer is: "I don´t know". Texas Chainsaw 3D is weird, but I like it.
It always makes me laugh when you stop the review, and the box pops up so you can add additional information. It makes you stand out from other horror channels, and at least for me it works.
I am a veteran and believe that war is useless (unless in defence) and if that was the intended message with eveyrone dying at the end, props to the filmmaker, with that said the boy becoming a heroe story arch through the push ups and sacrifice was great to me, and I don't think that has to conflict with the antiwar message (again if that was intended) it could just be a kid becoming a man, which most guys are gonna enjoy watching
Great review. Just found your channel after searching for reviews after watching the movie. I thought it was pretty great. It captured the same creepy vibe of the remake and had the same slick production. The sherif stole every scene he was in imo.
Though I do agree with it not being as frightening as the first remake, I think this one is pretty underrated. I really liked Sheriff Hoyt's performance once again and Leatherface's muzzled redesign is awesome. The ending was pretty surprising and the soundtrack is surprisingly impressive. Overall I do get where you're coming from, but all in all I think this one isn't as bad as the other awful entries.
I completely understand your feelings and they are definitely justified but I adore this film. Its one of the grimiest horror films out there and doesn't hold back. I watched this a lot growing up (My parents didn't care what I watched) so I guess I have some nostalgic bias.
I'm slowly making my way through the franchise. I finished this one last night and I actually liked this one a lot. I thought the tone was a good follow up to the remake and if I were to rank them right now it would be be 2nd just behind the remake for me. I still have to visit Leatherface and part 3 and revisit 3D and Next Generation. I take my time with these because depending how they are done, they can get under my skin. I liked these four characters more than I did some of others in the series and feel I will remember these 4. I see your point in how you feel it about it being lazy though and would have also liked the idea of seeing them take over the town. Never thought about the war stuff, but if being made to think about it, both Matt Bomer's character and the 'sheriff' both suffered from the brainwash of war. Sheriff being a POW, having not had any mental help coming from that probably helped turn him into this, and Matt Bomer kinda went through the same thing and they just became these things that two different war experiences made them. Neither of them regretted it but the outside people looking in could obviously see the detriment war caused to their mental health. Whereas Dean was a victim of circumstance, found his courage under pressure, and was forced into a war like situation anyway pretty much just showing that we have to fight no matter what in life. We can't run. We just have to choose what we fight for and how. That's probably way too deep for this movie, lol.
I honestly couldn’t remember anything about this movie until you started talking about it. I always forget this movie in the franchise XD more so than part three
I'm here because I rewatched this tonight. Best one of the franchise. What TCM should be IMO. I didn't get any incest vibes... Just cannibal vibes from them being crazy and dealing with everyone leaving the hometown. No movie is perfect. 1) Texas Chainsaw: the beginning 2) Texas Chainsaw: Jessica Biel(sorry she stole that movie..... Ntm, oohh la la) 3) Texas Chainsaw 1974 4) Texas Chainsaw last Generation (YEAH I SAID IT!) 5) Texas Chainsaw 2 (1986) Also about the "R" word. LOL ya know there was once a time people said dehumanizing words. I'm not saying people should use them, but I grew up in mid 2000s, and we used words like f****t and the "R" word..... It wasn't necessarily because someone actually was, it was just something the young crowd said when someone acted dumb as an insult. Remember this film took place in 1969, now back then they actually used the "R" word intentionally. They only said it like 2 or 3 times too. It's not like they used it 10 to 15 times throughout the whole movie... Good review though 👍
While this is my favorite entry in this franchise, this movie would have worked better had it came before the remake; also the subtitle I did find to be very misleading. There was not much of an orgin story at all. It barely even feels like a prequel to anything. I have not seen this movie in probably 10 years so I will have to revisit it. This being my favorite entry after watching your stellar overview on this I am now curious as to how I would react to it now. I also think I'm going to have to give in and watch the actual prequel Leatherface. When it comes to Michael Bay and horror The Purge franchise is probably his only good contribution. It is one of my favorite Horror/Action franchises. If you haven't checked those out I think they would kinda be right up your alley in terms of what the message is. Would like to hear your thoughts.
Is it wrong that I never found the R word offensive. I always found it hilarious when people would say it for comedic purposes. But the only time the R word offends me is when people say it towards people with autism or aspergers.
Awesome discussion, I agree with pretty much everything you said. The only thing I didn't like about Sheriff Hoyt was him being a perv while helping that girl with her injury. I appreciate that it wasn't torture p*rn. The gore was good, but not enough for it to cover the performances, Jordana B. upset me but not that much. I agree with you on the ending, it was surprising. This film had potential though. Do Texas 3D and Leatherface next, take care Kylie...
I liked the '03 reboot, wasn't a fan of the '06 prequel, but I think Andrew Bryniarski played a great Leatherface in both movies. Best since Gunnar Hansen, RIP to the Legend.
I commented on this video a couple months ago. Like this video, I've gone back and watched TCM The Beginning like 2-3 times. I was disappointed in the movie at first because I feel it had a great story, just shit execution. I still think the picture itself looks incredible, especially compared to other entries, lmao. But i really like the "revelation" you mentioned with the war commentary stuff. I feel that would've been interesting for the movie to touch on considering the original came out near the end / just after Vietnam, and this one was set during it. I also agree the idea of the Hewitt family being seen taking up parts of the town they're in would have been cool to see aswell.
I could hear you 24/7 ! I agree with some points however I do think the atmosphere on this movie is insane , the colours , how uncomfortable the characters are . I think the weakest point is that the movie rushes to put the characters into this family . The next 2 movies are trash LMAOO
Don't hate me for this, I know you might disagree with me, but this is my opinion. Michael Bay is one my top 10 favorite director's/producer's of all time. He knows how to make a great action movie.
I wasn’t really keen on this when it first came out. My opinion has increased over time. I still wouldn’t rate it too highly though. It is a favourite amongst fans though; it is probably the goriest entry in the franchise - which may account for it
Yo! This was some good content. 😂😂😂 Love that ending... ✌🏽"Peace!"✌🏽 How do you think you'd feel about this if they made it first and then the (2003) remake? I'm always kind of wishy washy about Beginning and Texas Chainsaw 3D... I think they're okay in their own ways... obviously this whole series has just been kind of a mess since the original though. Including myself, the community is just cursed (pun intended) with liking horror and enjoying all corners of the VAST genre so we put up with it. Anyways... ^sorry about the mini rant^ Hopefully you're well and get that allergy stuff under control. Please continue being yourself? You are such a blessing to us all. 💯💜🙏🏽
This is one of my least favorite movies in this unfortunate milked out franchise. Why call it the beginning if there is almost no back story, and the fact that Leatherface literally felt like a background character. It was so rushed and made no sense. Like you said, it was a lazy remake. They left us off with the amazing 2003 movie, interesting characters and family. So why the hell didn’t they make the family the main characters! Why wasn’t the movie about the family and how they became warped from crazy Hoyt! I’m sorry but there was absolutely no reason for there to be a plot about victims trying to get away. To me it felt like they really didn’t even have any motives, it was simply Leatherface was fired so let’s resort to eating people! They should’ve gone back farther, give some more information of the implied incest, or how horrible Leatherface was treated. I remember in the scene where they kill the biker Hoyt says something about the biker being one of the boys who bullied him at school. Why could’ve we see some scenes with Leatherface in school getting bullied so we can somewhat understand or feel slightly sorry for him? I don’t feel bad for him in this movie, nor did I in the 2003 one either. They didn’t set him up to be or even seem severely intellectually disabled other than he can’t talk. There’s no obvious abuse, he’s just a huge mute man with facial deformities who kills people without reaction. Even though I hated the group of young people i was glad when they fought back, I was hoping they would kill him like in the second movie I was rooting for the final girl. Because there is no reason to sympathize with Leatherface. I’m not comparing this Leatherface to the original at all, I’m just saying in the original they have many shots showing how he was treated so you could piece together why he is the way he is. Like when he grunts and goes sit by the window with his head in his hands, clearly he’s scared and confused and trying to protect his home because he knows no better. I mean the second was satire and that did a better job at having a reason to sympathize with LeatherFace. If you know what I’m trying to say. There’s none of that in this movie, it’s an empty shell, a cash grab and nothing more. It’s sad because it did have much potential, but it was obvious the produces and writers didn’t care. The acting was decent, gore was ok, but there’s nothing else going for this movie. I did like the ending although it was expected that no one would escape. As a girl I do disagree with your opinion about the women being objectified in the beginning, I didn’t get that vibe at all. And not to mention this movie is extremely boring and the only back story was for Hoyt let’s be honest here, even if it wasn’t much. Sorry I’m just really salty about this and love to dissect movies. And yes, chainsaw 3D is a hot fucking mess, a million times worse than this movie.
You don’t think the opening scene where we meet Dean and his girlfriend was blatant objectification? She did a little strip tease and started licking Dean in her bra and underwear lol. But by all means, I like when people leave long comments, usually makes for more interesting discussion so I don’t mind the saltiness hahah
The ending is really stupid, how could she not notice a giant guy with a chainsaw hiding in the backseat?
Yeah she asked for it not noticing it's a so so film I will say no one surviving was surprising that and the gore!!!
@@jdogjohnson9038 surprising? It's a prequel, off course none of them would survive.
@@takkat5102 somebody could've but didn't 2003 was better less gore but better!
