Love that thing! Did a fantastic job on it. Thanks for sharing! 👍🍻 I've got an Odyssey battery in my truck to handle 60A worth of air compressors, and had one in the ATV I recently sold to power heated grips, seat, and thumb throttle, plus a couple other electrical modifications. Great choice. This is exactly how I'd want my aircraft built.
It is truly the best zenith aircraft I have ever seen, in fact, one of the best homebuilt I have ever seen, tell Dave congrats. He needs to enter this beauty in contests (beauty or otherwise. Thanks for your video and all your endeavors.
Looking at the detail Dave put in to this project, shows absolute dedication and that attention to detail that is on par with Mike Patey and Draco. Fantastic job man. I'm not crazy about Zenith's fuselage shape BUT, if I went that route... it would totally be credited to this build.

Very enjoyable and informative. I had a 1966 Corvair way back when. A friend in the EAA chapter was building a plane with the Corvair. Anytime we were together, he'd want to sit in the car and rev the engine. It was a good engine. I had the car for 162,000 miles. Only had pushrod tube seal leaks, as they all did. I learned a lot about the Zenith and now have a new interest in it.
That is an amazing looking plane and looks a lot better than the Fox, I think he made a good decision. I would love to see the finished plane and see it fly. I hope you return when it is all done and flying, be good to see it in the air.
CONGRATS ON A BRILLIANT JOB AND YOUR INNOVATED IDEAS. Im going to copy your hinged fold down instrument panel made thicker on my 750 Cruzer which is approx 3 months into construction.
It made it to just about 95 hrs , then broke a crankshaft. So , not to be grounded long, I bought a higher HP Viking 130 and installed it. The Corvair setup has been pulled and now for sale

Very interesting video. I built a Sonex from plans, which was a really fun project. The 750 looks like a it might be a good candidate for my next build.
@David Clay If you are in fact a "Plans Builder" Zenith is also one of those few companies that still sell JUST the plans if you want to scratch build. In fact that is what I did ( a portion of it) . I bought the Tail Kit, scratch built the wings, then purchased the Fuselage Kit and Finish Kits. Building is so rewarding! Thank You for taking the time to watch!
Yeah.... that part of the wing on the leading edge, near the fuselage, just tried to bend mine over last night. I believe I will join the “fairing” club 😄
Dave, During the brake Shot of under the brake revisors. I noticed the Jan nuts were not tight. Just go ahead and tighten the jam nuts up. Other wise the shaft will spin out of the shaft.
Walter Rawdanik, If your referring to my comment on not liking the sound of a gear reduction unit.... Part of flying is enjoying the way a plane feels and sounds. I flew in two Rotex 912's and the Viking 130 Zenith Superstol with a Viking engine. Perhaps both Rotex engines i flew needed tuning, Neither gave me any enjoyment. One of those would not shut off once parked and the other sounded so rough , I asked if he needed to land. He said the duel carbs needed synched again. I asked to land , and I thanked him for the ride and donated to his fuel. The Viking engine, has a unique sound as well, But it does not make me nervous. It is a VERY quiet engine . If down the road I decide to swap engines, I will go with the Viking, Reduction gear and all. I find it to be impressive, and Viking has been very responsive to items i have purchased from them , as well as given me helpful advise with my current setup ( dual Battery Installation) :)
David Tillema it is your call of course but making a decision based on having an hour or so in plane with a particular engine is still essentially meaningless. Consider the fact that there are 50 000 Rotax engines out there and what ... 300-500 Viking installations and maybe 1000-2000 Corvair installations , no matter how many stories you read about people successfully flying behind a Viking for 1000 or so hours , it is still purely anecdotal evidence. I guess ,it depends what you are after , if being a test pilot is the type of thrill you are after, then sure - picking a conversion over Lycoming or Rotax to save a few thousand bucks makes certain sense.
@@walterrawdanik8077 Don't forget, the Builder spent a lot of time on Zenith and Builder Forums before making his choice of engines that he felt comfortable with, additionally, the essentially built (re-built) that engine. On another UA-cam Video, one Experimental Airplane builder reported that his Rotax 912 normally cruised with much higher RPM's than most comparable engines. Personally, that would have ruled out the Rotax engine as my choice for that airplane. It comes down to personal preference, not of playing the role of being a Test Pilot. We all have choices and we can change our minds as we go forward, if we so choose. Your comments are noted!

Hey @Peter Toth. Thank you for watching. The Cruzer has about a 40lbs baggage area directly behind the seats. Of course moving further AFT that weight limit would increase. I have scene or heard of people making supports in the tail cone for fishing poles however. Thank you for watching! I appreciate you!
With so many GOOD reduction drives available today I don't know why someone has not used the transmission side of these motors and keep the power high with High RPMs and the prop RPMs low to greatly improve thrust efficiency .
I would like to know how much does it cost to build one. I hear it took you 500 hrs but don't know the cost of acquiring the parts and tools to build the plane. if you can share that would be helpful in understanding if it is worth for others to venture into it. God bless you and I hope you are able to fight whatever it is that you are fighting against.
Easier to rent a paint booth for final paint with urethane paints. For some have a farm, or large property just buy a commercial paint booth find them used easily. Then buy a turbine fresh air paint system pumps air into your mask. That way Urethane paint fumes never get in your lungs. If I had property I would have a paint booth nice to have when you need to paint something get lot more paint on it using a spray gun and no flies or dirt.
The change was also on the horizontal stab and elevator. The 701 has that asymmetrical stabilizer but the 750 Cruze has a symmetric stabilizer. Think the idea was more speed (less inherit drag)
The Airframe I had built in aprox 450 hrs, even with redoing a few skins . If you want a brass tacks plane , don't add the paint or complicated avionics. Knowing what i know now, i think i could build a basic flying cruzer in less than half the time. This was my Dream, so i spared no expence to create it. 🤠👍✈
While viewing the brake jam Nuts, I noticed the jam nuts were not tight. those need to be snugged known. the reason is th shaft holding the rod end will loosen up. So just save youself hartakes and go ahead a tighten those jam nuts up.

wow. 3000 hours. i wonder how many of these go unfinished for decades. i want one, but i cant imagine spending that much time building one

I would never use that engine I remember from the days that we had one of those cars and that engine sucked. You better keep your eye on those valves.

How does the tinting on the windows work? I'm guessing its not so dark when inside looking out?
Like sunglasses. No issue except , no night flying .

70 knots seems like WAY too high of an approach speed for a plane like this.
