      I don't know if he ever met any of these mares personally. Maybe before his career. But artificial insemination means A. You can split up one "load" multiple times (and stud fee for Totilas (today) is 4000€, used to be 8000€) and B. less risk of injury.

    Horses can get hurt doing anything, Dressage is probably one of the most natural equestrian sports out there. Think about what a horse does when he/she runs around in a pasture and gets super excited. They round their neck, prance, spin around, gallop and then slows down. Those are all moves in Dressage, they just have to learn to do it on command. And Dressage riders can sit just about anything. They have the most control over their bodies then normal riders. They just make it look easy.

    To all those that say that this horse is being tortured, you're wrong. Totillas was bred to do dressage and the breed excels in dressage or other desired activities. If the horse wasn't having a good time, his owners or caregivers won't let him do dressage. In simple, this horse is just doing what he was born/bred to do.

  • @sitkarose1
    @sitkarose1 12 років тому +4

    Wouldn't surprise me. In the Equestrian world, Dressage is the highest demand sport. It's all about 100% perfection, one foot wrong your mark is damaged. So people are cruel to get the results they want.
    It's a beautiful, yet sometimes cruel, performance.

  • @lia_julee

    R.I.P. to one of the best Dressage horses to ever life.
    Totilas died in the evening of Monday the 14th December 2020.
    He was before he passed in a surgery treating a colic. According to the owners he woke up from the surgery and stood up but passed away not long after doing so.
    With 20 years he was way to young to die and the world of Dressage will from now on miss one of it's most beloved horses.
    There is one more star in the sky tonight.

      I´m not an ignorant Peta protester -.-" And this horse isn´t a horse with much fun on the field, but a horse with about 20 hours a day in his box and there is always a lead rope if he´s allowed to get out on fields. He can´t feel like a horse, because he was born to earn money for his owners. Sure, there are horses which have a worse life but that´s no excuse to ride a horse with rollkur or something like that.
      I don´t say his owner doesn´t care for him but I don´t think that a horse should have such a life. Fortunately his career is ended. I HOPE he may live like a horse now...!

    Even though Edward rode him in Rollkur, he was the only one that was able to bring out the best in him. And who ever understands dressage or even just horseriding can clearly see that Totilas enjoyed working. If he was being hurt or somehow stressed Edward would surely know it and stop. This horse will never be the same. No one can ride him like Edward did.

    Anybody who has ever seen a single kur from Totilas from his time with Edward Gal, knows that this horses LOVES his work. When he is done with the kur you can see him looking at the audience, his head proud up in the air as if saying: "Did you see me, wasn't I amazing?" The rollkur is a way of training, it makes him look more beautiful, gives him the ability to moves his feet better, gives Edward the ability to sit better en most of all does not hurt him. Dressage is not unnatural, people owning the horses in the first place is unnatural. When Totilas was hurt and couldn't work for a couple of months, while being in Germany, of course, he changed into a bored annoyed horse. So stop commenting on how bad this is when you know nothing about the right way to do it, like Sjef Janssen does.

      I think there are required breeds for this sport. If not... (Thinks of a pony or Clydesdale) hmm....
      The thing is that they aren't very popular in these sports, because the quarter horse wasn't specifically bred for this. And they don't have to be purebred by the way xD but I think if your horse isn't a purebred then there are specific things it has to be...I'm not to sure about that. But no one said quarter horses can't do this too xD

      unnatürlich... nein. Jegliche Dressur Figuren wurden bei den Hengsten in freier Wilbahn "abgeschaut"und teils leicht verändert. Die Art das Pferd die Übungen machen zu lassen ist falsch (bei Totilas sowieso (zu hartes Training und zu harte Mittel )) an der Kompetenz des Reiters Ansich beim Reiten selbst würde ich jetzt nicht zweifeln, da er schon einr ruhige Hand, tiefen Sitz und generell gute Führung hat. Das wäre jetzt meine Meinung dazu

      +Taekookeh ich reite englisch und arbeite auch mit meinem Pferd zusammen und frei... Kommt nicht auf den Reitstil an, sondern WIE man ihn reitet... Man kann Western auch scheiße reiten..

    • @taekookeh9177
      @taekookeh9177 8 років тому +2

      +Leoni Schnell natürlich arbeitet man bei englisch reiten auch mit dem Pferd zusammen, aber ich finde Western reiten...da kommt's unglaublich auf deine Ruhe an, da spielen die Zügel (nicht so wie beim englisch reiten) eigentlich gar keine Rolle, so gegen Null eigentlich. Und das mag ich daran so, beim englisch reiten kommt's mir immer so vor, dass man sich dem Pferd aufzwingt, weil so viel über die Zügel geht, klar kann man beim Western reiten dem Pferd auch ungerecht werden, aber ich finde, dass das bei weitem seltener vorkommt als beim Englisch reiten, vor allem bei Dressur eben.

    • @leonischnell2548
      @leonischnell2548 8 років тому +6

      +Taekookeh Dann komm in meinen Stall und vergleiche dort die Englischen Reiter mit den Western Leuten ;) Westernreiter mit mega Sporen, die ihre Pferde von Profis reiten lassen, weil sie selbst nichts können... Und ich weiß ja nicht, was du dir so vom englischen Reiten angeschaut hast, aber dass man nur am Zügel reitet ist ja so ein Unsinn! Ich reite weder mit Sperrriemen, noch mit Gerte oder Sporen und schon gar nicht nur mit den Zügeln. Es gibt halt immer die Reiter, die schlecht reiten, egal welcher Reitstil.

      look at this poor horse! just take a look at the dressage sport and see in which direction it is moving: animal abuse and show! a horse is an animal, it lives, it should be treated with respect and trust! I love dressage, but the old way of dressage, which exists to help and keep up the horse's health, build up trust and a partnership! the dressage was invented for the horse - not the other way around. every single exercise has a specific effect on the horse's body. in the dressage, actually in nearly all horse competitions (jumping, racing, western...) the hose doesn't count as a friend, it has to work. in this video i see an unhappy, stressed and sad horse with a lot of physical problems, tense muscles (especially in the shoulder, trapezius and hyoid bone...), problems in the neck, knees, lumbar vertebral column...
      people who don't know anything about horse welfare, biomechanics of horses, trust between horse and rider, a communication based on minimal body signals and the history of dressage (old classical dressage) like and praise this abuse. they wan't to see spectacular movements, but they don't want to see that with this way of "riding" (i would call it horse abuse) a horse is physically and psychologically harmed extremely! it makes me so sad and i feel the pain too, even if i look some seconds at such videos, i could cry. these are the reasons why i don't participate or even watch horse competitions. once, when i was a little girl -i had the dream of becoming a perfect dressage rider. now i know the truth about it, and yes i became a horse therapist and rehabilitation trainer, i use the old classical dressage (among other things) to help horses. i realized my dream, but for the horses and not the people! i can tell you, horses which are ridden like in this video and competition horses have the most problems, because they are trained in an unhealthy way. i would never call such a style "dressage", for me it has nothing to do with dressage. i work with horses because for the eyes of the horses and not people, who want to see a spectacular show.
      i wish that judges, trainers and riders would open their eyes, face it and change the horse sport in a partnership so that it can become a partnership, based in trust and respect, using the dressage exercises in a correct and healthy way.

    • @naffyfio5217
      @naffyfio5217 10 років тому +2

      Charlotte Lamb this horse has no chance to move seriously, this way of riding destroys the horse physically and mentally (as i explained before). it makes me cry. i hope and wish that the equestrian sport will change soon

    • @charlieyo2524
      @charlieyo2524 10 років тому

      Have you seen how pampered these horses are? Do you even watch vet calls? Have you looked at documentaries or even seen the stalls they are kept in? The training of the old ways is harsh, but they revised and fixed them. Yes, they used to use straps to pull the head down, but now they use different techniques like a martingale and such.

      Emily Spies Why does everyone say that it is not abuse nor are they being forced to a horses ears become pinned back and refuse to move and will buck this horse has a close relationship with the rider trust me from experience if a horse don't want to to do something like this it is not going to do it

    • @kellyandhorses6261
      @kellyandhorses6261 8 років тому +1

      AmberDaBest Hardt 😂😂😂😂 of course this horse is forced! It's in a double bridle and Pelham for Christ sake. If it wanted to do it then there would be no need for the double bridle and Spurs now would there? The horse would simply perform the dressage test in a neck rope. This horse is far too over bent at many points in the test, totilas was also known to be trained using rolkur techniques. This horse is being forced, simple as. If that horse wasn't so contained by the bridle then I'm sure it would throw a buck or two, but at the moment it can barely see Infront of it. You can see at the end how the horse stretches it's neck, that's clearly it's preferred way of going, the rider is FORCING the horses head into an over bent position.
