If you're trying to listen to the audio on your computer(?), you'll need to go into the OBS "Audio Mixer," click on the little gear icon, "Advanced Audio Properties," and change the "Audio Monitoring" option to "Monitor and Output."
I got the HDs 60 & it won’t work on my M1 iMac 😣, it just says “ One moments please “, the guy on customer support told me I have to get the HD60 S+, is that true ?
I have HD60 S+ coming from my one PC, that I play on.... hooked to my other PC that runs my 4K capture. All is hooked up and got all sounds etc etc. Except when I just use the ELgato 4K Utility to record my game play.... the game is so loud... and my mic is so low..... SO I caN Reduce the game sound in the game itself, but even low it still over powers my Mic..... so my question is...... Is there a way in the 4K Utility somewhere where I can manually adjust the volumes using just the 4k capture utility?? Or do i have to use OBS or some other capture device? I am not streaming just recording to other PC
It is possible; you would have to use the monitor to preview the Game Capture on your PC. However, there is a very slight delay so if you're playing something that needs really fast response time, it might be a bit difficult. But for simple games, it is possible.
Hmmm, there could be a few different things? Depending on what you're trying to record, you may need to go into your console settings and adjust for the Game Capture. As I mentioned in this video, Playstation consoles have an HDCP setting that you need to disable to use with the Game Capture. It could also be the computer that you're using? However, I looked up the specs and it seems that the laptop you have should be able to use the Game Capture?
Few questions. Question 1 - If I wanted to use a DSLR external camera and Mic do I keep the video game audio on mute and will it still record the audio? Question 2 - If I wanted to use a USB Camera and let's say a Blue Yeti would that work? MY daughter wanted me to set this up for her so that she can capture screen play for her switch to put on her youtube channel.
#1: Not sure if you already have the DSLR connected to your computer. But if not, you're probably going to want something like the Elgato Cam Link ($130USD) which lets you use a DSLR as a webcam. #2: You could use a USB camera and a Blue Yeti as well. In both of these situations, you should keep the game audio on but at a lower volume than the microphone audio; so that you can hear the microphone as well as the game. Also, it may be worth it to look into using OBS. There are a bunch of tutorials on UA-cam about the basics of OBS which might be worth checking out as well.
@@AutoBotcity1978 Hmm, the Macbook Air might be tricky just because I'm not sure it'll be powerful enough to handle multiple HD inputs? But, I think it's worth testing it out. I would say 16-inch Macbook (Pro, I'm guessing?) might be the best bet. Regardless, OBS should work fine on either of these machines.
@@ChaseYama Perfect. We Actually were able to get it done on her M1 chip air as it's pretty spec'd out. I will need to figure out how to get the volume of the game compared to the volume of her voice, I set it to every time she speaks the volume of the music drops and man let me tell you trying to Edit that all at the same time was a pain. Might have to do an external recorder just for her vocals but if you don't mind ua-cam.com/video/J2a-6GkYSHA/v-deo.html that's the video.
@@AutoBotcity1978 Very nice! Yeah, I will say that if you’re comfortable with editing software, you get way more options when you record mic audio separately from game audio since you can adjust the audio as you like. Granted, it does take a lot more work as you mentioned.

To sum up my obs Link does not work when I select the hd60S game capture but the NDI source works when I deactivate the hd60s I do not understand at all. I have a question, is the mac adapter a usb 3.0 because maybe it came from there but I don't know if that makes any difference since I am picking up the signal on the game capture hd app. Thanks man
@elgato i wanna buy elgato hd60s plus but my tv supports Dolby vision and Dolby Atmos and HDR 10+ and auto low latency but if connect elgato hd60s plus between my tv and my xbox series x then all my tv features will still work in my xbox series x ???
Do you need the TV connected to the OUT port for the Video Capture Device to work OR can you leave it un-plugged and still record your gaming through OSB Capture Software?? Thanks
It is recommended that you plug a TV/monitor into the output since it will give you the least amount of lag. But, you can technically still record while playing from the computer; however there will be a very slight delay.
Whenever I open game capture hd to record me playing a game on my macbook air, I only seem to get my macs wallpaper and menu bar at the top of the screen. I've tried everything but I don't know how to fix it.
i got the elgato hd60 but it dosent show up on the elgato software, it says connect your capture device to get started but every thing is plugged in properly to my xbox series x, monitor and laptop. it says in obs when i go to add a video capture device that its there but dosent show the xbox capture on the screen. was wondering if you know what to do?
Hi, thank you for the video! We have a question we got a MacBook Pro and it shows up connect your capture device to get started. We use usb c adapter from apple which should be able to handle the speed and gb transfer (5gb) but still no image. Everything is up to date could you help us please?
Thanks for watching! For whatever reason, I’ve found that you have to use the included with the Elgato Game Capture device. I don’t know exactly why, but it seems only the included USB-C to USB 3.0 is compatible with the Game Capture (I don’t think the transfer speeds are the issue?). The only workaround that I’ve found works is getting a USB-C to USB 3.0 dongle/hub to plug into the Macook.
So since i have a pc and a single monitor. Should I have 2 HDMI cables for my Xbox so 1 can go towards my tv and the other goes towards my elgato capture card? Because I don't know if I'll be able to see my pc apps on my monitord if i just connect my xbox to my elgato.
It's highly recommended to use 2 monitors, but you can technically use one monitor. If you are only using one monitor, you would use 1 HDMI cable to connect the Xbox to the Game Capture. Then, connect the USB cable to your PC. You can technically use your PC monitor as a preview window for your gameplay; however there may be a very slight delay.
Thank you so much for showing me that I had this set up wrong. LOL. I have one question. I am recording from my switch to my macbook pro. everything seems fine until i try to move the file to imovie or open it to view. Keep getting an error message... The document "ACNH.m4v" could not be opened. iMovie cannot open filies in the "Apple MPEG-4 movie" format. I have googled every which way I can and after two days I'm at a loss on what to do. Any advice would be really appreciated. Thanks so much for making this video. Now all of my cords are rights and I can see my switch on the screen!
I've rewatched your video a couple of times. Now wondering if it's my usb hub that maybe it's too old. I'll buy a new one today and see if that helps. Thanks again for all the info!
Hi, this shouldn't actually be an issue with the USB hub. Instead, it's probably an issue with the software. I'm not too sure how to change the file format from the Game Capture HD software? What you may need to do is open up the video in Quicktime Player and click File --> Export and then Export it to a different format. It's a bit annoying, but I honestly don't really know how to change the file format from the Game Capture HD software.
If I have an iPhone I’m using for my gaming device do you know how to make my screen not black when I pull up the video capture device? It keeps showing up as a black screen
Hmm, I'm guessing you're connecting the iPhone with an HDMI cable? I found this video from Elgato themselves that might be helpful: ua-cam.com/video/Oxv3HskB0Mw/v-deo.html If none of it works, what you can also try out is: • Connect your iPhone to your Mac with the Lightning cable, • Open Quicktime Player on your Mac, • Select "File" --> "New Movie Recording," • Click the arrow next to the red record button and select "iPhone" under Camera Settings (You can also select iPhone under Microphone Settings if you want to record the sound from the iPhone)
@@ChaseYama hey! Thank you so much for replying! I ended up reaching out to a few friends and turns out you have to have an iPhone charger also connected to the iPhone hdmi converter thing 😂
I'm obviously over a year late to this video. I've been wanting to do this with my macbook air 2020, i have a usb c adapter hub which plugs into the two usb C ports on left side of the macbook - Will this still work with the macbook air if i plug the adapter hub into the side of the macbook and usb into the hub, Thank you
I want confirmation that this would work before spending over €250 on this as I'm coming from a very cheap €10 then moved to a two hdmi capture card thing which was like €20
Feel free to check out this page on the Elgato support for more info about compatibility with M1 Macs: help.elgato.com/hc/en-us/articles/360052527791-Apple-Silicon-Compatibility-M1-Chip- It seems that you will need to get the Elgato HD60S +, since the HD60S is NOT yet compatible with M1 Macs. Also worth noting; it seems that the Game Capture HD software is not yet compatible with M1 Macs, so you will need to use third-party software such as Quicktime Player or OBS. The HD60S + should work with a USB hub. However, I don't want to say for certain since sometimes USB hubs aren't high enough quality to work with the HD60S + for whatever reason. But ideally, yes the HD60S + would work with the 2020 Macbook Air with a USB hub. I also have an updated much more in-depth setup tutorial for the Elgato Game Capture HD60S + with Mac, which you can find here: ua-cam.com/video/3MIMkSJPq94/v-deo.html
Funny, I had this same issue! Changing the color range from Expanded to Standard can help. Also you may have to mess with the brightness, contrast, and saturation to see what looks better for you.
is there a way to bypass the usb 3? my new MacBook Pro has no usb slots. only 2 type c ports and 1 headphone jack. my game capture window says I need usb 3. I think it's funny how it requires this when the package comes with a cord that is type c on both ends
Hmm, it actually doesn't seem like the HD60 S+ comes with a USB-C to USB-C cable? It comes with a USB-C to USB 3.0 cable. So most likely, the cable you're using isn't a powerful enough cable; because there are many different kinds of USB-C cables. My best advice is to get a USB-C to USB 3.0 dongle/hub for your Macbook and use the included USB-C to USB 3.0 cable. And honestly, it's really nice to have some sort of hub for your Macbook.
You can technically play off of your computer monitor. However, keep in mind that there will be a tiny bit of delay. So it is possible but it's much more recommended to use a second monitor/TV.
Yes, you are going to need two monitors or a monitor and a TV. Alternatively, you can play using the capture window on your computer monitor however that will have a very slight delay.
any guidance you can provide about stream command? Essentially using the Mac camera so people can see you while streaming? Keeps trying to grab an Apple TV source Update: In case anyone else is trying to figure it out... go to "add overlay" next to the stream command options (should be a + in a little screen) then select your FaceTime camera. Will automatically set for any overlay you choose afterwards
Hi Chase, quick question. I'm running into the issue where it's not connecting to my computer. I'm placing the in to my Xbox One S and the USB to my computer. Here is where I'm having to problem. There is an HDMI hooked to my xbox to my tv. Am I taking that that HMDI cable, unplugging it from my Xbox and into the Elgato? I've tried this and several other variations it its not working?
Hi, The cable setup should go: Xbox -> HDMI -> Elgato -> HDMI -> TV If that makes sense? So one HDMI cable goes from the Xbox OUTPUT to the Elgato INPUT, then another HDMI cable goes from the Elgato OUTPUT to the TV INPUT
This was very helpful. Unfortunately I don't see anything on my tv, just on my Macbook Pro. I'm able to play and record on my laptop but nothing comes out on my TV. Any idea what could be wrong? Otherwise I'm going to use it like that.

Cant capture ps4 audio, all it wants to do is capture my pc audio!! Tried heaps of stuff. Works fine when I plug the USB into my lap top but would much rather record using my PC
Hey bro, do you know if I can transfer the screen from my Mac to a pc and stream from the pc?
Great video everything works but the audio in obs do you know why? I’m using my Xbox series x and I have an audio bar but no sound output on my computer
If you're trying to listen to the audio on your computer(?), you'll need to go into the OBS "Audio Mixer," click on the little gear icon, "Advanced Audio Properties," and change the "Audio Monitoring" option to "Monitor and Output."
Can u connect the hdmi in/out to a AVR so that all the hdmi connected to the AVR can use the elgato?
Sir plz make a video on dual-pc setup... it's very confusing ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️i love your videos
I recently bought a Elgato HD60 S+ but only own 1 monitor on my PC. Can I stream by making my PC monitor the main monitor for both the Switch & PC?
It is possible; you would have to use the monitor to preview the Game Capture on your PC. However, there is a very slight delay so if you're playing something that needs really fast response time, it might be a bit difficult. But for simple games, it is possible.
No picture at all for me, i have a x360 hewlett-packard. Did i miss a step or need something else?
@@ChaseYama I'll be running this from either my daughter's M1 2020 air or my 16inch intel 2019 mac.
OBS will work with this without any issues?
I have a 2015 Mac and it doesn’t support the elgato hd60 s plus, it lags really bad, but he said a Mac that came out 4 or 5 years ago of making of this video should work, am I doing something wrong ?
My elgato doesnt show up for obs help!
Awesome video bro!!
Thank you!
Question, I have a 2020 MacBook Pro, Xbox One X, PS4 & PS5. My MacBook has the USB-C ports only so what would you recommend..?
I would recommend getting a USB-C hub/dongle for your Macbook. It's honestly good to have one even if not for the Elgato.
When I try to record my gameplay in the game capture hd thing, it records in slow mo, any way to fix it??
Hey where do your videos go when ur hit stop recording and how do u send it to other people so they can see it and edit it also?
You can check your recording location by clicking the settings icon in the top right. By default, it should be User -> Movies -> Game Capture HD Library
hello i have a problem, i am trying to stream with my elgato hd60 s on mac big sur, so as explain in your video i have download obs link to use ndi source on obs streamlabs. Being done I detect the NDI source but I do not perceive any signal from my elgato and obs Links only works when I do not select my elgato in the NDI source. So no way to find the source of the elgato. I've spent my whole evening trying various things, nothing changes I've also tried on obs studio and it does the same to me. Thanks man
If I have the Xbox series x and a 120hz monitor, can I record in 60 fps?
@elgato i wanna buy elgato hd60s plus but my tv supports Dolby vision and Dolby Atmos and HDR 10+ and auto low latency but if connect elgato hd60s plus between my tv and my xbox series x then all my tv features will still work in my xbox series x ???
Dude this helped me so much I tried so many different ways to get HD60S with Ps4 to my MacBook Pro. I wish I found your vid earlier! Thank you!!!!
Thanks for watching!
Screen link won’t move like it ain’t picking up my ps4 help
Whenever I open game capture hd to record me playing a game on my macbook air, I only seem to get my macs wallpaper and menu bar at the top of the screen. I've tried everything but I don't know how to fix it.
i got the elgato hd60 but it dosent show up on the elgato software, it says connect your capture device to get started but every thing is plugged in properly to my xbox series x, monitor and laptop. it says in obs when i go to add a video capture device that its there but dosent show the xbox capture on the screen. was wondering if you know what to do?
Maybe make sure that you're plugging the Elgato into a USB 3.0 port?
question i got the 4k one how didnt i get the HD one
CHASE I NEED HELP WITH IPHONE 13 PRO MAX SETUP OF ELGATO GAME CAPTURE I AM UNABLE TO GET 1080P OUTPUT I HAVE ALL COMPONENTS REPLY ASAP NEED HELP
@@ChaseYama thanks we found out the issue, you need to change the device input settings select de correct 60+
Will this work with an iPad Pro with the m1 chip?
Unfortunately, the Elgato Game Capture does not work with tablets, only computers.
Thanks so much i want to start streaming and you helped me out
Can i use a hdmi to displayport cable?
I found this video from Elgato themselves that might be helpful: ua-cam.com/video/Oxv3HskB0Mw/v-deo.html
If none of it works, what you can also try out is:
• Connect your iPhone to your Mac with the Lightning cable,
• Open Quicktime Player on your Mac,
• Select "File" --> "New Movie Recording,"
• Click the arrow next to the red record button and select "iPhone" under Camera Settings (You can also select iPhone under Microphone Settings if you want to record the sound from the iPhone)
@@ChaseYama hey! Thank you so much for replying! I ended up reaching out to a few friends and turns out you have to have an iPhone charger also connected to the iPhone hdmi converter thing 😂
@@regal222 Nice, I'm glad you were able to figure that out!
I said it up and I did everything that you told me to but the sound won’t come out my game?
I'm obviously over a year late to this video. I've been wanting to do this with my macbook air 2020, i have a usb c adapter hub which plugs into the two usb C ports on left side of the macbook - Will this still work with the macbook air if i plug the adapter hub into the side of the macbook and usb into the hub, Thank you
I want confirmation that this would work before spending over €250 on this as I'm coming from a very cheap €10 then moved to a two hdmi capture card thing which was like €20
Feel free to check out this page on the Elgato support for more info about compatibility with M1 Macs:
help.elgato.com/hc/en-us/articles/360052527791-Apple-Silicon-Compatibility-M1-Chip-
It seems that you will need to get the Elgato HD60S +, since the HD60S is NOT yet compatible with M1 Macs.
I also have an updated much more in-depth setup tutorial for the Elgato Game Capture HD60S + with Mac, which you can find here:
ua-cam.com/video/3MIMkSJPq94/v-deo.html
What settings would you recommend so that the gameplay doesn't look dull?
@@ChaseYama you’re right. I have too many wires laying around and got it mixed up
I have a pc and a switch, i would need 2 monitors or can i just play off the monitor i use for my pc
You can technically play off of your computer monitor. However, keep in mind that there will be a tiny bit of delay. So it is possible but it's much more recommended to use a second monitor/TV.
Everytime i get done recording i try to edit my videos and my screen is black
Thank you so much...we couldn't figure out WHY it wasn't working with our PS4, but you saved us from hours of insanity...thank you!!
Thank you for watching!
Can’t you not use elgato hd60 s+ on the game capture program no more?
So do you need two TVs or two monitors or something ?? How do I get on my computer while the Xbox HDMI is in the monitor And there’s only one port
Yes, you are going to need two monitors or a monitor and a TV. Alternatively, you can play using the capture window on your computer monitor however that will have a very slight delay.
@@ChaseYama Ahhh ok I see, thanks brotha 🙏🏽💯
I have the same device but it never appears on my macbook even after trying several times. i have been forced to switch to pc.
I have black screen with OBS how do i surpass that?? pls answer
any guidance you can provide about stream command? Essentially using the Mac camera so people can see you while streaming? Keeps trying to grab an Apple TV source
Update: In case anyone else is trying to figure it out... go to "add overlay" next to the stream command options (should be a + in a little screen) then select your FaceTime camera. Will automatically set for any overlay you choose afterwards
Sorry for the late reply. Glad you figured it out!
Hi,
The cable setup should go:
Xbox -> HDMI -> Elgato -> HDMI -> TV
If that makes sense?
So one HDMI cable goes from the Xbox OUTPUT to the Elgato INPUT, then another HDMI cable goes from the Elgato OUTPUT to the TV INPUT
@@ChaseYama you are a savior! It worked!
@@KristinaMancino Glad to hear!
This was very helpful. Unfortunately I don't see anything on my tv, just on my Macbook Pro. I'm able to play and record on my laptop but nothing comes out on my TV. Any idea what could be wrong? Otherwise I'm going to use it like that.
Thanks for watching! I'm guessing you have the HDMI cable plugged in from the Game Capture to the TV? Also, have you checked the different inputs on your TV?
I set everything up the right way but still my stuff never just can work.
Hi mate I have imac 21.5 late 2015 my elgato game capture HD60s doesn't shows on my OBs and streamlabs. Do you know why?
If you're using the HD60S with a Mac, you're going to need to download the OBS Link software from Elgato's website:
www.elgato.com/en/downloads
