    Day 26
    Fantastic pick Pete.
    My pick for today is:
    The Doors
    “Debut album”
The Doors are a favorite band of mine. I’ve been listening to them since they came out in the late 60s. This album was recorded in 1966. It has there breaking though single on it “Light My Fire”. This album has a wide range of musical influences such as jazz, classical, blues, pop, and rock music and a source of inspiration to numerous other works. Morrison was a wonderful songwriter and Singer for this band. The song “The End” was used in a movie “Apocalypse Now”. This song is a little different from the original song made specifically for this movie. They also had trouble with their song “Light My Fire” on the Ed Sullivan show and they were unable to come back to preform again on this show due to not changing the lyrics to this song. It’s a shame that Morrison killed him self from over drinking in the early 70s.

My pick for today is Buddy Holly - Rocks (1985). Compilation of 32 tracks on a double vinyl. It´s amazing how someone who passed away at barely 22 left us such a legacy. His influence on future generations is awe-inspiring. From all the fifties rock and rollers I think he would have been best evolved to face the hippie era. I can picture him with long hair and his inseperable glasses. He was a talented songwriter aswell as a brilliant interpreter. So many classics on here: ´That´ll Be The Day´ ´ Not Fade Away´ ´Peggy Sue´ ´Oh Boy´ ´I´m Gonna Love You Too´ ´ It´s So Easy´ and I love his vibrant coverversion of Chuck Berry´s ´Brown Eyed Handsome Man´

No. 26. Bruce Springsteen - Born To Run. 😃👍. Third studio album released in 1975. For me, this is the premier American rock album from 1970s that can be blasted all summer long. This landmark album never gets old. 🔥. With a rousing Phil Spector-style ‘wall of sound’ treatment, with brass instruments creating muscle and subtle beauty, with big American myths and American working class desperation themes, this album provides the listener with an unforgettable journey of broken dreams and the chance for redemption. Bruce Springsteen created a grand epic masterpiece with the superb work of the E Street Band playing lights out. Great road trip album, but crank it all summer long! ☀. Rock Always! - Heather

Hi everyone, well, my summer listening certainly seems to be nestling into a pattern of various strands of upbeat, melodic, singalong hard rock, and my pick today is the dictionary definition of those things. It's the debut album by an American band and it was given quite a lot of promotion at the time, although ultimately, mainstream success was to elude them. Familiar tale...
TYKETTO "Don't Come Easy" (Geffen, 1991)
Another band unfairly lumped in with the hair metal movement, Tyketto (they saw the word graffited on a wall in Brooklyn and just thought it sounded cool) was the band put together by singer Danny Vaughn after his brief but ear-catching stint in WAYSTED, and also featured Brooke St James on guitars, Jimi Kennedy on bass and Michael Clayton on drums.
The album was a belting set of melodic hard rock, with a nod in the direction of the heavier end of the AOR spectrum and with a bluesy aftertaste that brought comparisons to the likes of latter day Whitesnake (with whom they toured), but - and this may be controversial - I'd take this over 1987, if I was forced to choose between them...
Opening with Forever Young is a statement indeed, and this got quite a lot of promotion on its release, quite rightly. Wings follows, and it's already clear that these guys have an ear for a hook . Burning Down Inside might just be my favourite song on the album, Seasons isn't far behind, and Standing Alone ain't too shabby either- and that's just halfway!
Lay Your Body Down, Walk On Fire and Strip Me Down are the highlights of the second half, although Nothing But Love and album closer Sail Away would be highlights on a lot of other albums!
Follow up Strength In Numbers fared less well, but that's not to say it's a bad album, but their momentum stalled when Vaughn was forced to leave when his wife fell ill and the album they put out with Steve Augeri, "Shine" saw a shift in sound that alienated a lot of their fanbase, myself included at the time but listened to in isolation it's actually pretty good, just very different.
After that, the band has continued to exist, on and off, Vaughn having returned to the fold, and they put out a couple more pretty good studio albums - Dig In Deep and Reach - and a handful of live albums with Vaughn the only constant from the original line up.
If you're new to Tyketto, then start at the very beginning, with Don't Come Easy, perfect summer listening...
    ***IMPORTANT NOTICE!!!***
Off on my summer hols for 10 days so apologies in advance if I'm late posting or replying/reacting to anybody's posts.

Sweltering, swampy metal straight from the Louisiana Bayou. Phil Anselmo, Pepper Keenan, and Kirk Windstein unite forces and continue to break new sonic ground. The grooves on this one are killer, which fit working in the yard for me. Temptation's Wings, Eyes of the South, Stone the Crow, and Bury Me in Smoke are my favorite tracks from this one.

Hi Pete. Dave here. Love the Doobies and went with Stampede a few days ago. As the Summer Olympics start today in Paris, I'm going with THE 2ND LAW by MUSE, from which the track Survival was the theme song to London 2012. Takes me back to those games, in my home city, and attending many events. Survival is bombastic prog-metal and is perhaps a surprising choice for theme song, but I've always loved it, and the band performed a rip-roaring version live at the closing ceremony.

    DAY 26 -MOB RULES-Hollowed Be Thy Name(2002)
Mob Rules are a German power metal band. They were founded in 1994 by erstwhile Van Blanc guitarist Matthias Mineur and bassist Thorsten Plorin. Pulling in vocalist Klaus Dirks and drummer Arved Mannott, the quartet began to gig. Opening slots included shows with Pink Cream 69, C.I.T.A. and Crossroads.
During the spring of 1996, Mob Rules added second guitarist Oliver Fuhlhage and a self-financed mini album prompted a deal with Limb Music Productions for the March 1999 Savage Land. The reaction in Europe was encouraging and the band toured Germany on a co-headline jaunt with Ivory Tower. Other shows witnessed valuable support slots to Overkill and Scorpions as well as an appearance at the Wacken Open Air festival in 2000.
In 2000, the band released their second album Temple of Two Suns, Thomas Rettke of Heavens Gate and Susanne Möhle of Heavens Gate and Hyperchild providing backing vocals. Live work had the band crossing Europe in 2001 with Company of Snakes.
Mob Rules then returned to live action during July 2002 acting as support to Savatage, topping this activity off with an appearance at the Wacken Open Air festival. The band's third album arrived in September 2002 Hollowed Be Thy Name. Guests include Peavy Wagner of Rage on the track "How the Gypsy Was Born" and ex-Helloween guitarist Roland Grapow on both "All Above the Atmosphere" and "Way of the World".

The album is an exceptional album and have it on CD so I can take it out for summer or any season listening, I got it at record show in the early 2000s. A 2002 cd so guess is maybe in 03 or 04 And love it to bring out and play it. as the piano and keys starts the title track as the first song with vocal and then the guitars bass and drums and with the vocals its a killer track and a highlight track. And then heavy Speed Of Life a highlight. In The Land Of Wind And Rain a highlight. House On Fire. a highlight. Ghost Town, How The Gypsy Was Born a highlight. Lord Of Madness and Way Of The World. a highlight. And the short pieces placed fine in the album I give a 4,5-5 so I do recommend as one of the finest killer power metal albums one should have. Even if they didn't do any other albums. As they have so there are some others that are real good, I could and say this tops the list for sure. Sure would love to see the group. Have a great day today and be well and a fine weekend as well. talk to you later friends and big hugs.🎶🎶💖

Discovered the Lovell sisters Rebecca guitars and lead vocals and Megan lap steel and harmony vocals on UA-cam playing and being interviewed at a radio

made for laid back outdoor summer get-togethers with drinks, bbq and friends! favorite songs are Deep Stays Down, Bad Spell, Georgia Off My Mind, Southern
Comfort, Kick The Blues and The title track. My personal favorites are the blues-y ballad Might As Well Be Me and the foot stomping Summertime Sunset!

They're amazingly talented, haven't heard something that good, maybe since I discovered New Soul Cowboys ten years ago. Thanks Drew! I've started watching their 2023 Rockpalast show, it's a blast!

Good morning (afternoon, evening or night), Pete. Outstanding selection today though, yes, not unexpected. Doobies - the band that is - great for the summer. Personal pick today? The fifth studio album by this English musician released in May 1972 on the Uni label, the outstanding Honky Chateau by Elton John. The first of Sir Elton's U.S. chart topping albums which continued on a streak until - if memory serves - Rock Of The Westies. When not playing Thick As Brick in the summer of '72 [my pick yesterday], this was likely the other album being played. The singles were opener and closer of side one of the LP - Honky Cat and Rocket Man (I Think It's Going To Be A Long, Long Time). A step away from the orchestrations of the previous album and not quite as pop as the follow-up [both of which are also great in their own right]. Picking this because it is mostly pulled in the summer now. Not because it's lost its charm but due to the fact the album is one of those clearly filed in my memory. Learned to play all these songs at one time or another and some of Elton's best work highlighting the piano. Charted in 10 charts back in '72-73 hitting #1 in the US and #2 in the UK. No longer my favorite only due to personal overplaying of this album for years but still always a welcomed listen. Thanks, Pete. Looking forward to your next choice.

Great choice there with Honky Château. Not my favourite of his l must say, but probably more of a 'summer' listen than perhaps Tumbleweed or Madman. Goodbye Yellow Brick Road is another summer listen which I've suggested earlier in the month. Going back to Honky Château there is an often mentioned song, Mona Lisas and Mad Hatters which l must admit I've never really found that great, Amy and Hercules far better songs for me, but rarely mentioned.

    26) Guns 'N' Roses - Appetite For Destruction
The release of Appetite For Destruction in July 1987 was one of those rare times when the stars aligned perfectly and the sleazy underbelly of Hollywood spawned a true monster. The melding of Axl Rose's incredible sirenesque vocals with the double-barrelled axe attack of Slash and Izzy Stradlin is just devastating.
And the songs? Utter perfection one after the other. "Welcome To The Jungle" just may be the greatest opening clarion call in all of Rock's long history. It is deadly vicious in just the way great Rock 'N' Roll should be. "It's So Easy" doesn't ease the pressure one bit, it keeps you right in the chokehold. As does the wonderfully dirty "Nightrain". "Mr. Brownstone" is a down 'n' dirty jam that would make Keith Richards green with envy.
And then G 'N' E hits you with the masterpiece, the epic "Paradise City", one of the most towering songs in Rock history. Then, after you've been beaten into submission by Side One, Side Two hits you full force with the incredible "Sweet Child 'O Mine", which rides to glory on the wings of the greatest wah-wah guitar since Clapton quit Cream. And as if that wasn't enough, the album ends with another epic in "Rocket Queen".
Appetite For Destruction is the album that made Guns 'N' Roses the band that everyone could agree on (at least for a little while). Both the mainstream and the hardcore could love this album. It was a breath of fresh air at a time and worked as a bridge between '80s excess and the darker, more confessional Alternative music to come. The sound was closer to bluesy Aerosmith and Rolling Stones Hard Rock than it was to more complex Metal of other bands.
Guns 'N' Roses experienced the same seedy L.A. Rock scene that many other bands saw, but turned it into a great album that has stood the test of time. I can listen to it a million times and still dig it.
    Favorite Tracks:

Eric's husky soulful voice sounds great over this exquisite set of melidic, hook laden hard rock pop songs. Queen-News Of The World. Due to not being able to properly perform songs like Bohemian Rhapsody live due to the various overdubs, Queen streamlined their sound a bit. This was produced by the band with the assistance of engineer Mike Stone, and recorded at Basing Street Studios(formerly Island Studio). You got anthematic songs like We Will Rock You and We Are The Champions. Sheer Heart Attack, which was written by drummer Roger Taylor, was the answer to Punk. You even had the lyric "I feel so inarticulate", which would seem to call out the punks for lack of talent. It's interesting that Roger played bass and rhythm guitar on his two songs(the other being the side one closer Fight From The Inside). The Brian May written and sung ballad All Dead All Dead was written for his then recently deceased cat. Bassist John Deacon wrote the ballad Spread Your Wings. Freddie's Get Down Make Love has a psychedelic middle. The bluesy Sleeping On The Sidewalk was also written and sung by Brian. It was written from an American perspective(just listen to the lyrics). John Deacon's Who Needs You (which features him and Brian playing acoustic guitars, Brian May on maracas, and Freddie on cowball) has a tropical feel. The rocker It's Late features tapping on the solo by Brian May one year before Eddie Van Halen burst on the scene. The album ends with the ballroom-flavored My Melancholy Blues.
