My great-grandfather's parents were from Bavaria, they moved to Pike County, Ohio around 1840. He was a dairy farmer also.
At 10:55 for people that don't know. She is measuring the butter out into 1 lb. measurements, and then stamping it to sell. My grandma used to do this when my grandpa had a dairy farm.
The skills these farmers had to make products at home and using some basic tools to harvest their hay and take care of their animals makes one really respect their ability to survive. Much like parts of America from 1900 to 1940 when electricity and automobiles arrived and other labor saving equipment helped make farming a little easier, wonderful piece of history.
People were so much healthier in those days. Fresh milk. No pollution. Hard work. People lost a lot with initialization.
I grew up on a farm much similar.now everything has changed.for the worse
Hard working women! Beautiful. What are those hats the cows are wearing at the end? So cute.

Im glad to have a cart for my hay bales. Cant image ne carrying on my back!
just think of what you can do during this time, yodel in the hills, you can actually drink the water out of the rivers and lakes, and if you knew the future bail out of there before 1940
