  • Just now, three months later, realizing I never actually uploaded this haha. Throwback to when we were all young and pale!
I meant to do a vlog series throughout the whole summer, but I kept forgetting to film after week one because everything was so busy all of the time. Oh well, maybe next year :)

You should make a video on how you keep your woodwind chops over a drum corps season

Basically I bring my clarinet with me and tell myself that I’m going to practice regularly, then I only play 3ish times over the course of the summer because there’s absolutely no time to haha. Just a couple short practice sessions are better than none at all.

When you came back and you started playing clari regularly again, were your chops just gone? Like did you become not as good at it? I want to march next summer but I’m going to school for music Ed with clari as my main so I can’t lose my chops. I’m currently learning mello to march

Angie Piracha when I get back it takes a week or two of grind to get my chops back to about where they were when I left. Lots of long tones and basics will help, and being patient with yourself. I will also be a music Ed major, and personally I believe the educational experience of drum corps far outweighs the slight chop setback you have to deal with in August. Drum corps had made me a miles better musician and had prepared me to teach diverse students, and those are experiences that you just can’t get anywhere else.

That’s awesome to hear. I was having some doubts but your situation turned them around :)

How old is Dylan and what does he do for the corps?

Hunter Alexander I think Dylan was 20, and she played baritone :)
