The big one is a Yamaha CS80. They are very very rare and highly sought after for that sweeping sound. Aurturia do a CS80V softsynth. Can't make out the other cause of poor clarity. It does have Moog controller's on it though.
For the Hippopotamus tour 2018 Russell and the band wore pink jackets and Ron a pink tie. A guy who is confident in his own sex doesn't need to prove himself to be a man in front of people. Not fully my own words, but what my son, at that time about 23 years old, told me when I rose an eyebrow over his choise of color on his new shirt. I'm very proud of my wise and sensible son!! 😊😊😊🥰
someone else also commented => this is a version i'd never heard. but of course for TOTP during this era they had to record the track in the preceding 24hrs (i think). something to do with performing rights or some other legal mumbo jumbo. shame its so short!
This song is one of Sparks best. Despite it being said it was fast heading for the chart (that is the top 40), it only made No.45 in the UK. A great shame.
Underated as everyone thought they were a novelty act, but utterly unheard of and totally incomprehensible to Americans (more their loss stuffing Burgers and listening to soft rock crap). Their early stuff prefigures New Wave and they were the first "rock" act to really embrace synths. They did influence a lot of British bands, but it goes unnoticed.
The crowd I don't think should have known what to make of sparks, top of the pops was like a poppy lightweight music show really with mainstream bands like queen, status quo, bay city rollers.
David Humphrey ^__^ (edit: according to the description it's David Humphrey, but the Wiki says for this album it was Keith Forsey so I'm not sure honestly)
Hi , I provided the studio drums for both Try outs and beat the clock during Sparks UK Tour whilst I was working with Public Image on The Metal Box album
These guys were the true American new wavers.
Utter brilliance! Where has this band been all my life? I was born in 80!
Shit
I missed the party!
This is one of my favourite songs ever. My brother got me into Sparks... I still love them..
Brilliant. Sheer energy and campness. Perfect.
This song is hot.

This version's awesome. Hadn't heard it 'til now.
Ron Mael is totally my inspiration for learning the keyboard, he rocks!!!
One of the 10 best bands of the 70s. Along the likes of Kraftwerk, CAN, T-Rex, The Stooge’s, Joy Division & Magazine.
do you think Daft Punk were influenced by Sparks in any way
love this 80s shit its class
simply the best.
just realised that the bass riff was used on a Trisco track called Muzick
The absolutely best version of Tryouts for the human race available on YT is the DEEVEEDEE live recording. 😁👍💖💖💖💖💖
not many a guy can pull off a pink suit. russell sure can pull off anything.

Just realized I WAS a sperm right when this came out lol ....wonder if my dad heard some Sparks
i believe the other synth is a minimoog, but with the control panel facing down.
Great!
Is that drumer Keith Forsey?
Hi It was David Humphrey aka Davey H ( myself ) former PiL ,reflex and now producing as davey H
I didn't realise this was the basis for Trisco's Muzak, one of my favourite dance tunes. These guys really were ahead of their time

Ive got the coloured picture 12" inch of this. Great song!

Win! I had this on 12" picture disc, c/w Peter Cook on the b-side!

They did! No one out there seems to have a copy though. Apparently it involves Ron and Russ turning into werewolves!

This song sounds like a Georgio Moroder song? Like Blondie!
Yes, yes. Nice tune

@JohnnyTheWolfLupino YES !!! YESSS YOU GOT IT LOL !!!
a HUGE influence on MORRISEY of the SMITHS
this version sounds better than the album cut

ХОРОШО!
who is the drummer?

You just forget how good they actually were!!!
That's because it is a Giorgio Moroder song. He produced it.
Too bad they didn't make a music video for this song...would have been interesting
someone needs to get "The Scene" up here...dang it
number 45
It should be a Moog bass
Shame it never made the top 20.
the unedited version is better and you can really hear Giorgio Moroder's influence on this song
Too bad the synth solo wasn't included.
I have always felt the drum break in the middle was super energetic, so it is disappointing to see this guy playing it cool and under stated!
Crap audio.........
Innovative and interesting music. Irritating video.
