Spectacular course and weather. The limestone and sandstone rock houses are awesome. Steven - unbelievable that you ran with your ankle injury and finished. It's even more impressive watching the video. Ouch! You definitely "do hard things" and inspire all of us to get outside of our comfort zone! Congrats again.
Thank you, Ryan! It was fun running with you as well. I was so glad to see you finish! So far I am just trying to heal; will start rehab soonish I hope.
Steven my man. You are an absolute trooper. I can't believe you rolled it that early in the race and kept going. Everything about this was great. The behind the scenes, multiple angles, the awesome crew and the motivation behind it. Absolutely loved it.
Way to grind it out. Congrats! Getting injured at mile 19 in a 100 is never expected. I feel ya, and found a way to get it done. Hope your recovery is going well! Rest up!
haha me neither man! I hope I never have to grind one out like this again! BUT when I hit low points, I can now look back to this moment and remember I CAN DO IT! Thanks for watching!
Those colourful TREES! Dude great work with documenting it! Weather looks great! You are the MAN banging it out with that ANKLE man! True grit right here. A whole different ball game doing it with that ankle. Trail looked amazing and so much variety! Ahhh man! Im proud of you and also fell for you that you couldn't go out with your FULL intent. But you did still do your BEST regardless! nice being able to connect with other tubers while running man and some of your SUBs! :) wooo! Good job for GETTING IT DONE!
Thank you Chris! The weather was beautiful and the fall foliage was great! You are right, I did the best I could given the injury and I am very proud of how I did! Thank you man. It was kind of odd (but still really cool) having so many people recognize me from the channel. So many times I would be passing someone and they would be like "Wait I know you!" lol
@@UltraTrailSteven Well done buddy! It is a win regardless! champion! Yea it is odd; it has happened to me too and I am thinking "who is this guy" then after much convo they say oh yea i watch your UA-cam lol and I am like oh okay not that odd now HAHAHHAH :P good stuff bud!
I can't imagine running a hundred miles. Then again, there was a time that running 10 mi seemed crazy. Now I'm looking at 50ks and considering 50 milers! Haha! Good luck Labe if you sign up!
Steven I have tried twice at NB100 . How and the hell you did it on a bum ankle is crazy hard and inspiring . Badass. , good luck on the hip. I do t want a new hip😢
Awesome video Steve. I thought my little 50K was difficult until I watched this. But I guess it's all relative, right? You had all the reasons to be negative and complain but you didn't. Super impressive.
Awesome looking race and great effort! Glad to know I’m not the only gritty semi-crazy ultra guy. My very first ultra 3 years ago was a 50k and I badly rolled my ankle at mile 1. Had to make the split decision to turn around and limp back or keep going? I opted to keep going and it was a brutal snow and freezing rain filled 8 1/2 hours but I finished...and not even last at that! So kudos to you keeping on, you endured 3x the distance I did to finish. I definitely subbed!
You're amazing for finishing man! This is the definition of risk vs reward. The reward was so worth it!! You killed it!! love your videos Steven. I was doing a 50k on Mt Mitchell when y'all were killing it there. The weather was amazing that day!
I'm a new subscriber; found out about your channel through Ryan Clayton's channel. Congrats on finishing the race - and with that ankle! That's grit and determination right there. Nice job on filming and shout out to your crew who also filmed and worked hard :)
Unbelievable that you powered through that ankle injury. 100% sure that if you had taken your shoe off at the aid station, the race would have been over. No getting it back on and everything in place after that.
My first run back in July I rolled and twisted my ankle after hitting a root on a steep down hill, took a nice spill too and thought the 6 miles back to my truck were rough. Neve mind you win!!! Great recap, amazing! Is it always the same ankle? For me it tends to be the left one, all started when I stepped into a rabbit hole covered with snow as a kid ...
Oh wow sounds rough! Yes, for me it is always the left ankle. First time I remember rolling it was probably 17 years ago in college playing basketball; I was on crutches after that. Then I rolled it again 2 years ago trail running, and now this time.
Real badass move to finish! Well done! I'm considering this race however heights and myself are not the best of friends. Are there a lot of steep climbs and descents and/or cliffs in this race?
Thank you! 🙏 it is a great race! There aren’t many steep climbs, but there are a few. The climbs are not very long either, but obviously there are lots of them because there is 13k of gain. There are a couple of sections where you are running near a bluff, but there is a fair amount of foliage so you don’t feel like your going to fall off. I highly recommend this race!
@@UltraTrailSteven Thanks for the info! One of my favorite things about you powering through that injury is that you have kids. Having a parent that not only pushes his/her limits by taking on incredible feats but also conquers setbacks on their journey is inspiring. Congrats again and hope you heal up soon. I look forward to following your channel.
Hi boss here for you asking have you tried visiting here in the Philippines. Always take care and Godbless. I hope you and your family is safe specially of this pandemic that we are facing right now. Im a trail runner too
Beyond impressive. It seems like you were genetically designed for this stuff- you're good at it, despite running on injury, and your attitude was surprisingly accepting and calm throughout. I kept waiting for the cranky jerk transformation. Heyyy, did you edit that out?? Lol Just kidding, great job, on a really beautiful course! And kudos to your wife for keeping the gears turning smoothly. Good thing she's an ultra runner and you can return the favor!
Thank you, Kelly! I really appreciate the comment! I did not edit any of the "lows" out; I try to always keep it real, honest, and transparent. I never had a really cranky, whiney moment... I don't think. LOL I guess I just realize injuries are an inherent risk in what I do; so I cannot change what has happened, only how I respond to it. Anyway.. lol. Thanks for watching!!!
