Copyright was never intended to "protect" creators. When our founding fathers wrote it into the Constitution (along with patents) they clearly stated it was for the progress society as a whole. Over the years it's been contorted and extended by none other than companies wanting to hold a monopoly over an idea for years past an authors death and lobby congress nonstop to get their way. I have no respect whatsoever for our copyright system.
I hate copyright. It's too confusing :(
Yes...but if you have material, a video, movie, written work, or a song of some kind, you want to make money off of, you'll want copyright to keep people from stealing your work and making the money you ain't.
Yes.
Sama seperti
@@anthonybaber7991 You can't steal a video.
@@Spyker8921 actually you can. It's done all the time. You've never heard of pirated videos? Movies recorded from the movie screens at the theatres, or movies downloaded and illegally sold out of the trunk of someone's car for $5 a piece. Happens all the time.
You may not agree with it or think it's no big deal, but it does happen and is very illegal.
would linking to this video count as copy right infringement if for an educational project in college? or any video in this manner?
they should do a video on copyright holders abuse

@Genesis Betancourt Rivera no

question, if someone makes an acoustic version of a pop song is that version now their copyright? and if people want to use that version is it fair use?
I love how the video makes no effort hiding just how much respecting copyright would infringe our freedom.
Question about copyright registration. If I write the first draft of a book, am I still allowed to register it even though it's only the first draft and likely to change. And let's say I do copyright the first draft and then go in and revise the original story. Does this mean my copyright is null because it's not the exact same story that it was when I initially got the copyright? Do I need to apply for a different copyright if I want to protect my second or third draft? Will I run into legal issues with myself?
Watch again. You don't have to publish. Copyright is automatic.
Copyright is automatically obtained by simply fixing your book (or draft) in a "tangible medium of expression" like a printed page or digital file. You don't NEED to register it to own a valid copyright. But the United States and some other countries still permit registration. If you're really worried about possible scenarios like someone hacking into your computer, stealing your draft and publishing it as their own work, or someone coming up with a very similar book idea between the time your draft is ready and your book is published, then registration is a good way to prove your ownership of the copyright, or the fact you came up with the idea first. This is probably not something that most authors need to be concerned about, though I suppose if you're one of the top authors in a particular genre, then that would make you more of a target and taking additional steps to protect yourself and your draft may be a smart move. Anyways, I think the basic copyright registration fee in the United States is $45, so I suppose you need to ask yourself if it's worth it to you.
I'm no expert, but I think you can register updates of the same work as many times as you want, as long as you pay the required fee each time. The government is happy to take your money. :) I know that some authors and publishers register every new edition that comes out of a popular textbook, for example, so I'm reasonably certain (but don't take this as legal advice!) that it is possible to register an early draft and later register the published final copy. This will not negate your copyright in your earlier drafts or editions. Technically a new edition or final copy is a "derivative work" based upon earlier versions of the same work, and I know that you as the author retain copyright in all versions of your book.
So I just have to get permission or not use a lot of it?
If I wanted to use the Friends theme "I'll be there for you" as an intro to my vlogs, and my friends and I also want to film the whole dancing around the fountain video to go with it, could I get in trouble for that?
Thanks, I shared your article on Twitter. Artist must know.
so if someone made a video exposing another to not be who they were, and it gets copyrighted, should they blame UA-cam staff or regular, everyday people for why it got copyrighted?
I pretty much agree with you two. People must know that if they don't respect other author's rights, copyright criminal justice will happen!
Do I get a strike if I post music from my itunes library? or mp3?
So how does one go about obtaining permission. For example, I make funny mp3 commentaries to play in conjunction with the movie it goes with. I would like to be able to provide samples for my customers; a few clips from the movie with the commentary. How would I go about getting permission to use the clips and how pricey would it be?
@rebelee79 Yes, you may use this in your blog. Thank you for asking.
So when I am making a video on a app and it said music from iTunes and I use it and upload it is that okay?
For the most part, no. But you'd have to give more context for a propane answer
Is grabbing wallpaper and using it for your mobile an act of copyright?
OMG! This is one of a Gem of an advice tutorial video on the subject of Copyright! Awesome! A Masterpiece Tutorial indeed! Thank You So Much! 🕯🌷🌿
Glad it was helpful!
Does that go for printing out pictures 2
Because my cousin does that
Have these laws changed much by now? Love the video by the way. Very impressed with the quality for how old it is . Thank you for sharing.
@Drzhounder Yes, you may post this to Facebook. Thank you for asking. Also feel free to become a fan of our Facebook page: OnCopyright Education
I have a question, if you take a video or an image and use it with out permission, but makes no money with it, is it fine?
dogeun Kim well they will never know
can i copy small paragraphs from websites and put them to my own with better sort?
So basically If I created something then I automatically have the copyright to that item, I don't need to get it notarized or have paperwork showing that I have copyrights to it?
How do you check the copy right status on music
if the creator of the music has been dead for 70+ years, you can use it, if it specifically says "royalty free" usually in the description or title, Or if you actively get their permission to use it
May I use this video for an online learning module I created on editing websites? I want the users to understand what outside images/text they can and cannot use.
help i dispute one song on soundcloud
One of my videos on youtube got copyrighted and I would like some help learning how I can get permission to use the content. I would like to submit the video for an Introduction UA-cam video competition for a regional sports team.
I would like to post this on my website I created for my students. First question: may I use this with proper citation to the creators? However, UA-cam is blocked. Do you have another format I can use?
How about UA-cam editor they let you use there songs is that still called copyright cause they say you can use it. Can you still get in trouble using it? Even though UA-cam have them up for you to useing them.
Thanks for pointing this out👍
Long live Pirates!!

Thank you for asking, Namllib. Yes, you may.

So how do you know when their copyright has expired? What is declared as software?
May I use this as part of a copyright online poster I am using for my students and one of my grad classes?
This makes alot of sense, thank you!
Thanks! We're glad you found it helpful.
ok i need help, i drew a picture on deviant art for someone but i didn't want them to use it or re-post it, it was there for them to appreciate and for others to know about her channel. but she refused to stop using it as her profile picture. and said she gave me credit, and she also said i can't top her from using it. is there a way of stopping her? i warned her to stop several times but she ignored me
Flex Tha Fox, thank you for your post. Please email info@copyright.com and our copyright specialists will do their best to answer to your question. Thank you.
ok c:
you don't even know my deviant art :I
lol
That is not right. I don't claim her for finding it and posting it, but if you told her it was off limits, she should respect that. Photocopyright the image, and then you can make her.
This helps alot, I didn't ask permission to use the songs in my video but I acknowledged the people who made the song (And I sort of put stuff between the songs, people remix, dubstep, split anyways XD) I get really scared if something happened to my video's, I hate the thought of it, but I guess I've been doing the right thing (I hope :0)
i want to make a cartoon movies use window moviemaker can i register it as my copyright?
Thank you, you explained it easily enough with out google ripping my brain cells out :)
may I cite this video for my Computer Literacy course?
May I use this for a Glog about copyright I need to make for my Ed class? It would be private and I can always remove it later.
Ok I need help on this, what if I used someone's material on UA-cam, but I got permission to use it, do I have to post a link to the permission, and if I don't post a link will I get a copyright strike? Even though I got permission, and if I did get a strike, then how do I resolve it?
+BrinosaurasGaming
Thanks for checking out our video. There's actually no “rule” that says you have to post permissions that you receive. However, if someone tries to claim that your video is infringing his or her work, then having the
permission posted may help you fend off that claim. If that person goes ahead anyway and demands
that UA-cam take down your video, then UA-cam will need to see the permission as part of your request to put the material back up. As to one more detail, we’re not sure what you would link to - a copy of your written permission from the proper copyright holder? If the grant of permission is
clear, then that link would probably be a good step to showing your good faith.
As to what happens after the notice and take-down process (which the law requires), that really depends on the nature of the claim from the alleged rightsholder, the nature of your alleged infringement, and the validity of the permission that you have received. We'd suggest starting with UA-cam's help pages to learn about what UA-cam might do if the whole process starts.
Ok this video actually made homework better to understand for me actually, thx.
While watching this my buddy near me realized I was having my soul sucked out of me by watching this video. He was quite amused, mean while I died a little bit on the inside watching this, I didn't want to because I already know about copyright & I had to wright an essay on this particular video.
May I use this video for a Glog about copyright that I have to create for school?
If I film a video at a attraction is it copyright
@sribrakobjr,
Yes, you may show this for your faculty meeting. Thank you for asking.
What if I got permission then he takes it back a month after its posted?
Great video. Thank you.
I am writing a self help book. Am I allowed to take something written on a psychology website and reword the terms and descriptions for my own use? Thanks
I realize this is an old comment, but in case my reply is still helpful to you or anyone with a similar question, I'd like to respond anyways. Copyright protects the specific expressions of ideas and facts, not the ideas and facts themselves. Simply paraphrasing or rewording content from a psychology website is NOT a good idea because it leaves intact much of how that description is structured and arranged. This is part of the copyrighted "specific expression" of the concepts explained on that website.
What you should do is try to explain those facts, ideas and concepts in a completely different way. If you're not sure how to go about this, my suggestion would be to write down a short point form list of facts and concepts from that website that you want to cover and then ask a friend who hasn't read that website to help you arrange them into a coherent and logical description. What matters is that someone who is familiar with both your book and the website wouldn't think you plagiarized the latter. Plagiarism is one of the worst things any author can be accused of doing. Authors who have been caught plagiarizing have seen their careers ruined, so it's important to avoid it.
I MAKE REACTION VIDEOS.. IS THIS A TRUE COPYRIGHT?
@DanainMO yes, you may. thank you for asking.
May I use this on a blog my media class made about copyright?
May I use the information from this video in a paper I am writing on copyright laws?
@SeattleULT yes, thank you for asking.
But we can share articles on Facebook, right?
what if you do say lyric videos does that count as copy right ? like I made some lyric videos of songs and put the owners names and said all rights belong to them... because it's famous people and it's hard to get their attention never alone permission
@BaumannPhoto yes, you may. also feel free to become a fan of our facebook page under OnCopyright Education. Thank you for asking.
Hi sir, can i use this video for our report about intellectual property rights? this summarizes every single thing we are going to report.
Can we use this video for our project
Very clarifying!
May I use this on my library page for my students?
If in the odd chance you had two pieces of music or art that were similar enough to each other to be considered copies, but were created independently, how would copyrights apply in that bizarre case?
Do remixes count as fair use? I plan to remix a small portion of a song to play during the end of each episode of my upcoming youtube channel. All other material from the channel will be my original content. I do not intend to distribute the original song or remix for commercial gain at any time and will encourage the viewers to support the artist of the original song. Is there even a SLIM chance I would be able to do so without the owners permission and still be considered fair use? Please, someone help me!
I am writing a college essay on copyright benefits, and the ethical, and legal implications of using work with a copyright. Do I have your permission to use the information in this video?
May I use this in a presentation I am making on Copyright for my class?
Were you ever able to?
how do i give permission to someone to use my material?
+Copyright Clearance Center Hi! I tried puting a song in my video and i contacted the producer of the song if i could use it and he said yes! So thats all i have to do to upload my video with his song in it?
+Constantine,
If the producer in fact is the copyright holder, then it sounds like you have written permission from the copyright holder to do that which you asked to do with the producer’s music. So as long as you act within the scope of the authorization granted (which it sounds like you’re planning to do), then indeed you’ve done what you needed to do - respected copyright and obtained a license, with little fuss.
May I have permission to share this at my university with a group of professors to teach them how to properly obtain materials for their courses? Thank you for creating this!
so how do I copyright my comic/art/characters, without spending a huge amount of money?
They're already under copyright law as your original work if you've published them online. Hence if you're then able to detect unfair use of it elsewhere online, you can take legal action.
Peace
ok, great! thank you!
I get it!
I don't get it
Hi guys! I have a question. Is there a method of how to get back a suspended UA-cam account? If yes, HOW? :) One of my accounts was suspended by no reason! I didn't have 3 copy rights there, but I had 3 on another account, and because of that they blocked both my accounts. Is this fair???
Great video, may I have permission to use it? I would like to embed it on my wiki, use it in my blog and in a copyright lesson.
verery informative and a good refresher for any one to remind them of copywright violations both costly and embarassing to say the least..thasnk you..i learned alot!!!!!!!!!!!
This is a great video. Very good as an instructional tool.
thanks for the good video, cos this video has answer so many confusion that I have. x
I'm glad the video was able to provide some clarity on the copyright topic. Thanks for the thanks!
So I use music in most of my videos, usually for background music, but sometimes I fear i'll get a strike, Is there anyway to use music without strikes?
Ask for permission or go to non-copyright music
I have a backup youtube channel. so I upload the videos that I fear may get a strike. once I upload the video, if I get strikes, then I change whatever is needed to be changed. I delete the video afterwards.
IGMP Gamer nice idea.
May I use your video for a copyright scavenger hunt I am creating for a masters class?
thank you so much for this video
So if you use a trademark instead of a copyright is it a
copywrong
yeah I'm in engineering
Ooooohhhh, now I get it. That just took me about a year to understand. XD
#ShoeTheTape
How does this apply to educational institutions which are for profit? Teachers still want to make this available to their students, but does the school's status put their efforts in jeopardy? Thanks!
If I made a video on youtube with mcdonalds products in it is that against copyright?
I'm still confused so I cant put a song like 'work' on my videos, sorry I'm new to youtube
Cuz that song is cancer
So....do I have permission to cite this video in a paper?
ok so i watch vanoss and i saw a vid with a link to download all of his sound effects and am i allowed to use the sound effects in my videos please reply! thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yes if he allows u then u can
Sub for sub dude? Im gettting started on my own youtube channel.
May I embed this in a website for my fourth grade class?
How do I cite this awesome video!?!?
What's with the dislikes? Purely because people don't like it that copyright exists, or because of the quality of this video?
Tom Bruce Perhaps both. There are degrees to which "rights" exist and people can respect some of what has been established by law to be a "right" but not others. This video muddies the water because there are some "rights" granted by law that they don't care if theirs is respected and don't respect that particular right for others, but the video acts as if it is all or nothing. It also does not cover or even reflect the history of copyright.
Can u copy an image from google and just throw it on the web without going through a lot of bs?
No. You NEED to get permission to make use of an image you come across on Google unless: (1) the image is in the public domain or, (2) has been released under a Creative Commons license that is compatible with your intended use, or (3) what you intend to do with the image falls under "fair use" (but be careful here because some people mistakenly believe certain uses fall under the fair use copyright exemption when they really don't).
Are pictures that i don't own like a picture of a Sports Player copyrighted?
Yes, photographs are owned by the photographer or the institution the photographer works for, such as Sports Illustrated. Unless it's put in public domain.
youtube needs to learn from this
Great video,I need this info more then ever
Glad to hear it!
Your video is very informative and full of useful information.
can i borrow yah vid for academic purpose
does that mean this video is under copyright protection?
Thank you for asking JacquiD4. Yes you may. Please see your inbox.
