I recently had heart surgery and as I lay there watching all your vids I realized there was something calling me to the wilderness. I had been working for many years but longing for a simpler existence with more solitude. Well as a soon as I was strong enough I sold everything save a few personal items and moved to North Carolina up in the mountains. I watched Dick P. in the wilderness as well about 7-8 years ago about the time you discovered him. I think that planted the seed and you capped it for me. I have never had so much alone time nor have I been as happy. I know you don't recall me but I made the comment about that shiver that went through you in the Alaskan wilderness near Dick's cabin. I now have those same shivers almost daily. I think it goes back to our childhood when life was so sweet and simple and we were unaffected by the world at large. Be well and thanks for everything. Hi shawn, I forgot to mention in your last video that you built a toolshed and a root cellar and a long house. It truly amazes me what all you can do. You work constantly all the time all day long and by the end of the day you must be exhausted and yet you still find time to play with cali. Can't wait to see that workshop started, I'm sure it will be a great build. We are new to your channel and city dwellers. Our grandparents in the 40s lived in the mountains in Puerto Rico very poor but full of so many blessings, with water from a nearby spring and washing in the river and a big box filled with dirt and three rocks as the cooking place. So we remember the hard life they lived raising 8 kids but lead a fruitful and what I can remember a plentiful life of joy. We are playing catch up to the current videos and are limiting ourselves to 4 videos a night plus the newly posted one. A very talented man indeed and a great dog companion. We can tell who is cooking by the hands too! The video quality is very very good, no heavy music to detract from the main point of building something! We watch at night and it makes me hungry to see the the cooking and the presentation on the plate of simple food well prepared. We have eaten throughout the world and let me say that a rating from Michelin should be provided to you. Keep up the good work, and continue to work safely. Forgot it as I got busy doing something else. Later it was still there,not touched,& my neighbor's dog guarded it! He never touched it!!

Cali is thee best behaved dog ever!!! What a good girl she is how she stays nearby and leaves that meat inches from her head and not touch it!!! Mine if I have him out lose on the property with me and take my eye off him for a second, he's gone, and the hunt is on... He's a good boy about not stealing food but thats it!!!

That is a terrific root cellar. Good idea about a tractor to get it backfilled before hard frosts. The hard work you've done to build/tend the garden & this structure will pay off when you still have good food in January!
Hello Shawn, I just realize the amount of leaves in this season, it would be great for future planting, collect a lot of leavest and make compost to use as a fertilizer. It would take a year, maybe more; but it's worth it. Just keep it wet and move it every week, and add green material to decompose, fresh leaves, grass, etc. You can look into it online. I make that 6 month ago in my farm. It's going pretty well so far, I'm waiting to use it next March. I'm from Argentina so. Anyway, keep the good work my friend, I admire you.
He did that when he started his garden and his hugelkultur raised beds, he used to top it up with kitchen scraps and ashes from his many fires. As you saw even for his first try he grew a lot of vegetables and next year it will be even better I'm sure. :)

Last Fall and Winter were pretty there and this summer had its days. However I think this fall with all the brilliant colors on the trees and watching them fall. Is exceptionally beautiful this year. You are so fortunate to be able to experience it . And you have worked really hard and accomplished a lot this year. The place looks magnificent. You should be very proud of yourself and your what you have built.

Hi shawn, I forgot to mention in your last video that you built a toolshed and a root cellar and a long house. It truly amazes me what all you can do. You work constantly all the time all day long and by the end of the day you must be exhausted and yet you still find time to play with cali. Can't wait to see that workshop started, I'm sure it will be a great build. We are new to your channel and city dwellers. Our grandparents in the 40s lived in the mountains in Puerto Rico very poor but full of so many blessings, with water from a nearby spring and washing in the river and a big box filled with dirt and three rocks as the cooking place. So we remember the hard life they lived raising 8 kids but lead a fruitful and what I can remember a plentiful life of joy. We are playing catch up to the current videos and are limiting ourselves to 4 videos a night plus the newly posted one. A very talented man indeed and a great dog companion. We can tell who is cooking by the hands too! The video quality is very very good, no heavy music to detract from the main point of building something! We watch at night and it makes me hungry to see the the cooking and the presentation on the plate of simple food well prepared. We have eaten throughout the world and let me say that a rating from Michelin should be provided to you. Keep up the good work, and continue to work safely. From Central TX to our new friend up North!

Forgot it as I got busy doing something else. Later it was still there,not touched,& my neighbor's dog guarded it! He never touched it!!

Just an idea/thought. Long ago, you did a drone shot of the placement of your structures. It would be nice to see an updated shot of where new/pending buildings. New cellar, pond, garden, workshop, greenhouse. Love tour channel!
Cali is thee best behaved dog ever!!! What a good girl she is how she stays nearby and leaves that meat inches from her head and not touch it!!! Mine if I have him out lose on the property with me and take my eye off him for a second, he's gone, and the hunt is on... He's a good boy about not stealing food but thats it!!!

That is a terrific root cellar. Good idea about a tractor to get it backfilled before hard frosts. The hard work you've done to build/tend the garden & this structure will pay off when you still have good food in January!
Hello Shawn, I just realize the amount of leaves in this season, it would be great for future planting, collect a lot of leavest and make compost to use as a fertilizer. It would take a year, maybe more; but it's worth it. Just keep it wet and move it every week, and add green material to decompose, fresh leaves, grass, etc. You can look into it online.
I make that 6 month ago in my farm. It's going pretty well so far, I'm waiting to use it next March. I'm from Argentina so. Anyway, keep the good work my friend, I admire you.
He did that when he started his garden and his hugelkultur raised beds, he used to top it up with kitchen scraps and ashes from his many fires. As you saw even for his first try he grew a lot of vegetables and next year it will be even better I'm sure. :)
