I’ve got a lot of good memories of this mall when Time out on the Court was downstairs, hanging out in the food court as a teen. Now I take my kids there to run around in the winter when it’s to cold for the park. They can run all there energy out and never disturb a soul in the 1.5 mil sq ft playground lol
I'm amazed the entire mall is completely accessible so late at night. Even with the arcade open I'd think they'd section off the rest of the place from a security standpoint. Like Sal said you never know what is around the corner...
Back in the day it had a variety of bars and restaurants. In the nineties it was the nightspot. It was a gorgeous behemoth. My brother was one of the builders. Sad to see it graffitied dark and vacant
Can they turn dead malls into film studios or use them for movies?? Or how about into amusement complexes? Go kart racing, indoor mini golf, rock climbing etc...
How many malls are going to look like this when jcpenney goes under. Also there no way I’d pay double digit figures for the mall especially with the millions of dolllars you’ll need for repairs.
Cindy Klenk The only way to take the steam out of Amazon would be to end their generous tax breaks, but they already have seen this occur and they have a solution to salvage themselves: relocate their distribution centres to other countries that have corrupt governments that are thrilled for their improvements on their usually non-existent infrastructure that retains the bare minimum of regulations regarding safety and environmental protections, and buy off the political elite in order to get away with wages that are not even close to a minimum wage for the employees of the region. In these countries people will do anything to survive, even when survival is a loosely defined and deflationary bidding war. Initially they set up shop in the business district for their customer support via email, chat and phone support. The buildings have an image of success for the country, with wages of the college-educated providing earnings that for the majority of their nation appears to be a dream come true, and this assures the political elite continued dominance. However they quietly open up the sweatshops and distribution centres that are horrendous, cheap as chips to locate a deserted former factory or building distribution centres the size of Cincinnati Mall, with lower health and safety standards and focus their inflated costs to build on the construction of their internet and telecommunications infrastructure that is built just for their own structures, and protections for the employees in these facilities would never receive permission to purchase the land, let alone hire employees. I’m in the UK, so I don’t know if America has seen this political bribery, but we are struggling to end the Working Tax Credit System. What WTC does for the Middle and Lower Class workers on the WRAG (Work Related Activities Group) or for those that are legally working but falling below the already weighted down Government’s Cost Of Living figures are given a Government Benefit that provides the worker money from the taxpayers to the workers wages, so a deception is created and the Corporation begins its exploration of alternative and far more lucrative locations for returns. In other words the Corporation is receiving another tax cut by paying their employees a top-up that the Corrupted Government Representatives that receive bribes hides it in Legislation suggested by the PR for these Corporations, allowing them to say during Election Campaigns that Employment is at an all time high. It is very rarely discussed. If someone writes about it or a news programme mentions it almost every time they either let time cover up the facts; claim that it’s fake in order to buy enough time for the country to remember it; the Corporation is given a pathetic slap on the face with velvet gloves or the Tipping Point happens when the Corporation is fined and some of it’s Cuts are removed. Then the Corporation declares Chapter 7, which allows them to sack employees, they close locations and pay more for less. That’s not attractive to most, so they Fire Sale their assets and announce massive closures or even remove their presence from an entire country in lieu of a better return on investment (ROI) and move to locations where overhead, safety, employees’ healthcare and pensions are repressed or eliminated completely. And the building where they started off as Superstars is used in a limited capacity or is closed completely, as we see here at Cincinnati Mall. What an Experiment!
This is my favorite dead mall.. the absurdity of the size, the decor, the fact that its a nice mall on some level and started failing before it began.. i cant look away, its like a car accident.
Great video! I laughed a few times "those doors are possessed." 😆🤣 But yeah, malls get spooky after dark. I used to work in one and after everything was closed I just wanted to get out of there STAT! Keep up the good work!
Funny, but 2 years back during the winter, some water pipes burst, & flooded that garage entrance where you started out. That security vehicle, has been there forever!
It’s weird thinking that security car is just there abandoned for ten years. You’d think at a bare minimum the company that owns it would have sold it when they no longer needed it or a manager would have taken it. To just leave it there to rot seems frivolous. And heaven knows how long that mirror has been busted off. But there’s always the possibility that the business that owned it and is responsible for it no longer exists. Then again it IS a Ford. Found on road dead. Fix or repair daily. Hell, they should have junked it. And after ten years that registration plate has been reassigned. Sal - I notice you visit some malls multiple times looking at various degrees of decay. Would be interesting to see split screens of the same angles over time. Sounds like a pain to edit, but I think it might look cool.
I really enjoyed this two-part series. I live in the area and used to go to this mall, especially when it was Cincinnati Mills and they had a lot of outlet stores. My favorites were Wilsons Leather Outlet and Steve & Barry's. I stopped going when it got to the point that fewer stores were in the mall and it felt unsafe because of how empty it was. This mall never worked because of where it's located. There are two other malls just a few miles away, right off the same freeway, I-275. Both of those malls are also struggling at this point, but historically they were doing better for longer. There are also a couple of strip malls at the same exit across the freeway that seem to be doing okay. And at this point, the popular shopping spots are in West Chester, Monroe (both outdoor shopping/lifestyle centers), also Kenwood, and to some degree Florence, KY (both indoor malls). Forest Fair never stood a chance.
Both this mall and Tri-County Mall are gone now. Of the three 275 malls, Northgate Mall is the only one left. And it's not far behind suffering the same fate both Tri-County and Forest Fair suffered.
Hi sal, would just like to say I am loving your vlogs. I think I find them fascinating due to I have experienced redundancy at what once was the largest car making firm in the UK. Your videos show that nothing lasts forever and how quickly business/life can go bad. Keep up the great work, all the best from the UK.
I worked in the is particular mall during Phase I at Time Out. We were open late and I can tell you every employee knew the place was haunted so being in there at night was always a creepy time. The mall was big back in those days and a great first job out of high school but it died quickly. The good old days
This mall looks very much like the Colorado Mills Mall, which was closed for damn near a year after a huge hail storm damaged the building and was flooded by the accompanying heavy rain.
When I was younger this mall was actually cool with the original time out arcade and movie theaters. Even when they had that club at the top of the building. I had so many dates there as a teen lol. It's a shame how they let that place fall apart.
This is very creepy for sure. Never have I seen Malls this dead silent, nobody around. Pure nightmare fuel, it's so big and spacious yet. It's colourfulness adds to it's terrifying vibe. Great job, Sal.
The announcer on the McD's ad is Willard's radio partner in Washington, DC, Ed Walker (RIP). Willard and Ed were known as the "Joy Boys" on WRC radio, and Willard was the local Bozo on WRC-TV channel 4 - which is how he came to be recruited for the Ronald character.
hey bud just wondering if you heard a disembodied voice at 4:33. defiantly something. either its that girl thats with you guys or a spirit looking for her car
I'm really enjoying your expeditions and I just recently came across your channel. If you would like any suggestions, there is a Mall in Cleveland TN that I came across on a drive a couple years ago called Bradley Square Mall. While I was there it was still in operation but not more than 30 people there, many stores were empty and the only ones I saw were a jewelry store, game store, a little bounce house place for kids, Lazer tag and a beautiful cinema. The employees I talked to said that business like the Lazer tag and kids place only last about a month and they are gone and they said the mall was dying a slow death. To my knowledge it's still open, but that's just from searching Google as I haven't been back. Another one that is dying out is Knoxville Center Mall also in TN. I have watched it dwindle away over the years and have seen it in its prime. I have heard that someone had purchased it and was attempting to bring it back to life, much like the mall we had in Oak Ridge which was demolished and rebuilt as a strip mall (I had the pleasure of walking around it many times before it did, even as a child that mall was almost dead with only a Petros, Dollar General, Belk and JC Penney.), but I have seen nothing to support that. I apologize for rambling on lol I just genuinely enjoy urban exploration, especially Malls and get excited when someone is able to capture it all before it's gone. Thank you for what you do and sharing these places of beauty! It is most appreciated.
First! Great to be actually first on one of your videos, Sal. I really enjoyed this Cincinnati Mills series. This also reminds me of Dan Bell's work. Your videos are so super in quality! I'm quite sure he will be watching this video! Thanks for all your efforts!
I wish Dan Bell did as many vids nowadays, that were like his older videos. His newer ones(hate to say it) don't strike me to the great extent, his older ones had that awesome feel to them. Not sure why. Maybe one day, he'll get back into doing such vids again?
As Sal and his friends open the door their not entering the Massive Mall like they think , they have just entered The Twilight Zone lol you sound just like the host of that show but I’m sure you’ve been told that before lol loving this Second Part !!!
(Theres a cool maintenance hallway close to the movie theater that you didn't go in, but this was still really cool to see at night) I really old memories of this place from when I was a little kid, and seeing it always feels so surreal.
I watched the daytime exploration you did and watching the night time one, I started to think that it can be a location for science fiction movies, it looks like the inside of a space station; I watched the series: The expanse and it sorts of look like it. It is great to see a mal with lights on and a minimum of care; it is not trashed and the lawn is still cut. It deserves praise for this at least. I would say it is like walking into a museum, or a modern art exhibit t.,it is a museum of mall architecture. Thank you for the great work showing it and researching the history, you're a curator of mall artefacts.
What was that "Due to unforeseen circumstances we are unable to continue with our broadcast." It sounds like something I heard in the first Panic at the Disco album.
You mentioned that an arcade was still running in the mall. Why didn't you show it? I would've loved to see if it were a REAL old school type of arcade, or a ticket winning quarter muncher of lame prize games. Seeing an old school arcade still in operation would've been as much of a blast to the past than the mall.
I greatly appreciate your demeanor in your videos. I love this video genre, but there are a lot of goofballs who sound like 3 year olds who spend most of the time amusing themselves with sound effects. Your adventures have been great fun!
12:00 if im correct, the place youre walking in is larger than 1.5m square feet. The 1.5 million is the retail alone (stores, anchors, etc.) So the indoor section itself is around 200k-300k square feeta added to the size.
Imagine bumping into Ronald McDonald or seeing him running towards you from the end of a dimly lit service corridor. At night. Far worse than a tiny spider.
thanks for the great explore and and the info / homework youve done , sad none of these out fits could make it work , keep up the good work , very cool.
This was amazingly creepy. The Ronald McDonald commercial was really dated, what an odd outfit. Nice to see you teaming up with Ron and Kristen, you both do such beautiful work!
Damn, the DDR machine at 21:30 just sitting there not plugged in gave me feels. That's many hours of my teenage years. Would love to have it for myself, but I'm in Australia. Speaking of Australia, does anyone know what kind of spiders they were in the video? Australian spiders would call them "snacks", but what's the human name for them?
Hey Sal, been enjoying your channel for a while now. It's funny you called this place in Cincinnati haunted. Go to back to this video, and at about 4:32, when you guys are walking through the garage, see if you hear a whisper that says "get out" or something phonically similar. I ran it back several times, its like an EVP but I heard it with the naked ear. Right after you were asked "Did you see something" and you said "I thought I did." You will hear it better with a good pair of headphones or earbuds etc. Keep it up man.
I remember the huge indoor gulf course and fairs wheel and the sand box I grew up in the 80’s I loved timeout the movie theater with the pulsating lights you could see for a dollar. note want to see a dyeing mall close by tri county mall is getting there.
Gorgeous spiders. You should be glad they're around; they add to the ecosystem and rid your air of pests. Garden spiders are one of my favorite species.
Congratulations on 10k subscribers. I think you were at only 2-3k when I discovered your work. Keep up the great work and be sure to have fun doing it.
I remember the movies that had the flashing lights in the front. They caused kids to go into seizures. If it were my place I'd probably secure it and make a large indoor medical pot farm.
I ALMOST DIED CAUSE OF A CINCINNATI KILLER SPIDER!!!! (LOLOLOLOL) ...He was just saying hello. Thank you again for bringing us along for this. Awesome treatment of the subject matter.
Is that war of the worlds? Really given the size and parking the best purpose i think of is housing. Keep the food court and a few shops, neighborhoods A and B could legit be neighborhoods. Add a playground and a gym all inside. I'm currently looking for donations to make the necessary 55 million dollars.
Wow Sal....you braved it way better than I would of been able to handle. I would rather get into a fist fight with a big stronger person than be around those spiders. Another instant classic Sal...much love brotha!
Dawn of the Dead, 2004. That was filmed at Thornhill Square Shopping Centre in Ontario, Canada. I thought it was filmed at this mall at the start of the daytime video because the back near the dilapidated security car looks similar to the dock area at the mall in the film.
I might of missed a comment here in regards to why the Mall is still open that late. Why is it still open at that Hour? Please tell me. Anyways Love your Expedition Logs! Thanks for this!!!!
I was curious who was responsible for all the theming, and now that you've said it was the Mills Corporation, it makes a ton of sense why this mall reminds me so much of the former St. Louis Mills (now St. Louis Outlet Mall, although it's 92% vacant). It's also themed out in an OTT way, and was also sold to Simon Properties. And it was also WAY too large for the area it was in. St. Louis Mills has an ice rink, LOL. It also had a go-cart track, indoor skate park, and a mini golf place. They are literally twins of each other, except that St. Louis Mills was built all on one level. It's now going to be repurposed as a Sports Complex, so at least it's not going to waste like this one is. Hopefully they can come up with some sort of plan for Forest Fair!
My daughter works in marketing for Simon Properties in Indianapolis. I told her to pitch this mall as a giant skate park with all that floor space, you could even have races from one side to the other.
I’ve got a lot of good memories of this mall when Time out on the Court was downstairs, hanging out in the food court as a teen. Now I take my kids there to run around in the winter when it’s to cold for the park. They can run all there energy out and never disturb a soul in the 1.5 mil sq ft playground lol
giant indoor playground is a good idea.
Dead malls at night. Where all your dreams and nightmares collide.
I'm amazed the entire mall is completely accessible so late at night. Even with the arcade open I'd think they'd section off the rest of the place from a security standpoint. Like Sal said you never know what is around the corner...
I guess there is just not much left for them to care about, plus it gives the security guard something to do.
Back in the day it had a variety of bars and restaurants. In the nineties it was the nightspot. It was a gorgeous behemoth. My brother was one of the builders. Sad to see it graffitied dark and vacant
No, Sal likely arranged this beforehand with mall security.
Oh god original Ronald McDonald is scarier than the mall at night.
Can they turn dead malls into film studios or use them for movies?? Or how about into amusement complexes? Go kart racing, indoor mini golf, rock climbing etc...
A part of Century III Mall was recently used for Mindhunter. Before that, She's Out of My League was filmed in the food court.
She said, “hot, steamin’ cup o’nope”! I am dyin’! 🤣🤣🤣
Pretty much my favorite thing on the internets last year, that comment.

@Cindy Klenk honestly these old malls would be great skateparks.

Damn, that garage was creepy in the dark in 1993 when there were customers. I can't imagine what it's like these days.
Pitch black. Pure black. Nothing.
As of October 2019, the spooky security car has been removed. I miss that car.
Great video! I laughed a few times "those doors are possessed." 😆🤣 But yeah, malls get spooky after dark. I used to work in one and after everything was closed I just wanted to get out of there STAT! Keep up the good work!
I find it interesting that someone is still paying the electric bill
As do I sir...
I'm wondering bout how much that bill would be each month
@Tom Johnson I would think it be more than that it's a big place
Financial firms buy it and write it off as tax write off from what I’m told.

Imagine bumping into Ronald McDonald or seeing him running towards you from the end of a dimly lit service corridor. At night. Far worse than a tiny spider.
If Auntie Ann's leaves, you know you're in trouble
Awesome looking 🕷 🕸.
Your production of videos is excellent and information is so interesting. Such a beautiful mall in such a sad state.
thanks for the great explore and and the info / homework youve done , sad none of these out fits could make it work , keep up the good work , very cool.
The Bank of Nova Scotia now named Scotia Bank is a Canadian bank, how did it get in Cincinatti?
Hey Sal, been enjoying your channel for a while now. It's funny you called this place in Cincinnati haunted. Go to back to this video, and at about 4:32, when you guys are walking through the garage, see if you hear a whisper that says "get out" or something phonically similar. I ran it back several times, its like an EVP but I heard it with the naked ear. Right after you were asked "Did you see something" and you said "I thought I did." You will hear it better with a good pair of headphones or earbuds etc. Keep it up man.
Woah wtf
My 1st nightclub experience was at Bourbon Street in the Forest Fair Mall. The year was 1996
the best description i have ever heard sal makes the best descriptions
Good video! I laughed when you said anything could be lerking twice it gave it more a creepy vibe
I remember the huge indoor gulf course and fairs wheel and the sand box I grew up in the 80’s I loved timeout the movie theater with the pulsating lights you could see for a dollar. note want to see a dyeing mall close by tri county mall is getting there.
Kinda curious what kinda spiders they were. Suckers were huge and fat and wow!
Killer Hairy Cincinnati Mall Garage Spiders
Seems legit. Burn them all! 😂
FLAMETHROWER MODE
Gorgeous spiders. You should be glad they're around; they add to the ecosystem and rid your air of pests. Garden spiders are one of my favorite species.
Congratulations on 10k subscribers. I think you were at only 2-3k when I discovered your work. Keep up the great work and be sure to have fun doing it.
Thank you!!!
As always, ❤️ your video! So spooky at night! Great job Sal!
An awesome, and sad place all at the same time.
I hear a whisper at 4:31
You know your Mall is doomed when Mall Historian UA-camrs show up...
Was that a Sears shopping cart in Auntie Annie’s? How long has the Sears been gone?
Great Video. Loved seeing the mall at night. You rock Sal,
Thanks Kevin...you rock too :)
Someone go to 4:33 and tell me you don’t hear a voice whispering “get out”
I heard it. Very slow and drawn out.
I heard it. that's wack
I heard it..
I remember the movies that had the flashing lights in the front. They caused kids to go into seizures. If it were my place I'd probably secure it and make a large indoor medical pot farm.
THE REAL DAWN OF THE DEAD!! 🧟♀️🧟♂️🙀
You win!! Good ears!!! You’re the first to notice it! Also, I put his “apology” at the end :)
@@sal I noticed orson at the end. Good show, too many spiders tho. lol
Lolol just...no. No spiders. The mall needs to be demolished because of the spiders.
I'm so depressed by these videos. I grew up going to Forest Fair Mall in the 90s and early 2000s.
Very nice look , really looked cool at night, and them spiders tho wow, Big 👍
Wow Sal....you braved it way better than I would of been able to handle. I would rather get into a fist fight with a big stronger person than be around those spiders. Another instant classic Sal...much love brotha!
Sal, would you know which mall was used in the that zombie movie where they were staying at the rooftops most of the time? Can't remember the details.
Dawn of the Dead, 2004. That was filmed at Thornhill Square Shopping Centre in Ontario, Canada.
I thought it was filmed at this mall at the start of the daytime video because the back near the dilapidated security car looks similar to the dock area at the mall in the film.
@@deanchur , thanks!
Where's Sam?
Such a weird place ! so big ! i wish i could see this in person. Great video as always Sal ! cheers :)
I might of missed a comment here in regards to why the Mall is still open that late. Why is it still open at that Hour? Please tell me. Anyways Love your Expedition Logs! Thanks for this!!!!
No: the security guard let them in. A prearranged meeting.
What a lovely spider neighborhood!
4:31 was that whisper from one of you guys?
Thanks for doing these. They are so cool.
I adored that place as a teenager :(
PLEASE tell me someone heard that creepy woman whisper at 4:32! She definitely says two syllables/words
those two orbweavers outside the building are really really pretty! though I would not want them in my house.
I think spiders are totally cool! 8 lovely eyes! I really like them! On the other hand my wife is FAR more afraid of them then you seem to be!
