This method of cutting mesh helps prevent fray and is useful if you are making a wreath where the cut edges will be exposed. You can use a wood burning tool on other kinds of mesh as well - usually fabric mesh and deco mesh are ok, but test on a small area first. Be careful not to use it on any mesh with jute or on burlap.
Please be advised that you should take proper safety precautions when using a wood burning tool. Ensure you are in a well ventilated area and using a mask/respirator. The device is very hot and easily burns through almost anything, so be careful!
