When I received the Holy Spirit I didn’t speak in tongues... but I felt like a 2,000 lb. weight was taken off my shoulders, and I felt electrified.... I had power to overcome my sins, everything looked brighter, it was like a black cloud over my entire house was removed.... I feel I was delivered from demonic spirits for sure.... Thank you God!!
I felt chains breaking from my wrists and a rock fell off my heart. I knew I was saved and free. Thank God. Amen! I think alot of people dont understand what the use of tongues is, it was to show jews the Spirit had come unto the gentiles. Because Jews had to see signs and miracles to believe.
Too many people think that God fills you with emotions God gives you the word of Truth which is the Bible read the Bible he will tell you the truth your emotions will lie to you they are of the flesh and we should not trust our emotions but trust in the truth of the word of God
when the Holy Spirit decended upon me, there was absolutely No Doubt that the Spirit decended upon me. So how can everyone be questioning it? There is no way to miss the experience.
Well, I don't think you can make a blanket statement about this gentleman because he doesn't agree with your interpretation on baptism in the Holy Spirit do you? To call him a wolf in sheep's clothing would have to mean that you would call countless, great Christians throughout history 'wolves in sheep's clothing' wouldn't you? After all, the great majority of evangelicals and protestants throughout the ages never received the gift of tongues that you postulate, yet were very fruitful in brining souls to Christ and proclaiming the truth of the gospel. In case you were wondering, I speak in tongues and am spirit filled. However, to make such oversimplified and critical statements that demean good and upright believers (I know many of them) just because they don't see being filled with the spirit the same way you do is dangerous and cultic in nature. Please stop defaming people you don't know.

To twist and distort the bible for your own convenience is to demonstrate a lack of trust and faith in God, as well as true knowledge of it. And I am in no means saying the TRUTH about this pastor because he can't speak in tongues, I am saying he has weak arguments and lack of knowledge in his understanding of the verses he presented. To say that the book of Acts was purely a description of an event and that the supernatural manifestations in the bible have seized means he is now completely going off on his own bias opinions rather than factual scripture as it does not say that anywhere in the bible. I heard the gospel 20 years ago for the first time . I responded to God’s voice and I wanted to be saved and forgiven of my sinful life. I had so much struggle with sin after I got saved and I was a complete failure at being obedient but I never doubted my relationship with Christ because my conversion experience was so powerful! After 20 years of trying so hard to live the Christian life I finally turned from myself and doing things my way and I repented from focusing on myself and my appearance. I could finally see Christ in the Bible as Holy and pure and righteous! I bowed my will to everything the Bible said to do and I finally found power to obey. Now I would rather die than to dishonor Him with a disobedient life. I realize I don’t obey perfectly and I am still sinful but my affections for sin are now my affections for Christ. I finally had a new regenerated heart and it has made all the difference. I say this to beware of powerful emotional experiences because I never doubted mine and I did not have saving faith or the Holy Spirit because I did not understand the gospel the way I needed to. God gave me the Holy Spirit the day I truly repented and believed and that was also granted by Him. I hope this helps anyone struggling and trying so hard but failing. Matthew 7:18 Remember a good tree cannot produce bad fruit. If your Christian life is marked by bad fruit maybe you need to re-examine your understanding of the Gospel and who Christ really is, He is Lord.
Holy Spirit Baptism: when person receives Holy Spirit (person) He starts convicting him showing him his sins and then that person feels bad and says I will not do this again just like mother holding child's ear and asking him will u do it again and child says No mummy...so God gives power to that person to overcome/fight sin. Then comes transformation...
It’s the process through justification and sanctification. I was baptized in the Holy Spirit and asked god to renew my mind body and soul and the next day I woke up and I was totally different human being. Still am. I stay away from sin, I stopped cursing, I don’t say gods name in vein no more and I feel like a floating cloud. Also I received the gifts of tongues. Was not in a fluent language but in a language the spirit can speak through me that only god understands. He helps me pray. It’s like a straight line to god when I pray.
Thats always been the question that pops up for me with the ones who have had the "experience" of speaking in tongues.. I thought we are supposed to always have it interpreted? Makes me question if it really did happen or was just a stirred up fleshly experience.
I grew up speaking tongues in my christian life. Never felt a change or lifted up. I did for like 4 to 5 years. Later in scriptures are written differrent whata I was taught
@@gabriellaruhlman8163 The only time you need interpretation for tongues is when you are in a corporate body as spoken and written in one Corinthians 12 and 14. But interpreting speaking in tongues when it is your own prayer language is not needed because you are speaking to God. He understands immediately because it is his own language/s. (He has unlimited languages) There is a difference between being baptized in the Holy Spirit-a personal experience - and the Gifts of the Holy Spirit, one of which is speaking in tongues is purely for the corporate body - the church and therefore needs an interpretation so that ‘all may be edified’.
I know 3 people in my church who have the gift of interpretation and every time there is a tongue it is interpreted. It is such an edifying and exciting time for the church!

And no where that says their is a personal prayer language that was added in the early 1900s, when the new denomination pentecostal realized they couldn't really speak in tounges which everyone agreed was a known language that the speaker didn't know. Yes I am filled, Baptized in the Holy Ghost and yes I spoke in Tongues...and dunamis I received was evident with my walk with the Lord ever since, I definitely have a stronger desire to see other men saved then I did before being filled with the Holy Ghost...I also have a stronger desire to serve God, pray read my Bible Witness and see other men find Destiny in Christ...I am a witness to the Holy Ghost Baptism is for today...
O so you spoke in Tongues you say? Tell me did you bump your gums and then 1 awkward person steps up to "interpret" it? Or did you speak in your native language and people from other languages that DON'T speak english understood what you said IN THERE language?. And remember your "feelings " are not infallible so what you felt is of little importance to the truth of what really took place.
I feel like some people question "have I been filled with the Holy Spirit or not?" because people think you can only be filled if you speak in tongues. I always questioned weather I'm filled or not because I never spoke in tongues, but now I have a better understanding of the Holy Spirit and can say that I have been filled. Just a reminder, that yes you can speak in tongues and be filled, but that doesn't mean the Holy Spirit will always be with you. I know a lot of people who were filled and turn back to wickedness.
What causes us to "speak in tongues"( one heavenly language) is when we are being filled we must yield our tongue to the Spirit.That causes the overflowing Spirit baptism( born of Spirit) and the Spirit becomes one with our spirit and remains in us forever.
I wasn't baptized in the Holy Spirit until about a year after I got saved. I received Jesus as my Lord and Savior, then the next year I heard about receiving baptism of the Holy Spirit. I was told to ask God for it and receive it . A day or so later I started to hear things in my spirit. Then I let them come out of my spirit and out of my mouth later that day.
i have a question how does a sinner one who hates God. one who wants nothing to do with God come to Christ without the direct intervention of God? even Jesus Christ said you can not come to me unless the Father draws you but, you can not come to the Father but by Me

I ask You Lord to send the right laborers to them that they will listen to that will preach them Your Word concerning salvation, and anything else that they need to hear from Your Word. I pray Lord, they will listen and receive You and be saved, and blessed. In Jesus Name. Amen. That person still has their own free will to choose to receive Jesus or not. It may change their heart or not. But, it will make them more open to salvation. It all depends upon the person. We have to come to God through receiving Jesus as our Lord and Savior. He is the door to our salvation. It's God's will for us all to be saved, but, He will not force us, because He created us to be His children and not like robots that have to obey Him. He didn't want to force us to love Him.

The Father draws all people buddy, the text just informs us that God makes the first step, nothing more. God always calls us to repentance, we just need to humble ourselves, repent and return to Him. It is amazing how someone can describe something they know so little about. One does not have to be more spiritual to receive the Baptism in the Holy Spirit but it is available. I was saved and received the Holy Spirit when I was about eleven. But I knew something was still missing for the Word of God still did not really come alive to me. When I was 30 I was baptized in the Spirit and spoke in tongues and the Word of God became alive. Paul said he was glad he spoke in tongues and said to forbid not to speak in tongues. I'm sorry but an argument will just not trump an experience based on the Bible. I would have gone to Heaven before I received the baptism but there is just no comparison to my life before and since.

I believe I felt the Holy Spirit enter my body a few times. I'm assuming that means In the Spirit for intoxicating short-term periods. I believe it was God telling me he was there when I was showing total true faith. It was like several huge coincidence pertaining to the Father hinting I needed baptism. It was the realest experience I ever felt. And once when I was a kid he proved himself to me once. I tried to shut off my street light with mind control. I asked God to show me a sign and shut off our street light and as soon as I said light the light went out. Either that was a really major coincidence or God was showing me he was there. That really scared me as a kid. What are the odds.
I’ll tell you know this pastor is correct: I have been saved for years, and during that time I was unsettled by hearing that I hadn’t yet been “baptized in the spirit”. Of course, I wanted everything Jesus had for me. So for YEARS I prayed for this fervently, I fasted, I meditated, I interacted with people and churches who believe this is a special thing that not all Christians get. I wept and wept on my knees for YEARS asking Jesus for this. Nothing ever happened. Now of course you don’t know my heart which is fine because you don’t have to judge my heart, but I do. And God does. And he knows what I begged for and cried about and all the nights I went through feeling like he maybe didn’t love me because of this. If the baptism of the Holy Spirit was something extra beyond believing in Jesus as our savior, he would have given it to me. There is nothing I could have done more to plead with him about this. I would have it. But he didn’t. And if He loves me, and I have surrendered my life to him, and I haven’t had this experience, then it’s not necessary. That’s how I know.
Go to a Pentecostal church and have them lay hands on you as Paul did in Acts ch.19 and pray with you to recieve the Holy Spirit baptism. That's what I did .
What about Acts 8: 15-17 where Peter and John had to pray for new believers to receive the Holy Spirit? It says they were believers. Doesn’t that mean they were saved? Yet it plainly states they didn’t receive the Holy Spirit until Peter and John laid hands on them. Please explain.
This is actually where i stumbled - I was in a church who did Nicky Gumble's Alpha course - great Christology, then on the Holy Spirit weekend way. I was asked after saying yes to Jesus as Lord and Saviour if I wanted to be filled with the Holy Spirit - which is incorrect. At the point of accepting Jesus, the new believer is sealed/deposited with the Holy Spirit. Another experience I had also on the same program was to be "re-filled" with the Holy Spirit. The last completely abberant experience i had was that there would then be an introduction of Pentecostal doctrines and beliefs which then alllowed me to fratenise the charismatic and ultimately the prosperity. 1 week after the Holy Spirit weekend I already started to see gifts (Dreams, Visions, Word of knowledge, prayer and intercession). The baptism of the Holy Spirit was presented to me incorrectly which had very bad consequences. Thanks for clarifying.
Gifted Holy Ghost in my bed almost a year ago come January I believe it was the 17th or 18th in my memo it is saved on the 18th. Amazing blessed experience visually and spiritually and physically and it changed me 100%. God bless you brothers and sisters in Christ I hope you the best.
I believe this brother is correct , it's so sad to see the division among believers over interpretation of scripture today and Paul addresses this division, it's amazing how God knew there would be division among believers and addressed it 2000 years ago and it still applies today , I feel that if man just puts man's interpretation aside and just trust in Jesus Christ we can all come together in unity and edify the body , peace be with all and God bless
Respectfully, I feel that this video leaves out a very important section of Acts. Paul meets a group of approximately 12 disciples, and he asks them if they received the Holy Spirit when they believed on Christ. They tell him that they have never heard of the Holy Spirit, so Paul completes their understanding, baptizes them in the name of Jesus Christ, and then lays hands on them and they receive the Holy Spirit and speak in toungues on the spot. So, how is it that these people were disciples (meaning they believed on Christ) and yet didn’t immediately receive the Holy Spirit upon belief? This seems to indicate that somehow the baptism of the Holy Spirit happens subsequent to profession of faith. Now mind you, I believe on Jesus and have not received this baptism of the Holy Spirit as described in Acts. I have never spoken in toungues. But that seems to be what Acts is telling us, so I have been praying for God to baptize me in the spirit. If I’m mistaken about this section of Acts, I’m open to correction from the Word.
Not sure if you'll see this, but respectfully as well, those disciples in Acts 19 were baptized "...into John's baptism," which was John's message of repentance. It is quite possible they were taught by Apollos who knew well the OT Scriptures able to teach on the Messiah tho not fully understanding Christian truth until Aquila and Pricilla took him aside. So they did believe in the Messiah as the OT taught, but they were not baptized in Who came after John: Christ. Make sense? Then we get into the controversy of "speaking in tongues and prophesying" and whether these were sign gifts or still operating today. Each side of that debate has folks 100% committed to their position with little to no chance of crossing to the other side. Wherever you fall on that debate, ultimately we are to practice love and "endeavoring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace." I've found that often grace needs to be extended to those who believe other than we do b/c, ultimately, that issue is not the basis of salvation. It is a side issue.
Dear Dustin, you are right, that is Acts 19. There is another example of believers that were already baptized in the name of Jesus but had not received the Holy Spirit, it is in Acts 8:14-17. This scriptures shows that there are two baptisms: in the name of Jesus and baptism of the holy spirit . Also, John 20:22 tells us that Jesus, having already risen from the dead and before the ascension breathed on the apostles and told them to 'receive the Spirit' but they later were baptized in the Holy Spirit in Acts 2. So there are 2 to 3 witnesses in scripture that indicate we can be saved but not empowered. We must seek the baptism of the HS, like you said! Also, a personal testimony: I received Jesus as my personal Saviour at age 9 and only at age 22 did I learn I could ask for the Baptism of the Holy Spirit! During all that time, I truly did not have the same amount of revelation I got after receiving the Baptism of the Holy Spirit. Also, no one laid hands on me, but a brother patiently answered all my questions using only scripture without saying waht I could or couldn't do. Scripture is all you need! I also remember deciding I would not give into fear about thinking if tongues was for me or not, because I know the devil will always try to keep blessings far from us using fear or false humility. This brother said: if you want, I can lay hands on you to receive the baptism, or you can just receive it by yourself by faith. I decided on the latter (now I know why, because God is using me to minister to people online) and went to my dorm room (we were in college) and received the baptism of the HS by faith, just like I understand you did. I could have stopped there, but I pressed on and said, thank you Jesus for the gift of tongues and decided to start speaking whatever syllables in all humility and hope God would take over. God will not reject a humble heart. I remember realizing that truly God never takes you over because I could have stopped whenever if I wanted. But He LEADS, and you have to keep on walking in faith to cross from one point to another. The question if my tongues were from God or the devil (yes, that is always the question) was resolved because I put that in God's hands right before as well and was completely honest with Him about my fear and not wanting the enemy to rob me of speaking in tongues, so I asked God to confirm one way or the other, meanwhile I would just pray in tongues without ceasing. A couple weeks later, God confirmed my tongues were His because I prayed over a brother with tendonitis and asked him if he minded me praying in tongues because I wasn't sure how to pray for tendonitis. He graciously said yes. God gave him understanding and interpretation of my prayer! Right after, he told me what he understood (and I never would have known to pray those things if I would have used my own mental words) and he was completely healed, praise God! Tongues are a necessity! and I think this is why we are told to pray without ceasing (tongues is the only way to do that) and tongues imho are always better intercession than words in your own understanding. But may God lead us when to pray in the Spirit and when to pray with our own understanding as Corinthians says. Although I never mind hearing someone speak in tongues when they are communing with God, it just seems beautiful to me. HOWEVER, brethren, everyone who might be reading this, there are people who imitate the gifts and this is why WE NEED DISCERNMENT of spirits and I think this is why the whole thing went sour, because the church let people imitate (out of fear, or because they are wolves in sheep's clothing) and acted like it was REAL! and it just smelt bad to anyone who had discernment. But lack of maturity made us look to man to blame the church instead of taking it to God to straighten this out. God bless you, my brother.
Dustin Armstrong stay in there Dustin He will give you the baptism one day soon. It is real, and I got it at the young age of eight. It does give comfort, and power in this life. It is not religion. But it helps in our understanding, and our relationship with the Father both. It’s a terrific thing to sense that refreshing of love. It’s real, and often equips us for ministry for others, and clear direction on what we should be doing.
Dustin, when you read Acts 1, who is Jesus speaking to? His apostles. The "Baptism of the Holy Spirit" was promised only to the apostles (vs.5), and when you turn to the day of Pentecost you will see that the HS fell only on the 12 (Acts 2). Later that day, the 3000, after they were immersed in water, recieved the "gift" of the HS, not the Baptism (Acts 2:38). Now in these days, since the completion of the NT, there is only one baptism (Ep.4:4-5), and that is water baptism. The "signs" that accompanied the disciples were to comfirm the word, we now walk by faith, not by sight. The Samaritans were a mixed race of Jew and Gentile. The Jews had no dealing with them, and regarded them as Gentiles. When Philip went to Samaria, he preached the gospel to them and those who believed were baptized, in water. At this time God had not yet granted repentance to the Gentile nation, that does not happen until later when Peter is summoned to go to the house of Cornelious (Acts 10-11). There are only two events in the NT of the Holy Spirit falling (baptism), first on the apostles Acts 2, then on Cornelious, fulfilling Joels prophecy, "all flesh." Philip was not an apostle, therefore he was not able to lay on hands, on the Samaritans, now disciples, who were baptized, so that they could recieve the "gift" of the Holy Spirit, and whatever the Spirit decided, in regards to speaking in other languages, interpretation, prophecy, etc. This was not a baptism of the HS, but a "gift" as the 3000 Jews baptized in water recieved the gift, and not the baptism of the Holy Spirit. "When the apostles which were at Jerusalem heared that the Samaria had recieved the word of God, they sent Peter and John. Who, when they were come down, prayed for them, that they might receive the Holy Spirit: (For as yet he was fallen upon none of them: only they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.) Then they laid their hands on them, and they "received" the gift of the Holy Spirit" (Acts 8:14-17). Notice that the Samaritans "received" the Holy Spirit, the Holy Spirit did not fall upon them. Again, the Holy Spirit does not fall upon anyone, from the time of the apostles until Cornelious when God grants repentance to the Gentile nation (Acts 11:15-18). Notice (vs.16-17), "then remembered I the word of the Lord, how that he said, John indeed baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit" [Acts 1:5]."Forasmuch then as God gave them the "like" gift as he did unto "us" (apostles), who believed on the Lord Jesus Christ; what was I, that I could withstand God?"
Dustin Armstrong You are absolutely not mistaken about what you are thinking, and seeking. I got saved at five. Baptized in water at eight. Then one Sunday night while At church received the Holy Spirit. I had never felt such love in my life though I came from a loving home. No human taught me how to speak in tongues that night it just came naturally supernaturally. In His name may His presence move on you, and fill you with love and power as well. If continued it is quite a terrific leading, and it’s far easier to discern His direction. Oh, it is hard to describe with just words.
Mom had me baptised when I was young and I still ended up not being a Christian from a relatively young age in my life. My name also happens to be Matthew and I was born on Easter day in 1995.

what about these verses? Acts 19 2 “Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?” he asked them. “No,” they replied, “we don’t know what you mean. What is the Holy Spirit?” 3 “Then what beliefs did you acknowledge at your baptism?” he asked. And they replied, “What John the Baptist taught.” 4 Then Paul pointed out to them that John’s baptism was to demonstrate a desire to turn from sin to God and that those receiving his baptism must then go on to believe in Jesus, the one John said would come later. 5 As soon as they heard this, they were baptized in[a] the name of the Lord Jesus. 6 Then, when Paul laid his hands upon their heads, the Holy Spirit came on them, and they spoke in other languages and prophesied. 7 The men involved were about twelve in number.
They were Jewish believers who had not yet been born again. Read it carefully. They only had the Baptism of John, which was a baptism of repentance pointing towards the coming messiah. They live in transitional times, when the beginning of the gospel of Christ was preached and the church was birthed. There were many Jewish people who had received Johns baptism but hadn't as yet received Christ. Think about it Kev. What was John's baptism and why hadn't these people even heard of the Holy Spirit? The scripture you use simply confirms this truth. God bless man.
Please explain then Acts 8:14-17. These were Samaritans who believed, were baptized into the Name of the Lord Jesus, but had not yet received the Holy Spirit. Also, explain the times that the Believers had subsequent fillings of the Holy Spirit Acts 4:31, or the fact that Paul tells believers to continually (in the Greek) be filled with the Holy Spirit(Ephesians 5:18) Why would Paul tell members of a church he personally ministered to (Acts 19) to be filled with the Holy Spirit if they had to be baptized with the Holy Spirit to even be part of the church? It seems that there is a subsequent experience, but it's not as weird as some churches make it out to be. I think the subsequent fillings empower us to continually walk in Love so we look like Jesus Christ and use our gifts in the Power of the Holy Spirit so God will be magnified and the church edified. InChrist75 Hi friend. The book of Acts is often very misunderstood. It was a piece of descriptive and transitional information that details how God had birthed the church and the gospel of grace was taking shape. In Acts 8, you have the apostle Peter, now shown by God that Samaritans to are included in God's plan of Salvation. Half Jewish, half gentile believers now have the same Holy Spirit as Jewish Christians. This was a bid deal. It isn't until a number of chapters later, that Peter (still observing dietary Jewish customs until that time), is conviced by God that even gentile believers are included in God's plan of salvation by also giving them the Holy Spirit in the Cornelius record. Many often read passages in Acts, assuming and taking for granted that these early believers had all their Theology right. We take it for granted that they had the Gospel of Grace completely worked out and understood in it's fullness. They didn't. Peter made a number of errors and had a deficient understanding of the fulness of all that God was doing. Acts traces what God was doing. Peters vision on the roof was given to him to convince him of the inclusiveness fo the gospel reaching out to even the gentiles. We forget this when we read it and assume they had the scriptures in complete form (New and old testaments) as we have them today. They didn't. I hope you can see the reasonableness of this. The book of Acts folllows the teaching of the Apostles and the great lengths God was going through to spread this New Covenant message of grace through Jesus Christ. Being filled with the Holy Spirit is not the same as being Baptized with the Holy Spirit. Being filled with the Sprit of God is simply being controlled by the Spirit by means of the Word and Grace of God. Show me a believer who is saturated in the Word of God and I will show you a Spirit filled believer. It is not some mystical, weird experience, but a rational, faith embracing, Word directed life that is submitted to the Will and working of God through His Holy Spirit. The book of Acts is not a prescriptive piece of biblical literature, but a descriptive one. Not everything that happened is the book of Acts is a pattern for what must or should happen today. Reading scripture in it's correct historical setting and with an understanding of early customs and the early religious judaizers (who were great enemies of the cross), is the best way to rightly divide the Word of Truth. My Brother, I thank you for taking the time to respond. I however disagree with some of your assertions. I think it is very dangerous to not look at the Book of Acts in a prescriptive manner. What about Acts 15 where it was reaffirmed that Gentiles did not have to get circumcised and keep the law to be Christians? Is that not to be taken prescriptively? There were several major doctrinal points and ministry best practices that are established in the Book of Acts and are affirmed in the Epistles. The Book of Acts gives us a very helpful picture of some of the precepts spoken of by the Lord Jesus and His Apostles. If you could, please read my initial questions more carefully and answer them. You managed to avoid the majority of my questions by re-telling the story of Peter's discovery of the universal nature of the gospel. Please focus specifically on why Paul exhorts Christians in Ephesus who already believed and were already baptized into the body of Christ to "be filled with the Spirit" (Ephesians 6:18). If they are already Believers, why the exhortation? Why tell people to be filled unless they can be not filled? You did not address Acts 4:31, nor did you truly address Acts 8. As a transitional book it is still filled with wonderful truths that apply to a believer today. And no, it is not very dangerous to not look at the book of acts in a prescriptive manner. Do you walk around and pray that your shadow will fall on people and heal them? Have you had visions of 'unclean animals' falling down from heaven on a blanket, telling you to rise and eat? etc, etc. You must read the scriptures in their context and understand their historical setting as you pour over and study God's Word. Being filled with the Holy Spirit is not speaking in tongues after receiving the 'baptism of the Spirit'. Being filled with the Spirit is to be controlled by His desires and submitted to His Will. You may be unaware that I speak in tongues. Came from a pentecostal Church and do believe that tongues is a valid gift for the Church today. However, there is error in what your understanding of being filled with the Spirit means. Let me ask you a question; 'Can somebody be filled with the Spirit, yet not speak in tongues?'. Anyone familiar with Acts chapter 8? If so please explain? I just came across it the other day; it definitely does read as another experience apart from what we have at salvation. Oh shucks and I'm definitely not saying we don't have God's Spirit. But in this portion of the Bible, it seems there's the Spirit in a greater measure. I received the baptism of the Holy Spirit supernaturally when I wAs eight. The church started with it, and it’s still valid. I do not care for prosperity gospel that are charismatics. No one taught me about speaking in tongues, and sensing that power. It’s too bad this gentleman has never experienced it so he is fighting it. He is missing there is a deeper walk with the Lord, with signs following. You may be saved, but not knowing that benefit is a tragedy. Every one is important as the other. But with out having the anointing of the Holy Spirit there is not as strong a reflection of God. He is a lovely gentleman. But he is missing it, and I wish He had the power instead of the form.
For 9 years of my christian faith, I beleived we were sealed with the holy spirit (ephesians 1:13) and there was not a second encounter, "baptism" of "FIRE".... I went to a revival in North, GA as a sceptic. Later that night I was baptized in the spirit (a second encounter) and felt the "fire" of God. I was delivered, empowered and made afresh. There is a second baptism of the holy spirit. I promise.
the disciples already had the Holy Spirit BEFORE they were baptized in it (John 20:22). How were they to receive it twice if there is only "one" encounter. I beleive it is God's desire to give the holy spirit to those who ask him (luke 11:13)
A primary mistake believers make is in thinking that Recieving the Holy Spirit is a different experience than the Holy Spirit baptism when actually we receive the Holy Spirit as a result of the Spirit baptism. This is " the anointing that abideth.
The teachings presented in this video are contrary to what the bible says. First of all, we should start by acknowledging when it was that the apostles first received the Holy Spirit. This is described in John 20:22. This took place the evening after Jesus was resurrected. This is still ~50 days prior to Pentecost. Then on Pentecost, as is well known, the Twelve and others were filled with the Holy Spirit. This is above and beyond what they had received previously. Even though they had already received the Spirit, Jesus had commanded them to wait in Jerusalem for what had been promised, and on Pentecost the promise was fulfilled. Notice that in John 20:22 Jesus breathes on them. Then in Acts 2:2 there is a sound like a mighty rushing wind. Now, in both Hebrew and Greek the word for 'spirit' can also mean 'breath' or 'wind'. Thus we see in these verses a clear description that the amount of the Spirit received in the first instance (corresponding to breath) was in some way less than what was poured out at Pentecost (corresponding to a mighty rushing wind). To whoever reads this: If your experience with the Spirit is like the breath of Jesus - that's great! You're my brother or my sister and I love you. But why not pursue the mighty wind? If we ask for an egg, God will not give us a scorpion. And the Heavenly Father will give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him! (see Luke 11:11-13).
Jeff Gjere We know that the disciples in John 20:22 did not receive the Holy Spirit at that moment, because the Holy Spirit was not yet given since Jesus had not yet been glorified. Therefore when Jesus said receive the Holy Spirit, He was giving a prophetic allusion to the coming Pentecost.
Because He had not yet ascended to the Father. 1 Tim 3:16 "And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory." The glorified Jesus Christ's face shines like the sun, a blinding light for Paul and John fell flat on His face as if dead! It is the glory He had together with the Father before the world was (John 17:1), before Jesus stepped down to earth to temporarily become a little less than the angels. (Heb 2:9)
Earlier that day Jesus told Mary Magdalene that He hadn't yet ascended to the Father, but there is no indication that He still hadn't done so by the time He appeared to the disciples. Second, there isn't any reason to equate the glorifying of Jesus with His ascension to the Father. Rather, we should think He was glorified at the time of His resurrection. 1 Cor. 15:42-43a - "So it is with the resurrection of the dead. What is sown is perishable; what is raised is imperishable. It is sown in dishonor; it is raised in glory."

That is why 1 Tim 3:16 is important here, which states that Jesus was received up into glory. It is clear that this is talking about the ascension, when Jesus went to be with the Father. I undrstand that the pentecostal/charasmatic position requires that the disciples had to have received the Holy Spirit in John 20:22 in order to justify the baptism of the Holy Spirit to be a second occurrence, but unfortunately it requires a twisting of the Scriptures in order to make it work. Besides, the is only one Holy Spirit baptism (Eph 4:5), and this in the born again baptism into the body of Christ. (1 Cor 12:13, Col 2:12, Gal 3:27, Rom 6:3)
I am so sorry for the great loss of the gift of the Holy Spirit. Since you have not had the gift of the Holy Spirit. You are men of the living God. But there is the gift of the Holy Spirit that’ doctrine in organized religion has hurt and stopped just what you need for comfort and strength. Can you explain Mark 16 18 and what it means to an everyday believer? And what does it mean to a person who says he has the gifts of the holy spirit, or fruits of the holy spirit, which is more common, as a sign that they do have the holy spirit?
Amen! As a charismatic, I couldn’t agree with you more. I really appreciate that you brought out the unity of the Spirit. Meaning, one believer doesn’t have more of the Spirit than another believer. You’re either born again or you’re not. The Holy Spirit is a gift by grace through faith. John14 = A constant abiding helper. Even if you do believe a different view of the baptism of the Holy Spirit/infilling, we all have to at least agree that the primary teaching, in the new testament word of God, is the Holy Spirit indwells us. (Constant Companion). New covenant. Whether you feel Him or not all the time. Like what was said in this video Romans 8 is clear, if you do not have the Spirit indwelling you you’re not a child of God. John 14,15,16,17 the promise from the Father This promise is to you your children and to those who are a far off. Don’t you know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who dwells in you. Oh foolish Galatians who has bewitched you. There’s one body and one Spirit The same Spirit that was in Billy Graham is in you. Different gifting but the same Spirit. The same spirit that was in Lonnie frisbee is in you. And the best one, the same Spirit that was in Jesus is in you. If that doesn’t strengthen your faith I don’t know what will. The disciples in Jn 20: 19--22 were born again when Jesus breathed the Holy Ghost into them, Peter was certainly born again at that time, Because Jesus asked him if he loved Him with the Agape love of God, [You can't have the Agape love of God unless you are born again] This is the Spirit baptising us into the body of Christ, Then Jesus baptises us in the Holy Ghost. The disciples in Acts 8: 14--17 were saved, [Born again] and baptised in water, but they weren't baptised in the Holy Ghost until the Apostles laid hands on them. Paul was saved for 3 days before he was baptised in the Holy Ghost, Acts 9: 6--17. And the disciples in Acts 19: 1--6 were born again, They could have been saved for up to 20 years, But they weren't baptised in the Holy Ghost until they met Paul.I hope this helps you.
This teaching is partially correct. There were 2 different experiences. Acts 19 will clarify. If they needed just salvation then why did the disciples lay hands on them to receive. They would have just said to them, "believe on the Lord Jesus and you will be saved." Please open your hearts and ask God to reveal His truth to you. When you get saved you do receive the Holy Spirit. However there is a Baptism of the Holy Ghost and power, which is needed for ministry. It was not only for the Apostles. We need to bear fruits too. We need to win souls for Christ. We need the Baptism of the Holy Spirit. It made a difference in the lives of the disciples. After the Baptism of the Holy Spirit they moved in power, they were not timid any more. God's word is truth. Thanks.
Receiving the Holy Spirit is your salvation. When you believe in your heart the truth that Jesus died for all sin for all time,including yours, your God makes you spiritually alive by giving himself to you to indwelling you forever.

The first mistake the speaker makes in referring to the speaking in tongues in Acts 2 as proof they had been baptized in the Holy Spirit is in him stating that the " tongues" the apostles spoke were known languages. According to the original Greek of the N.T. the word "tongues" is singular not plural. The miracle for those in the crowd wasn't that the apostles began to speak miraculously in their native languages but that the believers all began to speak in one spiritual language and those in the crowd miraculously heard what they were saying in their native languages This is confirmed by the fact that in Acts 2 three times the men in the crowd said " How hear we them speaking in our languages" ? The book of Acts is descriptive and prescriptive.

You're twisting the word of God. The spirit has not been poured out onto All Flesh like you think it has. as a matter of fact the majority of Christians are wicked and have never received anything from God as far as the Spirit being poured on them. Salvation is not granted to the wicked. the spirit has been poured out on the people that have turn from sin and are living for God. And I still don't know that if every one of them have seen the benefits. Most Christians don't even know they don't have the Holy Spirit because God has given them up for sin. One of the very first things Jesus told us to do was the repent to turn from sin.
There is the initial filling with the Holy Spirit and continual refilling through out a believers life.( actually though the Spirit baptism is a filling to overflowing. This overflow causes the born again believer to speak in tongues.
When establishing a NT doctrine we must look at what was taught to and by the apostles. When Jesus taught them something, we must then look at what they did with that teaching, and how they passed it on to the NT church through their writings. When I am teaching on the Promise of the Father (which is the other term that Jesus used for the baptism in the Holy Spirit), I start in the gospels where John said that Jesus would baptize with the Holy Spirit. In Luke 11:5-13 we see Jesus teaching on receiving the Holy Spirit. This is established by the last sentence of that passage: "If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him!” Luke 24:49 & Acts 1:4-8 are two different accounts of the same conversation from the same writer; Luke. Peter reinforces this when he preaches on the day of Pentecost. He quotes Joel and tells them that what they are seeing and hearing is what Joel prophesied (Acts 2:33). He also goes on to tell them to repent and be baptized for the remission of sins and they would also receive the gift of the Holy Spirit, for this promise is to you, your children AND ALL WHO ARE AFAR OFF, AS MANY AS THE LORD OUR GOD WILL CALL (That includes us today!) Next, when you go to Acts chapter 8 you will see many folks get saved. They believe and are baptized (Just like Jesus said). However, they did not receive the Holy Spirit until Peter and John came down and laid hands on them. This dis-spells the doctrine that you get all of the Holy Spirit that there is to get when you are born again. Next, we see the gentiles receive the gospel and they receive the baptism of the Holy Spirit the moment that they believe Peter's preaching/teaching, just exactly as the Jews did, without the laying on of hands. This gift is only for someone who is saved, so now Peter and his Jewish companions realize that the gentiles have also been saved and Peter commands them to be baptized in water. Traveling on to Acts 19 we can see that the baptism of the Holy Spirit was the expected normal Christian experience in the early church. This is determined by Paul's question to the 12 disciples of John the baptist that he comes across: "Into what then were you baptized?" The promise of the Father is still for us today, and every believer can accept, expect and receive this wonderful gift. When I lay hands on someone to receive, they do. Just like the bible teaches. Yes. When I lay hands on someone to receive the baptism of the Holy Spirit there is the initial evidence of speaking in tongues. Please note that I said "Initial evidence". There are many more evidences that they have received the Holy Spirit baptism as time goes on. Just like with Peter. Peter denied that he was with Jesus. He was afraid to tell them that he was indeed one of Jesus' disciples. Then, when He receives the Holy Spirit, look at the new boldness which he displays when he stands up and gives his first sermon on the day of Pentecost. The same people whom he was afraid of he now tells that they killed Jesus and needed to repent of their sins. Huge difference. And it is still the same today.
When people speak in tongues, is it usually another language that some can understand? Cause most people seem to speak a heavenly langauge (angel) or something? Which, no one can understand.
When the apostle Paul taught on this, he said that he spoke with the tongues of men and angels. I heard a testimony from some friends a few years back that as they were walking into a local hospital to visit someone, two ladies were walking out speaking to each other in whatever their native tongue was. One of my friend's kids (who had evidently heard their father pray in the Spirit many times) said excitedly; "Hey dad! They are speaking in your prayer language!" Paul also taught that there are times when we don't know what or how to pray for a person or situation, but the Holy Spirit does. When we pray in the Spirit, it is a perfect prayer spoken with the power that comes from the spoken word. Yes, there is power in our speech, which is why James tells us to mind our tongues. The term, "spoke in an unknown language" means that it was a language unknown by the person speaking it, not that it was a language which no one knows, as some try to teach who are against this reality.
Have you seen any of the other spiritual gifts at work? Such as healing or interpretation? Also, do you know what is the discerning Spirits gift? Not completely sure what that is. Demons and evil/unclean spirits maybe? Cause scripture does tell us to test the spirits. Any experience with demons and evil spirits from your experience?
@Liane Arandia Ive seen the video & listened to it many times as I am taking notes, but I never heard Todd say the gift of tongues have ceased, though I might say I heard it so many times by believers like you who insist on as he said" valuing a certain expression of gifts, more celebrated & pridefully displayed (?)", when faced with a believer who question the gift of tongues. I for one is still seeking the truth about this gift but I never dismissed it to have ceased. although as per my experience & understanding- it is a gift & it will come to us as the holy spirit gives it esp if we ask for it, not that anyone will teach us to babble certain words that has no meaning . Also, it is true that the gifts are given to equip us to glorify God,. it is to manifests God's presence among us. it's supposed to unite us.
yes you need to be baptized in thr spirit. just because you were saved doesnt mean you were baptized in the spirit. i spoke in tongues when i was baptized in the spirit. you cant understand much the things of God until your baptized in the holy spirit until then everything is just head knowledge

When Nicodemus came to the "teacher come from God," he clearly believed in God, as did Paul prior to his conversion. Neither man had yet been baptized in the Holy Spirit; therefore they were under the deception of Satan, their father, and could not possibly see the hidden Christ. We are told by the Scriptures that it is not a decision of man to become a child of God, it is God who chooses His own (John 1:13). Paul states his apostleship by the "will of God" in many of his letters. Paul testifies in Romans 3: 10-18 that there is no one righteous, none that seeks after God, none that does good, and no one has fear of Him...meaning that no natural man, void of being baptized in the Holy Spirit can possibly know God. The Lord has mercy on whom He has mercy and compassion on whom He will have compassion, "So then it is not of him that willeth, nor of him that runneth, but of God that sheweth mercy." (Romans 9:16) Though God is sovereign, so is man responsible to believe the truth and not the lie. The lie being that we have SOMETHING to offer God. No, only a broken heart and a contrite spirit are the acceptable sacrifices to God and He will not despise them (Psalm 51:17) The Lord desires everyone to come to repentance and to cry out earnestly for mercy. (2 Peter 3:9) However, anyone who has not been baptized in the Holy Spirit and felt the fear of God, as did Paul and many numerous examples in the Scriptures, is not a child of God and is under a delusion if he thinks he is. The thief on the cross is one such example (Luke 23: 40-42). The fear of the Lord came upon this thief (are we not all thieves?), he believed that he deserved "condemnation" (as we all do), and he believed that Jesus was God by asking Jesus to remember him when Jesus came into His kingdom (what natural man would think a fellow person being crucified could possibly be God?) This is a clear work of the baptism of the Holy Spirit coming upon this poor, pitiful, polluted one who earlier in the day had even been hurling insults upon Jesus. (Matt 27:44) Oh, that we all had the grace of God to know how poor and pitiful and polluted we are! Wretched woman that I am! Who can deliver me from this body of death? I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord. So then with the mind I myself serve the law of God; but with the flesh the law of sin. My friend, go now read all of Romans 8 for there is therefore now no condemnation to them which are IN Christ Jesus....I recommend a small book by John Bunyan, the author of "The Pilgrim's Progress," called "The Acceptable Sacrifice, The Excellency of a Broken Heart: Showing the Nature, Signs, and Proper Effects of a Contrite Spirit." I recommend all of his writings....60 something in all.Since your lead story again this week proclaimed the "Church as the Hope of the World," I will repeat myself from last week. It is blasphemy assigning a characteristic of only the Lord's to the Church....meaning His people. Jesus Christ is the ONLY hope of the world and Him alone.
A person is baptized (sealed) by the Holy Spirit the NANOSECOND he or she believes the gospel. What this gentleman is saying is 100% truth. Read your bibles people.
Gregg, there is a difference between receiving the Holy Spirit at your salvation and being baptized in the Holy Spirit which is a secondary gift that God gives us. Otherwise Jesus was talking to his disciples in acts chapter 1 as unbelievers and unsaved. That is just one scripture that shows a different experience. The word ‘sealed’ used in Ephesians 1:13 that you are referring to means the following. Plural “Strong’s Greek 4972: To seal, set a seal upon. From sphragis; to stamp for security or preservation; by implication, to keep secret, to attest.” It indicates that the Holy Spirit confirms in us our salvation. It does not have anything to do with being baptized in the Holy Spirit. We are definitely the temple of the Holy Spirit, sealed by the Holy Spirit, but the baptism as shown in Acts 1 and two and revealed in following stories as a separate experience or gift to salvation. When you read Peter and Paul’s Meetings with people in ask you will see this to be true.

@AT Kuhns Your question seems to suggest that scripture must tell us that the book of Acts is transitional for us to claim that it is transitional. That's like asking, "if Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John are "parallel" books, then where does it tell us that scripture?". We know that Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John are parallel because that becomes obvious when we read them and see the similarities. Likewise, Acts is transitional because it obviously describes events in sequential order. In other words, as you read it, you see that the events transition into one another, forming a very fluid narrative about the beginnings of the Church. Hopefully, this explanation helps. God bless
The book of Acts is transitional as far as God also, offering salvation to the gentiles and instructional in that it tells us how to be saved/ born again.
@@robertnieten9844 The Gospel that saves gentiles was give to Paul. He preached the gospel according to the revelation of the mystery. Peter preached a kingdom gospel to Cornelius..it's almost the same as that he preached on the day of Pentecost. It took Peter over 10 years before he went to the Gentiles in Acts 10 and even then he told them "our law does forbids us from accociating with Gentiles" So how was Peter supposed to preach to the Gentiles? He knew that the only way the gentiles could be saved was through the nation of Isreal but he was waiting for them to be restored and then the Gentiles would be blessed through Isreal. By going to Cornelius the early church realised God was doing something different and the Gentiles could be saved outside of Isreal and receive the Holy Spirit. The gospel according to the revelation of the mystery is no Jew of gentile but all one in Christ. Never been revealed until it was shown to Paul. Never prophesied or given to anyone since the world began (Roman 16) Peter never preached the cross as a means of salvation...he accused the Jew " you killed Him" He presented the Messiah to Isreal. Paul preached death, burial and resurrection of Christ to Gentiles as Jesus is not the Messiah to the Gentiles. Peter perched what had been spoken since the world began Peter preached what had been hidden since the world began 2 different messages. How could Peter preach what had been hidden?

Because Acts ch.19 was the Holy Spirit baptism or to be filled to overflowing that's what being " born of the Spirit" is and how the Holy Spirit is recieved as a permanent indwelling to begin with.

There has to be a supernatural moving of the Father choosing a person, and a point of repenting and trusting Jesus. Living for Him with our will laid down before Him. Then He walks beside us, and we can and should be filled with the Holy Spirit. Compromising morally will ruin a person’s testimony, and make them head to hell. Which is horrible.

I grew up in a church that taught this way but was shunned by my family when I went to an Apostolic church that believes in the receiving of the Holy Ghost with evidence of speaking in tongues. I don't see how you throw out so much Bible and put labels on the book of Acts to discredit it's modern usage. I could go into so many examples like Nicodemus, or "Have you received the spirit since you believed?" But the Bible is clear that it's more than just repentance, you need to be baptized of water and Spirit and there is evidence of a sound the scriptures describe. There is receiving baptism of the Holy Ghost in which you are given the ability to pray and speak in tongues ( our Heavenly prayer language ) so we can pray things when we do not know how to pray, as God gives us utterance. And to keep satan from knowing what we are praying when we use it. Then there is the gift of praying in tongues which is different because it is used in a gathering like at church so speak a message from God, then usually someone else has the gift of interpretation, to speak in english etc. what was spoken in tongues.
Julie Nielsen Not everyone is given the same gift though. Unfortunately, some believe God hasn't gifted them if they don't speak in tongues and so they fake it in front of others. This is what puts people off church, as well as the showy use of tongues with no interpreter. That's why Apostle Paul said what he did about edifying the church in public with someone there to interpret. I was terrified the first time I heard a group of people praying for me in tongues, with no interpretation until the very end. Years later I went for prayer with just one man who started praying in another language but a very humble older lady held my hand and interpreted all through, telling me things about my personal prayer over the years that only my Father in heaven could know. So I know it's from God, but must be done in an orderly fashion so as not to frighten or concern anyone that is an outsider. 1 Cor 14:5: "Now I would like all of you to speak in tongues, but even more to prophesy. One who prophesies is greater than one who speaks in tongues unless someone interprets, so that the church may be built up." (NRSV). The word 'ecclesia' is the Greek word which is now translated as 'church', but originally it was 'congregation' before the translators of the King James Bible debated on this and changed it to 'church' in 1611. 'Ecclesia' though has a broader meaning and refers not just specifically to church, but also to a 'gathering'. So Paul was referring not just to building up a church, but to edifying the people you are with or praying for, even if it's out evangelizing. Verses 16-17 says "Otherwise, if you say a blessing with the spirit, how can anyone in the position of an outsider say the "Amen" to your thanksgiving since the outsider does not know what you're saying? For you may give thanks well enough, but the other person is not built up."
Just because a person is going to church does not mean they are filled with the Holy Spirit. A person can be saved who accepts Jesus Christ and is in fellowship, but the baptism of fire comes after one has surrendered completely to Jesus Christ and then they are baptized with fire and the Holy Spirit and anyone who has experienced this knows that there IS certainly a change in their life in a profound way. Remember that it was at Jesus' baptism with water the Holy Spirit alighted upon him and reseted from thence forth.
Something I have found interesting through going into the comments is that many people have put a special value on when they believed in there hearts and that EXPERIENCE. Yes it is an experience that you are holding a value towards. Well is this prayer or so called belief in God backed up to be known as the baptism of the spirit? In this video I hear Todd say that there is some “second blessing” that these people receive and this isn’t too put a knock on Todd and to try to condemn him but to say that the book of Acts was just a transitional book and that it doesn’t apply to us now I believe is wrong. Where and when does it say in the Bible does it put these scriptures to null affect. Where in Acts 19:1-5 it shows people who were already believers receiving the baptism in water in Jesus name and recieving the Holy Ghost. This was not just given to Jews but to Samaritans and gentiles as-well the same way. A passage of scripture that I really find interesting and love is in Acts 8:12-17 It reads “But when they believed Philip preaching the things concerning the kingdom of God, and the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized, both men and women. Then Simon himself believed also: and when he was baptized, he continued with Philip, and wondered, beholding the miracles and signs which were done. Now when the apostles which were at Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the word of God, they sent unto them Peter and John: Who, when they were come down, prayed for them, that they might receive the Holy Ghost: (For as yet he was fallen upon none of them: only they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.) Then laid they their hands on them, and they received the Holy Ghost.” Acts 8:12-17 KJV Now in this scripture we learn a few things. We learn this group of Samaritans were (1) Believers (2) baptized in Jesus name (3) saw signs and miracles (4) were yet to the baptism of the Holy Spirit. (5) They received the spirit when Peter and John laid hands on them So contrary to what Todd believes the Samaritans didn’t receive the Holy Spirit when they first believed but when Peter and John Laid hands on them. They hadn’t just had one blessing but many and still didn’t have the Holy Spirit! Until hands were laid on them. Something this scripture doesn’t say is that they spoke in tongues. It can be inferred though because how else would have Phillip had known that they hadn’t received the Holy Spirit yet? What could it possibly be if it wasn’t one of the things listed above? Peter John received it by speaking in tongues, why would they believe it would come some other way? The answer is quite simple they wouldn’t. Jesus said we must be born of water and spirit. The true Plan of salvation is found in the acts 2:38 its (1) Repent (2) be baptized in Jesus name (3) receive the infilling of the Holy Ghost. The Bible will not contradict itself. Jesus hasn’t changed. I will listen and obey the Lord Jesus. Matthew 7:21 says those who will make it into the kingdom of heaven will do the will of the Father. I was curious. What is the age requirement for baptism? I have seen churches baptize as young as 7 yr old children. And I thought there was something in the bible that once you become baptized, you shouldnt keep on living the "old" way but a changed life in Christ? So how can children really know the importance of baptism? I was 13 when I got baptized. But...I fell away from Christian living. Now that I have a family, I strive to walk in Jesus ways to be example for my kids. So a question came up, do I get baptized again? I am so confused. Please help! Thank you!
If the apostles and believers of that day had a common experience then we should have the same experience as they did, not a different one. The promise that they had would continue as long as God keeps calling people to himself. It is what happened in Acts 2:4, Acts 10, Acts 19 which was nearly 20 years after the events of Acts 2. Here are the cases in scripture that show that being filled with the Holy Spirit is separate from salvation by faith. Acts 2:38-39 Peter said to them, "Repent, and each of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. 39 For the promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off, as many as the Lord our God will call to Himself. NASU Acts 8:14-17 Now when the apostles in Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the word of God, they sent them Peter and John, 15 who came down and prayed for them that they might receive the Holy Spirit. 16 For He had not yet fallen upon any of them; they had simply been baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. 17 Then they began laying their hands on them, and they were receiving the Holy Spirit. They were believers and had not received the Holy Spirit. They were baptized. NASU Notice that fell upon, gift, poured out, received and tongues are used in the same context and refer to the same event. They knew they received the Holy Spirit because they heard them speak with tongues. In acts 2:4, Acts 10:44-48 and Acts 19:1-6 the same thing happened. They spoke with tongues. It is the common denominator. In Acts 8 Simon the sorcerer was willing to pay money for it. This proves that there was something visible that he saw that he wanted. Being filled with the Holy Spirit is a separate experience from salvation. In some cases they received it before being water baptized and in others after being water baptized. It is the gift of the Holy Spirit. The gift of the Holy Spirit is a supernatural prayer language. In Acts 2:4 they all spoke in tongues, in 1st Corinthians Paul said I thank may God I speak in tongues more than you all. They all spoke in tongues. This prayer language builds a person up in the Holy Ghost. All of the apostle’s churches spoke in tongues. Tongues is the door that leads to the nine gifts of the Spirit. Without tongues you won’t have the rest. I have never seen a church without it that has the power of God and does the same thing Jesus did. In 1st Corinthians 12:13 For by one Spirit we were all baptized into one body, whether Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or free, and we were all made to drink of one Spirit. NASU John 14:17 the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it does not see Him or know Him, but you know Him because He abides with you and will be in you. NASU John 14:17 shows that it is possible for the spirit to be with you but not fill you. The baptism in 1 Corinthians 12:13 is water baptism. If this is a proof that all believers are filled with the Holy Spirit then in Acts 8:16 they baptized unbelievers because they were not filled with the Holy Spirit. Some denominations teach that you are not saved unless you speak in tongues They can use 1st Corinthians 12:13 to prove you are not saved unless you speak in tongues because speaking in tongues is the proof that you are filled with the Holy Spirit.. This pastor tries to use it to prove you are automatically filled with the Holy Spirit at salvation. I don’t believe that it is a proof text for being filled with the Spirit. The book of Acts is an example for us to follow 2 Tim 3:16 All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; 17 so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work.

When I received the Holy Spirit I didn’t speak in tongues... but I felt like a 2,000 lb. weight was taken off my shoulders, and I felt electrified.... I had power to overcome my sins, everything looked brighter, it was like a black cloud over my entire house was removed.... I feel I was delivered from demonic spirits for sure.... Thank you God!!

After all, the great majority of evangelicals and protestants throughout the ages never received the gift of tongues that you postulate, yet were very fruitful in brining souls to Christ and proclaiming the truth of the gospel. I had so much struggle with sin after I got saved and I was a complete failure at being obedient but I never doubted my relationship with Christ because my conversion experience was so powerful! After 20 years of trying so hard to live the Christian life I finally turned from myself and doing things my way and I repented from focusing on myself and my appearance. I could finally see Christ in the Bible as Holy and pure and righteous! I bowed my will to everything the Bible said to do and I finally found power to obey. Now I would rather die than to dishonor Him with a disobedient life. I realize I don’t obey perfectly and I am still sinful but my affections for sin are now my affections for Christ. I finally had a new regenerated heart and it has made all the difference. I say this to beware of powerful emotional experiences because I never doubted mine and I did not have saving faith or the Holy Spirit because I did not understand the gospel the way I needed to. God gave me the Holy Spirit the day I truly repented and believed and that was also granted by Him. I hope this helps anyone struggling and trying so hard but failing. Matthew 7:18 Remember a good tree cannot produce bad fruit. If your Christian life is marked by bad fruit maybe you need to re-examine your understanding of the Gospel and who Christ really is, He is Lord.
The baptism in the Holy Spirit, is, for me, an unbelievable empowerment in the christian walk with Jesus Christ.
I knew I had the Holy Spirit in me because I could no longer do the things I used to do. I would get these convictions that I could not ignore!

Holy Spirit Baptism: when person receives Holy Spirit (person) He starts convicting him showing him his sins and then that person feels bad and says I will not do this again just like mother holding child's ear and asking him will u do it again and child says No mummy...so God gives power to that person to overcome/fight sin. Then comes transformation...
It’s the process through justification and sanctification. I was baptized in the Holy Spirit and asked god to renew my mind body and soul and the next day I woke up and I was totally different human being. Still am. I stay away from sin, I stopped cursing, I don’t say gods name in vein no more and I feel like a floating cloud. Also I received the gifts of tongues. Was not in a fluent language but in a language the spirit can speak through me that only god understands. He helps me pray. It’s like a straight line to god when I pray.

Thats always been the question that pops up for me with the ones who have had the "experience" of speaking in tongues.. I thought we are supposed to always have it interpreted? Makes me question if it really did happen or was just a stirred up fleshly experience.
I grew up speaking tongues in my christian life. Never felt a change or lifted up. I did for like 4 to 5 years. Later in scriptures are written differrent whata I was taught

But interpreting speaking in tongues when it is your own prayer language is not needed because you are speaking to God. He understands immediately because it is his own language/s. (He has unlimited languages)
There is a difference between being baptized in the Holy Spirit-a personal experience - and the Gifts of the Holy Spirit, one of which is speaking in tongues is purely for the corporate body - the church and therefore needs an interpretation so that ‘all may be edified’.
I know 3 people in my church who have the gift of interpretation and every time there is a tongue it is interpreted. It is such an edifying and exciting time for the church!

And no where that says their is a personal prayer language that was added in the early 1900s, when the new denomination pentecostal realized they couldn't really speak in tounges which everyone agreed was a known language that the speaker didn't know. I feel like some people question "have I been filled with the Holy Spirit or not?" because people think you can only be filled if you speak in tongues. I always questioned weather I'm filled or not because I never spoke in tongues, but now I have a better understanding of the Holy Spirit and can say that I have been filled.
Just a reminder, that yes you can speak in tongues and be filled, but that doesn't mean the Holy Spirit will always be with you. I know a lot of people who were filled and turn back to wickedness.
What causes us to "speak in tongues"( one heavenly language) is when we are being filled we must yield our tongue to the Spirit.That causes the overflowing Spirit baptism( born of Spirit) and the Spirit becomes one with our spirit and remains in us forever.

I wasn't baptized in the Holy Spirit until about a year after I got saved. I received Jesus as my Lord and Savior, then the next year I heard about receiving baptism of the Holy Spirit. I was told to ask God for it and receive it . A day or so later I started to hear things in my spirit. Then I let them come out of my spirit and out of my mouth later that day.

That person still has their own free will to choose to receive Jesus or not. It may change their heart or not. But, it will make them more open to salvation. It all depends upon the person.
We have to come to God through receiving Jesus as our Lord and Savior. He is the door to our salvation.
It's God's will for us all to be saved, but, He will not force us, because He created us to be His children and not like robots that have to obey Him. He didn't want to force us to love Him.

It is amazing how someone can describe something they know so little about. One does not have to be more spiritual to receive the Baptism in the Holy Spirit but it is available.
I was saved and received the Holy Spirit when I was about eleven. But I knew something was still missing for the Word of God still did not really come alive to me. When I was 30 I was baptized in the Spirit and spoke in tongues and the Word of God became alive. Paul said he was glad he spoke in tongues and said to forbid not to speak in tongues. I'm sorry but an argument will just not trump an experience based on the Bible. I would have gone to Heaven before I received the baptism but there is just no comparison to my life before and since.

I believe I felt the Holy Spirit enter my body a few times. I'm assuming that means In the Spirit for intoxicating short-term periods. I believe it was God telling me he was there when I was showing total true faith. It was like several huge coincidence pertaining to the Father hinting I needed baptism. It was the realest experience I ever felt. And once when I was a kid he proved himself to me once. I tried to shut off my street light with mind control. I asked God to show me a sign and shut off our street light and as soon as I said light the light went out. Either that was a really major coincidence or God was showing me he was there. That really scared me as a kid. What are the odds.
I’ll tell you know this pastor is correct: I have been saved for years, and during that time I was unsettled by hearing that I hadn’t yet been “baptized in the spirit”. Of course, I wanted everything Jesus had for me. So for YEARS I prayed for this fervently, I fasted, I meditated, I interacted with people and churches who believe this is a special thing that not all Christians get. I wept and wept on my knees for YEARS asking Jesus for this.
Nothing ever happened.
Now of course you don’t know my heart which is fine because you don’t have to judge my heart, but I do. And God does. And he knows what I begged for and cried about and all the nights I went through feeling like he maybe didn’t love me because of this.
If the baptism of the Holy Spirit was something extra beyond believing in Jesus as our savior, he would have given it to me. There is nothing I could have done more to plead with him about this. I would have it. But he didn’t. And if He loves me, and I have surrendered my life to him, and I haven’t had this experience, then it’s not necessary.
That’s how I know.

Go to a Pentecostal church and have them lay hands on you as Paul did in Acts ch.19 and pray with you to recieve the Holy Spirit baptism. That's what I did .

What about Acts 8: 15-17 where Peter and John had to pray for new believers to receive the Holy Spirit? It says they were believers. Doesn’t that mean they were saved? Yet it plainly states they didn’t receive the Holy Spirit until Peter and John laid hands on them. Please explain.

This is actually where i stumbled - I was in a church who did Nicky Gumble's Alpha course - great Christology, then on the Holy Spirit weekend way. I was asked after saying yes to Jesus as Lord and Saviour if I wanted to be filled with the Holy Spirit - which is incorrect. At the point of accepting Jesus, the new believer is sealed/deposited with the Holy Spirit. Another experience I had also on the same program was to be "re-filled" with the Holy Spirit. The last completely abberant experience i had was that there would then be an introduction of Pentecostal doctrines and beliefs which then alllowed me to fratenise the charismatic and ultimately the prosperity. 1 week after the Holy Spirit weekend I already started to see gifts (Dreams, Visions, Word of knowledge, prayer and intercession). The baptism of the Holy Spirit was presented to me incorrectly which had very bad consequences. Thanks for clarifying.

Respectfully, I feel that this video leaves out a very important section of Acts. Paul meets a group of approximately 12 disciples, and he asks them if they received the Holy Spirit when they believed on Christ. They tell him that they have never heard of the Holy Spirit, so Paul completes their understanding, baptizes them in the name of Jesus Christ, and then lays hands on them and they receive the Holy Spirit and speak in toungues on the spot.
So, how is it that these people were disciples (meaning they believed on Christ) and yet didn’t immediately receive the Holy Spirit upon belief? This seems to indicate that somehow the baptism of the Holy Spirit happens subsequent to profession of faith.
Now mind you, I believe on Jesus and have not received this baptism of the Holy Spirit as described in Acts. I have never spoken in toungues. But that seems to be what Acts is telling us, so I have been praying for God to baptize me in the spirit. If I’m mistaken about this section of Acts, I’m open to correction from the Word.
Not sure if you'll see this, but respectfully as well, those disciples in Acts 19 were baptized "...into John's baptism," which was John's message of repentance. It is quite possible they were taught by Apollos who knew well the OT Scriptures able to teach on the Messiah tho not fully understanding Christian truth until Aquila and Pricilla took him aside. So they did believe in the Messiah as the OT taught, but they were not baptized in Who came after John: Christ. Make sense? Then we get into the controversy of "speaking in tongues and prophesying" and whether these were sign gifts or still operating today. Each side of that debate has folks 100% committed to their position with little to no chance of crossing to the other side. Wherever you fall on that debate, ultimately we are to practice love and "endeavoring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace." I've found that often grace needs to be extended to those who believe other than we do b/c, ultimately, that issue is not the basis of salvation. It is a side issue.
Dear Dustin, you are right, that is Acts 19. There is another example of believers that were already baptized in the name of Jesus but had not received the Holy Spirit, it is in Acts 8:14-17. This scriptures shows that there are two baptisms: in the name of Jesus and baptism of the holy spirit . Also, John 20:22 tells us that Jesus, having already risen from the dead and before the ascension breathed on the apostles and told them to 'receive the Spirit' but they later were baptized in the Holy Spirit in Acts 2. So there are 2 to 3 witnesses in scripture that indicate we can be saved but not empowered. We must seek the baptism of the HS, like you said!
Also, a personal testimony: I received Jesus as my personal Saviour at age 9 and only at age 22 did I learn I could ask for the Baptism of the Holy Spirit! During all that time, I truly did not have the same amount of revelation I got after receiving the Baptism of the Holy Spirit. Also, no one laid hands on me, but a brother patiently answered all my questions using only scripture without saying waht I could or couldn't do. Scripture is all you need! I also remember deciding I would not give into fear about thinking if tongues was for me or not, because I know the devil will always try to keep blessings far from us using fear or false humility. This brother said: if you want, I can lay hands on you to receive the baptism, or you can just receive it by yourself by faith. I decided on the latter (now I know why, because God is using me to minister to people online) and went to my dorm room (we were in college) and received the baptism of the HS by faith, just like I understand you did. I could have stopped there, but I pressed on and said, thank you Jesus for the gift of tongues and decided to start speaking whatever syllables in all humility and hope God would take over. God will not reject a humble heart. I remember realizing that truly God never takes you over because I could have stopped whenever if I wanted. But He LEADS, and you have to keep on walking in faith to cross from one point to another.
The question if my tongues were from God or the devil (yes, that is always the question) was resolved because I put that in God's hands right before as well and was completely honest with Him about my fear and not wanting the enemy to rob me of speaking in tongues, so I asked God to confirm one way or the other, meanwhile I would just pray in tongues without ceasing. A couple weeks later, God confirmed my tongues were His because I prayed over a brother with tendonitis and asked him if he minded me praying in tongues because I wasn't sure how to pray for tendonitis. He graciously said yes. God gave him understanding and interpretation of my prayer! Right after, he told me what he understood (and I never would have known to pray those things if I would have used my own mental words) and he was completely healed, praise God! Tongues are a necessity! and I think this is why we are told to pray without ceasing (tongues is the only way to do that) and tongues imho are always better intercession than words in your own understanding. But may God lead us when to pray in the Spirit and when to pray with our own understanding as Corinthians says. Although I never mind hearing someone speak in tongues when they are communing with God, it just seems beautiful to me.
HOWEVER, brethren, everyone who might be reading this, there are people who imitate the gifts and this is why WE NEED DISCERNMENT of spirits and I think this is why the whole thing went sour, because the church let people imitate (out of fear, or because they are wolves in sheep's clothing) and acted like it was REAL! and it just smelt bad to anyone who had discernment. But lack of maturity made us look to man to blame the church instead of taking it to God to straighten this out. God bless you, my brother.
Dustin Armstrong stay in there Dustin He will give you the baptism one day soon. It is real, and I got it at the young age of eight. It does give comfort, and power in this life. It is not religion. But it helps in our understanding, and our relationship with the Father both. It’s a terrific thing to sense that refreshing of love. It’s real, and often equips us for ministry for others, and clear direction on what we should be doing.
Dustin, when you read Acts 1, who is Jesus speaking to? His apostles.
The "Baptism of the Holy Spirit" was promised only to the apostles (vs.5), and when you turn to the day of Pentecost you will see that the HS fell only on the 12 (Acts 2).
Later that day, the 3000, after they were immersed in water, recieved the "gift" of the HS, not the Baptism (Acts 2:38).
Now in these days, since the completion of the NT, there is only one baptism (Ep.4:4-5), and that is water baptism. The "signs" that accompanied the disciples were to comfirm the word, we now walk by faith, not by sight.
The Samaritans were a mixed race of Jew and Gentile. The Jews had no dealing with them, and regarded them as Gentiles. When Philip went to Samaria, he preached the gospel to them and those who believed were baptized, in water.
At this time God had not yet granted repentance to the Gentile nation, that does not happen until later when Peter is summoned to go to the house of Cornelious (Acts 10-11).
There are only two events in the NT of the Holy Spirit falling (baptism), first on the apostles Acts 2, then on Cornelious, fulfilling Joels prophecy, "all flesh."
Philip was not an apostle, therefore he was not able to lay on hands, on the Samaritans, now disciples, who were baptized, so that they could recieve the "gift" of the Holy Spirit, and whatever the Spirit decided, in regards to speaking in other languages, interpretation, prophecy, etc. This was not a baptism of the HS, but a "gift" as the 3000 Jews baptized in water recieved the gift, and not the baptism of the Holy Spirit.
"When the apostles which were at Jerusalem heared that the Samaria had recieved the word of God, they sent Peter and John.
Who, when they were come down, prayed for them, that they might receive the Holy Spirit: (For as yet he was fallen upon none of them: only they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.) Then they laid their hands on them, and they "received" the gift of the Holy Spirit" (Acts 8:14-17).
Notice that the Samaritans "received" the Holy Spirit, the Holy Spirit did not fall upon them.
Again, the Holy Spirit does not fall upon anyone, from the time of the apostles until Cornelious when God grants repentance to the Gentile nation (Acts 11:15-18).
Notice (vs.16-17), "then remembered I the word of the Lord, how that he said, John indeed baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit" [Acts 1:5]."Forasmuch then as God gave them the "like" gift as he did unto "us" (apostles), who believed on the Lord Jesus Christ; what was I, that I could withstand God?"

thinking, and seeking. I got saved at five. Baptized in water at eight. Then one Sunday night while At church received the Holy Spirit. I had never felt such love in my life though I came from a loving home. No human taught me how to speak in tongues that night it just came naturally supernaturally. In His name may His presence move on you, and fill you with love and power as well. If continued it is quite a terrific leading, and it’s far easier to discern His direction. Oh, it is hard to describe with just words.
Mom had me baptised when I was young and I still ended up not being a Christian from a relatively young age in my life.

They were Jewish believers who had not yet been born again. Read it carefully. They only had the Baptism of John, which was a baptism of repentance pointing towards the coming messiah. They live in transitional times, when the beginning of the gospel of Christ was preached and the church was birthed. There were many Jewish people who had received Johns baptism but hadn't as yet received Christ. Think about it Kev. What was John's baptism and why hadn't these people even heard of the Holy Spirit? The scripture you use simply confirms this truth. God bless man.
Please explain then Acts 8:14-17. These were Samaritans who believed, were baptized into the Name of the Lord Jesus, but had not yet received the Holy Spirit. Also, explain the times that the Believers had subsequent fillings of the Holy Spirit Acts 4:31, or the fact that Paul tells believers to continually (in the Greek) be filled with the Holy Spirit(Ephesians 5:18) Why would Paul tell members of a church he personally ministered to (Acts 19) to be filled with the Holy Spirit if they had to be baptized with the Holy Spirit to even be part of the church? It seems that there is a subsequent experience, but it's not as weird as some churches make it out to be. I think the subsequent fillings empower us to continually walk in Love so we look like Jesus Christ and use our gifts in the Power of the Holy Spirit so God will be magnified and the church edified. InChrist75 Hi friend. The book of Acts is often very misunderstood. It was a piece of descriptive and transitional information that details how God had birthed the church and the gospel of grace was taking shape. In Acts 8, you have the apostle Peter, now shown by God that Samaritans to are included in God's plan of Salvation. Half Jewish, half gentile believers now have the same Holy Spirit as Jewish Christians. This was a bid deal. It isn't until a number of chapters later, that Peter (still observing dietary Jewish customs until that time), is conviced by God that even gentile believers are included in God's plan of salvation by also giving them the Holy Spirit in the Cornelius record. Many often read passages in Acts, assuming and taking for granted that these early believers had all their Theology right. We take it for granted that they had the Gospel of Grace completely worked out and understood in it's fullness. They didn't. Peter made a number of errors and had a deficient understanding of the fulness of all that God was doing. Acts traces what God was doing. Peters vision on the roof was given to him to convince him of the inclusiveness fo the gospel reaching out to even the gentiles. We forget this when we read it and assume they had the scriptures in complete form (New and old testaments) as we have them today. They didn't. I hope you can see the reasonableness of this. The book of Acts folllows the teaching of the Apostles and the great lengths God was going through to spread this New Covenant message of grace through Jesus Christ. Being filled with the Holy Spirit is not the same as being Baptized with the Holy Spirit. Being filled with the Sprit of God is simply being controlled by the Spirit by means of the Word and Grace of God. Show me a believer who is saturated in the Word of God and I will show you a Spirit filled believer. It is not some mystical, weird experience, but a rational, faith embracing, Word directed life that is submitted to the Will and working of God through His Holy Spirit. The book of Acts is not a prescriptive piece of biblical literature, but a descriptive one. Not everything that happened is the book of Acts is a pattern for what must or should happen today. Reading scripture in it's correct historical setting and with an understanding of early customs and the early religious judaizers (who were great enemies of the cross), is the best way to rightly divide the Word of Truth. Read our bibles, study and pray and we will be Spirit Filled. Simple I reckon. God bless
My Brother, I thank you for taking the time to respond. I however disagree with some of your assertions. I think it is very dangerous to not look at the Book of Acts in a prescriptive manner. What about Acts 15 where it was reaffirmed that Gentiles did not have to get circumcised and keep the law to be Christians? Is that not to be taken prescriptively? There were several major doctrinal points and ministry best practices that are established in the Book of Acts and are affirmed in the Epistles. The Book of Acts gives us a very helpful picture of some of the precepts spoken of by the Lord Jesus and His Apostles. If you could, please read my initial questions more carefully and answer them. You managed to avoid the majority of my questions by re-telling the story of Peter's discovery of the universal nature of the gospel. Please focus specifically on why Paul exhorts Christians in Ephesus who already believed and were already baptized into the body of Christ to "be filled with the Spirit" (Ephesians 6:18). If they are already Believers, why the exhortation? Why tell people to be filled unless they can be not filled? You did not address Acts 4:31, nor did you truly address Acts 8. So, please try to give your account of these questions, because you, unintentionally I think, side stepped them. Grace and Peace
InChrist75 Hi. Of course I don't discount the nature of doctrinal issues that arise in the book of acts. As a transitional book it is still filled with wonderful truths that apply to a believer today. And no, it is not very dangerous to not look at the book of acts in a prescriptive manner. Do you walk around and pray that your shadow will fall on people and heal them? Have you had visions of 'unclean animals' falling down from heaven on a blanket, telling you to rise and eat? etc, etc. You must read the scriptures in their context and understand their historical setting as you pour over and study God's Word. Being filled with the Holy Spirit is not speaking in tongues after receiving the 'baptism of the Spirit'. Being filled with the Spirit is to be controlled by His desires and submitted to His Will. You may be unaware that I speak in tongues. Came from a pentecostal Church and do believe that tongues is a valid gift for the Church today. However, there is error in what your understanding of being filled with the Spirit means. Let me ask you a question; 'Can somebody be filled with the Spirit, yet not speak in tongues?'. I'm here for the exact same reason! Got me wondering whether or not I have the Holy Spirit.
Oh shucks and I'm definitely not saying we don't have God's Spirit. But in this portion of the Bible, it seems there's the Spirit in a greater measure. I received the baptism of the Holy Spirit supernaturally when I wAs eight. The church started with it, and it’s still valid. I do not care for prosperity gospel that are charismatics. No one taught me about speaking in tongues, and sensing that power. It’s too bad this gentleman has never experienced it so he is fighting it. He is missing there is a deeper walk with the Lord, with signs following. You may be saved, but not knowing that benefit is a tragedy. Every one is important as the other. But with out having the anointing of the Holy Spirit there is not as strong a reflection of God. He is a lovely gentleman. But he is missing it, and I wish He had the power instead of the form.

For 9 years of my christian faith, I beleived we were sealed with the holy spirit (ephesians 1:13) and there was not a second encounter, "baptism" of "FIRE".... I went to a revival in North, GA as a sceptic. Later that night I was baptized in the spirit (a second encounter) and felt the "fire" of God. I was delivered, empowered and made afresh. There is a second baptism of the holy spirit. I promise.
the disciples already had the Holy Spirit BEFORE they were baptized in it (John 20:22). How were they to receive it twice if there is only "one" encounter. I beleive it is God's desire to give the holy spirit to those who ask him (luke 11:13)

A primary mistake believers make is in thinking that Recieving the Holy Spirit is a different experience than the Holy Spirit baptism when actually we receive the Holy Spirit as a result of the Spirit baptism. This is " the anointing that abideth.
The teachings presented in this video are contrary to what the bible says.
First of all, we should start by acknowledging when it was that the apostles first received the Holy Spirit. This is described in John 20:22. This took place the evening after Jesus was resurrected. This is still ~50 days prior to Pentecost.
Then on Pentecost, as is well known, the Twelve and others were filled with the Holy Spirit. This is above and beyond what they had received previously. Even though they had already received the Spirit, Jesus had commanded them to wait in Jerusalem for what had been promised, and on Pentecost the promise was fulfilled.
Notice that in John 20:22 Jesus breathes on them. Then in Acts 2:2 there is a sound like a mighty rushing wind. Now, in both Hebrew and Greek the word for 'spirit' can also mean 'breath' or 'wind'. Thus we see in these verses a clear description that the amount of the Spirit received in the first instance (corresponding to breath) was in some way less than what was poured out at Pentecost (corresponding to a mighty rushing wind).
To whoever reads this: If your experience with the Spirit is like the breath of Jesus - that's great! You're my brother or my sister and I love you. But why not pursue the mighty wind? If we ask for an egg, God will not give us a scorpion. And the Heavenly Father will give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him! (see Luke 11:11-13).
Jeff Gjere We know that the disciples in John 20:22 did not receive the Holy Spirit at that moment, because the Holy Spirit was not yet given since Jesus had not yet been glorified. Therefore when Jesus said receive the Holy Spirit, He was giving a prophetic allusion to the coming Pentecost.
Why do you say that Jesus was not yet glorified?
Because He had not yet ascended to the Father.

The glorified Jesus Christ's face shines like the sun, a blinding light for Paul and John fell flat on His face as if dead! It is the glory He had together with the Father before the world was (John 17:1), before Jesus stepped down to earth to temporarily become a little less than the angels. (Heb 2:9)
Earlier that day Jesus told Mary Magdalene that He hadn't yet ascended to the Father, but there is no indication that He still hadn't done so by the time He appeared to the disciples.
Second, there isn't any reason to equate the glorifying of Jesus with His ascension to the Father. Rather, we should think He was glorified at the time of His resurrection. 1 Cor. 15:42-43a - "So it is with the resurrection of the dead. What is sown is perishable; what is raised is imperishable. It is sown in dishonor; it is raised in glory."

That is why 1 Tim 3:16 is important here, which states that Jesus was received up into glory. It is clear that this is talking about the ascension, when Jesus went to be with the Father.
I undrstand that the pentecostal/charasmatic position requires that the disciples had to have received the Holy Spirit in John 20:22 in order to justify the baptism of the Holy Spirit to be a second occurrence, but unfortunately it requires a twisting of the Scriptures in order to make it work.
Besides, the is only one Holy Spirit baptism (Eph 4:5), and this in the born again baptism into the body of Christ. (1 Cor 12:13, Col 2:12, Gal 3:27, Rom 6:3)

But there is the gift of the Holy Spirit that’ doctrine in organized religion has hurt and stopped just what you need for comfort and strength. I really appreciate that you brought out the unity of the Spirit. Meaning, one believer doesn’t have more of the Spirit than another believer. You’re either born again or you’re not. The Holy Spirit is a gift by grace through faith.

Even if you do believe a different view of the baptism of the Holy Spirit/infilling, we all have to at least agree that the primary teaching, in the new testament word of God, is the Holy Spirit indwells us.

The more I grow in the Bible the more I grow in grace, and the more I grow in how much God is for us. I think a lot of us have a bit of a legalistic view of the Holy Spirit.

The disciples in Jn 20: 19--22 were born again when Jesus breathed the Holy Ghost into them, Peter was certainly born again at that time, Because Jesus asked him if he loved Him with the Agape love of God, [You can't have the Agape love of God unless you are born again] This is the Spirit baptising us into the body of Christ, Then Jesus baptises us in the Holy Ghost. The disciples in Acts 8: 14--17 were saved, [Born again] and baptised in water, but they weren't baptised in the Holy Ghost until the Apostles laid hands on them. Paul was saved for 3 days before he was baptised in the Holy Ghost, Acts 9: 6--17. And the disciples in Acts 19: 1--6 were born again, They could have been saved for up to 20 years, But they weren't baptised in the Holy Ghost until they met Paul.I hope this helps you.
This teaching is partially correct. There were 2 different experiences. Acts 19 will clarify. If they needed just salvation then why did the disciples lay hands on them to receive. They would have just said to them, "believe on the Lord Jesus and you will be saved." Please open your hearts and ask God to reveal His truth to you.
When you get saved you do receive the Holy Spirit. However there is a Baptism of the Holy Ghost and power, which is needed for ministry. It was not only for the Apostles. We need to bear fruits too. We need to win souls for Christ. We need the Baptism of the Holy Spirit. It made a difference in the lives of the disciples. Receiving the Holy Spirit is your salvation. When you believe in your heart the truth that Jesus died for all sin for all time,including yours, your God makes you spiritually alive by giving himself to you to indwelling you forever.
Most of the churches that exist the Holy Spirit does not live there, getting baptized in the Holy Spirit is a blessing from God and a big event in someone’s life.
The first mistake the speaker makes in referring to the speaking in tongues in Acts 2 as proof they had been baptized in the Holy Spirit is in him stating that the " tongues" the apostles spoke were known languages. According to the original Greek of the N.T. the word "tongues" is singular not plural.
The miracle for those in the crowd wasn't that the apostles began to speak miraculously in their native languages but that the believers all began to speak in one spiritual language and those in the crowd miraculously heard what they were saying in their native languages
This is confirmed by the fact that in Acts 2 three times the men in the crowd said " How hear we them speaking in our languages" ? The book of Acts is descriptive and prescriptive.

You're twisting the word of God. The spirit has not been poured out onto All Flesh like you think it has. as a matter of fact the majority of Christians are wicked and have never received anything from God as far as the Spirit being poured on them. Salvation is not granted to the wicked. the spirit has been poured out on the people that have turn from sin and are living for God. And I still don't know that if every one of them have seen the benefits. Most Christians don't even know they don't have the Holy Spirit because God has given them up for sin. One of the very first things Jesus told us to do was the repent to turn from sin.

There is the initial filling with the Holy Spirit and continual refilling through out a believers life.( actually though the Spirit baptism is a filling to overflowing. This overflow causes the born again believer to speak in tongues.

When establishing a NT doctrine we must look at what was taught to and by the apostles. When Jesus taught them something, we must then look at what they did with that teaching, and how they passed it on to the NT church through their writings.
When I am teaching on the Promise of the Father (which is the other term that Jesus used for the baptism in the Holy Spirit),
I start in the gospels where John said that Jesus would baptize with the Holy Spirit. In Luke 11:5-13 we see Jesus teaching on receiving the Holy Spirit. This is established by the last sentence of that passage:
"If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him!”
Luke 24:49 & Acts 1:4-8 are two different accounts of the same conversation from the same writer; Luke.
Peter reinforces this when he preaches on the day of Pentecost. He quotes Joel and tells them that what they are seeing and hearing is what Joel prophesied (Acts 2:33). He also goes on to tell them to repent and be baptized for the remission of sins and they would also receive the gift of the Holy Spirit, for this promise is to you, your children AND ALL WHO ARE AFAR OFF, AS MANY AS THE LORD OUR GOD WILL CALL (That includes us today!)
Next, when you go to Acts chapter 8 you will see many folks get saved. They believe and are baptized (Just like Jesus said).
However, they did not receive the Holy Spirit until Peter and John came down and laid hands on them.
This dis-spells the doctrine that you get all of the Holy Spirit that there is to get when you are born again.
Next, we see the gentiles receive the gospel and they receive the baptism of the Holy Spirit the moment that they believe Peter's preaching/teaching, just exactly as the Jews did, without the laying on of hands. This gift is only for someone who is saved, so now Peter and his Jewish companions realize that the gentiles have also been saved and Peter commands them to be baptized in water.
Traveling on to Acts 19 we can see that the baptism of the Holy Spirit was the expected normal Christian experience in the early church. This is determined by Paul's question to the 12 disciples of John the baptist that he comes across: "Into what then were you baptized?"
The promise of the Father is still for us today, and every believer can accept, expect and receive this wonderful gift.

Yes. When I lay hands on someone to receive the baptism of the Holy Spirit there is the initial evidence of speaking in tongues. Please note that I said "Initial evidence". There are many more evidences that they have received the Holy Spirit baptism as time goes on. Just like with Peter. Peter denied that he was with Jesus. He was afraid to tell them that he was indeed one of Jesus' disciples. Then, when He receives the Holy Spirit, look at the new boldness which he displays when he stands up and gives his first sermon on the day of Pentecost. The same people whom he was afraid of he now tells that they killed Jesus and needed to repent of their sins. Huge difference. And it is still the same today.
When people speak in tongues, is it usually another language that some can understand? Cause most people seem to speak a heavenly langauge (angel) or something? Which, no one can understand.
When the apostle Paul taught on this, he said that he spoke with the tongues of men and angels.
I heard a testimony from some friends a few years back that as they were walking into a local hospital to visit someone, two ladies were walking out speaking to each other in whatever their native tongue was. One of my friend's kids (who had evidently heard their father pray in the Spirit many times) said excitedly; "Hey dad! They are speaking in your prayer language!"
Paul also taught that there are times when we don't know what or how to pray for a person or situation, but the Holy Spirit does. When we pray in the Spirit, it is a perfect prayer spoken with the power that comes from the spoken word. Yes, there is power in our speech, which is why James tells us to mind our tongues.
The term, "spoke in an unknown language" means that it was a language unknown by the person speaking it, not that it was a language which no one knows, as some try to teach who are against this reality.
Have you seen any of the other spiritual gifts at work? Such as healing or interpretation? Also, do you know what is the discerning Spirits gift? Not completely sure what that is. Demons and evil/unclean spirits maybe? Cause scripture does tell us to test the spirits. Any experience with demons and evil spirits from your experience?
@Liane Arandia Ive seen the video & listened to it many times as I am taking notes, but I never heard Todd say the gift of tongues have ceased, though I might say I heard it so many times by believers like you who insist on as he said" valuing a certain expression of gifts, more celebrated & pridefully displayed (?)", when faced with a believer who question the gift of tongues. I for one is still seeking the truth about this gift but I never dismissed it to have ceased. although as per my experience & understanding- it is a gift & it will come to us as the holy spirit gives it esp if we ask for it, not that anyone will teach us to babble certain words that has no meaning . yes you need to be baptized in thr spirit. just because you were saved doesnt mean you were baptized in the spirit. i spoke in tongues when i was baptized in the spirit. you cant understand much the things of God until your baptized in the holy spirit until then everything is just head knowledge

When Nicodemus came to the "teacher come from God," he clearly believed in God, as did Paul prior to his conversion. Neither man had yet been baptized in the Holy Spirit; therefore they were under the deception of Satan, their father, and could not possibly see the hidden Christ. We are told by the Scriptures that it is not a decision of man to become a child of God, it is God who chooses His own (John 1:13). Paul states his apostleship by the "will of God" in many of his letters. Paul testifies in Romans 3: 10-18 that there is no one righteous, none that seeks after God, none that does good, and no one has fear of Him...meaning that no natural man, void of being baptized in the Holy Spirit can possibly know God. The Lord has mercy on whom He has mercy and compassion on whom He will have compassion, "So then it is not of him that willeth, nor of him that runneth, but of God that sheweth mercy." (Romans 9:16) Though God is sovereign, so is man responsible to believe the truth and not the lie. The lie being that we have SOMETHING to offer God. No, only a broken heart and a contrite spirit are the acceptable sacrifices to God and He will not despise them (Psalm 51:17) The Lord desires everyone to come to repentance and to cry out earnestly for mercy. (2 Peter 3:9) However, anyone who has not been baptized in the Holy Spirit and felt the fear of God, as did Paul and many numerous examples in the Scriptures, is not a child of God and is under a delusion if he thinks he is. The thief on the cross is one such example (Luke 23: 40-42). The fear of the Lord came upon this thief (are we not all thieves?), he believed that he deserved "condemnation" (as we all do), and he believed that Jesus was God by asking Jesus to remember him when Jesus came into His kingdom (what natural man would think a fellow person being crucified could possibly be God?) This is a clear work of the baptism of the Holy Spirit coming upon this poor, pitiful, polluted one who earlier in the day had even been hurling insults upon Jesus. (Matt 27:44) Oh, that we all had the grace of God to know how poor and pitiful and polluted we are! Wretched woman that I am! Who can deliver me from this body of death? I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord. So then with the mind I myself serve the law of God; but with the flesh the law of sin. My friend, go now read all of Romans 8 for there is therefore now no condemnation to them which are IN Christ Jesus....I recommend a small book by John Bunyan, the author of "The Pilgrim's Progress," called "The Acceptable Sacrifice, The Excellency of a Broken Heart: Showing the Nature, Signs, and Proper Effects of a Contrite Spirit." I recommend all of his writings....60 something in all.Since your lead story again this week proclaimed the "Church as the Hope of the World," I will repeat myself from last week. It is blasphemy assigning a characteristic of only the Lord's to the Church....meaning His people. Jesus Christ is the ONLY hope of the world and Him alone.

A person is baptized (sealed) by the Holy Spirit the NANOSECOND he or she believes the gospel. What this gentleman is saying is 100% truth. Read your bibles people.
Gregg, there is a difference between receiving the Holy Spirit at your salvation and being baptized in the Holy Spirit which is a secondary gift that God gives us. Otherwise Jesus was talking to his disciples in acts chapter 1 as unbelievers and unsaved. That is just one scripture that shows a different experience.
The word ‘sealed’ used in Ephesians 1:13 that you are referring to means the following.
Plural
“Strong’s Greek 4972: To seal, set a seal upon. From sphragis; to stamp for security or preservation; by implication, to keep secret, to attest.”
It indicates that the Holy Spirit confirms in us our salvation. It does not have anything to do with being baptized in the Holy Spirit. We are definitely the temple of the Holy Spirit, sealed by the Holy Spirit, but the baptism as shown in Acts 1 and two and revealed in following stories as a separate experience or gift to salvation. When you read Peter and Paul’s Meetings with people in ask you will see this to be true.

If the book of Acts was "transitional" where does it tell us that in scripture?
AT Kuhns it doesn’t of course. He does not agree with it so he is denying it. He is missing out on so much benefits coming from the throne of God. I hope the gentleman quits fighting the Lord and His presence, and instead surrenders His will. He is into religious doctrine. Not into following, and knowing the mind of Christ.
@AT Kuhns Your question seems to suggest that scripture must tell us that the book of Acts is transitional for us to claim that it is transitional. That's like asking, "if Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John are "parallel" books, then where does it tell us that scripture?". We know that Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John are parallel because that becomes obvious when we read them and see the similarities. Likewise, Acts is transitional because it obviously describes events in sequential order. In other words, as you read it, you see that the events transition into one another, forming a very fluid narrative about the beginnings of the Church.

The book of Acts is transitional as far as God also, offering salvation to the gentiles and instructional in that it tells us how to be saved/ born again.
@@robertnieten9844 The Gospel that saves gentiles was give to Paul. He preached the gospel according to the revelation of the mystery. Peter preached a kingdom gospel to Cornelius..it's almost the same as that he preached on the day of Pentecost. It took Peter over 10 years before he went to the Gentiles in Acts 10 and even then he told them "our law does forbids us from accociating with Gentiles"
So how was Peter supposed to preach to the Gentiles? He knew that the only way the gentiles could be saved was through the nation of Isreal but he was waiting for them to be restored and then the Gentiles would be blessed through Isreal.
By going to Cornelius the early church realised God was doing something different and the Gentiles could be saved outside of Isreal and receive the Holy Spirit.
The gospel according to the revelation of the mystery is no Jew of gentile but all one in Christ. Never been revealed until it was shown to Paul. Never prophesied or given to anyone since the world began (Roman 16)
Peter never preached the cross as a means of salvation...he accused the Jew " you killed Him"
He presented the Messiah to Isreal.
Paul preached death, burial and resurrection of Christ to Gentiles as Jesus is not the Messiah to the Gentiles.

How do you explain Acts chapter 19 if there’s not a second filling of the Spirit?
Because Acts ch.19 was the Holy Spirit baptism or to be filled to overflowing that's what being " born of the Spirit" is and how the Holy Spirit is recieved as a permanent indwelling to begin with.

jeff ouellette That is exactly right. I am sure you know that the Bible says even the devils believe, and tremble. There has to be a supernatural moving of the Father choosing a person, and a point of repenting and trusting Jesus. Living for Him with our will laid down before Him. Then He walks beside us, and we can and should be filled with the Holy Spirit. Compromising morally will ruin a person’s testimony, and make them head to hell. Which is horrible.
Salvation is a process of adoption and recieving the Holy Spirit baptism completes the process.

I’m very new to Christianity and really trying to bring Jesus into my life. I hear so many different things and almost feel overwhelmed. How do I become baptized in the Holy Spirit? Also, is a water baptism required to go to heaven?
Great teaching but you forgot to mention a few verses that are confusing to many. For example : « Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed? » and the following verses. Acts 19:2.
Explaining what Paul meant would certainly help many to get out of this confusion.

I grew up in a church that taught this way but was shunned by my family when I went to an Apostolic church that believes in the receiving of the Holy Ghost with evidence of speaking in tongues. I don't see how you throw out so much Bible and put labels on the book of Acts to discredit it's modern usage. I could go into so many examples like Nicodemus, or "Have you received the spirit since you believed?" But the Bible is clear that it's more than just repentance, you need to be baptized of water and Spirit and there is evidence of a sound the scriptures describe. The Spirit has many operations not only to interpret but for prophecy, healing, and 7 others

There is receiving baptism of the Holy Ghost in which you are given the ability to pray and speak in tongues ( our Heavenly prayer language ) so we can pray things when we do not know how to pray, as God gives us utterance. And to keep satan from knowing what we are praying when we use it.
Then there is the gift of praying in tongues which is different because it is used in a gathering like at church so speak a message from God, then usually someone else has the gift of interpretation, to speak in english etc. what was spoken in tongues.
Julie Nielsen Not everyone is given the same gift though. Unfortunately, some believe God hasn't gifted them if they don't speak in tongues and so they fake it in front of others. This is what puts people off church, as well as the showy use of tongues with no interpreter. That's why Apostle Paul said what he did about edifying the church in public with someone there to interpret.
I was terrified the first time I heard a group of people praying for me in tongues, with no interpretation until the very end. Years later I went for prayer with just one man who started praying in another language but a very humble older lady held my hand and interpreted all through, telling me things about my personal prayer over the years that only my Father in heaven could know. So I know it's from God, but must be done in an orderly fashion so as not to frighten or concern anyone that is an outsider.
1 Cor 14:5:
"Now I would like all of you to speak in tongues, but even more to prophesy. One who prophesies is greater than one who speaks in tongues unless someone interprets, so that the church may be built up." (NRSV).
The word 'ecclesia' is the Greek word which is now translated as 'church', but originally it was 'congregation' before the translators of the King James Bible debated on this and changed it to 'church' in 1611. 'Ecclesia' though has a broader meaning and refers not just specifically to church, but also to a 'gathering'. So Paul was referring not just to building up a church, but to edifying the people you are with or praying for, even if it's out evangelizing.
Verses 16-17 says "Otherwise, if you say a blessing with the spirit, how can anyone in the position of an outsider say the "Amen" to your thanksgiving since the outsider does not know what you're saying? For you may give thanks well enough, but the other person is not built up."

Just because a person is going to church does not mean they are filled with the Holy Spirit. A person can be saved who accepts Jesus Christ and is in fellowship, but the baptism of fire comes after one has surrendered completely to Jesus Christ and then they are baptized with fire and the Holy Spirit and anyone who has experienced this knows that there IS certainly a change in their life in a profound way. Remember that it was at Jesus' baptism with water the Holy Spirit alighted upon him and reseted from thence forth.
But what about when Paul meets the two men who had only been baptized by John’s baptism. Paul lays hands and they speak in tongues…
Something I have found interesting through going into the comments is that many people have put a special value on when they believed in there hearts and that EXPERIENCE. Yes it is an experience that you are holding a value towards. Well is this prayer or so called belief in God backed up to be known as the baptism of the spirit? All things should be reconciled by the scripture and not mans opinion. In this video I hear Todd say that there is some “second blessing” that these people receive and this isn’t too put a knock on Todd and to try to condemn him but to say that the book of Acts was just a transitional book and that it doesn’t apply to us now I believe is wrong. Where and when does it say in the Bible does it put these scriptures to null affect. Where in Acts 19:1-5 it shows people who were already believers receiving the baptism in water in Jesus name and recieving the Holy Ghost. This was not just given to Jews but to Samaritans and gentiles as-well the same way. A passage of scripture that I really find interesting and love is in
Acts 8:12-17
It reads “But when they believed Philip preaching the things concerning the kingdom of God, and the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized, both men and women. Now when the apostles which were at Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the word of God, they sent unto them Peter and John: Who, when they were come down, prayed for them, that they might receive the Holy Ghost: (For as yet he was fallen upon none of them: only they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.) Then laid they their hands on them, and they received the Holy Ghost.”

Now in this scripture we learn a few things. We learn this group of Samaritans were
(1) Believers
(2) baptized in Jesus name
(3) saw signs and miracles
(4) were yet to the baptism of the Holy Spirit.
(5) They received the spirit when Peter and John laid hands on them
So contrary to what Todd believes the Samaritans didn’t receive the Holy Spirit when they first believed but when Peter and John Laid hands on them. They hadn’t just had one blessing but many and still didn’t have the Holy Spirit! Until hands were laid on them. Something this scripture doesn’t say is that they spoke in tongues. It can be inferred though because how else would have Phillip had known that they hadn’t received the Holy Spirit yet? What could it possibly be if it wasn’t one of the things listed above? Peter John received it by speaking in tongues, why would they believe it would come some other way? The answer is quite simple they wouldn’t. Jesus said we must be born of water and spirit. The true Plan of salvation is found in the acts 2:38 its
(1) Repent
(2) be baptized in Jesus name
(3) receive the infilling of the Holy Ghost.
The Bible will not contradict itself. Jesus hasn’t changed. I will listen and obey the Lord Jesus. Matthew 7:21 says those who will make it into the kingdom of heaven will do the will of the Father. We must submit and obey the will of the Father to make it. God bless

NO ONE fools God. There are no Holy Spirit baptized “back-sliders”. You are either born again or you are not. PERIOD.
There are 7 baptisms in scripture:
1) John’s baptism in water (Mathew 3)
2) Christ’s baptism in water (John 4:1 and 2 (Jesus baptizes with the Holy Spirit and fire Mat 3:11))
3) Baptism in suffering (Luke 12:50
4) Baptism in the cloud and in the sea ( 1Cor 10:2)
5) Christian baptism in water.
6) Baptism into Christ and into his body
7 Baptism in the Holy Spirit
The last three, 5, 6, and 7 are discussed below.

The term must be used as the Greek intended it or we are not being true to the definition. Baptism simply stated is immersion into an element.
What is needed to carry out a baptism?
1. A candidate... One being baptized
2. An agent... One to do the baptizing
3. An element... In what the candidate is to be baptized.
To keep this simple; a baptism occurs when a candidate is immersed into an element by an agent.
The Bible speaks of several baptisms, but our focus will be only on the three baptisms that the Christian mostly hears about: baptism with water, baptism into Christ and baptism with the Holy Spirit. In the following descriptions of the three baptisms, please note that there are three agents of baptism, three elements of baptism, three purposes of each baptism and a single candidate.
The first baptism to be dealt with is water baptism. Water baptism is of this world, worldly and is but a shadow of the real baptisms that are spiritual in nature. This baptism is the only baptism that is commanded by Christ and is carried out by a human. This baptism is the only baptism that we can observe the element, agent and candidate with our physical sight. (A picture is worth a thousand words.) When we see this occurring then we can transpose the candidate, agent and element to the other baptisms and in effect consider the spiritual realm and observe baptism into Christ and baptism with the Holy Spirit.
Baptism with Water:
Acts 8:36 And as they went on their way, they came unto a certain water: and the eunuch said, See, here is water; what doth hinder me to be baptized? 37 And Philip said, If thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God. 38 And he commanded the chariot to stand still: and they went down both into the water, both Philip and the eunuch; and he baptized him.
(Note that the condition of being baptized in water is that you must be a believer (saved))
Candidate... One being baptized.... Eunuch (Believer).
Agent... One to do the baptizing.... Philip
Element... In what the candidate is to be baptized.... Water.
Baptism into One Body (Christ):
I Corinthians 12:13 For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit.
Candidate... One being baptized.... We (Believers).
Agent... One to do the baptizing.... Holy Spirit
Element... In what the candidate is to be baptized.... One Body. (The body of Christ)
The Holy Spirit baptizes the believer into Christ, into his body at repentance and the new birth. (The indwelling of the Holy Spirit also occurs at this baptism)
Rom 6:3 Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death?
Gal 3:27 For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ.
Baptism with The Holy Spirit:
Mat 3:11 I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance: but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire
Candidate... One being baptized.... You (Believers).
Agent... One to do the baptizing.... Jesus (he that cometh after me)
Element... In what the candidate is to be baptized.... Holy Ghost.
Act 1:4-5, 8. Acts 1:4 And being assembled together with them, commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem but wait for the promise of the Father, which, saith he, ye have heard of me. 5 For John truly baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence. 8 But ye shall receive power after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem and in all Judaea and in Samaria and unto the uttermost part of the earth.
The above descriptions of the three baptisms that the Christians commonly refer to, I have been told on more than one occasion, are unscriptural as there are three and the Bible says that there is only one baptism (See Ephesians 4:5). Never the less here are three different baptisms with three different agents and three different elements and three different reasons, books, chapters and verses. All I have to say about that is, it has been written, and it still stands; written.
Jesus said in the book of John it is most important that i leave because if i do not leave the Spirit of truth which the father will send in my name will not come and when he comes he will teach ALL truth the Holy Spirit is the teacher of the word man is only suppose to confirm thru the word what he the Holy Spirit is teaching you not to tell you what God our father can do or not do that being said i encourage you to get into the word daily and let the Holy Spirit teach you the truth ,The baptism of the Holy Spirit is of great importance in the life of a Born again Believer so let the Holy Spirit teach you All that he has to give or do in your life and do not limit the power of the Holy Spirit for he is God in power an demonstration and and his Glory!
What about tongues? Do you have to speak tongues in order to be in the rapture?

I was curious. What is the age requirement for baptism? I have seen churches baptize as young as 7 yr old children. And I thought there was something in the bible that once you become baptized, you shouldnt keep on living the "old" way but a changed life in Christ? So how can children really know the importance of baptism? I was 13 when I got baptized. But...I fell away from Christian living. Now that I have a family, I strive to walk in Jesus ways to be example for my kids. So a question came up, do I get baptized again? I am so confused. Please help! Thank you!
If the apostles and believers of that day had a common experience then we should have the same experience as they did, not a different one. The promise that they had would continue as long as God keeps calling people to himself. It is what happened in Acts 2:4, Acts 10, Acts 19 which was nearly 20 years after the events of Acts 2.
Here are the cases in scripture that show that being filled with the Holy Spirit is separate from salvation by faith.
Acts 2:38-39 Peter said to them, "Repent, and each of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. 39 For the promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off, as many as the Lord our God will call to Himself. Acts 8:14-17 Now when the apostles in Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the word of God, they sent them Peter and John, 15 who came down and prayed for them that they might receive the Holy Spirit. 16 For He had not yet fallen upon any of them; they had simply been baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. 17 Then they began laying their hands on them, and they were receiving the Holy Spirit.
They were believers and had not received the Holy Spirit. They were baptized. You don’t baptize unbelievers
Acts 9:17 So Ananias departed and entered the house, and after laying his hands on him said, "Brother Saul, the Lord Jesus, who appeared to you on the road by which you were coming, has sent me so that you may regain your sight and be filled with the Holy Spirit.
Ananias called Saul his brother. You don’t call an unbeliever your brother in the Lord. Saul was saved but not filled with the Holy Spirit.
Acts 19:1-2a It happened that while Apollos was at Corinth, Paul passed through the upper country and came to Ephesus, and found some disciples. 2 He said to them, "Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?" And they said to him, "No
Paul considered them believers, yet without the Holy Spirit.
Acts 10:44-48 While Peter was still speaking these words, the Holy Spirit fell upon all those who were listening to the message. 45 All the circumcised believers who came with Peter were amazed, because the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out on the Gentiles also. 46 For they were hearing them speaking with tongues and exalting God. Then Peter answered, 47 "Surely no one can refuse the water for these to be baptized who have received the Holy Spirit just as we did, can he?" 48 And he ordered them to be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ. NASU
Notice that fell upon, gift, poured out, received and tongues are used in the same context and refer to the same event. They knew they received the Holy Spirit because they heard them speak with tongues. In acts 2:4, Acts 10:44-48 and Acts 19:1-6 the same thing happened. They spoke with tongues. It is the common denominator. In Acts 8 Simon the sorcerer was willing to pay money for it. This proves that there was something visible that he saw that he wanted. Being filled with the Holy Spirit is a separate experience from salvation. In some cases they received it before being water baptized and in others after being water baptized. It is the gift of the Holy Spirit. The gift of the Holy Spirit is a supernatural prayer language. In Acts 2:4 they all spoke in tongues, in 1st Corinthians Paul said I thank may God I speak in tongues more than you all. They all spoke in tongues. This prayer language builds a person up in the Holy Ghost. All of the apostle’s churches spoke in tongues. Tongues is the door that leads to the nine gifts of the Spirit. Without tongues you won’t have the rest. I have never seen a church without it that has the power of God and does the same thing Jesus did.
In 1st Corinthians 12:13 For by one Spirit we were all baptized into one body, whether Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or free, and we were all made to drink of one Spirit. NASU
John 14:17 the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it does not see Him or know Him, but you know Him because He abides with you and will be in you. NASU
John 14:17 shows that it is possible for the spirit to be with you but not fill you. The baptism in 1 Corinthians 12:13 is water baptism. If this is a proof that all believers are filled with the Holy Spirit then in Acts 8:16 they baptized unbelievers because they were not filled with the Holy Spirit.
Some denominations teach that you are not saved unless you speak in tongues They can use 1st Corinthians 12:13 to prove you are not saved unless you speak in tongues because speaking in tongues is the proof that you are filled with the Holy Spirit.. This pastor tries to use it to prove you are automatically filled with the Holy Spirit at salvation. I don’t believe that it is a proof text for being filled with the Spirit. The book of Acts is an example for us to follow
2 Tim 3:16 All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; 17 so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work.
