I haven't been home in over 30 years but I try to keep up with my culture. When I heard the colab with Busta I said Y E S Excellent! But what was really delightful and inspiring was the interview on "The Breakfast Club". I was surprised when I stumbled upon it. I'm proud to be a Trinidadian, and of my culture. Thanks to social media for keeping me connected.
Truth be told Bunji Garlin and his tune 'Send that riddim mad' made me gain interest in soca music because of his crafty fusion of reggae music now called raga soca. I could identify with what he said about the heavy influx of Jamaican music in Trinidad in the 80s and 90s. I loved the genre...still do. I knew more reggae artist than Trini artist at that time. And he is correct there was a division in our country between reggae lovers and soca/calypso lovers. I was reggae of course because people I looked up to at that time sort of demonized our culture. But for me personally as time went by I clung to conscious and righteous music irregardless of the genre. So naturally i do not endorse any music that promotes lewdness and vulgarity irregardless of the genre. Why? Because you cannot associate The Most High God...Yahua...with it.
