Box base and mount are commonly known as a "1952-54" box. The red candy stripe lid is also generally comes in 3 flavors, without the (R) to the right of ZIPPO, the (R) to the right of the O in Zippo and generally in line with the branding, and the (R) falling below the line of the O in Zippo. You have the middle transition (R) logo box which was largely limited to the latter period of 1952-54. And your USS Dashiell looks like a typical 1949-52 variety. No good way to tell if it's brass or steel, but both were seen through the Korean War. Though not the most perfect/ideal matchups, it's all still pretty close where box lid, box base/mount, and lighter could still reasonably be seen together.
Thank you for the information. I had been thinking/hoping it was a1952-54 one. Which to me is close enough, for now, lol. This USS Dashiell Zippo is the one that you and I had figured was a 1951-1952 since it is a brass case, but the ship itself was taken out of service after WWII and wasn't put back into service until 1951 for the Korean War times. I had been keeping it in a black and grey striped Canada Zippo box I have (without a correct lighter) due to that it looks like a late 1940s early 1950s US Zippo box. Now I'm keeping the Canadian Mounted Police Niagara Falls Zippo in that box. Which also doesn't match years, lol.

@@zippolyonsden1623 ahhh ok. I remember it now. Well very good, it's definitely close enough for government work.
1961 is my birth year and that Zippo is in better shape than me 😂
I know the feeling, lol 😂. My 1974s are in better shape than I am, lol. It is in pretty good shape, though. Looking forward to cleaning it up a bit.
Great Video! Keep em coming!
Thank you
