The biggest mistake is that we seem to be focusing on COMMERCIAL HipHop too much... That hiphop has no culture, money rules that environment, favouritism and nepotism is at its peak and it HipHop doesn't strive in such an environment. Also there is alot of division amongst the elements of HipHop...we can't focus only on the music, where is our dancers, where is our fashionistas, where is our graffiti dudes... The music will die out because we not supporting it with HipHop elements that keeps it alive. You only see a combination of this elements at big events like back to the city but not in the entire HipHop culture.
My opinion is we are South African sa hip-hop artists need to find a balance when they are making music, between culture and the ordinary human beings who don't live hip hop just love relating song 😊
i like how Rashid kay and Zingah are realistic with the situation of hip hop. im not a hip hop head but seems like some of these panelists are delusional. just not accepting that the state of SA hiphop isnt good. doesnt make sense to deny that of hip hop is in bad state SA when you can simply accept that world wide its a decline.
Mzansi Hip Hop culture haz alwayz looked at Jozi for the last 30years.... Jozi Rap haz been been made to follow a Template for Majors... Nobody haz gone back to the basics ov looking around the country... there are 8 other provinces.. when Hip Hop waz fighting house..Motswako brought it back coz the country went to another province... Come to Mpumalanga...we're self made.. self employed and Make great music without the flashy gimmicks... take hip hop back to the basics.. Freestyle Battlez are happening in jozi but nobody looks there coz everybody iz talking about branding and branding and presenting themselves az successful... any1 can pay for a photoshoot... nobody iz supporting bars and artistry... what do you expect to happen when you don't support rappers with barz instead ov well packaged plants
I honestly agree with Zingah Hip Hop hits these days are only appealing to hip hop fans because the new cats are not being inclusive to masses unlike a PRO,HHP,KO,JR,AKA,Nyovest, Kwesta who were making songs that a 2year in the rural could mess with or a mature couple driving to work could relate to and with those kind of hits we were competing with every genre because you couldn't ignore us
majors are not interested in a large number of SA hip-hop artist budgets are cut its not about tiktoks and what not, when they had interest it became hot so now the question is why did they slow down on putting money behind SA hip-hop? lets not forget majors have influence on what plays on radio and tv, ye sure you can upload your song on distro but you wont get those numbers and no matter which pr company you are using you cant compete with majors. another trick majors do in black communities is make one sound trend for every 5-10 years. all i am saying wherever majors spend thats what becomes hot right now they are spending on breaking amapiano internationally.
The problem is collaboration, think of a nasty and Reece album.that can shake every corner in mzansi, come on guys.Reece and nasty swallow that EGO shit and give us music
Who gains from that merge? Why would Nasty at his level do a project with an indie act that has no motion outside of SA? A Blxckie and Nasty collab makes more sense as it stamps the "Durban scene" as a power force in history. KZN has never been this big and that collabo does beyond what reece and nasty do where one gains more than the next. Look at Reece's numbers when he works with Blxckie. He gets a near double boost. What has Blxckie gained from that collabo?🤷🏽♂️ see what I mean?
@@shaunmahlangu1673 no big dawg, look how chasing the American market messed up nasty sound.we need that south African hip hop sound back, those guys you mentioning are trying to sound like young thug and them.

Yo hip hop gang 🎧🔥I'm featured on the hottest collaboration of the year! 🚀 Introducing "No Prescription" by Sgivo Beats, featuring the incredible talents of Blezz, J-Tyt, and K2. 🎤💫 This track is pure fire, blending sick beats, killer rhymes, and electrifying energy that'll have you vibin' from start to finish. 🎶💥 available on all streaming platforms
Radio changed how it used to do things. We used to hear music first from radio. Which generates a lot of money, radio or the internet? Hip Hop is not appreciated in SA radio
Where was Mashbeatz and DJ Slique, in this, aren't they the ones actually carrying hip hop in SA rn?. The OG's hip hop era is dead yona, but y'all dont support it and there aren't a lot of hip hop DJ's and events that are being created and supported. And the only radio station that should be boosting hip hop is YFM, Hip hop is a youth genre. I wish I was the host 😂
This is frustrating to listen to. Spending so much time arguing over a definition. Something that is so obvious to understand. The state of SA Hip Hop is not at the level that it was. This was an opportunity to have an honest dissection of why it is suffering and what could be put in place to get it back to the level it was once at. A conversation that the 'Young' up and coming rappers could listen to and pick up some game. This just added to the confusing state the game is in because you all just spend all this time arguing over a stupid definition. Eya gowa eHip hop. let's stop being delulu.
Ya’ll act like SA hip hop didn’t die around 2018 or so…and also acting like hip hop ain’t dead globally period…Drake and Dot just rolled the credits it’s a wrap for hip hop!
I keep.trying to comment and Rashid keeps saying my points for me. 🤣🤣 we're literally thinking the same things man damn!
I think OGs spend too much talking about the game and not enough time pushing the game.
Host a quarterly event as a platform for the youngins
The masterclass does a lot of shows/events and putting on a lot of upcoming artists king... And OG is present at those events and pushing the culture.
@@nelsonthobakgale6435 yeah but they do shows for Back to the city crowd of hip hop fans where as the new generation are the kids at cotton fest.
